Had a great time fumbling around with drawing this evening with @nighttimepatrons. Here's a little drawing of Makalaure in an aesthetic cloth covering being gracefully buffeted by the winds on the cliffs around Tirion (because he's dramatic and he knows he looks good). Here's a little Glorfindel and Elrond, not exactly BFFs from the very start.

They are not fools. Each sees in the other’s eyes the shadows of his own purport, the weight of his presence. Each dances away from the other, calling it courtesy, but meaning pain.

Saturday Snippet

Thanks for the tag @sallysavestheday! Here's a snippet of something I wrote today:

Elrond nodded but did not look at Orfion. He felt he would be scolded for wandering, and moreover he was not certain, now that someone was here to take him back to the camp, that he wanted to return. He did not know what he wanted. He wanted Elros. He wanted his mother. He wanted his father, and he wanted to go back to the Havens and see the Sea. Elrond’s lip trembled, and he sputtered trying to contain his tears — but his uncertainty rattled around between his ribs and against his will his nose and eyes filled with fat drops of water. Orfion dropped to his knees before him, one arm extended, but pausing just before he touched him. Orfion never touched them, and Elrond had always been glad that he did not, for Orfion was dangerous, even if he was kind. But now Elrond needed to be touched, he needed to be protected. He threw himself into the crook of Orfion’s outstretched arm, and slowly it wrapped around him.

Yes! I am so happy that I managed to add 1300 words to Chapter 5 of And Love Grew today, and I even enjoyed myself. Let this snippet sharing not jinx my motivation 🙏.

Requested because it is a beautiful moment in the Tolkien story, and because Faramir got such short shrift in the otherwise terrific Lord Of the Rings trilogy of films, here’s Faramir of Gondor and Éowyn of Rohan in the garden of The Houses of Healing at the moment the eagle brings news of the downfall of Sauron. In triptych fashion, we see echoes of their previous lives: Faramir as a Ranger in Ithilien on the left side, bow bent, and, on the right, Éowyn dons her male warrior disguise beneath the Dimholt before riding to brave deeds and sacrifice on the Pelennor Fields.
