See the thing is I think a fundemental thing about Gale Dekarios is that if he didn’t have a love interest to talk him down he would claim the crown every time. Because I don’t think he would even stop to think about whether it’s a good idea or not, just like he didn’t stop to think about the orb the forst time. Did he learn his lesson that time? Sort of. He’s going to be super careful about rebuilding the crown. No mistakes! No research undone! He learned his lesson in the sense that now he thinks he was being too hasty and not thinking it through with all the facts… but he has all the facts now. And Karsus’ own book! I think that’s such a fundemental part of his character. Also, he’s impulsive! He dies and says things without thinking all the time! Like yes he does it in a charming way and the way Tim plays him leads you to believe he’s jokingly doing it but I’m not so sure. His impulsivity, despite what Larian try and make you believe in scenes like the Blood of Lathander, has only marginally improved from when he discovered the orb. In fact, he’s been lovked in a tower for a year, if anything that made it worse now that there’s so much to see and do again.

“But his friends!” I hear you say. Well, disembodied voice that represents my imaginary audience, to that I say- he had friends before. Supposedly. And I have this feeling that he’d think no matter how good of a friendship he has with someone, they’ll leave at the drop of a hat if he does anything wrong ever. Maybe- MAYBE- one of the others could convince him not to do it (I’m thinking Wyll probably) but idk how much sway that would hold with him given his past with people like Elminster and I assume his other collegues. And another very prominent characteristic of his is that he is very romantically motivated. Even one of his wishes if you talk to that mirror is some shit about a tower being a refuge for him and his sweetheart or whatever (I love this sap of a man). I think more than a lot of the others, he is really looking for a deep connection, a deep companionship, and in the absence of something like that I think he’ll settle for the best revenge against Mystra he can concieve of which is wresting her magic from her or becoming better than her. (Granted it doesnt exactly work out that way but that is the groundwork of his plan)

So I think, in conclusion, if there are a hundred alternate universes Gale would persue the crown of karsus in 98 of them. The two other possibilities being he has a romantic partner that does not share his ambitions or think they will harm him and thus talks him out of it, or he does for some reason listen to a voice of reason which he has come to trust as much as his own (the only companion I can concieve of this as being is Wyll or an unromanced Tav/Durge)

Hi. Thank you for the compliment; glad to hear I’m not bastardizing him. But anyways.

In regards to your question, a lot of the stuff that he goes for is more of a lowering of boundaries than anything. He allows himself to not psycho-analyze your every word or make the effort to look deeper into what you say. He eats things that you say he should eat (even if he hasn’t had them before), he trusts that whatever you’re telling him is as close to reality as you can reasonably give him, he’ll actually sleep around you, things like that. As an incredibly paranoid guy, he gets pretty used to just constantly being in work mode, so he ultimate sign that he’s attached to you would probably be his ability or willingness to shut his brain off and just be when you’re around.

I can also see him trying his best to sort of cram all the things he thinks a boyfriend should be doing into what little time he has with you. He’ll insist on paying for everything and letting you make decisions about food and movies and things like that so that he isn’t making himself a burden. If you hear something go bump in the night, he’ll be the one to go check whatever it is out for you. Don’t expect him to make many first moves, though; he’ll do something traditionally romantic if you’ve dropped hints that it’s something you’d appreciate but he considers whatever relationship you two have to be precarious at best so he makes an effort not to push it.

Further into the relationship, I think he’d be very into physical affection. He would prefer not to initiate it at first for fear of scaring you off, but if that’s something history proves you enjoy, he’ll get real clingy real quick, playing with your hair and your clothes and your hands and whatever else is in reach to keep his hands busy.

Not a big terms of affection guy. Occasionally he’ll say something, but when it comes to this sort of thing he’s not the best at putting things in a very palatable way, so his attempts at that is a bit stiff, which is by no means intentional— he sincerely is trying his best to be romantic— but something he is at least somewhat conscious of as soon of the words leave his mouth. “You don’t poison me, which I appreciate.” “I can be very annoying; thank you for not smothering me in my sleep.” “I find you very attractive.” It’s not the most graceful thing in the world, but once in a blue moon he’ll try. The unfortunate thing is that, if he were in a work environment, he absolutely could flirt, but because he’s used to relaxing around you he just sort of forgets how. People are hard anyways; if he can get the point across, that’s what matters.

How do you think Gale would react, when faced with a more or less direct love confession of Tav?

How would he react when he notices that someone is interested in his wife, despite her assuring him it not to be the case. (Completely obtuse to it, contrary to Gale, who sees right through the motivations of that "acquaintance".)

I think, if this happens in the space between the last cutscene and the epilogue, or any point after the epilogue, Gale would be secure enough in himself (and in his knowledge that Tav loves him) that any declaration of attraction--whether drunkenly flirting or absolutely serious--doesn't worry him overmuch. If anything it would amuse him because this person is so clearly getting nowhere and he'd maybe be a little proud and pleased, as it only makes sense that Tav would captivate, well, anyone.

(In fact, during their adventures Gale recalled the clear interest the other members of their merry band had demonstrated, and how Tav seemed to be completely immune to their charms--even those Gale had felt sure would captivate her. At the time he hadn't quite been able to understand her disinterest had been because of him, that she'd been waiting for him to give her some kind of signal, a hint, anything that said she might have a chance with him. So wrapped up in the fog of the tadpole, the Orb, his own catastrophic mistakes, he'd been blind to the bright beacon of her affection.) "My love," Gale said as they meandered away from the Yawning Portal and into the air of an early Waterdhavian summer evening, "I thought that gentleman you were speaking to just now seemed quite taken with you." Rank butchery of some of the finest poetry Gale had ever read, but he supposed that was to be expected. "Drunk," Tav repeated, adding another nudge to Gale's ribs for good measure. "Perhaps," Gale said, though he'd had his doubts; the man's gaze, hands, worshipful devotion, had bespoken sobriety. "However..."

He paused and she turned to face him, eyes bright and inquisitive in the lamplight. "As one who lives in thy heart," he brushed her cheek, fingers trailing down her neck to where her heart beat steady under her cloak, "has died in thy lap more times than I could count," and he felt the skip of her heart as she laughed in response to his slow smile, the catch of breath under her ribs as she caught his meaning, "and died and been reborn in thy eyes... believe me when I say I know a fellow worshiper when I see them."

Hmmm, this is a hard one haha. But what is life without a challenge?

01: Being a hard worker and never giving up!

My family and I went through many difficulties since my father died in 2015. It was through my hard work and my mother's never ending support that I've managed to improve our situation; last year, I finally managed to save up enough money to allow us to go on a short holiday with our pets. These little wins feel great.

02: I'm relatively cheery and tell a lot of jokes.

Even though sometimes it's difficult to have a positive outlook on life, I manage to keep happy by just being myself and cracking jokes often.

03: Having blue/green eyes.

It's very funny, because no one ever knows whether they're blue or green. I think they change colour depending on the light.

04: Being open minded.

I would say it's one of the qualities I like most about myself, because it allows me to see every side of an argument in such a way where I can make a careful analysis.

05: My writing

The hobby I missed the most during this long hiatus. Being able to express myself through writing is beyond liberating.

okay so something that makes me UpsettiSpaghetti™ is the fact that since L, Mello, Matt, and Near were raised in England... THEY SHOULD HAVE ENGLISH ACCENTS, NO?? LIKE WHY ARE THEY NOT ENGLISH??? THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SO COOL IN THE DUB, BUT NO. APPARENTLY THIS FUCKING SHOW DEFIES THE LAWS OF COUNTRIES AND ACCENTS. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? IM DONE. IM DONE WITH THIS SHOW AND ITS GODDAMN PLOT HOLES. FUCK. (but in all seriousness i love your art it's 11/10 you are so talented and I'm sorry for the rant)

So they were definitely raised in England but the series states that Watari collects little kiddos from all over the world so my personal theory is that all of the kids are all from different countries (and yes, volume 13 states he has orphanages all over the world, not just in England, but we can also assume that not all of them could be a special breeding ground for baby geniuses… right? I mean, L’s entire career would just be giving weird speeches over Skype to every separate orphanage)… and as somebody from the Northern part of the U.S. originally, I have kind of a Canadian dialect I suppose… but I’ve lived in the south for years now and I haven’t really picked up an accent whatsoever… I’ll admit I now say “y’all” unironically buuuuut.. that’s another story….

I also theorize they were probably encouraged to be multilingual and lose their natural accents and mannerisms completely… in order to be able to better adapt disguises, etc. Plus it probably would have been really tacky cuz you know they wouldn’t have hired actual British VAs LMAO. It would have only been good if Mello was like OI BRUV MATE WOT CHEEKY NANDOS every other word.. in all seriousness thank you and I’m sorry you’re suffering with the rest of us @ all of the questions this series leaves us with….

Okay this is a popular one but lemme just put together a list of reasons based on the Death Note Anime because this headcanon is so fricking exciting to me!! Feel free to add more.

-Speaks in a monotone voice

-Ignores common social rules of interaction, talks in a very blunt manner (“Matsuda, YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!!!”). Not necessarily obscene but sort of macabre language?

-On occasion, extremely good at empathizing, hence he can often be several steps ahead of Kira.

-Strong morals and sense of justice. Well, questionable morals at times, but strong nonetheless.

-Literally only wears one outfit consisting of a baggy shirt & jeans.

-NEVER WEARS SOCKS. Shoes only when absolutely necessary.

-The way he sits, with his legs up. Iconic. He says it helps him think. (Sitting a certain way for specific sensory input? Absolutely a thing.)

-Constantly fidgeting.

-Holds things “weirdly” (phone, paper). Dyspraxia?

-Can only eat certain foods. Literally. The anime only shows him eat sweets, snacks, and the occasional strawberry or banana. Drinks basically only tea with loads of sugar. Probably can’t handle savoury or spicy foods at all?

-Possibly has joint hypermobility or similar collagen defects (which are common-ish in autistic people). Could be the cause of his extremely pale skin, the permanent dark circles under his eye, bad posture and also another reason for him to sit his usual way.

- 24/7 fixated on the Kira case.

-Special Interests in crime solving (he solves cases on an international level under multiple pseudos!!) and especially the Kira case.

I am in full L analyse mode for some reason and I keep looking at the L: Wammy House manga and I just… This panel.

Child L doesn’t know what a hug is.

Child L associates touching with violence.

Child L knows how to defend himself.

What happened to you L? What were your parents like?

And I keep thinking on that scene in the manga where Misa kills Hirokazu Ukita… L reacts somewhat fine to it, like so:

Doing his detective work, caring about it sure but remaining calm to a degree. But then Shuichi Aizawa touches him and his body language changes.

He’s like… more curled in to himself and he looks to be shaking. Is it because he was touched? Is it because he was grabbed by someone who was yelling at him? Has he had experience with this before?

Oh L… Oh L, what has happened to you?

Light and Kira are one person, which makes Light storyline tragic because even when he doesn’t remember being a killer, he actually is.

They have common points. When he acts as Kira, Light lies as brilliantly as he used to when Kira wasn’t part of his life. When he dons Kira’s mask, Light creates another reality, fitting, for a boy who used to daydream to escape a world he deemed rotten. But if you ask me, they were also totally different. Not only the musical themes highlight the differences in their personalities, but it’s obvious someone who killed and felt guilty for that will develop new traits to cope with reality, to survive (ie : cruelty for instance, ruthlessness…when he used to be someone waiting for the days to pass).

You can’t dissociate Light from Kira, because it would mean alleviating his responsibility. And yet, you can’t equate Light with Kira because on many points Kira -Light’s coping mechanism- is stronger than Light -the person it was meant to protect from being labeled as a criminal for ever in society’s eyes. And that’s what make the whole character a formidable paradox.

I still love how anime!L’s “Have you ever told the truth since the day you were born” follows a whole arc of memoryless Light consistently telling the truth.

It doesn’t mean L has seen through Light, it just means L is thinking what we wants with no regard for or understanding of what is in front of him.

Light has been honest for three months before this statement.

L is blatantly just wrong.
