i think if you view 'illicit affair' as a secret relationship rather than an actual affair, the song gets very queer. lines like 'godforsaken mess' and 'you showed me colours you know i can't see with anyone else' just shout 'i am QUEER' and don't tell me u don't think the line 'you know damn well for you i would ruin myself a million little times' is not the epitome of gay pining.
