I took this picture years ago and it’s so bizarre to me to see it pop up in random places (always without credit, of course).  My favorite thing to come out of it was how someone said the flame was so fake and obviously photoshopped and i was like....bro i literally filled a pumpkin with lighter fluid and coals and threw a match at it

After years of battling through hardship, I’ve finally finished my first original novel.  

I can’t describe the elation, the joy, the relief.  I questioned myself so many times, questioned my purpose.  I had some low lows.  It seemed at times that the tribulations and tragedies of my personal life were sent to keep me from finishing this book.  But everything feels worth it now.  

Today was the first day in over a decade where I didn’t feel shame for not having written a novel yet.  I never realized how debilitating this dark undercurrent was until I could do things like play a video game or stay in bed late today without guilt.  I’m (holy crap) proud of myself.  I’m proud of my book, even if it goes nowhere and I’m the only one who ever enjoys it.  I worked so hard, and I pulled it off, and...I can’t wait to write the next one.

And now I’m going to have a big ass shot of tequila.
