the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.

IT IS ACE WEEK!
So let's talk about asexuality! This is an introduction trying to cover as much as possible in a little format, so its mostly surface level stuff. You're gonna have to dig on your own :P
For more information, I recommend checking out aceweek.org or acesandaros.org ! You can also read up on ace history through the Asexual Manifesto by Lisa Orlando !
Actual links and Image description coming in a reblog ;)

y'know, one thing i don't see get talked about much in regards to asexuality is how it feels to never be 'sexually motivated' by anything
and not just when it comes to advertisements using 'sexy' models to try and sell you stuff, but like. in general
sex as a favor, sex as a bribe, sex in exchange for whatever
casual sex, 'friends with benefits' situations, even simple flirting
it all looks a whole lot different from the perspective of someone who's immune to manipulation via sex appeal, who has virtually no understanding as to why sex would motivate someone to cheat on their partner, etc. etc.
sex is worthless to me
i mean, it's useful as a story element in fiction, but it genuinely perplexes me that sex is such a driving force behind so many aspects of irl society & of people's individual lives, for better or for worse
and that it's so deeply ingrained into how the average person views the world & various situations, because the average person feels sexual attraction, whereas i do not
i think the barrier between aces & allos is actually even deeper than it seems on the surface at times, because it's more than just the grating expectation that everyone must want to 'settle down' and have kids, it's also the fact that the majority of the world is sort of 'in' on a joke that aces will never truly be a part of

want to write a story abt a ghost falling in love w a lonely college student throughout quarantine, and as things start opening back up and the kid starts going out for longer and longer, one day eventually disappearing to their dorm, the ghost tries to balance the sadness that comes with knowing they cant escape their tether to the house and being happy because suddenly there’re smiles on the kid’s face where there used to be ragged tears

fucking hell, nothing like having a “good-bye” thrust in your face seemingly out of the blue
“I don’t care if it’s a sad good-bye or a bad good-bye, but when I leave a place I like to know I’m leaving it.”

NASA’s Search for Life: Astrobiology in the Solar System and Beyond
Are we alone in the universe? So far, the only life we know of is right here on Earth. But here at NASA, we’re looking.
Tumblr media
We’re exploring the solar system and beyond to help us answer fundamental questions about life beyond our home planet. From studying the habitability of Mars, probing promising “oceans worlds,” such as Titan and Europa, to identifying Earth-size planets around distant stars, our science missions are working together with a goal to find unmistakable signs of life beyond Earth (a field of science called astrobiology).
Dive into the past, present, and future of our search for life in the universe.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: The Viking Project
Launch: Viking 1 on August 20, 1975 & Viking 2 on September 9, 1975
Status: Past
Role in the search for life: The Viking Project was our first attempt to search for life on another planet. The mission’s biology experiments revealed unexpected chemical activity in the Martian soil, but provided no clear evidence for the presence of living microorganisms near the landing sites.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: Galileo
Launch: October 18, 1989
Status: Past
Role in the search for life: Galileo orbited Jupiter for almost eight years, and made close passes by all its major moons. The spacecraft returned data that continues to shape astrobiology science –– particularly the discovery that Jupiter’s icy moon Europa has evidence of a subsurface ocean with more water than the total amount of liquid water found on Earth.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: Kepler and K2
Launch: March 7, 2009
Status: Past
Role in the search for life: Our first planet-hunting mission, the Kepler Space Telescope, paved the way for our search for life in the solar system and beyond. Kepler left a legacy of more than 2,600 exoplanet discoveries, many of which could be promising places for life.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: Perseverance Mars Rover
Launch: July 30, 2020
Status: Present
Role in the search for life: Our newest robot astrobiologist is kicking off a new era of exploration on the Red Planet. The rover will search for signs of ancient microbial life, advancing the agency’s quest to explore the past habitability of Mars.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: James Webb Space Telescope
Launch: 2021
Status: Future
Role in the search for life: Webb will be the premier space-based observatory of the next decade. Webb observations will be used to study every phase in the history of the universe, including planets and moons in our solar system, and the formation of distant solar systems potentially capable of supporting life on Earth-like exoplanets.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: Europa Clipper
Launch: Targeting 2024
Status: Future
Role in the search for life: Europa Clipper will investigate whether Jupiter’s icy moon Europa, with its subsurface ocean, has the capability to support life. Understanding Europa’s habitability will help scientists better understand how life developed on Earth and the potential for finding life beyond our planet.
Tumblr media
Mission Name: Dragonfly
Launch: 2027
Status: Future
Role in the search for life: Dragonfly will deliver a rotorcraft to visit Saturn’s largest and richly organic moon, Titan. This revolutionary mission will explore diverse locations to look for prebiotic chemical processes common on both Titan and Earth.
