Dubiously on time for an old year's art summary!

I decided to do two mostly because it felt unfair to July and August to exclude the digital pieces. I have almost one digital piece for every traditional piece in each month, so it worked out nicely!

Inktober is an outlier and should not be counted. I also ended up working on N.K.G. all through November, so those two months are traditional across the board.

Inktober Day 31: Fire

IT IS FINISHED

THE END HAS COME

MY HOMAGE TO THE KING IS COMPLETE

i finished this on November 21. It took me three weeks. three. weeks. and it was worth every minute. i wish i'd recorded the hours. unfortunately my ability to remember to start a timer was as good as my ability to remember to post this.

Spreading it out over the course of a few weeks was pretty great, though. I picked stippling because I knew that it would offer better gradient control (and oh BOY did that pay off); it's also very physically taxing, normally, but my wrist is fine. Probably. people don't ever get spinal or joint problems from long-term poor care and maintenence right

things that were last-minute additions not included in the sketch: the background veins/curtains, the stitches, the audience, the literal actual fire. how much did i mean to add but forgot, and how much did i just straight-up add afterwards? the world may never know, because i sure don't!

Inktober Day 30: Rush

I'm very disappointed that I didn't get to draw the spooky circus man for Halloween. I did, however, get to draw the Hallowed Siblings for it.

I'd always wanted to do either Hornet or Pure Vessel's charge for Rush. I ended up using Hornet's diagonal dive animation, because I liked this angle better.

Compared to some of my other HK pieces from Inktober, this is relatively simple; this is more dynamic and has more movement, but has less detail.

I loved drawing the cloaks in this. Hornet's was fun and I did it pretty well before overshading in the left fold. The Knight's Monarch Wings cloak was extremely fun to draw, too. I'd never noticed that using Monarch Wings made the edges of your cloak glow to match the animation. Coloring the gradient and drawing in the wing veins was very fun.

I used similar motion lines for Hornet as I did with Sans in Day 4? Way back when. Hornet's are more fluid and natural, though, whereas Sans' are stiff and and straight. It wasn't intentional, but it fits the games' respective artstyle so I like that. Happy accidents!

[Update: I have decided to do the spooky circus man with stippling because I'll get a better gradient for the fire that way. As many people have said to me thus far: "oh you're gonna die". As I like to say: this-is-fine.png]

Linktober Day 29: Water

Well. That's all the LU boys!

I had planned to do a raft with these two, but also wanted to do Beast more than I needed River. Linktober's Water was a very convenient solution haha

These two mark the last of the nine heroes, even if not everyone came in Jojo's design (which I regret. I love Sky's design especially and I'm mad that I didn't do something nicer for him.).

Originally, I wanted Wind to be in the water, using the raft as a float and kicking so they could go faster. I couldn't figure out how to fit them both on Hyrule's tiny little raft. I think I actually like this posing better, though, so all's well that ends well. Especially since this lets us see everyone's faces.

Inktober Day 28: Sparkle

Linktober is Sparkle for the 28th, too! I don't know if that was intentional, but it certainly convinced me to do something about it. Sparkling brings to mind (for me) Undertale and Deltarune's save points.

The floor took abysmally long. It seems simple enough, but getting the black to line up with the white properly, getting the inner squares straight, and getting the corners nice and sharp was weirdly hard.

I picked the Last Corridor because I liked the scenery and it was easy to find a ref. I mildly regret it. Although easy in digital pixels from a front view, I now know that checkerboards are very difficult hard to get square. At least making the floor reflective at the end was satisfying.

Inktober Day 27: Beast

I debated between doing Hollow Knight or The Owl House for this prompt, and decided that the latter deserved more art after I'd done so much with the former.

This was a surprisingly fast piece. I've managed to actually get multiple works done per day recently, which is great. Unfortunately, I can't keep up with that speed with my posting, and I also didn't finish the 31st anyway (sadness.).

Skytober Day 26: Krill

I've had this screenshot for some time, and I've actually done a couple doodles of it. I've never done anything of this scale, though. I've never actually looked closely at krill, either. I didn't realize all the little thorns on its legs is what made it so eldritch.

Tons of fun drawing this; getting the depth of the pipe opening and the straight stone slabs, getting the lighting from the skykid right, getting the krill done beautifully. This didn't take as long as some of my big Hollow Knight stuff, but I'm really proud of it.

LUtober Day 25: Forest

Man, I'm really behind. All these big pieces are great but they're impossible to pull off on time. At least I'm done with the Hollow Knight scenes for now.

I'm trying to get every LU Link into a piece at least once, in some form. This is more difficult than I thought it would be. I managed, after some time finagling and brainstorming, and here's one product: the Sacred Grove from Twilight Princess!

Hearing Saria's Song here was really nostalgic. The background music is creepy overall, but I won't lie that it grew on me. It was definitely a fun area to go through, and I enjoyed "playing" with the Skull Kid... even if the puppets were terrifying the first few mobs.

Inktober Day 24: Scratchy

Massive Hollow Knight piece #3, with a streak of 2! This one does not have a prompt with the correct day.

On the one hand, I want to delay posting this because I want to see the separate note count activity peaks for the Radiance art and this one. (Thank you to everyone who left notes on any of my art! It really means a lot to me!!) One the other hand, I'm already three days late...

I didn't quite achieve the effect I wanted here; the real Knight isn't the focus of attention because I didn't darken the rest of the piece enough. It was worth it to get all the Deepnest details in, though. It was tons of fun drawing this out as a 3D space!

I also ran a second pen out of ink. Incidentally, the first one died during my Pure Vessel piece.

Inktober Day 23: Celestial

Got a couple massive Hollow Knight works firing up. Here's the first, which has a prompt for the correct day!

I had fun experimenting with scumbling, which is apparently an actual technical term for scribble shading.

This piece took me an entire day longer than I expected. "I've only got the tentacle wings left it'll be fine" News flash: it was not.

Gratuitous use of white paint pen is always the answer.

Inktober Day 22? Shallow

As mentioned: oops, wrong order. Shallow is 24. And I did it for the 22nd. I'll be doing Scratchy for 24th instead, but still. Rough.

The Water Temple was much better set up on the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time, or so I hear. I never played the original edition because I never owned an N64.

I didn't intentionally make this tiny, but it turned out that way, and I'm glad for it. Shadow Link's arena in OoT feels huge and empty and makes you feel so tiny. It fits the massive blank page with nothing but Link, a tree, and a reflection.

Inktober Day 21: Chains

Left my inks at home, fell even FURTHER behind. Haven't even started Day 24, accidentally did 24 for 22, haven't finished 23, and am only now posting 21. Real dumpster fire. It's been busy.

II've wanted to do this from the instant I saw the prompt for "chains". I'm regretting it because I could have done Aurora Webcomic Shrike or even the Hollow Knight, but I did Legend for Ring so it's too late now.

I'm trying to get each of the 9 Links into Inktober one way or another, and since the Hero of Warriors is the one saying this quote, it felt fitting. There's something to be said that he considers a wedding ring a "shackle", albeit a pretty one. Although this scene was pretty early on so his characterization might not have been too solid by then (comic is "powerful rings" in the archive).

Inktober Day 20: Frost

Unfortunately, I have lost my streak in spirit as well 😔. I knew the weekend would be busy but I did not anticipate Friday sapping the life out of me also. Probably won't be posting the next few for a hot second either. I had a lot of trouble with 20 and brainstorming for 21 and 22 so the art braincell has retired for a bit.

I don’t have many Owl House ideas, so I really enjoyed doing this prompt.

LUtober Day 19: Lucky

I find it interesting that so many Zelda games have the treasure chest game. Otherwise known as gambling.

I picked out Minish Cap for this because Jojo actually has an MC design for Four! I like her doodle of him, it's very cute. (Doodles pt.10 on the archive list, for reference.)

MC's treasure game works by doubling your initial pay until you lose your 50/50 and get a skull instead of a rupee, i.e. lose everything.

I'm not really into the LoZ treasure games, personally. I'm not sure that anyone does? There are definitely better ways to farm rupees.

LUtober Day 18: Thrill

Skyward Sword, like many other Legend of Zelda games, has some very fun things you can do with minecarts. The Rickety Coaster is one of my favorite minigames. A roller coaster is rather fitting for a "thrill", isn't it?

Inktober Day 16: Angel

Welcome to a cyber's world?

I think I'm starting to show a tiny bit of bias towards perspective shots. I don't even know where that CAME from—I never did anything aside from some attempted human foreshortening. Where did the landscapes come from.

I did a poll on dumpster and "yes" won by a landslide, by the way.
