Reading descriptions of Dostoevsky’s novels is always funny because they never accurately convey the real state of things. They are like “this book is about an *event*. this is the main theme, everything revolves around it”. And then you start reading, get through one third of the book, and the plot doesn’t even come close to the promised major event, it’s just introductions of a crowd of people you don’t give a shit about with so much background that you suddenly know them better than yourself, long suffering discussions of God and/or politics, somebody’s death, and only when you forget what the book was even supposed to be about and just start vibing rolling with it, the event finally happens

sorry but i think the pushback against reading classics is so dumb 😔 like you don’t have to read them if you don’t want but the vitriol people have against “classics” (which literally isn’t even a genre but just books that are highly regarded) is just so stupid 😔

#LITERALLY #nobody HAS to read them #but if they say it’s a limited genre they’d be lying #the classics span literal thousands of years and hundreds of cultures #they have such variety and beauty #theres so much more to the classics than what’s taught in high school
