Got to thinking about Ed keeping Jim on as part of his crew, especially given his emotional state. “I’ve had my eye on you”. He knows Jim is the only one Stede’s crew who has any practical skill in violence and killing, someone with stealth and skills at getting into places unseen. And he’s back in that rut “treading water, waiting to drown”, the place where “I haven’t tried dying yet. Maybe I should give that a go”, the place where “the only way out is death”.

“Technically, I didn’t kill those people”, Ed said about starting a fire which killed a lot of people. Technically, it isn’t killing yourself if you provoke the dangerously-skilled professional assassin by abducting them by force and leaving the love of their life and their friends to die a slow drawn-out death.

Give me Jim going after Ed and then realising it’ll hurt him more if they leave him alive to suffer. Give me an Ed unarmed and vulnerable and staring up at them, baring his throat, waiting for it, and Jim realising he wants that and going “Nah, man, fuck you. I’m not your fucking weapon”. Give me Jim, the kid raised to be a killing machine, refusing to be the very thing Ed kept them around for.

“I’m trying to put the revenge part behind me”.

(I know, I know, probably a bit bleak for the show, but I like some tasty angst)

The next chapter of Boy With A Broken Soul is about 1 paragraph away from being finished. I was hoping to post it last week but I’ve been so distracted with packing (I’m moving this weekend! Yay!) that I just haven’t had the time. It will be up by next weekend though.

I have some amazing news! I was able to recover all of my files from that flash drive! 

Update: Soooo… today I accidentally snapped my USB drive in half. You know. Just the one with all of my fic stuff saved on it. 

Sooooo… yeah. All the story outlines I had and all the scenes from future chapters I had already written, that’s all gone now apparently. I’m going to a computer repair shop this week to see if I can recover any of the files from the drive (which also contains a shit ton of resume work and photos/documents for my portfolio), so HOPEFULLY all that work I’ve already done on my story stuff won’t be lost forever, but… it might be. 

If it is, I’m still going to finish Boy With A Broken Soul, but it will probably take a lot longer than initially planned. 

I probably won’t post anything else from my Transformations/Rules universe, because most of that was already done, but it’s been so long that I’ve worked on it that I won’t be able to remember anything without the outline. So… yeah, that’s dead in the water without those files. 

I did have one of my other fics open when the USB broke though, so I was able to save that to my computer directly. Depending on how the repair goes, I may just jump into the new fic instead this week. 

But right now I’m just pissed about the flash drive, so I’m going to de-stress by avoiding all technology and drinking heavily.
