I Just went and test drove the 2020 Explorer ST. Here's a quick review. via /r/cars
I Just went and test drove the 2020 Explorer ST. Here's a quick review.
Having owned a 2017 Sport for almost 4 years now and with the 2020s hitting dealers, I thought I would go check them out in person to see if its worth the upgrade.
I drove a black ST with the optional ST Wheel pack pic
Exterior: From the rear ¾ all the way to the side view, this thing looks pretty aggressive. The optional ST wheels look great, but the painted red stock calipers are pretty gimmicky. Moving to the front ¾ view the previous gen post facelift (2016-2019) absolutely wins here. The 2020 isnt very aggressive looking even in the ST trim and just kinda looks like a fish.
interior: For how large the previous gen was, its always felt like the interior space was poorly utilized. The door panels are extremely fat, and the dash comes up really high and back down into the cabin. Sync 3 and the Sony sound system on the Sport is decent, but the B&O in the 2020 is worlds better. The floor in the rear is now flat, and the bucket seats tilt and slide forward instead of completely folding up to make getting in the back seats easier.
The ST seats are much more supportive, and an major upgrade with individually adjustable lower mid and upper lumbar, as well as a massage function which is also a bit gimmicky. The side bolsters are very supportive and hold you in the seat, unlike the previous where there was almost zero bolstering present. The ventilated seats work great and are welcome with the 100F days we have here in Texas.
Compared to the 2017, the steering wheel in the ST is fantastic. Its nice and fat and I found gripping it right where the paddle shifters are was extremely comfortable.
Ford has done away with the mechanical gauges in the ST and Platinum and gone to a single screen. There are several drive modes, and depending on the mode you select the display changes to accommodate. In normal mode, the screen only displays speed, but Sport changes to speed as well as tach. I thought I was going to hate the giant vertical tablet screen but its not actually terrible, and navigation shows a lot more of your route ahead than a landscape style screen. All of the climate controls are pretty intuitive and have mechanical buttons and dials.
The ST and platinum come standard with radar cruise, and start stop traffic as well as blind spot and lane control. I tested it out a bit and works pretty well even when coming to a full stop.
Performance: ST and Platinum come with the 3.0 ecoboost, and 10 speed standard. When comparing this to the 3.5 ecoboost and archaic 6 speed in the previous gen this thing is fast as shit for a large SUV. I cant wait to see what Livernois will do with this thing.
The one major complaint I have with the FWD based 2017 is the massive amount of torque steer you get at anything past half throttle. I always had felt like I had to compensate to keep it from pulling right. With the RWD based AWD its extremely stable and straight and the acceleration is a completely different feeling, its just constant and uninterrupted with the 10 speed. Overall turn in is way better and just feels overall more capable than previous gen.
Price: at around $57k MSRP its certainly not cheap. Given previous pricing trends, these should be going for well under MSRP once dealers get flooded with them. if you don’t care about the extra power or features, I feel the Limited trim will be a really good buy if you need a SUV with a 3rd row.
TL;DR: This is a massive upgrade from the previous Taurus based generation in every single way

2020 Toyota Highlander Starting Price Rises $2,770 to $35,720
Toyota has released pricing details on its family-friendly staple, the Highlander midsize crossover. The redesigned 2020 Toyota Highlander is priced from $35,720, making it more expensive than key competitors when you compare base configurations. That price also represents an increase of $2,770 over the base 2019 Toyota Highlander, which came with a 2.7-liter I-4 that’s no longer available on the new-generation Highlander. Compared to a 2019 Toyota Highlander LE with the 3.5-liter V-6, the 2020 Highlander’s starting price is only up $720, however.
The new Highlander’s starting price is much higher than the 2020 Honda Pilot ($32,645), 2020 Nissan Pathfinder ($32,775), and 2020 Ford Explorer ($32,765). The Chevrolet Traverse, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and others join the list of SUVs with lower starting prices. All-wheel-drive Highlanders start at $37,320.
Fortunately, the Highlander boasts plenty of standard features to go along with the price tag. These include an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone automatic climate control, eight cupholders, four bottle holders, eight-way power adjustable driver seat, and four-way power adjustable front passenger seat. The base model has eight seats, but the next-level LE trim comes standard with seven seats, with the extra seat optional. This trim is priced from $37,920.
As we previously reported, the standard engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 with 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid models combine a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors for an excellent 36 mpg in combined city and highway driving. But for the improved fuel economy, you’ll have to pay at least $39,320. This gets you the base Highlander Hybrid LE model; AWD starts at $40,920.
XLE models sit in the middle of the lineup, priced from $40,720. For standard leather-trimmed seats, you’ll have to opt for at least the Limited grade. This model, priced from $44,770, also boasts heated and ventilated front seats as well as a heated steering wheel, ambient interior LED lighting, an 11-speaker sound system, and other upgrades. Add the hybrid powertrain, and you’re looking at a minimum of $46,170. But Platinum models sit at the top of the lineup, with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen, a silver-painted front bumper and rear fascia, and unique 20-inch wheels. Platinum prices start at $47,970, but skyrocket to $51,320 on the most expensive hybrid AWD version.
The top-trim Pilot is similarly expensive, even without the hybrid powertrain, getting into the $50,000 range. Although the top Nissan Pathfinder stays in the $40,000s, the Explorer can cost a pretty penny. The Explorer Limited Hybrid goes for $53,475, while the very top-trim Explorer Platinum is an eye-watering $59,445.
The 2020 Toyota Highlander goes on sale this month, and the Highlander Hybrid arrives in February.

2019 Ford Explorer Redesign, Price, Spy Shots
New Post has been published on http://fordrumors.xyz/2019-ford-explorer-redesign-price-spy-shots/
2019 Ford Explorer Redesign, Price, Spy Shots
2019 Ford Explorer Redesign, Price, Spy Shots – The Explorer will be the original crossover, and it used to be the very best offering one particular on earth. However, occasions changed along with the vehicle is not near the top of the maps. However, it is one of the greater offerings on the market which has a very nice mixture of performance, area, and cost. The issue in this article is that the recent model is founded on a system which can be more than a ten years aged. For that several proposed how the forthcoming 2019 Ford Explorer could be a whole new vehicle. Nevertheless, these are only rumors at this time, and yes it remains to be to be seen what Ford will work.
2019 Ford Explorer Price And Release Date
2019 Ford Explorer Price
In spite of that, we will often concur that this 2019 model will certainly be a new auto. Why? Effectively, your competition is becoming fierce, and VW will release their very first correct significant crossover shortly. This means that Ford must work a great deal so that you can continue to be one of the much better marketing crossovers on the market.
2019 Ford Explorer Spy Shots
The 2019 Ford Explorer is expected to get somewhat larger, more active and it also may even be depended on a different platform. The date of release is, unfortunately, unknown at this time while the price remains to be beneath wraps. However, we might start to see the car by the end of 2017 or earlier 2018 which could be in time for that new VW.
Platform
2019 Ford Explorer Interior
The actual product is dependant on a development of your front wheel travel D3 platform. The impending Ford Explorer 2019 has become rumored to get based on a revised CD4 program that also underpins the Fusion. This is rather intriguing as it would mean it can certainly get lighter. To become larger, Ford will need to increase the wheelbase making it bigger. However, this does not imply it can get very much heavier. It would appear that the auto may lose up to 500 kilos which will bring it very much even closer 4,000 pounds, the same as the levels of competition. Like well before, the car must be front side tire push but with the newest chassis, a better all tire travel system will become available.
2019 Ford Explorer Changes
2019 Ford Explorer Redesign
Many people buy the current Explorer for the muscular physical appearance, and SUV-like seems. Rightly, the latest product will not be expected to modify all of that much. It appears that the changes may be minimized to keep its buyers satisfied. Any additional length, breadth and most likely the reduced body will only have a much more muscular physical appearance than well before. Within the cabin, we must also see main changes over exactly what is on the market today. You will find extra space for all six travelers along with the technologies degree will probably be on par with the most useful in its class.
Ford Explorer 2019 Engine
2019 Ford Explorer Engine
Because the 2019 Ford Explorer will always be an entrance wheel drive car, it means that this will not be able to property a V8 or bigger engine underneath the hood. On top of that, the CD4 foundation is a little limited in this connection. We anticipate the previous 3.5 and 3.7 liters normally aspirated V6 motors to become stopped. The 2.3-liter type of EcoBoost inline four will most likely keep as being the base provides. Further within the variety, a normally aspirated V6 is improbable. Instead, we may see Ford’s slightly larger 2.7 liter V6 which may offer 325 horse power and 350 lb-ft of torque. This is rather the same as the older bigger by natural means aspirated V6 engines. The top stop model should likewise be given a small 3 liter EcoBoost with around 400 horsepower. Like well before, the top finish engine are only located on the Platinum and Sports activities designs. This ought to only be available with all-tire generate and merely with an auto. So far it still is unclear what gearbox the car will offer you. Regardless of that, it will be one of the first to receive Ford’s new nine rate intelligent.

SUV Showdown: 2020 Ford Explorer vs. 2020 Kia Telluride
Editor’s note: This story originally ran in January and has been updated with new information.
Three-row crossovers aren’t sexy, but they’re sure gaining lots of attention lately. Introduced at the 2019 Detroit auto show in January, the 2020 Kia Telluride joins the Volkswagen Atlas, Subaru Ascent, and Hyundai Palisade as another completely new nameplate in the segment. Also new is the sixth-generation 2020 Ford Explorer, which benefits from a significant redesign. So how does the ambitious newcomer compare against to the segment staple? Take a look below to find out.
Exterior Design
In terms of design, the Explorer builds off the previous model. The headlights and grille take on a more rounded shape, the roofline appears more sloped, and the rear end is new, though it keeps the old model’s blacked-out A-pillars and D-pillars. The Telluride receives more unexpected design cues that give it a quirky vibe. Square headlights, curved taillights, muscular wheel arches, and boxy proportions contribute to the Telluride’s unique personality. Oversized “Telluride” badging can be seen on the edge of the hood and on the liftgate.
Powertrain
The Explorer comes with a choice of four engines while the Telluride offers just one. The base engine on the Explorer is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four making 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Platinum models receive a 3.0-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 good for 365 hp and 380 lb-ft on 93-octane gas. A more powerful 3.0-liter engine makes 400 hp and 415 lb-ft in the ST. Finally, there’s a hybrid Explorer that uses a 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V-6 making a total of 318 hp. All engines come paired to a 10-speed automatic.
The Telluride is less powerful than even the base Explorer. The 3.8-liter V-6 makes 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, and it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic.
There’s another big difference between the two vehicles. Although both are available with all-wheel drive, the Explorer comes standard with rear-wheel drive, and the Telluride is standard with front-wheel drive. The latter has an available self-leveling rear suspension that automatically adjusts the ride height based on the vehicle load.
Fuel Economy
The Telluride maxes out at 20/26/23 mpg city/highway/combined, or 19/24/21 mpg when paired with all-wheel drive. The Explorer’s 2.3-liter turbo-four is more efficient than the Telluride, netting 21/28/24 mpg with rear-wheel drive and 20/27/23 mpg with all-wheel drive. The EPA’s website also lists a 18/24/20 mpg rating for the Explorer’s 3.0-liter engine. We’re still awaiting full fuel economy information for the new Explorer.
Drive Modes
The Explorer offers up to seven driving modes. These include normal, sport, trail, slippery, tow/haul, and eco modes; all-wheel-drive models with the advanced terrain management system add a deep snow and sand mode. The Telluride has four driving modes: smart, eco, sport, and comfort. Two special settings include one for snow and another called “AWD lock,” which delivers power evenly to all four wheels.
Interior Design and Features
The Explorer (pictured above) can seat up to seven, depending on the trim level chosen. The Telluride offers seating for up to eight occupants.
When you step inside the Explorer, you’ll notice the buttons are arranged in an orderly fashion. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, but a tablet-style 10.1-inch screen is available. The Telluride’s 10.3-inch screen is oriented horizontally, unlike the similarly sized unit in the Explorer. The Explorer offers a rotary shifter to the Telluride’s more traditional gear selector. Grip handles on the Telluride’s center console hint that the model is capable of venturing off the beaten path.
Both models share a number of important creature comforts, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and multiple USB ports. The Explorer has up to four, and the Telluride has five standard and up to six available.
Among the Telluride’s unique features is a “quiet mode,” which makes sure the audio playing in the front row doesn’t reach the back rows. When the driver wants to communicate with those in the rear, an available microphone can help. Third-row occupants will enjoy reclining seats. Meanwhile, the Explorer features a nifty 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that has special 3-D animated graphics for each driving mode.
Towing
The Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Towing numbers for the Explorer vary from model to model. Platinum models with the 3.0-liter V-6, for instance, can tow 5,600 pounds. The standard 2.3-liter engine can tow up to 5,300 pounds with the Class III Trailer Tow package.
Dimensions
The Ford and Kia look different but are sized similarly. The Telluride measures 196.9 inches in length, slightly shorter than the Explorer’s 198.8 inches. The Telluride is 78.3 inches wide compared to the Explorer’s 78.9 inches. The differences in the wheelbase are more noticeable: 114.2 inches for the Telluride and 119.1 inches for the Explorer.
Depending on the trim, ground clearance is 7.9 or 8.0 inches on the Telluride. The Explorer comes in at 7.9 inches, though Platinum models stand at 8.2 inches and ST models at 8.3 inches.
The Telluride wins when it comes to cargo space behind the third row: 21.0 cubic feet compared to the Explorer’s 18.2 cubic feet. If you drive with the third-row seat folded, however, the Explorer pulls ahead, with 47.9 cubic feet of space to the Telluride’s 46.0 cubic feet. Of course, we’ll have to compare the cargo bays for ourselves before we decide which one feels roomier.
Now how about legroom? The Explorer lags behind in the second row with 39 inches compared to the Telluride’s 42.4 inches of legroom. But the Explorer makes a comeback in third-row legroom, which measures 32.2 inches, ahead of the Telluride’s 31.4 inches.
Safety
Both the Explorer and Telluride offer a slew of safety features. They each get collision avoidance tech, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Ford offers evasive steering assist, which provides steering support to help avoid a crash.
Pricing and Availability
The 2020 Kia Telluride began sales this spring, while the 2020 Ford Explorer enters the market in June. As we reported earlier, the base Explorer starts $33,860, putting it well above the Telluride’s starting price of $32,735. The most expensive Explorer in the lineup, the Platinum model, goes for $59,345, while the Telluride’s top trim only comes in at $42,535.
