What’s the story behind getting the cats Murderface and Spot? Did Atsushi and Akutagawa cave after the boys begged them enough?

No one's entirely sure because everyone has a different story as to how the cats came into their lives and where they came from.

Atsushi remembers picking up Murderface when the kids were toddlers, bringing him in from the rain. A few days later Spot showed up, and the two cats acted like they were the best of friends. Akutagawa had to be convinced that this was a good idea, but the fact that both the kids started absolutely wailing and sobbing the second he mentioned removing them from the house closed the matter.

Akutagawa remembers Acchan proudly carrying home Murderface and Spot following Ryuu-chan, who was giving him treats to keep the cat's interest. Acchan was a very funny sight to behold because at that age Murderface was only slightly smaller than he was. Atsushi came home, saw the cats and fell in love. There was no talk of taking them to the pound.

Ryuu-chan and Acchan will say that Grandfather Cat brought them by, giving the cats strict instructions to watch over the kids as they grew. And that he sometimes stops by to get reports from the cats and to get ear scritches from Ryuu-chan, because he gives the best ones.

would akutagawa be stand-offish about dazai and the kids? i don't think he'd be too fond of his abuser being around them.

Akutagawa has a lot to unpack about Dazai. However, people can grow and change and while Dazai has not apologized to Akutagawa directly in as many words, Akutagawa has found peace in his new family life.

He trusts Atsushi's judgment, and Atsushi has no qualms about the kids being around Dazai, so that's that to him.

(If he ever suspects Dazai of inflicting harm on the kids, he wouldn't have to worry about dealing with it himself because Atsushi would get there first.)

In the way that all cats sometimes fight in which there might be some bapping with paws and chasing around the house; but for the most part the cats are very gentle with the kids.

They have their orders. :)

what is atsushi and akutagawa’s opinion on screen time for the kids? if they’re allowed it is it just a tv sort of situation or have they fell into ipad baby territory lol

Fortunately for them both, the kids are far too active to be sucked down the iPad baby hole. Granted, they're starting to actually get into video games, but Acchan is such a rambunctious ball of energy that it's never been a worry or something they even have to think about.

Now the other side of the coin is that the boys will a) stay up far too late fiddling on the tablets/reading/playing games under the covers of their beds, or wake up super early to watch television unsupervised. It truly isn't a Sunday morning if Atsushi isn't woken up at ass early o'clock by the television being up slightly too loud.

(Akutagawa has learned to sleep through it.)
