A scene from the first chapter on TLAA. This was one of the first substantial bits of Encanto art I made though I was still struggling to nail down the art style at the time, so Bruno looks a little rough. I still love this scene though. Bruno and Alma still have a lot they need to talk about, like really actually talk about, but this moment is a good start. Despite all her failings, Alma really does love her son, and Bruno still loves his mother. Unfortunately untangling the trauma of child abuse from the sincere love and affection that was always there is a complicated and difficult process.

THE THIEF AND THE PROPHET  CHAPTER 2: 【 THE DEVIL'S HANGED MAN 】

「 The celebrations have begun! It's a joyous time of laughter, reminiscing, and preparation in the days leading up to the wedding of Dolores and Mariano. Well...for everyone else, at least.

Bruno finds himself a little overwhelmed by all the festivities, feeling a lot of pressure to not make accidentally 'ruining weddings' a tradition of his.

It doesn't help that the strange talisman he won in a dice game is attracting a lot of unwanted attention when it's revealed that the jewel merchant is said to be a 'gold thief' who lures people in with stories and 'fools gold' in exchange for real gold. 

Meanwhile, the mysterious jewel merchant, Chel, returns home, where she mopes in a bath after finding another gray hair. Thankfully, her sister, Inés, is there to boost her spirits, as are the magical charms of her youngest nephew, Vito.  」 ✨| CHAPTER 3:  A flashback to almost 12 years ago right before Mirabel's ceremony and Bruno's disappearance. Chel returns to The Encanto with her family and has a conversation with a mysterious stranger.

At last, the fourth wdtajn entry for the song theme. Did I go all the way to draw a painfully tiny rat orchestra because Carmina Burana is pretty much the only musical piece I'm playing at my orchestra? Yes.

With that said, I truly enjoyed the wdtajn event, I drew things I never would have drawn otherwise and I'm so glad for the experience and for seeing so much new Encanto content :D

I wanted to challenge myself to write, thumbnail and board out a short story thing in 3 days— and here’s the result! + some frames I liked!

There’s a few things I’d definitely go back and push, but I’m really proud of myself for sticking to the challenge and knocking this out!

Doing this challenge made me realize that I give myself waaaay too much time to do projects. Also— I need to stop using the word “projects”😂 there’s so much pressure in that word. I def want to start doing more of these and scale back a ton. Trying to train myself to get faster, looser and just board way more in general, not just when I’m in need of a new portfolio piece. I’ve started way too many “projects” and let them gather dust bc I gave myself too much time to do em and lost interest over time— so this was a good affirmation for me to show myself what I can do in a short period of time! Maybe I’ll try to do something in 3 hours next time 🤔 lmao yikes
