Here's a painting I made for the ImagineFX art challenge "Mystical Meets Machines".
The theme was too intriguing to pass by - especially after I got the idea of some unicorns grazing by the remnants of an ancient, mechanical dragon. Someone in the past were keen on acquiring the great powers of a dragon for themselves, leading to a bitter end. Now it has rested peacefully for centuries, becoming part of the landscape.
Lots of fun painting this one, especially all that moss!
Photoshop, April 2024. And as always, no AI used.

Some of the beautiful illustrations by S.D. Schindler from Brother Hugo and the Bear by Katy Beebe.
The book is based on two real medieval figures: Hugo, a scribe who added a self-portrait (pictured above) to the end of his copy of Jerome's Commentaries on Isaiah, and a bear who appears in a letter from the abbot of Cluny Abbey to a neighboring abbot asking to borrow a copy of The Letters of St. Augustine, "for a large part of ours has been accidentally eaten by a bear."

The 2pm siesta really needs to be societal thing everywhere.

Hate how modern Christianity downplays the part of the resurrection where the devil gets owned and Christ is victorious and the harrowing of hades and basically I’m requiring that all of you read St. John Chrysostom’s paschal homily right now

They caught me singing at my funeral, and dancing to my dirge,
They caught me heckling my eulogy, and joy-riding my hearse.
They caught me spray-painting my tomb stone and teasing the mortician,
They caught me at all sorts of mischief, in grand Christian tradition.
They scolded me, I put my face into my hands to hide
The smiles and the giggles I couldn’t keep inside.
They didn’t want to hear the joke that I had learned so well,
That death has no dominion: my God has rattled hell.

One time in literature class my professor was talking about myths and Christianity and how in the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice he fails to overcome death but how in the medieval version “Sir Orfeo” the hero succeeds because now this myth was being told in a world where Death was a thing that was overcome and could be, where the King had rescued his bride; and then he started talking about the transition and difference between the pagan world and the advent of Christianity and said “in a world full of stories of gods pursuing people in wrath and lust, can you imagine how it must have been to hear of a God pursuing people in love?” And every few days I still get emotional about that
