1. I went to the state level in the Invention Convention competition when I was 8. I'm still a tinkerer and problem solver for certain.

2. (I need a restock) but all last year I carried around Mario-themed bandaids around to give to people at school and I got known for having "the good stuff."

[spoilers] yes lisa frankenstein is a wonderful, campy, cute good-fo-her adaptation for all the austen/shelley/bronte-loving weird girlies but what I keep thinking about is how it's also a meditation on how society doesn't want/ doesn't want to deal with female trauma (and weird girls). the way lisa's (enfuriatingly) deabeat dad barely looks at lisa but embraces taffy (who is 'successfully' a girl: happy, pretty, and not posing problems for anyone), the way those neighbours literally ignore lisa as she is chased by an intruder (who is literally a parallel to the axe murderer that killed her mom) - lisa's trauma is seen as some kind of wilful refusal to fit into the status quo and even makes her the target of further (gleeful) abuse by her stepmom (who threatens to literally lock her away for being 'weird'). and it's not just a lisa thing; the scene that struck me was taffy, covered in blood, crying, traumatised, and that stranger who looks and then ignores her. taffy as a popular girl and cheerleader and daddy's darling is always looked at favourably, alsways an object of positive attention-- right up until she has a problem. anyway and then something something about lisa finding companionship in another other and her choosing (un)death as a radical escape from and rejection of this status quo that cannot/ doesn't want to accomodate her and many more thoughts but that's all for now thank you

God I want Normal and Scary to have the friendship in spite of Hermie that Whizzer and Trina should've had in spite of Marvin. The bond of two people fucked over by the same mediocre guy is one of my fav tropes and I can't be denied it again pls. (I know they're already very much friends, but I wish Scary had the space with Norm to tell him how she felt about Hermie. They could ride through the ocean of grief together)

Ughhh listening to Sophomore Slump and the episode about its making has made this episode so much sadder. I gotta listen through the whole season and pay more attention to Scary's behavior. "Maybe somebody else should kiss him" 😫 and how excited she sounded when he "came back." Everyone in this girl's life dies before she's ready to be real with them. She doesn't wanna pass up the second chance. But also every time she sees them again, it seems there's always someone who knew them better or made it clearer how they felt about them. So she gets the immediate feedback that it's not even worth coming out of her shell at that point. I'm crazy about her.

I hate that it's now a fact that [a] Willy Stampler and Normal have kissed. Like if I hadn't heard the newest episode and someone just said that I would have a few new reasons to wanna rend Willy limb from limb. A sad day for oakworthy nation 🫡😔

So this comparison is actually really interesting considering the story behind this photo.

This sailor didn't actually know this woman, in the excitement of the war being over he kissed her because she reminded him of the nurses who he had seen helping other soldiers in the war. But actually, she wasn't a hospital nurse, she was a dental assistant.

Willy Scampler isn't the real Hermie. But he sure as hell reminds Norm of the real Hermie. Scampler immediately kissed Normal upon being put into existence based on re-created memories.

The reason Lisa Frankenstein is so relatable and effective is that it shows a perfect display of otherness and the joy found in being truly seen and understood without being too on the nose about real struggles people who are othered have to deal with. Like I ached as an autistic trans man fully understanding the pain of not being appreciated by the general populous in high school and how beautiful I felt meeting the first person to know me like they know themselves. But too often movies that try to depict accurate experiences for minorities fall into the pit of reflecting back at audiences the trauma they are constantly on alert to in their everyday lives. But we all deserve fantasy and a chance to escape that while our identities can hold space, and I feel this movie did that very well in that they were relatable and human but also (spoilers) just fucking killing people. Like it traversed the line of being a movie about otherness and the beauty of finding those who we can belong with while also having a core thing that unites them be something most audience members can't relate to. I was able to engage with the movie deeper instead of my attention being targeted back at our, at times shitty, reality.
