talked about this on the server but the spirit garden I made up. to most people it's creepy but that's mostly because if you think it's creepy then it's going to be. but for Maxx it's soothing, he cares for the will o wisps so they like him!! peaceful company when he needs it even if they can't speak

his room is also a good place, it has a big window facing the west so he can watch the sun set, lighting up the sky in pretty colors!! it's decorated with a bunch of cool stuff that he messes around with when he's bored (guitar, crystals, etc.)

🌾 Describe your OC through the eyes of someone absolutely head-over-heels in love with them

a lovesick fool, he's clumsy and bashful but I can't help but fall in love with him a bit more each time he's like that. I don't know, it's his smile or something?? he smiles a lot, even when he trips over himself or does something dumb. it's so happy and bright and I don't like those types of things but it always makes me feel all funny and warm

he takes care of me and is filled with more love than I ever thought I'd feel, so gentle and kind. he sews up my dresses with my favorite color in thread and ties my hair back while we cook. he has so much to give to me from a gentle and loving heart. I feel greedy taking it sometimes, but the sparkle in his eye tells me he's just as happy

Maxx likes to stargaze late at night when he gets a moment to rest, sometimes it's not too cloudy and he can see them clearly. other times when he gets a chance he loves to fly around, the breeze on his face is soothing and just how small everything looks under him. it's a free feeling

🌺 What does your OC do to calm down when they’re scared or after a nightmare? Do they have any special comfort items or need to be reassured by a specific person? How do they handle this if they’re alone?

He'll talk to someone if they're up or read till his mind feels clear. but when Perona's around he'll cuddle up with her or her Kumashi plush! when she isn't he likes to curl up in her bed and just pretend, he'll never tell her (but she knows, he knocked over her favorites plushes once)

💫What is your favourite fact about this character and why?

Probably his backstory as a rather infamous pirate!! I just think it's fun that he did it all on his own and had a name for himself, but it ties in nicely with the rest of his backstory of losing it all and having to start back at square one, learning more about himself and how to actually love himself

despite his appearance my s/i has a major sweet tooth, anything sweet he loves a lot especially homecooked desserts!! he's oddly better at it than cooking, likes making cookies when he's down but loves making intricate sandwiches for actual meals. he's a bit messy in the kitchen but gets things done!

🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

for people it's when they love him just for being him, he lived a lot of his life pretending to be someone he wasn't so it means a lot when they love the true Maxx. but for things, any sort of life on Kuraigana. a chirp of a bird, a new sprout in the garden or a bit of the sun peeking out. it's a change in the normal atmosphere he appreciates.

Basic Info

Epithet/Name: “Night Terror” or Maxx

Gender: Male (ftm)

Appearance

Short and slim, he has shaggy dark red hair and light skin. Has dark brown eyes, almost black from a distance and normally with slight dark circles around them (wears heavy eyeliner but also tends to not sleep enough)

Many scars and beauty marks on his body, the most noticeable being a scar that runs along his stomach to his hip which he had got while training with Mihawk. Two beauty marks dotting under his eye on the left and in the middle of his cheek on the right. He also has a matching tattoo (Perona’s bat tattoo) on his inner right wrist

Fashion tends to be very gothic/punk. Lots of black and red in his fashion with a touch of elegance in some outfits. More casual outfits are just a band tshirt and jeans

(can be drawn with or without glasses!!)

Personality

Awkward and not the best at interacting, especially after just meeting someone. He used to be much more cocky during his days on the sea but after meeting Mihawk he got knocked down a few pegs and learned to be a bit more respectful.

Has a sharp tongue towards those he doesn't like and is quick to defend his loved ones. A bit of a temper and can get snappy but it's rare (once again living with Mihawk changed him plenty). He won't ever admit it but he's incredibly caring to those around him, always storing little gifts to give them and taking care of them when they need it.

Backstory

Born without much of a home he spent plenty of time traveling as a stowaway aboard ships, both navy and pirate ships. He had found his devil fruit while aboard one and stole it, ending up with the power of the gagoiru-gagoiru no mi.

Ended up making a spot for himself on board a pirate ship. Starting off as a chore boy, once his devil fruit power was discovered he climbed the ranks fast through showing off his power in raids. He gained his nick name as the “night terror” by how his devil fruit could only be used at night where he would attack, ransack and eventually ship other pirate and navy ships. His bounty grew alongside his notoriety.

The weakness of his devil fruit was quickly found out and the Navy ambushed his crew during the day where Maxx was defenseless. The ship and crew’s attack and evasion methods were only successful during the night so they were left with nowhere to run and were all captured. He was left in Navy custody and was being transported to Impel Down when a storm hit, wrecking the ship he was on and leaving him stranded in the ocean.

Maxx eventually washed up on Mihawk’s island, waking up and being face to face with the warlord. Although he could've been turned in for his bounty, Mihawk decided at first it wasn't worth it and left him with the ultimatum to find a way off the island in the next few days or be killed. Maxx, who had never really had much of an experience sailing by himself (he was placed on a pedestal after his devil fruit was discovered so he never had to learn for himself how to navigate or build a ship) kept washing back up on shore or almost drowning in the sea. Eventually the Humandrills found him and tried to kill him and he was defenseless in the daylight.

Maxx managed to drag himself to Mihawk's castle to beg for mercy which he was surprisingly granted. Mihawk viewed him as wasted potential if he were to die so he let him stay as long as he cared for the castle and was willing to train with Mihawk. He learned to fight by himself without his devil fruit, picking up how to use a scythe rather fast and improving greatly.

As of now he’s fully in charge of monitoring the island and keeping things in place. He cleans the castle and occasionally joins Mihawk in dealing with Warlord affairs. His bounty was dissolved when it was learned he was working under Mihawk till the warlords as a whole were abolished. He fiercely defends Kuraigana from pirates and navy officers alike.

Devil Fruit Info

The gagoiru-gagoiru no mi or gargoyle-gargoyle fruit is a zoan type devil fruit that allows the user to turn into a gargoyle, giving them the ability to fly and a major boost in overall strength and power 

Aside from greater strength it has an overall effect on how the user views others. Gargoyles are normally used to ward off evil spirits and it gives the user the ability to tell if someone they met has bad intentions and they should be wary of them, and also gives them a better outlook if bad things are to come in situations

The downsides to the devil fruit are the fact it can only be used during the night, if activated any other time the user (regardless if it's full gargoyle form or hybrid) will turn to stone till night comes. The user also has an overall sensitivity to the light and sun even in human form

Relationship with Perona

Before meeting on Kuraigana, Maxx had been aware of her from previous Warlord meetings he'd tagged along too but never actually spoke to the pink haired girl. When she landed on Kuraigana he went into a confused panic due to being unaware Moriah had been defeated. For the first few weeks of meeting Perona and Zoro, he took to being closer to Perona out of pure curiosity to know more about her.

Perona hadn't liked him at first, treating him more like a servant than anything else but the kindness he showed her caught her attention. He was the only one happy to indulge in helping her around and being involved in her hobbies, a stark difference from the other two on the island. They both got closer through late night sleep overs in Perona's room, hanging out and telling stories from their lives previous to ending up on the island.

Pre relationship they were bumbling idiots around each other, both too nervous and stubborn to admit to liking each other but it was plainly obvious. Post relationship it's not that different, still flustered around each other and slowly navigating what it's like to be in a relationship together. They balance each other out perfectly, Maxx's more calm nature keeping Perona calm too and Perona lending help in improving Maxx's self confidence. On such a dark and lonely island, they make it much nicer for each other.

Other Relationships

Mihawk - Taught him how to wield a scythe and survive on his own. He works for him and cares for everything on his island. Although he acts like he hates him sometimes he respects him fully and will follow most things he says without arguing. He’s only alive because of him so he’s made it his duty to pay it back. Mihawk is strict with him but it's for his own good and actually enjoys having him around on an otherwise lonely island

Zoro - They act like brothers, Zoro still holds it against Maxx for trying to kill him when they first met but in Maxx’s defense he was only doing his job. They bicker a lot and are normally at each other’s necks but Maxx still is always there to patch Zoro up after training, concerned over him pushing himself too far. They look after each other and do actually care for the other but won't show it often, nor will they show vulnerability. Maxx likes him but worries that in the future he will kill Mihawk to become the greatest swordsman and often tries to steer him away from it. After Zoro left, he stays in contact with him and relays info that he learns about they Marines to keep him and his crew safe

Perona x OC SFW Word Count: 1,111 [waaaay]

Not a day went by where Mihawk longed for his peace to return. There was always so much noise now, all the yelling between Perona and Zoro, the fights and general unpleasant feelings between the two. He wasn’t sure if that grated on him more or less than the content girlish giggles that the young woman would let out whenever she spent time with the newest member of their little family.

He sighed inwardly when there was a scream from somewhere in the castle, followed by curses and the sound of a door slamming. Mihawk had never intended to settle down with anyone, certainly never wanted to have children and suddenly he’d become the father of two and possibly a father-in-law to their newest arrival.

Maxx had heard the shouting, Perona yelling about something, he just wanted to help the ghost princess. Arriving at her room he knocked on the door a few times, ignored it seemed. He sighed and tapped again before he heard a sniffle and a cry of ‘get lost’

“Hey, Perona. it’s me, Maxx…”

He heard the sobbing stop, the shuffle of platform shoes on hardwood floors before the door opened just a little. He saw her tear-stained face, signs of makeup smudging and running over her cheeks visible, also on the sleeve of her dress where she’d tried to make herself presentable to him, she bit her lip and looked up at him with big doe eyes, her eyebrows still furrowed.

“What’s wrong?” Maxx asked as he pushed the door to open a little more, wanting to peer into her room and make sure everything was okay, he had a feeling they’d had a falling out with Zoro, again.

“Kumacy,” she started, a whimper in her voice, tears starting to brim once more as she blinked long lashes at him.

“What happened?”

“Stupid, moss head, idiots ripped him, look!” She shuffled over to her bed, picking up the plushie and holding it up, the poor thing’s arm had almost come completely off, the leg a little wonky along with it.

“I can fix it, don’t worry.” Maxx offered with a bright smile, seeing the glimmer of hope in her eyes when he’d said that. “Really?!” she squeaked, the giddiness returning to her voice as she clutched the bear to her chest.

“Yeah, let me just grab some things, okay?”

She nodded and watched him rush off to his room, coming back with a small sewing kit. He sat on the bed, pulling out the tools he would need to fix the plush up. Perona floated over to her tea set, getting things ready, wanting to make them something to drink. Maxx looked at the bear, how he seemed so loved to death.

“You love this little guy huh? Don’t worry I will sort him out.” He said with a determined nod.

He worked away at the toy, gently attaching the arm, stronger than before, he checked over the other parts, anything that seemed precariously close to the damage he would stick up, reinforce. He looked over the bear and smiled, gently tugging on each limb, making sure it was all secure.

He noticed the hat was detachable, and that gave him an idea. He glanced over his shoulder, watching as she floated from place to place, making them tea, setting up the little tea set on the table, a smile on her pretty lips.

Mihawk’s favourite person in the world was Maxx, he was able to calm Perona down, keep her sweet and bubbly, lifted her mood and defused any situation the swordsman had managed to cause. Maxx was a valued member of this castle. Maxx started to work on a little extra project while his girlfriend was looking for the decorative tin that contained sweet treats, a perfect accompaniment to the tea she’d prepared.

He stitched and cut, he used a bit of one thread, then another, working on the project with diligence and haste, always looking over his shoulder when he heard the little clatters of china cups on matching saucers.

“I made us some tea!” she beamed, letting herself land on the floor, the clop of her platforms on the floor once more sounding like he’d run out of time, good job he’d just finished. He turned around, holding the plush out in his arms, a smile on his face.

Perona set down the biscuits before she let out a happy squeak, rushing over to her partner, grabbing the plush and hugging it so tightly to her chest, grateful tears started to spill, her makeup once again started to run, she didn’t cry though, she was happy. She let out a hic-up and threw her arms around Maxx.

“Thank you, thank you!”

“It’s okay! I’m always here for you okay? I’ll patch up any problem for my ghost princess!” Maxx smiled softly seeing how her eyes shimmered with more tears, pulling him against her and crying.

He was sure he’d have makeup splatter on his clothes, he didn’t mind. His princess was happy again, grinning ear to ear as she swung her prized plush around in her arms. They soon settled down for their tea party, the girl in much higher spirits than she was when he’d knocked on her door.

She was happily chatting away with Maxx, pouring another cup of tea, laughing and smiling. Her cute giggle-filled his ears and made his heart thump louder and faster in his chest. He did love his princess.

“I said I would help Mihawk with something, you don’t mind if I head out, right?” he stood up, walking to where she was sitting, arms around her neck, kissing her blushing cheeks, she could feel his smile on her skin.

She never thought she’d meet someone who fits so perfectly with her. He patched up more than a torn dress, a ripped hem, a tatty plushie. He had filled her heart and made it new again, reminding her of the fairytales she used to read to herself when she was growing up.

The ghost princess had finally met her spooky prince. She nodded to Maxx, knowing he would return to her side the moment he was done helping someone else. She watched her partner leave, making Kumacy wave his paw as he waved back, leaving the room.

Perona noticed something, the hat on the bear’s head seemed different somehow. She pulled it off and peered into it. There are coloured threads, like a patchwork made of letters said ‘Patched up with love, Maxx’ she whined out once more, letting herself sob and hold the plushie close.

“I need a waterproof mascara, don’t I Kumacy?”

Perona and you would always help Mihawk in the gareden

helping picking the grapes, spreading fertilizer to help them grow or watering the vines

and believe it or not, in the castle the worlds greatest swordsman kept plants too or more like flowers

well actually you did the most help, your girlfriend mostly just sat around somewhere or pretended to be working, she just didn't want to work in the summer heat outside

since his (forced) retirement from the Seven Warlods he didn't have to attend some boring meetings or do stuff for the Marines anymore, now he could fully concentrate in his hobby - gardening

even though she wasn't quite fond of it, it was just a matter of time until Perona got investigated in how to garden

the first time you noticed that was when she'd "secretly" followed Mihawk around the castle and watched him taking care of his plants

you'd walk up to her while she basically stalked taka no me and asked her why she was following him and if she's by any chance suddenly interested in gardening

Perona would shush you with her finger on your lips making "shhh" noises and looking around to see if Mihawk noticed the two of you, luckily for her he didn't

you'd look at her with a questioning face when she sighed

"I-it's not like I'm suddenly interested or something"

100% tsundere mode and her cheeks red as tomatoes

she explained to you that she thought it'd be cute to raise her and your favorite flowers, then she'd have something to surprise you with but now you found out so she had no chance anymore to surprise you

you giggled because of what she said what made her pout her cheeks with a, now, smalled blush on them

"Well, if it's like that why won't we just do it together? it'd be as if we're raising children! it'd be our thing, our couple hobby"

more words weren't needed to convince her

she nodded furiously until a certain black haired man stood behind her and scared her

"if you want i can teach you"

"w-where are you coming from, haa? did you spy on us? you pervert!"

"I did nothing you didn't do too, Perona"

their brickering would go on like that for a couple of minutes until your love had finally calmed down again and gave in

the next thing that happened was you, perona and your newfound teacher going into the glasshouse where the tropical plants Mihawk took care of were located

he said you'd find here some spare pots and seeds of different kind of flowers

it didn't take you two long to find the seeds of your favourite, in the meantime Mihawk prepared everything you needed on a free table outside of the glasshouse

he explained to you and perona in detail how to start raising flowers and you followed every step, more or less

one time, when perona tried to grab the small shovel, she threw the whole package with earth on the ground and it stained her dress

she started sobbing because of it and the lovely s/o you are you ran with her inside and she changed her clothes to more proper ones - a short pink-black skirt and a white button-up shirt

back at the table you noticed that Mihawk was a little annoyed of her

Perona didn't like to make herself dirty nor to wear "ugly" things, so there was no other option than those two when it came to putting fertilizer and earth into the pot

but Perona was ambitious, she didn't want to disappoint you so she gave the best she could

after her protesting to get help and Mihawk scolding her for taking so long and for being so "extra" it was finally time to put the seeds into the pot

you both opened your package, put a few of them in your hands and then sticked them into earth before you watered them

with muddy faces and arms you both looked at each and smiled brightly

you carried the pots inside and put them to the window of your shared bedroom

now it was only a matter of time until your flowers would start to sprout and then to blossom

the letter is slightly crumpled, a box of snacks arrived alongside it filled with an assortment of sweet treats

"Dear Perona,

my love, my sweet my darling, I am in hell. well more of metaphorically, I shouldn't have tagged along with Mihawk to a warlord meeting because I hate it here. everyone is scary and I think I'm driving Mihawk wild asking to go home.

but!! they do have snacks, I took as many as I could to send to you. all the ones I've tried taste delicious and I thought you'd enjoy them too. I miss you plenty, there's so many people yet I still feel lonely. I just want to give you a hug and lay down in your bed and chat, it's always so nice to cuddle up in the comfy blankets and listen to your pretty voice

we should be heading home soon, or at least that's what Mihawk has told me so I'll be quiet. I've taken good care of the Kumashi plush you leant me, he still smells as sweet as your perfume and it makes me happy. we both hope to see you soon!

-Perona laid on her plush bed, feet swinging up in the air with a small smile on her face as she read your letter. Her hand dived back into the box the letter came with as she happily munched on the snacks you sent her.

The castle had seemed all too empty with not only you, but Mihawk gone as well, and the ghost princess was all too eager to respond to the letter you sent. Floating over to her desk, she pulls out a cute stationary, bought especially to write letters to you. With an almost too-cute-to-use pen in her hand, she eagerly writes you back. -

Please come back soon, this castle is too big even with you and Mihawk here- it feels like a complete wasteland without anyone else here. The ghosts are keeping me company I guess, but neither of them are as cute as you or Kumashi (but mostly you). I tried to tell you you wouldn't like that silly warlords meeting, didn't I? It's not cute that Mihawk is keeping you there instead of letting you come home, I hope you get back soon.

The snacks were delicious, send me more if you get the chance! Or bring more home when you come back, the ones you sent are going to go fast- they're so tasty~! The packaging was so cute I almost couldn't open it- you always knew how to make things just the way I love them. And you included all my favorites, that makes it even cuter! I'll enjoy each and every bite I get and think of you when I eat them. ♡

I hope you come home soon, the bed feels too big and empty without another person in it with and it's too cold without you. The ghosts aren't nearly as fun to talk with, either. They're boring! I can't wait to hear all the stories you have from it, or to hear how boring it was. Let's be sure to chat about it with more snacks when you're back, okay? And I promise I'll give Mihawk a talking to for making you stay there the whole time with him. He should have had the decency to let you go home when you wanted to. Mihawk better be telling the truth if he says you're coming home soon, I miss you too much for you to be gone much longer. I hope you're staying safe around those scary warlords- so many of them are NOT cute at all, be careful. Mihawk better not be making you fight any of them or letting them pick on you. I know you're strong enough to hold your ground, but it's the least he could do for not letting you come home already.

Perona’s giggle was infectious, the way she grabbed your arm as you walked by her side was just as addictive. Watching her painted lips curl into a smile was enough to have your heart racing. Perona didn’t give out her attention and affection to just anyone.

She made you feel worthy. Loved. Something about this moment, with her, how she batted those long eyelashes at you. You knew she wasn’t going anywhere.

She giggled once more, closing her eyes, and squeezing your arm. The way she was with you, over anyone else, well, you knew she was in love with you, even if she wasn’t there with saying it just yet.
