Put before yet another terror unleashed from the deepest pits of hell, the silver-haired slacker is all confidence and swagger. Unaffected by the Lord of Terror’s attempts to belittle him, Dante fires back with hearty laughter -- which sounded genuine in its composition -- effortlessly demonstrating how it should be done when one’s intent is to mock their foe.

“You sure are a talker, I’ll grant ya that much!” Smiling crookedly, the half-breed takes a step forward, followed by another as he raises up hands covered in fingerless leather gloves. “Tell me, do you share your material with other demons in hell? ‘Cuz I’m fairly certain I heard my old man make better threats at me than the same old ‘I’ll destroy the world!!!’ routine.”

Not quite sure how that particular barb would land, Dante shakes his head, then acquires a more battle-ready pose. Feet sliding apart, he lowers his hands, but keeps an arm extended outwards, beginning to focus. With a bit of effort, he willed into being his sword, which was in itself a two-handed number comprised of a dark substance resembling solidified lava. 

Such preemptive measures were soon to be rewarded as, before he could get another word in edgewise, he is set upon by the Prime Evil. A thought is given to standing his ground, but it is quickly quashed, given their vast difference in height. As a result, dodging manoeuvres are instead favoured, with the red-clad slacker, veering clear of the other’s charging path by a range of several metres. 

Rather than wait to be charged at again, Dante pivots on heel, then darts straight at Diablo from behind, the point of his sword brought to the same height as his face. Once close enough, Dante whips out his sword-wielding arm and slashes wildly at the other, no particular target set in mind.

“Come one Verge! Let’s spar!” “Can’t you see I’m busy right now? Some other time, Dante.” “ You’ve had your nose in that book for hours! What’s so great about it, huh?” “Hey! What are you–Cut it out!”

I love that the manga gave us this♥We get to see Vergil’s memories through V when he finds the book, and upon seeing, we get this flashback from the twins’ childhood. I think this might be from when Vergil just acquired the book of poems, so of course, he was busy indulging himself with for a while. Perhaps the brothers bickered because, I dunno, maybe Dante wanted to take his book away because Vergil had been spending a lot of time reading, so Dante just pulls a typical move a kid his age would do, so he could get his attention.
