The Blue World

The blue world. That's what she had referred to it as. One would think she would refer to it as a ceiling, but that was silly. She could always reach the ceiling. Fingertips briefly making contact with the cool smooth surface. This was oh so different. A place distant, unattainable, and yet all encompassing. It reached farther than her eyes could perceive. Something so expansive and vast, but oh so unremarkable to those who witnessed it everyday.

Sometimes, when sitting on the edge of the earth, legs dangling against the dried out terracotta walls that came piercing from the earth, she took a moment to ponder. It's a passing thought, if the outlying mountains in the distant could touch what she cannot. Grains of sand so easily slip through the divots between each finger. This was something... feasible. Comprehendible. Touchable. The sand of the earth was hot, coarse, and dry. It was felt. Be it between her toes or behind her ears after a sandstorm, it was preset.

The world above was not.

Should she be jealous of the landscape? The crumbling tower that rested above the town, held together by drying moss and dehydrated vines. They were inanimate things that seemed closed towards the sky then she could ever be. The desert heated sun was beaming down on her shoulder, the flimsy hat upon her head doing nothing to shield her from the inevitable heat stroke that came after these long, listless days of freedom. The only thing the scalding heat could do was send her farther into delirium. A dull thud echoed around the empty space, the sound coming from her body thrusting itself backwards still her back met the smooth rock she'd perched herself upon. It was here, in these moments, she could feel a brief respite. The blue world above her, oh how she wanted to comprehend it. For a long time it was never real to her. In fact the very first time she found herself beneath it, there was no blue, only darkness and speckles of glowing orbs that pierced the dark veil that had fallen. It almost looked like the giant maw of a beast, the mountains becoming its teeth, itching to clamp down and close her off from freedom once again. Fortunately that had not been the case. And right now she was here. Lazing in the blazing sun and on the scorching rocks, hand inching up without any real thought. Perhaps it would be more useful to use such a hand to block out the bright rays of the sky. Instead her fingers spread wide, reaching as far as they could until the dull pain of over stretching your arm drilled it ways into her mind, though it did nothing to piece her current thoughts from bumbling around.

Is it reachable?

Sometimes it felt like. When her hand covered the sun. If she closed the outstretched digits right now it would almost be like the skies infinite light bulb would be settled in her hand.

She tried, a wry smile curling onto her face once she realized once again that her hand was empty. Before she was underneath the blue world, she was scared of it. Worried that if caught by the vastness the ground below her would fall away, and she would fall upwards into the abyss. That was no longer a frightful thought. After all, the only thing she wanted was to be in a place where she could always see it. Where it could always see her. A witness to her small little existence in this vast, never ending, expansive blue world.

Arvio x "Builder" Oh my sweet bb Marigold who probably has a million siblings. She loves her Papa and Mama, but the fact she has her Mama's eyes scares her a lil. THEY GLOW IN THE DARK??
