This is Potch and Chia’s baby, Roots! (you colour-identified them for me)

Potch is an ash-red T-check and Chia is a blue grizzle.

Is Roots just a blue check? Do you think he will develop grizzle as he grows?

How absolutely fascinating!! I could have sworn Chia was homozygous grizzle! She must be het!

Otherwise, Roots should be visibly grizzled, at least in the wing tips.

Maybe there is tome pied going in in there that gives her more white?

Ooh! Or she could be het for both grizzle and Tiger, but homozygous for neither?

Roots does appear to be a standard dirty blue check with a pied carrier marker, so the pied involved must be recessive.

Please keep me posted of this baby! I'd love to see when their big bird feathers come in!

They like to run in front of my car, keeping my rides home very relaxing 👍

Luckily, the not-so-little guys are fast and can avoid most oncoming vehicles, with a bit of help from my foot slamming the break with all my might lol

Everyone knows wild turkeys are quite large.

But if you have the opportunity to get close to one, their size can really startle you.

The most incredible pigeon out there

Strutting in as our next bird; the Nicobar pigeon.

The nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) is a pretty good sized pigeon from India! The bird, while known for its fantastic, beaming rainbow iridescent feathers is also known for being the closest living relative of the dodo (yes, the dodo was a pigeon!) and also near threatened. It is also the only living member in its genus. Amazing!
