He wasn't listening to the actual words he was saying, as much as the way his voice sounded. Once the call ended he turned toward him, "Why do you sound so familiar?" he asked, not recognizing his face. They must run in different circles.

It’s always disconcerting, how faces can change over time. And even moreso, how they can stay the same. Julian hadn’t strayed too far away from his initial All-American smile, that Mexican-bound beauty, and features that could stamp cash in future decades to come. Even the leftover youth can still be seen there, between the lines that had begun to shape a now fifty-two-year-old face. All his greying is reserved to just stubble, which naturally, is never sported by a politician like him. 

The changes on Zekai are far more drastic. A young soldier to grown man; battered and experienced at that. 

“I’m so glad you could make it,” Julian is quick to meet him at the door, to offer Zekai a hand to shake. “When they told me the names on the short-list, I couldn’t believe it. How have you been? Please— have a seat.”

Been trying to develop Zekai more so he's more than just milk and cheese lover. Mostly I've decided he's a passionate storyteller. He likes to come up with very tall tales and see how far he can push someones ability to believe him. He's also one to keep a bit running as long as possible if only to annoy someone. Like, he's the guy who will continuously get something wrong on purpose to make the expert on the thing mad.

He's also not much of a fighter. Out of Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn he usually is Flight or Fawn. He tries to avoid physical fighting because he's not exactly good - don't even try to put a weapon in those clumsy paws either. This guy, if doing any combat, is doing it hand to hand. I think if he were to get into a fight though he wouldn't use his claws until he felt he was in genuine danger in which they'd come out on reflex. When threatened he will hiss and his fur will puff up like an actual cat. he will even send warning bats with his paws for people to back off like a cat.

His cat instinct causes him to knock things off tables. Yes he has broken expensive vases doing this. He has yet o face consequences for his actions or pay off any of them lol. Also just like a cat he will lay down and ask for belly rubs only to attack ur hands. another cat instinct he got was chattering at bird and such.

The Main Cast

Image-heavy, but here's the main cast.

Every character has two pictures and a bit of information on how they're connected to the others.

Nagare - Vulpes

An upbeat, always-looking-on-the-bright-side type of girl. She prides herself on her skill with Magic-based attacks, enhanced by her Keyblade of choice and furthered by how she fills for the non-magic specialties on its carousel. The older of two by only a little over a year, her determination to take care of her much weaker brother was found to be endearing. As such, Ava took Nagare into her Union with no hesitation when the young wielder was uncertain as to where she wanted to go. After realizing the nature of her new Union, Nagare took it upon herself to make friends within a larger party. Those who had much and more to share. Each week, she and her friends take a fair amount of supplies across the border as part of a relay. Ava, aware of this and in full support of such endeavors, blessed her with the tail of a fox. This marked her permanently as a Guardian of the borders, preventing the patrolling foxes from attacking her group, so long as she was with them. Her connection to Eileen is fairly standard. They have similar personalities, so they gravitated towards one another at first meeting. Ultimately, it was Eileen who told her she could sneak supplies across the borders- and who told her to seek Zekai's help in such endeavors. She's Inokosu's older sister, a friend of Eileen, and in cahoots with Zekai. She and Ryunami are neutral towards one another. She's tolerant of Emrys, and is disliked by Shizuko.

Zekai - Unicornis

An upstanding member of Unicornis and Eileen's long-term partner, Zekai leads his own party of five in a way that may be seen as suspicious. They play middle-man to deliver food and supplies from Nagare to Inokosu, a task which Nagare would perform herself if she could. In reality, he and his party are ignored by Ira since they collect their overall Lux quota- daily, weekly, monthly, and beyond. But they still have to watch out, as crossing borders is against the rules. He's been with Eileen for three years now, much to Shizuko's chagrin. Despite his affections for the younger of the sisters, the older continues to despise him. He's still working to earn her trust, but he's not terribly hopeful. Zekai is protective, and cares deeply for his friends. Though it's still up in the air as to whether or not they care as much for him. What is for sure is that he makes sure to keep Eileen safe after her unfortunate 'end,' being put in charge of her Heart's keeping. He never lets what remains of her leave his person. He's one of Nagare's closest friends, and Inokosu's most trusted ally. Though he's in a long-term committed relationship with Eileen, Shizuko still despises him. Ryunami has a slightly negative opinion of him, and Emrys is mostly indifferent.

Inokosu - Ursus

Inokosu is the younger sibling between himself and Nagare, but not by much. As a member of the Ursus Union, he bears a mark on his skin to prove where he lives- the Mark of the Bear, tucked beneath his wristband. He's not terribly strong, but does his best to lead his party anyway. He's used to splitting resources, and happens to be fairly good at making things last. Despite acting like he has no useful talents, he's an excellent cook, and can easily split a meal for two into a meal for six while still making sure everyone is satisfied. He claims this is just a necessary skill. Despite everything, he does find himself wanting to return to his party. To make sure they're all okay, to let them know he's alright, and mostly to let them know what he's found out about the disappearances from their Union. He's Nagare's younger brother, and would trust Zekai with his life. Eileen taught him most of what he knows now, and he feels like he owes her for that.

Ryunami - Leopardos

Ryunami is the overall equivalent to the "Player" in this story, being the character I've bad the longest. She's a member of the Leopardos union, having been recruited early due to a high skill balance between Light and Dark, Strength and Magic. After her recruitment, she became one of the Union's more powerful wielders, often bringing her party to the top 500 for a given week. Ryunami doesn't like being alone. She bounced from party to party for the first few weeks in her Union, but none of them really suited her. When Eileen introduced her to Phantom, Maastie, Menx, and Prince, she knew she was where she belonged. They took her in, gave her a home. She owes them. Despite her loyalty to her party and Union, she still worries about Shizuko to the point of obsession. They knew each other before they were brought into Unions, but fell out of touch after an incident five years ago. She's close with Eileen, and was once Shizuko's best friend, though that connection is rocky at best now.

Shizuko - Anguis

Five years ago, someone approached a young Shizuko with the promise of adventure. They lead her to the forest, where she happened to bring her friend, Ryunami. The pair were set upon by a beast, and while Ryunami escaped mostly unharmed, Shizuko was not quite so lucky. She left the situation with many things. Amber eyes, numerous scars, the Mark of the Lupulelli, and perhaps most importantly, her Keyblade. As the only one of the main cast to not get a proper bequeathment, Shizuko is seen as an outlier in some regards. As Eileen's older twin sister, people often comment on how different they are. Shizuko is cold, calculating, and certainly not as friendly as her sister in any capacity. Though closed-off, she is still welcoming and kind towards those she trusts. An excessive influx of Darkness brought Invi's attention to her, and they are fairly close now. Her cloak and eyepatch were a gift from her Foreteller, and she's often brought in to make sure her Darkness isn't at risk of corrupting her. She does often find herself wondering about people she once interacted with, though. Wondering if they were real, or if she had perhaps just… dreamed them all up.

Eileen - Traveler

The younger twin between herself and Shizuko, Eileen doesn't stay in one Union for more than a week at a time. She bounces around often, spending most of her time in Unicornis, Leopardos, and Anguis- though she does visit Ursus and Vulpes on occasion, too. She's Zekai's partner and his closest companion outside of his own Union. They've been together for three years, and share a lot- including two halves of a scarf they were given on a mission together. As one of the most formidable fighters across all Unions, Eileen is allowed to go wherever she pleases, so long as she's escorted by a member of the Union she's leaving for on a given week. Despite her skill and intelligence, she is incredibly gullible, willingly following Emrys despite knowing the dangers of the forest. Her curiosity and willingness to see anything through to its end know no bounds, and unfortunately, it has some fairly negative results. She's Shizuko's younger twin sister, and Zekai's long-term partner in crime. Inokosu's mentor, Nagare's first helper, and Ryunami's impulse control.

Emrys - Outsider

A gentle soul held back by his past. Bears a notable resemblance to a Chirithy. People often experience deja vu around him, but nobody's thought to ask why yet. Nobody in the main group trusts him, and for good reason. It was his whispers that drew Ryunami and Shizuko to the woods five years before the beginning of the story. It was his influence that brought Eileen to the woods at the beginning of their journey. In reality, he's been around as long as the Foretellers. He was a part of Vulpes before rules about cross-Union friendships were instated. His refusal to accept such rules resulted in him "disappearing." In truth, he was claimed by Luxu for an experiment- the first of many, and the only true success. The goal had been to conserve resources by combining a Wielder with their Chirithy. As such, his hair turned from red to cream, and his eyes from red to blue. He retained his ability to wield the Keyblade, but that was about it. After his old out-of-Vulpes friends were claimed by the 'disappearing,' he was locked into a role. One star held his friends' lost souls, as one. The other held only his beloved Enora. A second layer was added to his cape, which was possessed of a particular form of control. All that has to happen is a single word be uttered by the right person, and he'll be lost to his surroundings until they see fit to release him. He's the reason Shizuko has the Mark of the Lupulelli on her eye. He's the reason Ryunami has her scarred arm. He's the reason Eileen enters the forest. Zekai and Nagare don't trust him, and Inokosu is neutral at best.

Zekai is such an old character of mine. He originated from a roblox fantasy ga"me that my friend and I played years ago and did a silly non-serious roleplay in. His personality is literally "Obsessed with Milk and Cheese" the cheese obsession came from Skyrim where I made him in that game too. bro have no actual plot he just exists and a silly kitty who steals milk and cheese from anyone and everyone.

Zekai lays his head on her lap, his eyes focusing on the screen of the television. There was one person on this island he would allow to comfort him like this and it was Apple. It probably helped the two of them have been best friends for as long as he could remember. He places his hand on her knee, brushing his thumb against it. "How are you doing?" He asks softly, lifting his eyes up towards her.
