Okay progress update! I'm pretty much finished with the instrumental for my song "You with her". I still need to get a take of the vocals where I sing the rights notes relatively in tune though 😂😂 I'm not a singer

It's been wild to work on it, I didn't record anything for the instrumental but just using the samples in the audio library was a new experience! I've never thought a lot about the production side of making songs and wow is there a lot to learn!

I'm also becoming increasingly worried that I've accidentally copied something, as the chords and melodies are really basic 😬

I'm also thinking about making a lyric video for it?? Possibly with pics and clips of them from the show? That's something I've never done before, which would certainly fit the theme here..

I don't know if I love or hate the creative bursts that sometimes happen. The ones where you just want to make stuff and are unable to decide on how or what.

Like do I want to play Schumann on clarinet or write a fluffy one shot? How about working on a new song or creating lesson plans? What if I want to play the ukulele badly and screech some Taylor Swift song? Maybe I want to learn how to play harmonica? Write poetry? Paint an abstract picture about this feeling?

And then you just bounce around different things and search for the thing that will fulfill the urge. And just get tired.

But if you find the thing you want to do it can be magic.

The first thing I do when I’m writing fanfiction.

I obviously am not a songwriter or artist but it’s fascinating to me how creating art is a cathartic process for confessional songwriters like Taylor. I would love to hear from her on is the contrast between only writing/making the song vs releasing it…. and if, over time, she’s maybe realized that the publication of the song is just as necessary as the writing phase for true healing. If true, this would explain why she needed not to just write ttpd, but also had share it with the world. Consequences be dammed.

The process of catharsis being:

First you write the song and you get all your feelings out and get the emotional release.

Step two, you share it with people, kind of like letting a balloon go up in the sky or a leaf float down a river. You send it off to have its own life. This part is a physical release.

Third step is people hear it and say “me too” and it’s validating and the writer and listener both feel seen. This is the (shared) release of the fear and self pity it was just you… and you have a connection and feel less alone. And after this step is when the true healing, and your emotional recovery begins and you can start to rejuvenate and recover.

She’s talked about this some on stage but I feel like it’s probably more complex than what I wrote and would be intrigued to hear how she views it

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful
