The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B was rated as the most advanced convertible sports car of its time. Also called as the Italian equivalent of the Bugatti Atlantic, while others compared it to the Mercedes 540K in terms of the driving experience it offered. It has a 180 hp, 2,905 cc DOHC inline eight-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts and double Roots-type supercharging (designed by Vittorio Jano), four-speed manual transmission, independent double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs on shock absorbers, swing-axle rear suspension with radius arms, transverse semi-elliptical leaf spring and hydraulic friction dampers, and hydraulic drum brakes on all four wheels. The 8C 2900 was not just a sports car, but the most advanced, modern and convincing that money could buy.

The record price for an Alfa Romeo sold at auction belongs to an 1939 8C 2900 Lungo Spider, sold by RM Sotheby’s in 2016 for a hammer price of $18 million ($19.8 million with fees). The 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta sold for a fee-inclusive €16.75 million ($18.98 million), reportedly to a U.S. buyer.
