The ending of Gregor the Overlander is soooooo very....... i wish i knew but to me it means sooo much that it's kind of ambiguous. and it makes me sad but i feel like its important that Gregor lives his life in the Overland and never returns to the Underland. it's part of the theme of the book, that horrible things happen to these children and then they suddenly have to cope in a world where their experiences are utterly alien and unrelatable.

i understand why people write fics where he goes back, and i know he would miss Luxa and his other friends, but at the end of the day it's important that he never goes back.

Does regalia have salons? Are there human ones and bat ones? Or just different sections for the species? Going to cosmetology school you gotta learn how to do fliers or humans? Do flier stylists get paid more? Do you just usually do both? In every salon are the seats arranged human-flier-human-flier- so bonds always sit next to each other and same species friends sit across??

Do fliers hang from the ceiling and the stylist has a step ladder? ?? Would a little thing like Aurora get one stylist whereas Ares would get two or three?

now listen- i am fully aware how perfect the song Sound The Bugle is for Spirit. I do. But do I also think Bryan Adams took inspiration from Gregor to write it? Absolutely.

"As the seasons change, remember how I used to be" gregor trying to remember who he was before the Underland. 'he was in the band. he had played the sax. he liked running'

"I got nothing left, just an empty heart" lost ares. heartbroken

"I'm a soldier, wounded so I must give up the fight" willing to die. accepts it after ares death. broken

"Or leave me lying here" that scene where he waits holding ares claw and sees the light and wants to go into it

There's a voice that calls, "Remember who you are" If you lose yourself, your courage soon will follow" literally ripred. ripred calls to him. reminds him he has courage and that he doesnt believe in the prophecies. that he can beat the bane. that hes strong. and stubborn. and has courage.

Would love to see your thoughts on a Hunger Games reread someday!

I think that would be SO fun! But I'm sure it'll be a long time before I get around to it, if ever. Nate and I already have plans to start another podcast about an entirely unrelated book series soon (@thefoxholecast), so I'll have my hands very full until I finish the Underland Chronicles for RTR. And even after we get through all the Gregor books, I have ideas for more episodes about various themes and characters! So I guess you'll have to check back in with me in 2027 about a potential Return to Panem 😅
