its crazy how people deny the 10th Doctor’s shitty treatment of Martha was at least partially the result of anit-Black writing and misogynoir!! they’ll literally be like “no it wasn’t racism uwu he was just sad about Rose” my sibling in christ, even if that were the sole reason for the 10th Doctor behaving the way he did, that is still NOT any kind of reason enough to treat another person like that. “i am sad about my ex so i am literally going constantly compare you to her to your face and insult you by saying you’re not as good as her and yell at you for even trying to ask me about it” IS straight up insanely boarderline abusive behaviour that isn’t excuseable. and for y’all to pretend this was not at least escalated by Martha being Black is utter lunacy. ESPECIALLY when you saw how the 10th Doctor treated Donna in the special BEFORE he met Martha and he treated her with NOWHERE NEAR with the same level of vitriol. he even asks Donna to travel with him straight away. He kept “just one trip and that’s it”-ing Martha and he didn’t even give martha a TARDIS key until episode 8 of THE SEASON WHERE SHE WAS THE COMPANION. the only GLARING difference between Donna and Martha IS their race. again, the way Martha was written compared to the other companions of that era was very clearly racialised and this includes the Doctor being mad at her for [checks notes] not being Rose which is NOT SOMETHING HE DID WITH ANYONE ELSE. it’s a very clear and obvious to anyone, especially Black folks and poc, that RTD had an unconscious double standard in the way he wrote Black companions and I am so TIRED of people trying to justify the 10th Doctor treating Black people (i.e. Mickey as well) like shit “because of Rose” as if that’s even a fucking decent argument to make.

Jake Lockley is not evil, Jake Lockley is not "just a killer", Jake Lockley is not a bad person

Jake Lockley is a protector in a system that has been severely traumatized as a child and were not protected and taken care of like they should have been.

Yes, he seems more prone to violence than Marc or Steven, but that does not make him an evil, unfeeling person. He's doing what needs to be done to protect them. The times we know for absolute sure that he has shown up (episode 3 in Cairo, episode 6 in the final battle) have been times where the system was about to die. In episode 3, Marc had been knocked down/out by Harrow's followers, and when he comes back front they're on a cliff. It seems like Harrow's followers were about to throw the system off of a cliff, and Jake came front to protect them and keep them alive, and you'll notice that he left the teenager alive, and let Marc back front as soon as the immediate life-threatening danger had passed. In episode 6, Marc was again on the ground, after Harrow threw his worst trauma in his face, with his soul being pulled out of his body, and Layla was surrounded by Harrow's men. Again, Jake fronted to save their life, and then stepped back once the immediate threat to their life was handled

He is not a cold-blooded killer, he's a protector doing his best to keep their system alive when there are people actively trying to fucking murder them

Stop writing him as this cold, hard, unfeeling person. Stop writing him as participating in senseless violence just because he wants to

You are doing a disservice to Jake as a character, and you are waving a bright red flag over your head that tells systems "hey I don't know what I'm talking about but I'm going to perpetuate harmful stereotypes because it's fun for me!"

(like tim should not be robin indefinitely for out-of-universe reasons but in some pockets of fandom there is this weird emphasis on how he needs to Grow Up and Forge An Independent Identity and actually … it’s okay to want to be a support for other people? it’s okay to want to build upon and maintain things that other people have created? and that feels very tim to me)

Mhmmmmmmmmmm that's kinda.. hard to say?? I'm pretty sure there's a precedent for it- If i remember right (which i might not bc it's been ages since i read it tbh) Bart becomes an adult and takes on the flash mantle for a while after he comes back from- Being lost in the speed force, I think??? Again, I don't remember well. But I do remember that he dies (killed by Inertia iirc) and when he's revived he's revived as a teen again. So there's that!

On the other hand- Jon came out as bisexual and has a boyfriend who's also an adult. Of course, him going back to being a kid wouldn't change his sexuality (It could even be sorta cool watching a younger kid navigating sexuality!), but at least so far he and Jay have been the face of the superfam pride stuff, which means that they'd have to do something about Jay if Jon gets aged down for obvious reasons.

Overall- I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon? Jon has his solo superman book going on that I think it's doing well (but I haven't checked so don't take my word for law). It's sad that there's a lack of gen 4 heroes that are... well, teens or kids(or the ones that are aren't really being used), since I really think it's something people enjoy reading. It seems DC wanted to focus on naming the new "successors" of the trinity, which is why they brought in adult characters for the future state stuff? which is still kinda weird since there's a whole lot of superfam adult characters that didn't need to age up Jon. But ANYWAYS, thats what I think!

i want more characters that are just dudes. sure i love the ones with clear drive and complex backstories but like. nothing beats someone who just decided they want to be there anyways, even with no real stake in the game. the growth that comes with realizing that just because it didn’t start out personal doesn’t mean you can walk away… you can’t get that kinda narrative with talent or angst! a win for the bland community
