My highlights of Bodley's Beastiary on the lion:

• like a King he disdains the company of the masses

• His second characteristic is that he seems to have his eyes open when he sleeps.

• His third characteristic is that when the lioness brings forth her cubs, they come into the world dead.

• The nature of the lion is such that he is not enraged by men if he is not harmed by them. [...] The merciful nature of lions is confirmed by multiple examples: they will spare men lying on the ground, and will lead captives whom they meet to their homes. They will attack men rather than women. They will only kill children if they are exceptionally hungry. Equally, they will abstain from eating to excess

• They mate face to face, as do the lynx, camel, elephant and rhinoceros.

• A sick lion will seek out an ape and devour it in order to be cured.

• The lion fears cocks, especially white cocks

The first thing that comes to mind when I consider bringing a thing/person/place from my WIP into the real world is RUBY! But Kassandra would be be heartbroken & hold a deadly grudge against me. Not sure I want that.

Can I bring them both & call them an item? 👀

It is hard to admit we are lost

When we do not know who to be

We find ourselves in a storm, tempest-tossed

Yet this anchor brings hope back to me:

Despair is a siren, tempting, caressing

We are sailors on the sea of life

The world is a muse, Atlantis, a blessing

So we are not bearers of strife

The very earth bends to an unknown will

The sun is not ours to command

Living is joyous disaster, a thrill

We are more than grains of sand

And in the times when I feel too small,

I sit still and listen for poetry's call

The advice of "every word has to advance the plot" is so wild like why are you starving it. If story is craving some good scene that doesn't advance the plot but it's cool and you want it to happen, do it. Feed your story so it can grow strong.
