The 80’s anime television series based on the Buichi Terasawa manga was directed by influential anime director Osamu Desaki. One of his trademark techniques was the use of pastel freeze frames.Desaki called this technique “postcard memories”. They feature a process whereby the screen fades into a detailed “painting” of the simpler original animation.
