#THIS is it. #raylan taking the gun from loretta; mags holding raylan's hand as she dies #both of them gestures towards ending or at least pausing the cycles of violence that are so endemic to the world of the show #and those gestures are tragic in their own right #walt mccready is still dead and mags kills herself to keep from going to prison and the grace raylan is able to channel to stop loretta and #himself with dickie in reckoning is short-lived #but it all still matters. #it all still matters! #justified

#this scene is so fucking important #and i am obsessed in particular this go-around with the way raylan's invocation of her father's memory manages to transcend cliche #partly because raylan uses it so sincerely and entirely because it is such a direct parallel of the way that helen's memory stops raylan #from killing dickie in the previous episode #raylan is turning around and using that same grace to stop loretta from killing mags #and so of course he's using the same methods #and while this would be meaningful in any context it is especially meaningful given the ways that raylan and loretta are paralleled and the #ways that loretta represents in some ways a mirror of raylan's younger self #which then ties around again to raylan's invocation of his past in his speech to dickie (''criminal for a father; working a deep mine #thinking what could come along and save me? helen did.'') #drives me fucking insane. #justified
