Your post about feral behavior in omegaverse makes me so happy, I love it a lot because I like to use it in writing. Do you think it’s a headspace that can be induced during great danger too? Or do you consider that a different thing entirely? I would love to hear your thoughts. I’ve always used it in situations of danger but I used the way you break it down a little just less advanced than how you explain it.
ooo this is a good question, thank you!! i think a similar headspace can be triggered by situations of extreme danger, but maybe without the dangerous hormonal regulation. it’s similar to the idea of a parent lifting a car off of their child. when someone needs to protect themselves, their pups, or their pack, there is a spike in certain hormones. in this state of hyperarousal, an individual might behave similarly to someone experiencing ferality.
i think the major difference is that when someone is feral, their drive is to connect. a forced bite from a feral alpha isn’t because they want to hurt someone, it’s because biting someone is a bonding behavior and their condition comes from a lack of social bonds. bonding bites are not considered a violent act any more than getting a shot at the doctor or getting a piercing.
when someone is in danger, however, their drive is to protect, attack, defend, or escape. when a feral omega bites someone because their packmate was threatened, their intention is to protect that packmate through violence. while the behavior might be similar (alpha posturing, beta zoomies/perching, omega hiding), the mechanism that causes it and the instinctive drive behind it are different.
people in that state of hyperarousal might still need medical support afterward, especially if they were in danger for a prolonged period of time. coming down from that sort of thing might send them into a state of psychological shock that would require support from both medical experts and the affected person’s pack.
thank you so much for your question!!! :D

going feral
i’ve mentioned feral alphas and omegas in a few posts before, but what does that mean? this post will discuss ferality,* its causes, common feral behaviors, and treatment.
*note: i will be using ‘ferality’ as opposed to the technically proper ‘ferity’ because the latter is based on the latin root and sounds pretentious, and the former is based on the english word and is more accessible
what is ferality?
ferality is a medical emergency caused most commonly by social isolation. it causes those afflicted to behave erratically, and is the most common cause of forced bites. it is one of the top ten causes of death for those over 80 years old. it is also called ‘loneliness disease’ or ‘bite fever,’ and is often euphemistically described as ‘losing oneself.’ in the past, more than a week of ferality was incurable. today, synthetic hormones and careful medically supervised management leads to over 90% of those afflicted to make a full recovery if treated before one week, and over 80% to regain most normal function if treated before two weeks. outcomes become less positive the longer someone experiences ferality, but there have only been 1,762 documented deaths directly from ferality in the US since 1980.
why does it happen?
humans in the omegaverse are pack animals not only because their ancestors saw practical advantages to living, hunting, and raising pups in groups, but because they were biologically dependent on one another. in simplest terms, interacting with pack aids the body in maintaining its optimal balance between the twelve dynamic (i.e., alpha, beta, and omega) hormones. prolonged lack of social support means that these hormones become unbalanced, leading the body to a state of multi-system disregulation.
ferality greatly reduces people’s access to the areas of the brain responsible for decision making, planning, empathy, and abstraction. it is the body’s desperate bid to regulate itself by any means necessary. those afflicted become impulsive, aggressive, and violent in some cases, so it is essential both for the afflicted person and those nearby that if you spot a feral person, you call emergency services immediately.
how do you spot it?
feral humans are fairly easy to spot based on their unusual, erratic, impulsive behavior. they may sniff the air (or other people) unsubtly, grab or touch things (or people) and fail to respond to spoken language. ferality is most commonly associated with inappropriate scent marking and biting for good reason: a feral person’s primary drive is to share scent with someone to help bring themselves back into balance. there are also some behaviors that can generally be attributed to the different dynamic sexes:
alphas
feral alphas tend to make aggressive eye contact as a posturing behavior
growling, snarling, and clicking at no one in particular
clenching and unclenching the fists and shifting from foot to foot
violence, especially toward other alphas
an acrid scent, like burning rubber or sulfur
betas
feral betas’ eyes tend to shift rapidly, settling on nothing for very long
humming, clicking, huffing at no one in particular
similar to alphas, they clench and unclench the fists and shift from foot to foot
general restlessness, moving quickly
climbing and perching inappropriately (e.g. on tables, vehicles, or buildings)
a rotting scent, like old meat or milk
omegas
feral omegas tend to make glancing eye contact—they meet someone’s eyes, hold, and look away several times
whining, purring, and clicking at no one in particular
baring the neck indiscriminately in a bid to entice a bite
hiding/burrowing (e.g. under tables or in closets. there have been several cases of feral omegas in clothing stores nesting in the clothing racks)
a chemical scent, like bleach or ammonia
how is it treated?
if you spot someone afflicted by ferality, it is essential to call for an ambulance immediately.
treatment begins in the ambulance. typically, EMS technicians anesthetize the individual for everyone’s safety. once it is safe to do so, the technicians draw blood and begin measuring vital signs and hormone levels to ensure that the individual truly is feral. in the past 30 years, rapid tests have made measuring hormone levels faster than ever. these levels are recorded and passed off to hospital triage, along with a record of any emergency hormones administered.
the hospital then brings the individual to the feral ward, where they have an individual room and nesting material marked with synthetic pheromones of all three dynamics. if the individual has been feral for less than ~three days, typically this is enough to trigger their body to begin regulating itself. in some cases, the individual may need direct scent marking in order to jumpstart regulation. if it’s necessary, a nurse or technician will swab the individual’s face and neck with a cotton swab soaked in a synthetic pheromone solution.
in more moderate to severe cases, the individual may need further assistance regulating themselves. in these cases, the individual will receive intravenous hormones and extremely frequent monitoring.
typically, after a few days of hormone therapy, the individual’s body will have reached a state of equilibrium and will be able to maintain the balance itself again. however, in some severe cases, the individual’s body may be unable to maintain the balance. these people will need hormone therapy every other week indefinitely. in some cases (especially those where there is also malnutrition or other severe condition), the issue will resolve itself with time. in others, the hormone treatment is for life.
how is it prevented?
the best prevention is maintaining healthy pack bonds. if, for some reason, this is inaccessible, clinics, health departments, and hospitals typically have nesting materials marked with synthetic pheromones. in the past five years, some nesting material companies have begun offering materials marked with synthetic pheromones. in addition, matching agencies sometimes offer scent-marked clothing or nesting materials for sale, though this practice is judged fairly harshly.

Nesting, scenting, purring, scruffing... A lot of animalistic behaviours have been attributed to omegaverse characters. But there's one I've never seen used, and that's a shame. Have any of you heard about... Kneading?
Tumblr media
Also known as making biscuits.
It's something kittens do with their mums, but older cats often do that with their favourite humans or soft toys and blankets!
Tumblr media
It's associated with nest-making and scenting. Famous omegaverse things!
(as well as with heats in queens, but I'm trying to keep the post sfw, so shhhh)
Tumblr media
Pups could do that with their parents! Omegas (and other nest-makers) could do that with their nests! And everyone could give friendly little massages to their friends!
Tumblr media
(or make them a pizza, but like, as an Omegaverse Instinct™ thing)
So consider: kneading.

alphas being tender with their new pups. alphas scenting their newborn pups face-to face, nose to nose, chuffing softly. alphas enamored with their new little one. alphas’ scents going soft and warm and bright when their pup is nearby. alphas who live for their families, who love their friends and other people of course, but who feel no greater joy than when they’re cleaning their little one’s face after a meal or curled up with their mate. alphas at home surrounded by love and safety and feeling the joy and relief of being able to give of themselves to lift their loved ones up.

Bonding
Bonds are links connecting one individual to another. They often take place as a physical claim on the body that results in a mental link between two people where the two people connected can feel each other’s emotions.
A person can shield their own bonds, which means they can temporarily block their emotions from going in and out of bonds. All physical claims take place on scent glands.
There are 5 different types of bonds/claims:
Parental
From parent to pup. The parties involved do not need to be biologically related. Involves physical claims on the back of the pup's neck. These claims traditionally happen when the pup is a few weeks to a few months old. However, more recently, parents wait until their pup is old enough to consent (age 10) to give them the bond. Parental bonds are not easy to break and only break due to extreme abuse or neglect. These bonds do not fade over time and remain strong unless broken. A person usually does not have more than 2 parental bonds at the same time, but of course this does not apply to everyone.
Romantic
From partner to partner. Involves physical claims on the neck/upper collarbone. The bond ceremony often, but not always, takes place during a shared mating cycle after courting. A person can have more than one romantic bond. A romantic bond tends to fade after 3 years, so it must be reinforced. The more often partners reinforces their bond, the stronger the bond will become and the slower it will fade. Only one partner must receive the physical claim, however the claim is strongest when both partners have a physical claim from each other. The breaking of romantic bonds before they fade is dangerous, and can result in extreme illness, unhealthy mating cycles, or even death in some rare cases.
Platonic
From platonic loved one to platonic loved one. Involves physical claims on the wrists. Can happen at any point and does not have a traditional ceremony. Unlike other bonds, platonic bonds must be wanted mutually by both parties in order to properly establish the bond. Platonic bonds fade as the relationship weakens. Platonic bonds break relatively easily and are not dangerous to break, however, depending on how quick they are broken and how one-sided the break is, an individual can get a minor sickness or feel empty for a period of time.
Sexual
From sexual partner to sexual partner. Involves physical claims on the inner thighs. Can happen at any point and does not have a traditional ceremony. Sexual bonds are the easiest bonds to break and naturally break after 3 days to a week. Must be reinforced often if partners want the bond to stick. Sexual bonds often happen between partners who want an increased level of sexual intimacy in their relationship or more pleasurable, shared intimacy. Also often happen between hookups and one night stands. Are the least "serious" of the bonds.
Pack
From pack member to pack member. Are the only bonds that do not need physical claims. Form after time, a close relationship, or sharing bonds with people in the pack. Larger packs have become experts on how to trigger pack bonds between people and even offer counseling for new and struggling packs. One pack bond often, but not always, establishes a bond from one individual to the entire rest of the pack. Since pack bonds take special circumstances to establish, they are not easily broken. Like parental bonds, they break due to extreme abuse, neglect, or a weakened, practically nonexistent relationship. If a pack member needs to break the bonds immediately for whatever reason, they will feel extreme sickness and often enter a dangerous mating cycle where they need to be cared for.

Pack Structure and Society hc
Hello its me im back with another long post. It was originally jsut supposed to be about packs but it got kinda mixed up with some other general society stuff. This is made for my writing personally so it's not even close to a one size fits all but feel free to take concepts u like !
As always stick around after the cut
Tumblr media
🏔️ In my society packs are very central. My au isn’t total traditional, but I do take a lot of the more traditional stances when it comes to packs.
🏔️ Packs are typically a mix of blood relatives. It’s much more rare than you’d think to find a found family kind of pack where no one is related
🏔️ Packs are lead by the pack head, traditionally an alpha. A pack will also have a second, traditionally an alpha or beta. Large packs have a few more designations as well. The heart is the packs top omega usually unrelated /unmated to the head. Some packs also have a matchmaker, usually an omega in charge of choosing mates and giving relationship counseling. Some packs have a finance head, exactly what it sounds like usually a beta in charge of money and land. All packs typically have at least one pack paw. A paw is the pack’s muscle, think palace guards in fantasy aus. Large and rich packs will have enough paws to elect a paw head to coordinate their protection. Paws are traditionally alphas. Packs that are very religious will often have a religious leader as well. Their title varies from religion to religion as do their dynamics. This is sometimes different than like a priest in a church in a neutral town (keep reading for those) and sometimes not.
🏔️ The power hierarchy in order is:
--Pack Head
--Second
--Paw Head (optional)
--Heart (optional)
--Finance Head (optional)
--Matchmaker (optional)
The religious head is not included as their place on the hierarchy can vary depending on religion and culture.
🏔️ In very traditional packs (most of them in my au) these positions are passed down by blood. As such each of these power positions is controlled by a different family, not mated pairs.
🏔️ Most packs tend to hold counsels with all these positions in attendance when big decisions are made, but at the end of the day what the pack head says goes.
🏔️ Packs can vary in size, but for my world building im going to focus on larger, rural area packs
🏔️ These large packs typically own quite a bit of land! Members are usually spread out over multiple buildings with the largest property functioning as the pack head’s home and a communal space. The pack head’s door is always unlocked.
🏔️ All buildings are usually within walking distance making my world a hell of a lot more rural than irl as you have these large tracts of pack-owned wilderness between villages
🏔️ A pack on the smaller end probably only has one village, or cluster of dwellings whatever you wanna call it ig, while larger packs can have three or four. In this case there’s usually some kind of town hall type meeting for all members to mingle a few times a month.
🏔️ These packs are self governing. Usually the heart and the head paw are in charge of discipline and justice, with the blessing of the pack head.
🏔️ Since packs are self governing, packs have the power to execute, tho it is rare. Usually an offending member is outsourced to a private or government run prison, but in extreme cases a pack can legally kill
🏔️ Traditional packs are extremely territorial, and trespassing is one of those cases punishable by death
🏔️ Packs have a… long…. Complicated… history of alliances and enemies it can be super confusing for someone new to the area
🏔️ Packs do take in packless people from time to time. It can happen more formally or more relaxed. Formally a pack will seek individuals at shelters for packless, rehabilitation centers, or finishing schools. More laid back packs will simply advertise.
🏔️ Packs also arrange marriages between their allied packs (which in the 21st century can span across the entire globe) and some are known to buy omegas in particular
🏔️ There are towns/cities on neutral grounds where pack borders meet. These towns are government owned and run and often have all the little shops and markets and religious centers and hospitals and pharmacies and movie theaters and libraries and what have you. Pack members can visit these neutral towns anytime they want! Tho very strict packs will not allow their omegas out on their own without a chaperone
🏔️ While each pack is different, it’s not uncommon for packs in my setting to adopt a representative animal to act as a logo/crest of sorts! Some packs can be very closed to outsiders and these are the ones that often have their members tattooed or branded with the animal for recognition and a rite of passage
🏔️ While packs in a country/area do have cultural things in common they can also differ widely. 3 packs might be neighbors in territory, but one is devout Catholic while another is made of Wiccans and moon worshippers while another still are totally agnostic and are just really passionate about a certain football team. Stepping into a different pack can feel like transporting yourself to a different world/time.
🏔️ There are two kinds of schools in this world: public government owned ones that are in the neutral towns that any area pack can attend, or private home schooling left up to the packs (but the government does check in on certain milestones for these ones) I'll make a different schooling hc later !
🏔️ Most of the packs in this world are pre established. New packs are often met with hostility.
🏔️ Packs almost always meet on neutral ground no matter if the function is positive (a mating dance perhaps or a holiday event) or negative (bickering over where the real border is)
🏔️ Some packs are self sufficient and farm and hunt on their own. These packs have lots of betas !
🏔️ Other packs rely on the neutral towns to provide for them, so their villages tend to be close to the border.
🏔️ Pack wars are mostly a thing of the past, they don’t really happen much tho certain packs are hostile towards other ones.
🏔️ All packs have a scent to them, you can tell when a person is of a certain pack or not and pack bonds are usually maintained by platonic scenting.
🏔️ Some packs desperately search for new members as they have issues with interbreeding
🏔️ Money is less of an issue in my world, a packs main source of income are usually a few working alphas and betas and if some betas and omegas decide to sell produce in the neutral towns. The central government will provide a ton of social services so these traditional packs (who are often considered like a cultural thing important to preserve) don’t struggle in modern times.
🏔️ A pack will typically have less omegas compared to another dynamic, they’re more rare! It’s why some packs take protecting their omegas so seriously. In ancient times rogue or enemy packs were even known to steal and forcibly bond omegas from other packs. The protective instincts have remained even tho this is heavily illegal now and would be grounds for one pack to kill members of the other.
🏔️ Nature and land is way more important than irl !! Most packs keep their lands pristine wilderness they use for hunting or recreation. There are a few packs who have donated certain lands to the government to be preserved as national parks all packs can enjoy. Overall tho destruction of wilderness is taken so so seriously.

Pack dynamics this pack dynamics that but never did I stop and think of the legal implications of packs 🤨 how I'd imagine them at least
A lot of my base pack headcanons are pretty well summed up by this post by @purrmoon ... They're just incredibly good and I agree with like all of it... So I'm just gonna be kinda expanding on them with some more of my thoughts!
These are all my ideas for what things would look like for... Let's say the western world. In the modern day. but I'd imagine things would function differently in South America or Africa or anywhere else (which I'll touch on in another post)
Packs get legal recognition the same way traditional families do. In the past, it was required for a pack to have at least one pack alpha, pack beta, and pack omega to be legalized, but overtime these roles became less dynamic dependent and the terminology changed to pack head, pack hand, and pack heart filling those respective roles. Now only a pack head is typically needed for a pack to be legalized, but most packs have at least one other role filled by at least one pack member, and it's easier to be legalized that way.
Although any dynamic can fill these roles, it's less socially accepted and harder to legalize packs with different dynamics filling these roles. It's made harder for betas to be pack heads and even harder for omegas to do so. The legalization of omegas being allowed to serve as pack heads was a more recent development, and is still difficult to legally achieve.
Pack heads establish packs and are given the responsibility of speaking for the pack overall, having the final say in impactful decisions. Pack hands are given the responsibility of keeping packs orderly and dealing with pack issues in a diplomatic way. Pack hearts are given the responsibility of taking care of any pups or youngest members of the pack.
Other misc facts:
To pups in a pack that have their own parents, pack alphas are secondary legal guardians adjacent to their parents
To pups in a pack without their own parents, pack alphas become their legal guardians
You must be older than 21 to establish your own pack
Unofficial packs created by pups and adolescents are called pup packs. The term is also used informally to refer to packs that seem impulsively made, unserious, or inexperienced
Feel free to add on or share ur thoughts ^ - ^ I'm not too well versed on the laws of the land I just go here lol

Types of Omegaverses
Traditional - rigid social norms and hierarchies (ex: you can't do that you're an omega!), scents, animalistic heats/ruts, packs, war, dynamic > gender, mating, traditional gender roles are imposed (even if your characters actively fight against them), majority polyamory or familial based packs. Knotting = mating bond, mating bites can be present.
Contemporary - semi-flexible but present social /dynamic hierarchies (They are an alpha, it's respectful to listen to what they have to say), dating and courtship either anywhere between traditional and modern, polyamory common, dynamic is slightly more important than gender in society, familial/harem/community-based packs, fantastical heats/ruts/and mating, knotting and mating are not the same thing, mating bites, soulmates/soul marks.
Modern-dynamic hierarchy used to be a thing but is no longer the way society is structured, some dynamic and gender-based social norms (ex. I can't believe that alpha is a kindergarten teacher, i wonder what their parents think!), modern/nearly modern dating and courtship, traditional gender roles in the background, dynamic and gender are equally important in society, found family packs, polyamory uncommon, realistic heats/ruts (no rut rage, no wildly uncontrollable urges that last for days, no fountains of slick, etc.. these are just quirky biological processes, the increased mating drive does not become "fantastical"), mating bond = emotional commitment.
Post-Modern - the coexistence and explicit mention of multiple countries, multiple languages, multiple cultures, and customs that inform feelings towards dynamics. Mating, packs, and social hierarchies, neither dynamic nor gender is the focus of the characters or the plot, heats/ruts more biological than sexual, present-futuristic time period.

Do you have any headcanons for wild vs city packs? How they would interact and integrate? How they would differ and how to kinda build a story around both pack types. I’m dying for some ideas, I have baseline ideas but nothing solid 😭
Puppy mod here!
I’m pretty sure I wrote this and asked it here a while ago (if I didn’t and someone else did, we need to talk because I’ve been fixated on this idea forever), but recently I was made a mod here which is like super crazy to me! Kitty mod has become a very cool friend to have teehee.
This specific ask is still something that lurks in my brain. When I write with this idea in mind it never really clicks the way I want it to.
The idea splits in two halves and a bridge to help cross them but the execution is where I still struggle.
One side is trad pack side, more along the lines of packs living in the woods still. They live off of their natural resources and follow practiced that have been tried and true since ancient times, though properly evolved to support pack lives and safety more effectively. This side can be secluded if desired, effectively separated from society, but could also have branches reaching out into modern living, that’s more how I enjoy to think of it as. They’d have modern medicine and technology practically just next door but have no real need or desire for it because it’s just not how they live their lives. They may also tend to live by more of a traditional lifestyle, not always less progressive but trad packs do slack on that front. Alpha Omega relationships are the norm, they have pack rolls that tend to follow a more typical set line, and they have traditional mating practices as well.
Modern living packs don’t conform to the traditional pack lifestyle. You’ll find alpha/alpha relationships, omega/omega, you name it. Younger generations having less children, or at least less children at younger ages. Omegas aren’t so weighed down by traditional roles and neither are alphas. Their mating practices are a lot looser, more on their own terms than anyone else’s. Some people don’t have full packs, some placing pack bonds with friends and no family, some making their own packs while maintaining longer distances bonds with family. Not everyone lives in a generational home with family but has their own place. They have modern schools and job and transit, replying less on their most base instinct and going more with the flow. This side probably doesn’t worry about anything like hunting and sourcing food or water outside of the modern struggle for such things…
My struggle is the bridge between these two similar but definitely more different worlds of people of a same kind. Would there be transfer programs built into schools to packs as a way to connect the two together? There would for certain be a disdain built into to each side as every difference has, so the most understandable thing would be to bridge them together to form a better understanding of each other’s lives. Would this bridge lead to a mixed culture eventually? It’s such an interesting concept but I lack all the details I need to be able to make the dots all connect.
If anyone has any ideas to chip in or observations or questions, please ask! I love this idea and want to talk about it more!
-Puppy Mod

☀️ | Courting 101 | ☀️
Tumblr media
⚣☀️ A/N → Originally had these headcanons in my A/B/O Dynamics, but I wanted to give a full description layout to this. Keep in mind, that this will focus primarily on Alphas courting Omegas. Eventually, I will update in the future with Omegas courting Alphas and more. Thanks!
Tumblr media
GENERAL
Traditionally, Alphas will court Omegas.
— Even in the modern era, it is considered very taboo for an Omega to court an Alpha or for an Alpha to be courted at all by another individual. — These practices can make an Alpha be seen as weak and undesirable for a mate and an Omega considered as disgraceful and invaluable.
The goal of courting is for the courter (typically an Alpha) to engage in a series of trials in tasks in hopes of winning their beloved's affection and commitment. They have to prove themselves as a capable mate that the others can see themselves living the rest, or at least a significant portion of their lives with.
As mentioned, Alphas may not court more than one Omega at a time. An Omega, however, can be courted by more than one Alpha at a time.
Tumblr media
COURTING INITIATION/RITUALS/RULES
In tradition, it was considered respectful and even required by some families that the Alpha/courter seek the approval and blessings from the parents of the desired. Typically, they had to get it from the Alpha parent. But, if the Omega parent didn't like them, it could spell big trouble.
Any courting ritual can only be official with a courting initiation gift/present heavily doused in the scent of the courter. Typically it can be a piece of clothing, their favorite cologne/perfume, or something more personable.
– Accepting it essentially communicates that you're okay with smelling like the other and that you're opening yourself to them openly pursuing you. – Keep in mind accepting also means the Omega/courtee acknowledges that any and all actions done from that point on by the Alpha/courter are presumably done in the name of their courtship. Basically, they knew what they were signing up for when they said yes.
A permanent rejection is a serious matter and is the only official and legal matter that can prevent an Alpha/courter from trying to court an Omega/courtee besides a mating.
If the Alpha/courter in question has shown disturbing and threatening behavior towards the Omega/courtee, or the family of the desired has shown extreme disdain for the courter and seeks to prevent any and all rituals, they can issue this consequence.
Tumblr media
ALPHAS COURTING OMEGAS
Goal(s)
— It's the goal of the Alpha to prove themselves as a capable mate to the Omega of their desire. They must show they can provide, protect, and bring value to the Omega's life that they typically wouldn't get without them.
Ability To Provide
— As an Alpha, are they able to take care of the Omega? Traditionally, most people think of money and material matters in this aspect. While definitely important (more to some than others), it's not the only aspect.
— Can they provide...
– Stability & Consistency? – Happiness & Joy? – Fulfillment & Contentment?
— All things and more for the Omega along with their family (if they choose to involve them) to think about when considering if they will agree to be mated to the courting Alpha.
Ability To Protect?
— As an Alpha, are they able to protect their Omega? This is more than just guarding them from danger and threats, however. Can they truly create a sense of security and safety for the Omega in question?
– Are they able to protect them from those who would bring them harm? – Are they able to protect them from things that could harm them not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? – Can they protect them from their own selves and feelings when others or life may try to attack them from the inside?
— Again, all things to consider for the Omega and if they truly believe this Alpha can do all of these if they want their commitment.
Ability To Bring Value?
— Considered to be one of the more important aspects, as an Alpha, can they bring any value to the Omega's life that they wouldn't or couldn't get without them?
– Can the Omega see the Alpha as a potential mate and picture any benefits or incentives for them to accept the Alphas as their mate? – Do they see their lives being better with the Alpha in question as their mate? – Do they believe they can still achieve their highest dreams and goals within this relationship? Even more, do they believe they can trust the courting Alpha to support them in these journeys?
Practice/Rituals/Rules
— An Omega will know if an Alpha wants or plans to court them. There will be various signs and tellings as Alphas are not typically the most subtle regarding these matters.
– Scent Marking – Displays of Strength – Bragging/showing off skills – Unwavering interests and focus on their lives.
— If an invitation is accepted, the Alpha may perform various actions to win the Omega's favor, especially if they are competing against other courting Alphas. This includes but is not limited to...
– Gifts (clothing, food, etc.) – Dates. – Acts of Service. – Invitations to spend time with the other's families. – and more...
— If the Omega has multiple suitors courting them, the other courting Alphas may not interfere or sabotage competitors.
– HOWEVER, an Alpha reserves the right to challenge any and all courting Alphas as a grand show of strength to the Omega. – Especially, if the Omega's family is heavily involved in the process, they may even require it initially to single out one promising prospect.
— If an Alpha in particular is rejected, whether with their initial gift or through an official courting ritual, they can try to court the same Omega again. Unless they are mated or have issued a permanent rejection against the Alpha, which is rare in certain circumstances.

bites
this post is inspired by @beta-adjacent’s post about bite marks. i got really emotional thinking about friends exchanging bites and wanted to say more about it lol
bonding bite facts
bite scars, like all other scars, vary in visibility and permanence from person to person. in historical practice, various substances (clay, ash, or ink, most commonly) were applied to a fresh bite to improve visibility and permanence. modern practice uses ‘bite powder’ or ‘bite ink’ for those who want a more permanent, easily detectable scar. this is the most common scarification practice, present in most cultures globally.
bites can be exchanged in various locations on the body. claiming or mating bites tend to be found at the scent glands on the neck, but can be left anywhere on the body. marking other locations are considered nontraditional—it would be akin to wearing a wedding ring on a finger other than the left ring finger (in cultures where that is the traditional location).
healthy bonding bites do not typically affect a person’s inherent scent. a person may release more detectable ‘happy pheromones’ after exchanging bites with a loved one, but these tend to fade after a few weeks. conversely, a person may release more detectable ‘distressed pheromones’ after receiving a bite under duress, and these tend to linger much longer.
biting someone who accepts under duress is no different from biting someone who has clearly rejected it. in the US, forcing a bite is considered felony assault and battery
mating bites may be administered in a variety of settings. a traditional practice between omegas and their alpha or beta mates is to exchange bites during their first heat after the pair has agreed to mate. some cultures practice ‘claiming ceremonies,’ where the mated pair exchanges bites in front of their families and friends, community leaders, and/or religious leaders.
bite types
mating or claiming bites - most commonly located on or around the scent glands at the nape. historically, alphas were not marked when mating with betas or omegas, but in current society bites tend to be exchanged between mates of any sex rather than used as a tool for alphas to stake a claim on someone of a so-called ‘lower sex.’
pack or bonding bites - most commonly located on or around the scent glands at the wrist. in some more traditional or long-established packs, either the pack alpha or chief omega administers pack bites to new members. popular culture treats this practice as old-fashioned, with some young people referring to it as a ‘boomer bite.’ in younger or more progressive packs, any member may extend the bite to an unmarked pack mate.
camaraderie bites, also called ‘bestie bites’ - may be located anywhere on the body. a more recent practice, only from the last 60 years or so, stemming from the free love movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s. these bites are exchanged between close friends, but are not typically an expectation. to share a camaraderie bite with a friend is a mark of profound intimacy. in many young adult novels, a life changing experience shared between friends is punctuated by the exchange of camaraderie bites. some groups have expressed displeasure with this trend, as they feel it cheapens the significance of the camaraderie bite.
bite perks
mated pairs report increased happiness in their relationship, though causality between the bite’s presence and relationship satisfaction is unclear.
bite-bonded packs demonstrate a similar phenomenon with similarly unclear causality
friends who exchange camaraderie bites tend to report a stronger sense of connection, satisfaction, and contentment in all of their friendships, not just the bite-bonded one.
individuals in healthy bite-bonded relationships of any type report a stronger sense of self and belonging, which is associated with positive health outcomes, job satisfaction, and overall happiness
bite-bonded married couples and unmarried couples with registered mating bites receive the same social and legal privileges
global acceptance for same sex (i.e. a-a and o-o) mates is increasing rapidly, with legal recognition for these mating arrangements in over 85% of countries

Hi! Can you please give us some info on how tragedies like a miscarriage or infertility from an omega would be handled? Would their mate react differently depending on them being an alpha beta or omega? How do omegas commonly heal from that
These might be mostly omega based but there will be some alpha and beta hc too within.
Loss:
* Omegas who lose a pregnancy, or even just a pup at that in any form, can face it in a bunch of different ways. Shock, loud grief, self hatred, deep depression, etc.
* Everyone goes through grief differently, but for a sub gender that’s very instinctually driven (most of the time) to have children, they likely take much longer coming out of the pain/numbness that loss of a child brings.
* Omegas grieve loudly or in silence, wrapped up in the empty comfort of their nests if they have one, whether they have a partner or not, they zone out into their own grief for a good long while before they grieve together with their partner or their pack or family.
* They become glued to their partner/packmate/family members side while they’re healing, touch often serving as the most grounding thing for them. (Touch averted or sensitive omegas probably just enjoy general closeness and calming scents as their form of comfort if they’re not feeling very touchy)
* Healing from these things can take a long time and being fully healed from such a loss can never come for some, but having their close people around as much as possible gets them to or as close to healing as possible.
* For some omegas, healing might come in the form of trying for another as soon as they healthily can.
* An omega with an alpha partner will probably spend a lot of time being crooned at or rumbled at, their alpha mate doing what they can verbally but also naturally. Those sounds are not only naturally healing but also stress relieving (healing in itself). Their alpha will probably also become incredibly protective during this period, not keeping them shut in per say, but guarding them and coddling them as much as possible, they might become more growly and less tolerant of others until their omega shows signs of feeling better. The alpha will also get comfort from their omega, purring when their alpha seems down despite being down themselves. The general closeness and ability to care for their omega helps them as well through their own emotions, comfort coming in from showing care and love.
* Omegas with beta partners will likely receive very tactical and thought out care, being able to use their knack for emotional regulation as an advantage. They emit a much more relaxed protectiveness, delicate with their omega partner. They guard them less than an alpha does and more so guides them through discomforts. Betas get their comfort through similar means as alphas do, making sure their omega is comfortable and that they’re doing everything they can for that to happen. Since betas can’t make all sounds alphas or omegas can, they rely more on touch and spoken words, reciprocating sounds where they can, but more often saying sweet nothings and gently comforting their partners.
* Omegas with omega partners mourn together, omega partners knowing most what type of dread fills them up at even just the idea of losing a child. They spend a lot of time grooming their omega partner and spreading calming omega pheromones. A lot of gentle skin ship and over nesting happens, creating a super cozy space for them. Omegas can get really protective like alphas can, omegas with omega partners who’ve experienced loss can even tend to be a bit scarier. Their nest becomes their safest most sacred space while the other is healing and they won’t let anything taint the safety. They purr often, sweet chirps also joining the mix when they want the other to listen to them, coaxing them out of their dark headspace through the gentlest and most familiar of means.
Infertility:
* Omegas who find out they’re infertile or really close to infertility (struggle super hard with having children) can struggle in very different ways to omegas who have lost children.
* They struggle with deep frustration, their instincts never, or near never, able to be satisfied. Wanting so badly to have their own pups can lead to depression or bursts of frustration induced rage.
* They’ll probably be a little destructive at first, mind fighting with body more than anything. They’ll likely wall themselves up before dropping guard and needing comfort.
* Omegas who deal with infertility can sometimes deal heavily with urges to take other pups, nest robbery of sorts and they can struggle to regulate their hormones and emotions when faced with puppies especially when they first find out.
* Partners of omegas who are infertile would probably all act the same in one way or another. Alphas and betas and omega partners with infertile partners most commonly tend to be supportive, but as with any life changing issue some can react poorly too.
* Omegas deal with large self esteem issues due to infertility. Feeling like failures that one of the things their bodies should be good at, that their bodies are basically coded for, they can’t do. Omegas often have to go through a lot of therapy to feel better and if not, they spend a lot of time clinging to people in their life who provide support to them, no matter what, they often need help boosting themselves back up from that feeling of failure.
I’m sorry I don’t have more ideas for infertility but!!!! these are my little ideas for your ask! I’m sorry it’s so long and if there’s any funny mess ups I’m writing this at work oops. These are probably a little jumbled but I tried my best hehe.
