Love For Love's Sake - Ep 1-4

I haven't written anything about Love For Love's Sake yet, which is unusual for me, because I'm always first to express my excitement on my blog 😀

And yes, I am absolutely delighted with this series. I will not list everything why I like LFLS (and there is a lot of it), I will only write about two things that caught my eye in particular:

how likeable they are. Despite the flood of BL series, productions about characters that I honestly LIKE are not that common. And here, they're all so interesting, there's so much going on about them and they're all likeable. I sincerely support them and want the best for them

how the series portrays Cha Yeo Woon's character falling in love. I'm floored at how well this is shown. It's all here: infatuation, jealousy, fondness, thinking about kisses, embarrassment, loss and confusion with his feelings, little heartbreaks, possessiveness (when he wants to be with his crush all the time and dissatisfaction when someone tries to take his time), lips full of smiles and being on cloud nine when his crush gives him all the attention and is nice 🥺 AGAIN, this is not often shown in such a complete and wholesome way.

(what also deserves a separate mention is how Chun Sang Won is shown in his version of falling in love, his self-confidence, the way he flirts, I also liked it very much)

It's all so sweet and lovely and this show has done so many scenes and moments that are just so GOOD. For example, when Tae Myung Ha drags Chun Sang Won after his fight with Cha Yeo Woon and Yae Won takes an involuntary step towards him, as if he doesn't want his crush to go away with his "rival" and leave him behind.

I didn't think he was all that interesting when I first saw him.

The fact that he is apparently my favorite was not known to me until the creation of this list, just now.

But maybe that's not such a surprise because he's actually got a lot in common with Rire (despite being a fallen angel rather than a demon).

Like Rire, he seems to enjoy the finer things, he's jaded, and more importantly: you have to keep his interest, and he gets bored easily.

Unlike Rire, he's pretty serious by nature (therefore more difficult to entertain and less inclined to put up with 'misbehavior'), practically forlorn even.

Also unlike Rire, though, I think he's more able/likely to become truly fond of someone. He's downright soft once you win him over.

Wings pretty. Hair nice.

I'm also a sucker for the whole 'call me anytime you need help, I'll swoop in and defend you' kind of thing 🥰

Like a brother to me wanna take him out for sweets and also to therapy. I just want nice things for him he's such a good boy and he's struggling so hard. I also get that he's got something to prove to himself as much as too the people around him like I feel that. Plus okay purple and gold color palette??? Letrerman jacket?? Soft baby smile when his guard is down? Peak character design baby! In other news I was gonna put the dynamic one down because he's got so. Many interesting groupings (his role as Aki's guiding light, how he fits in within the Hudosakisaka family, o-high shenanigans, his whole deal with Tenma, HIS WHOLE DEAL WITH BANRI). But ultimately he's so interesting on his own it felt unfair to mark that one.

Look the man thought KIDNAPPED THE MC was a valid expression of grief. Bastard cabbage energy. Horrible person (affectionate), if he were real id marry him (derogatory). Chikagr is fascinating to me because his introduction is where A3!'s plot really begins to go off the rails, but it's somehow still believable??? Like don't get me wrong this man is unhinged but he loves his family so much???? And once he realizes there's people he can count on he channels all that energy into keeping them safe and happy and I can vibe with that. But also please put him under a microscope for my personal entertainment.

Ahh our resident old man jfc.. I know this doesn't look like a lot on the card but honestly most my thoughts towards him don't really fit neatly into these categories. I LOVE how he started as an antagonist and genuinely threatening one in the first half of act one, and how he didn't lose that edge after joining the Mankai troupe. Like everything that made him formidable is still there, but now you get to see him be soft and dorky and find a proper channel for his regrets 🥺

I will say that while I like him on his own I like him SO much better when playing off other characters, especially since he personally knew the OG Mankai members. Of course there's his relationship to Sakoda, Azami, and the Ginsenkai group, but he also wears the hat of semi-reluctant troupe dad, and his whole deal with Izumi is so funny it's almost painful. But I think my favorite dynamic is hearing Yuzo and the other old troupe members call this grumpy 30 year old team dad with the heart of an octogenarian "kid" 🤣.

Despite all this I really admire Sakyo's role in supporting Izumi in her goal, even when he had to be the bad guy in the scenario. He's also very interesting to me because he embodies a very clear distinction between regretting your past and being ashamed of it, which is a journey he himself is on through the course of the game.

I did see spoilers for this, and it’s true that at least 3 people have told Buck “you died,” but Buck hasn’t said it out loud himself. Yeah, he’s not fully processed it yet, hence I think the death doula in an upcoming episode who will probably help him with that.

Loved the conversation between Pepa and Eddie. Eddie at least admitting he doesn’t want to be alone. Now the thing is is for Eddie to realize that he’s not alone. He’s with Buck a lot, which… I’m so curious how often he mentions he is with Buck? Like, Eddie wouldn’t hide that he spends time with Buck and yet? Somehow Pepa at least seems to think Eddie only has Chris, when Eddie already has a partner in Buck.

Maddie and Chimney singing to Jee was so sweet. 🥺

So I definitely need more scenes/episodes with Ravi and Chimney. I really enjoyed this pairing/dynamic.

So Novak may be new at dispatch? That was a good call from Chimney, and just great leadership, showing Novak he can still help people.

If anyone is saying this was a bad episode, well they’re wrong. This was a great episode! I think it was well balanced in everything. *ticks off fingers* We got: - Chimney processing/working on his grief around Kevin, and understanding he can be a leader. - Ravi is coming back! - Eddie is at least admitting that he doesn’t want to be alone (which helps him get closer to being with Buck, people need to chill). - Hen working on how to deal with Nathaniel in her family's life, with some guidance from Athena.  - Some good fire fam scenes.
