i haven’t gotten the chance to listen to Younger Now yet but i really should, i almost feel like a disney channel poser at times cause it’s like “oh i didn’t know that” but you have extraordinary taste so i trust you

i know you’ve probably talked about it before, but if you could how would you write/ direct camp rock 2? are there any elements that remain the same? would it be a complete scrap? would you want to just move on to a third movie and pretend nothing in the second one happened? would it be a shane gray prequel? i want to know all your thoughts! - 🐻

omg thank you?? and yeah the thing about disney channel is that it's like. a tv network. a corporation. so there's SO much and i've cut myself into a very specific niche and know very little about everything else so you are valid.

and this is such a good question pls see under the cut

i've never thought seriously about it before but i am now and i think like. while i think a lot about a shane gray prequel i want it to be a lot edgier than it could be realistically (i have this image of a montage of him partying in different hotel rooms with an ever rotating group of people we've never seen before and another image of him coming back to his hotel room completely trashed after something fucked up happens and jasons there disappointed and resigned like. just go to sleep shane.)

but like a realistic camp rock 2 that actually fits the tone and consistency of the first film i totally think you could do without it being too hard. i think like if you make it mitchie and shane have spent the year trying to spend time together around his schedule and they've done the best they can and have had really good moments and a solid relationship so far but the whole year has been like leading up to it's ok we'll get to spend 6 weeks together uninterrupted and it's very good at first but shane gets some really good offer for somE career thing like that would either require him to leave camp early or maybe he'd decided not to tour again after the last year's one where it was them having to make up the one that was cancelled in the first movie and he's deliberating between this work-life balance before ultimately deciding that the life part is what makes him happy and healthy and for the first time in so long he just wants to Live in all senses of the word.

because like the whole thing with shane in the first movie was the poor little rich kid trope like he's miserable because he has this public life where he's beholden to everyone but himself and he tried his best to escape it while in it and couldn't do it??? and to have it be "no he's fine being famous now <3" when the problem was never actually resolved is unfair to him.

one of the things i really stand by in canon camp rock 2 is mitchie's development since we last saw her. her confidence and radiance is so impactful and absolutely what she deserves. and in the first film she showcases that confidence primarily when she's with shane because the two of them bring out the best in each other partially because the other person needs that aspect of them. but mitchie getting to camp and having a project (unknown. will think. not saving the camp.) and having said project be working with her friends who she barely even talks to in cr2. building on mitchie and caitlyn's relationship through that??

i'd also write tess and caitlyn a lot closer and like taking the time to contrast them and their experiences and caitlyn kinda leading tess to accepting that she doesn't need her mother's approval because she has the approval of her friends.

i like jason working with the junior rockers but you'd have to establish that suddenly there are children at camp when there weren't before. nate i think could join in on whatever mitchie and co. are up to because i think nate and mitchie could be very real friends and especially if mitchie's spent the last year with shane in whatever capacity she'd know him fairly well by now.

i really love the closure to brown's arc in camp rock 2 where he comes to terms with the fact that rose colored glasses lie when he's confronted with what life was actually like when he was in the music industry and i'd like to keep that, so maybe he's part of the shane arc where he's kinda pushing shane to do it in a not heavy handed way bc that isn't his style, but when shane decides to let it go he's like. damn. yeah ok. would probably have him in contact with whoever is offering shane said opportunity (like literally two phone calls throughout the thing, one where he calls shane and one where brown talks to him and could even give the "that's fine i don't want to be in your business" line.)

there's the whole thing with children's media where they respond to a majority of kids polling with "i want to be famous when i grow up" but i think that's unfair to the characters, and i think further that showing that it's not all it's cracked up to be is really valuable. i'm going to keep thinking about this for sure thank you.

hugely nerdy and self indulgent cr2/doctor who crossover widomauk rambling, as promised. under the cut you will find: caleb the time/space travelling atoner, nott & jester & fjord & beau the companions, molly the jack harkness/river song figure, and as always: ludicrous romantic tension.

caleb is the doctor because it’s the most obvious choice and sometimes the most obvious choice is the most suitable, and also the easiest. repentant, keeping other people around for their utility and how they keep him human, kind of a pushy know-it-all weirdo bastard, etc. the whole doctor deal. destroyed his whole planet! but probably for less noble reasons. oh caleb you bastard etc. is currently trying to gather the tools and knowledge from across space-time to “fix” his mistake.

nott, jester, fjord, and beau are his companions. nott was his first companion, because she's what really opened him up to the idea of having someone with him, someone that can keep him in line and human, and that it's good to have a friend instead of being alone.

after nott leaves (probably doesn’t die? just. Has To Leave for some reason, she’s okay) caleb is despondent and HERE COMES JESTER! GAP YEAR! and also on the run, but that’s less important. she’s an alien! jester and fjord’s tenures overlap slightly, and then jester leaves to go back to her mom. later on caleb abandons fjord back home after fjord almost Awakens a very bad being to obtain Great Power and caleb is like yeah... this dude should not be around me and the power i have, i’m bad enough already, two of us hopping through spacetime is. not a great combo for all life in the universe

he’s not looking to have another companion after that but look who it is! beau. and beau doesn’t want to be there and caleb doesn’t want her there but she’s STUCK in the tardis for some scifi reason and ZANY ADVENTURES AND ETHICAL CONUNDRUMS ENSUE and she’s the best companion (she’s caleb’s donna). they fight so much and caleb appreciates it. beau like... realizes that she has power in her life! she can affect change! she’s meaningful and can achieve great good! and she turns out really cool and good. hell yeah beau i love her

molly is a sort of jack harkness/river song figure, except better because i’m not steven moffat. jumping around spacetime with a vortex manipulator to have fun and see everything and indulge in all the luxuries the universe has to offer, popping in and out of caleb’s timeline in haphazard, shuffled order. it’s always sort of ambiguous if they’re in a romance or not? because they’re trying to avoid unstable paradoxes and oversharing information, but there’s lingering looks and dropped hints. they eventually start keeping little timeline journals to figure out when the other is. (if you know penumbra, throw in a dash of peter nureyev as well.)

when caleb first meets molly, molly’s known him for a good long while at that point. nott’s with him at that point, and when he meets her molly's face lights up and he goes "so THIS is nott the brave! i've heard so much about you! mostly good things." because in molly’s timeline, this is the first time he’s met the famous nott! up until then, from his perspective, nott had left the tardis. and nott is like ........who? the fuck? are you? and caleb is also like........ ah fuck this is weird. ok. ok

molly travels with them for a month or so, and then bids them adieu and flounces off to live his own life. “it’s what we do,” he explains to nott and caleb. “i live my life, and you live your life, but it’s always so good to see you.”

right before he leaves, he pauses and considers caleb, a hand tapping his chin and a smirk curling up his mouth. then he leans in and drops a peck on caleb's lips. "you told me i do that when i first leave," molly says, winking. caleb isn't quite sure if molly is telling the truth, or if he's just making up an excuse as to why he kissed him, but he's bright red and he can't really react or even process it. because he’d noticed molly was pretty - how could one not - but he’s never even considered having romantic relationships, what with the weight on his shoulders, but - but???????

then molly says, "i'll be seeing you later, mister caleb." and he walks into the packed spaceport they’re in, and caleb is standing there stunned, and then nott returns with two cups of coffee, and she looks at caleb's face & posture and the last flicker of riotous color disappearing into so many people, and she goes, "what just happened?! what did he do?! do you want me to follow him?! make him pay?!" and caleb absently reaches up to his mouth, then curls his hand into a fist at the last moment. "no... no, nott. let's go back to the tardis, ja?"

the next time caleb sees molly, it’s a month after that. so caleb has known him for two months. but molly says he’s known caleb for a long, long time, and looks at him so sweetly and caringly for a moment that caleb has to look away. molly asks how long caleb’s known him, and caleb says “two months.” and molly goes “oh!” and seems to consciously put whatever feelings he has in a little box in his head, and acts very normally and courteously towards him, seems to purposefully distance himself from him. there’s still some lingering looks and unconscious touches that he can’t seem to help, and everyone knows what’s going on, but caleb just does his best to ignore it and everyone else doesn’t acknowledge it. it’s a weird, kind of awkward situation.

“i don’t want to make caleb uncomfortable,” he tells nott at some point. “the poor man has enough stress in his life already. i just try to bring some laughter and light into his life when i see him.” caleb and molly almost have a talk about some things, but they get interrupted with no small amount of Dramatic Irony, and then...

that adventure closes with molly dying to save caleb and nott’s lives. stands in front of the evil alien of the week, scifi weapons flashing even as he’s near death, listing to one side but still spitting out curses and quips, just enough time for the safety of an airlock door to close in front of caleb and nott. and when that door opens, the room is empty except for a huge sword plunged through molly’s chest and into the floor, and molly is already cold. his coat is in tatters and his eyes are still open. there were no goodbyes.

they push his body out to drift in space, free and untethered. they take his coat and hang it up in the closet of the room molly stayed in for that first month, because molly loved that coat and they can’t just... let it freeze in the vacuum of space.

caleb is tempted to save the little journal that molly said he kept their timelines straight in, is tempted to read it and learn and know and have control over that so he can stop it from happening so molly doesn’t die for him or get involved with him - but nott stops his hand and says third rule: no unstable paradoxes. and caleb nods, and huffs out a weak laugh at the callback to his crash-course time travelling guide, and leaves the little book in molly’s pant pocket.

the next time he sees him he's shocked - he stands stock still as molly lopes up to him, and molly goes "mister caleb! so excited to see you, hello darling! lovely as always to run into you. let's compare notes, shall we? line ourselves up?" and caleb stops - stutters backward - and then walks away, heedless of molly's confused, unknowing "caleb? caleb, what's wrong?" and he goes back to the tardis and tells nott they have to go somewhere else. they can't stay in this time and location. they have to leave. caleb can't let molly interact with him again. he can't. he's too dangerous. not after he got molly killed, and nott barely escaping with her life.

so time goes on, and nott helps caleb continue on, and one night as they float through an asteroid belt she quietly says, "it's okay to be sad about him. even though you know he's kind of okay, right now and before and after. everyone dies, caleb." and caleb doesn't say anything, just fiddling with the console.

"did you love him?" nott ventures.

caleb sighs. "nott, i barely knew him. we'd only met twice."

nott shifts uncomfortably where she's perched among the columns. "well, it seems like you probably will, judging by how he was, yknow, looking at you and touching you. hugging you and all that. yeah. and, yknow. you should let yourself have that. because you're going to. or something like that. whatever, time travel is weird."

and caleb weakly chuckles, then sighs, and slumps against the controls, and stands there for a long, long moment. then he says, "we should get some sleep. i'll take you to one of the best vineyards in the six nearest galaxies tomorrow, i promise you."

the next time caleb sees molly isn't for a long time, and caleb despairs that he wasted his last look at molly with running away from him even though he knows that’s not how their timeline works, but it goes to the back of his mind as he continues learning and having adventures and gathering the knowledge and the tools he needs for what he wants to do.

nott leaves, and jester arrives. and then one day they’re in a packed, crowded market square on a trade planet, and jester is calling caleb over to a little stall by a tent and there, sitting at the counter and fanning cards in front of jester’s eager eyes, is molly.

caleb is so relieved to see him, to apologize for how he acted before and to see a dead man walking and to apologize (even though he can’t say why - but he remembers molly commenting you’re always saying sorry to me for things i have no idea about and you always refuse to tell me! it’s kind of cute. a little tic you have.), but molly doesn't recognize him. molly is chattering away with jester, schmoozing, trying to get her to come to fletching and moondrop’s space-travelling carnival of curiosities, and jester is tugging on caleb's arm saying pleeeease please can we go caleb pleeeeeeaaase it sounds soooo fun!

molly winks, glitter drawn in swirls on his face, and caleb notices he doesn't have his coat or all of his tattoos and scars yet, and there’s no spark of recognition in his eyes. "caleb, is it?" molly says, and caleb's breath catches in his throat. "i'm sure at least one part of our collection can put a smile on that handsome face of yours."

blah blah blah it continues on. there’s an adventure, gustav gives molly his vortex manipulator after the carnival gets shut down and molly travels with caleb and jester for a bit while he figures out how to fix it. then he does, and strikes out on his own. and then things weave on from there, and caleb is always afraid that this is the last time in his timeline that he’ll see molly, and he’s tightroping between wanting to savor it and wanting to push him away and wanting to deny that there’s anything there.

hm... i imagine yasha is like. from a planet that is kind of. daleky? caduceus is a cool alien with a fixed-point shop and stuff. angel. i’ll add more to this post if i ever think of anything. yeehaw!

NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 2019 Day 13 Review

First up was Ren Narita vs. BUSHI. Narita wanted to use his grappling to get the win here, but Bushi continually fought out of it. Bushi did kinda grapple with him as well, but mostly kept it to striking. This was Narita’s final stand, and he tried do match Bushi blow for blow, hold for hold, doing anything that he could to get this win here. However, Bushi was still able to hit a lungblower and then MX for the win. Bushi: 12, Narita: 0

Grade: B. And Narita ends without a win. Sucks for him, but that just means that he isn’t quite ready to go on excursion yet. This was a good match, and Narita seemed like he might win it, but Bushi has been booked so strong that he couldn’t quite get it done. Good stuff to Bushi, it seems like he may be in line for a title shot soon, or another run with the tag belts. I liked this, and to Narita, you’ll get next time.

Next up was Bandido vs. Rocky Romero. Rocky came out in a mix of black tiger and bandido mask. Both guys paid some tribute to Eddie Guerrero with the shimmy. Bandido then agreed to not go for the leg during the match, after Rocky begged him not to drop an elbow on it. Rocky continued to work over the arm here, which was an injury that Bandido was working through during the tournament, which was kinda heel move. Bandido quickly went for the knee, going back on his promise to counter the forever clotheslines. The two were very fired up, and just wrecked each other with shots to their respective injuries. In the finish, Bandido fought out of a guillitine choke by hitting the leg, then hit a go to sleep and the 21 plex for the win. Bandido: 10, Rocky: 6.

Grade: B+. A good finale for both of them, two babyfaces that are just hitting each other with whatever they could. They attacked each other’s injuries becasue they both needed those points, despite not really being able to win. I hope that Bandido comes back next year, he was a fun competitor. Rocky was a shockingly awesome highlight of the tournament, and in my opinion put on the best match of the tournament with Phantasmo, at least so far. Good stuff to them, and I hope they make a return to the ring at BOSJ 27.

Then we had Robbie Eagles vs. YOH. This should be a fun little match, guys with similar builds and speeds. Both also focused on each other’s legs, which created an interesting dynamic throughout the match. At one point, Yoh went for the skin the cat into a superkick, but Eagles picked the leg and countered into a Ron Miller Special. Yoh could barely even get any work done on Eagle’s knee, because eagles was so overwhelming. Yoh kept going for the Dragon Suplex, but the best that he could do was hit a bridging german for 2. As Yoh ran the ropes, Eagles hit an ensiguri, only for Yoh to skin the cat and hit a superkick, followed by a dragon suplex and the win. Yoh: 12, Eagles: 10.

Grade: B-. Good stuff, a bit of a shocking win for me though, I really thought Eagles would get 12 here, but it’s totally fine. So Yoh outperforms his partners Rocky Romero and SHO, which is interesting. As for Eagles, I hope that he will be back next year, and hopefully still in Bullet Club. I want to see him betray them next year probably, because he is a babyface who is desperately trying to prove himself. Not the best that I thought they could do, but a good win for Yoh.

Then we had El Phantasmo vs. DOUKI. Phantasmo stole a fan’s hat on the way in, threw it into the crowd, he was having fun, but Douki attacked before the bell. I’m sure Tsuji was thrilled that he didn’t get kicked in the balls before the match. Douki went for a suicide dive, and Phantasmo threw a chair at him as he attacked, so this was question of who could cheat better. I was thrilled to see Phantasmo fight the only heel who I dislike more than him in B Block, because I could unashamedly enjoy how funny and douchey he is. At one point, Phantasmo went for a hurricanrana off the top, but Douki slipped when selling it and crashed face first into the top rope. Phantasmo hit an awesome frog splash for a near fall. At one point, Phantasmo went for CR2, but Douki countered into a spike rana for a near fall, and then locked in the necktie choke. In the finish, Phantasmo yanked down the mask of Douki, hit a superkick and then a CR2 for the win. Phantasmo: 12, Douki: 2.

After the match, Phantasmo seemed to challenge Jushin Thunder Liger to a match for the British Cruiserweight Championship. The two nearly brawled but the young lions seperated it.

Grade: C+. Hot start to the match, but this ended up not being too great. The work was fine, but I just couldn’t bring myself to care about Douki this late in the tournament. I thought he was a good wrestler that never really found his groove, but I am fine with getting Desperado back. I don’t know when, but Desperado will be fun to see again. As for Phantasmo, I’m sure he won’t be constantly appearing in New Japan, but I’ll be excited when he does. I don’t follow RevPro super closely, but I will be looking to see how he does. I hope he comes back at least a little bit, because he is a great heel and great talent.

And the main event, Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Will Ospreay. Winner fights Shingo Takagi in the finals. This was the finals of the tournament in 2016, so we should be in for a great match. Taguchi was pretty serious at the beginning of the match, and he is good when he turns it on. They had a couple silly spots, but it didn’t hurt the match at all. Ospreay had a pretty clear strength advantage here, and wrecked Taguchi with chops to the chest. Taguchi went for the leg of Ospreay, which was targetted throughout the tournament. Ospreay also showed off some of his techincal wrestling, which we do not see much in favor of his striking and flying. The two traded blows, mostly hip attacks from Taguchi. Ospreay went for his classic tiger fang kick over the top, but Taguchi picked the leg and had an ankle lock for a bit. Ospreay fought back and hit some sort of twisting splash from the top to the floor, and it looked awesome. The two exchanged counters and big moves in the middle of the ring for a bit, before Taguchi ended it with a bumboye. Taguchi went for the Dodon several times, but couldn’t get it, so he hit a tiger suplex instead. Ospreay was just refusing to let the Dodon hit him. Ospreay was locked in the ankle lock for a bit, and desperately fought out of it, and nailed his devastating powerbomb for a near fall. Ospreay went for an Os Cutter, but Taguchi picked the ankle, and then transitioned into a Dodon, Ospreay kicked out, but Taguchi reversed it into an ankle lock, and barely made it out. In the finish, Taguchi had a crucifix cover on Ospreay, but he fought out and hit a double kick on Taguchi, before a ripcord hook kick and a stormbreaker for the win. Ospreay: 14, Taguchi: 12.

Shingo Takagi approached after the match, and got on the mic. He put over Ospreay in english, and said that while Ospreay was strong, Shingo was better. Ospreay said that he was not scared of Shingo in the slightest, he wanted to win because he loves the company. He fights for people who have the same insecurities that he does, and he vowed to slay the dragon. It was a badass line, so it sucks that no one in the crowd could understand him when he said it.

Grade: A. Really great match. Taguchi took on the role of a serious contender, while Ospreay played it silly when he had to. it was just awesome to see Taguchi pull Ospreay to the mat and attack him as hard as he could. They are great opponents to go up against each other, and did awesome. Ospreay vs. Shingo sounds like a match of the year, and I cannot wait. I actually got the predictions right too, so that is nice. I can’t wait for the finals, and I really won’t know what to do with myself for the next two days.

Overall Grade: B

Pros: Bushi vs. Narita; Bandido vs. Rocky; Main event

So let me talk about Molly one last time

So, with the cast officially leaving and moving on from Molly’s grave (and all reunited) it seems to me that we won’t see our purple tiefling anymore during this storyline. A lot of people are wondering why some still haven’t gotten over the fact that he died or upset about the fact that no resurrection attempts were done. And, while I can’t speak for all of us, I want to share my little experience going through Molly’s death.

For a little bit of background, I love every single member of the M9. I love their interactions with each other, how they grow, how they’re developing and all of their backstories are so interesting and exciting! So, why am I hyperfocusing on this one?

First of all, when Molly first appeared he didn’t immediately go to be one of the baes. He wasn’t a favorite then (honestly for a long while Caleb held that spot) and while I was interested in him, I was still not fully into him. And then episode 7 hit.

If anybody knows me, I’m a sucker for Widomauk. I shipped them lowkey in the show but super Highkey in the fandom. I wasn’t expecting them to become canon but I had a bit of hope that they would waaaayy down the line. This wasn’t the episode where I necessarily started shipping them, but it’s the one that got me the whole “hmmm interesting” vibe you get before starting to ship something.

But this is not why episode 7 hit me. Personally I didn’t find the kiss to be super duper shippy... but I felt it was important and while it gave hints to Caleb’s past, it also gave hints to Molly’s personality. Molly, a dude from a circus who barely knew Caleb and who could’ve definitely just left the handling of his panic attack to his much more closer friend Nott, decided to personally douse the flames and attempt to help him out of it (not in the most healthy way or correct way but he’s not the smartest one of the bunch). And so... I became a little bit more interested in him.

What took the gold was episode 9 and the Syphillis bandits and that... was it. After that incident I knew I was a goner and that he was going to be the fave of this campaign. The way he handled it, the way he treated the bandits and the way he kind of did it with some excellent lines along the way? All good shit.

I became more intrigued with him after episode 13 and the reveal (or partial reveal) of his backstory. There was so many possibilities and so many things with it that I had questions and I was excited to find out. So, even more tabs on him were placed.

What got me in the next episodes was the fact that... he didn’t shine in a lot of things. He was an ok character in battle (doing a lot of damage and some disadvantages but not a lot of defense or long range or healing), he didn’t have high charisma (so no talking himself out of stuff, which is something that Tal excels in ) all he had were exceedingly good character moments (Nott and the letter, the swords with teleportation, dunking Fjord in the water, the vases in the dungeon, the tapestry, inciting a drinking competition, etc.)... so then why is he fave? It’s because I could relate to him a lot. Not just because of his representation (which as a fellow bisexual, it is important to me as well) but because of his pseudo confidence, the way that he just put up a wall of bullshit in front of him to prevent people from touching his past or himself... it’s something I personally do sometimes. A wall of flamboyance and overconfidence. The only person that I actually saw him bring it down a little was Yasha whenever he interacted with her. And slowly, so so very slowly, the others.

So, when episode 25 happened and I learnt he was going to be in a situation that forced him to interact with the teammembers he usually had not exactly the closest relationship with? (He essentially had his best friend, current roommate and growing friend, and the tiefling that he instantly clicked with gone and would be forced to interact with the disaster lesbian he was always fighting with, the goblin whom he had a strange but friendly? antagonistic relationship and a wizard who was still dealing with the fact that he was #aLot) and I was very, very VERY excited. Because he was going to have to interact with them, he was going to be forced into a very stressful situation with them and stressful situations could lead to unification. And I was. So. For. It.

A bit into my personal life for this, around the same time that 25 hit major changes were happening in my life. Major stressful changes. A lot of things were happening that I had no control over and that I understood that things wouldn’t be the same. Because I was in the middle of it, I essentially compartmentalized it and focused on CR2, which was my leading fandom at the time (like when we obsess over something for a long ass time because we’re like WOAH) mostly because it was a lot less stressful than what my life was. During the break week between ep 25-26, I had to say a lot of goodbyes to people I really care about and so I was not in a very happy place. So I went into 26 being very excited about this character I super related and was excited to see their development because people kept saying that he barely had any development with other characters before.

And then... IT happened.

I wasn’t even watching the livestream because I was already emotionally exhausted but I tuned in on Twitter to see if the episode was over and saw people freaking out about it... so I tuned in... and within 5 min of me opening the new twitch tab, Molly died.

And everything in me exploded.

And it was dragged out. Because I knew it was very impossible for them to resurrect him on the spot (being a D&D player myself I knew the limitations). I knew that there may not be a high level cleric around. Or anything else. And yet I kept on hoping and hoping and hoping until it was official. Because all I wanted to see was him growing into this family he created and now we may never get a chance to see it.

So of course I’m upset. Not just because of the lack of potential. Of us potentially never finding out what was up with his backstory. Of us never seeing the true winner of the initial shipping wars. Of him and Fjord starting their own version of a prank war. Of the disaster tieflings. Of the unpleasant and obnoxious duo. Of him and Nott snarking at each other constantly. Of him slowly starting to spread his physical affection with the rest (mostly Mr. Caleb-still-can’t-admit-theyre-friends). Of his relationship with Yasha. But because he was somebody I really identified with. Somebody I wanted to see canonically grow into a better and different person. And now I can’t. And it’s unfair, and it’s sad.

I do like Clay. I do like his backstory and his design and the peace he brings to this group that is desperately in need of somebody like him. (Hell I wrote a fic about him because I do believe he does the M9 good.) And he’s not replacing Molly and I don’t think he ever will. And while I’ll be very happy to see his interactions with the rest of the group, it still won’t be the same. And that’s ok! New characters bring new and interesting dynamics, but it doesn’t stop us from missing the old ones.

And so, because of all the mess of emotions that became tangled with ep26. I still can’t go back to the series. But I do still love critical role. And I do want to see the end of it. I just need to re-discover why I love it.

A good friend of mine once lost a character she really liked in a series (he died permanently as well, and well before his time too). And she took a break from it because all she kept seeing was how people moved on from him and while it was beautiful and good, she couldn’t handle the fact that her fave was not there anymore and that people were already moving on. Surprisingly, I got into the series about a year after this happened and because I kept texting her about it and being super duper excited about it... she got back into it and got up to date with it despite what had happened.

And so, I will definitely get back into the series (and writing more stories about it). And I still wanna know what’s up with the rest. But it will take some time and some healing. And then I’m sure I’ll find myself being super duper excited about something that happens that I’ll just HAVE to start watching it again.

But for now I’ll rest up. So don’t blame people who are still sad about this. And don’t expect people to not be upset about a character that died early on in the series. People associate fandoms and art with different things and we still need time to process stuff.

And so. Rant ended. I’ll see you guys in a few after I finish CR1 and get my feelings back in order. But I know I’ll get back into it my own way.

So obviously I know it’s all luck of the dice and everything but if I was to try and assign a narrative explanation for what happened it would be this:

The resurrection ritual failed because Molly had been reintegrated into Lucien and you simply couldn’t have just Molly without getting all of it then...they were calling out to a mere aspect of a full soul and it simply couldn’t come back that way.

It REQUIRED the intervention of an actual god to separate them again and bring back just Molly because only a God could have that kind of power.

So I rewatched the end of ep140 and I just noticed that when Yasha says she fell in love, Molly doesn’t actually look right to Beau as if he knows...he starts scanning the group as if looking to see who it could be...and when Beau raises her hand he just looks disappointed and judging lol

Like he’s just “oh god, Yasha, not that one...why...”

Exactly like a best friend would do lol

— BASICS.

▸ IS YOUR MUSE TALL / SHORT / AVERAGE ?

In canon, Darwin is 175 cm tall, or about 5′9″. For an adult male of European descent, that’s basically right at average.

▸ ARE THEY OKAY WITH THEIR HEIGHT ?

His mother was a sickly and small waif of a woman, and Darwin went through periods where he wouldn’t eat for days on end due to poverty as a child. He considers himself lucky he managed to even get this tall.

▸ WHAT’S THEIR HAIR LIKE ?

Soft and effortlessly shiny, but a bit on the unpredictable side.

▸ DO THEY SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAIR / GROOMING ?

Oh, the time he spent trying to control that cowlick before realizing it was useless...but now, not so much. Bathing and basic grooming are a necessity, especially when one spends time training and getting all sweaty, but Darwin doesn’t require a whole lot.

▸ DOES YOUR MUSE CARE ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE / WHAT OTHERS THINK ?

He does, to a reasonable extent. Growing up, he didn’t have clothes that could even really be considered presentable until he started getting hand-me-downs from Orlando. He also takes good care of his fighting gear before heading into battle, finding that making his sword and armor shine gives him a bit of a confidence boost.

— PREFERENCES.

▸ INDOORS OR OUTDOORS ? He likes them both. He can spend time lost in his own thoughts in a quiet room or a spacious outdoor area.

▸ RAIN OR SUNSHINE ? He usually prefers sunshine because there’s more to do. In his younger days, he spent a lot of time reading exciting stories, and playing less active games with Orlando or Marie when it rained, but he could actually act out those stories outdoors with his friends on sunny days. Rain also decreases visibility in battle and can lead to slips and falls..

▸ FOREST OR BEACH ? He spent entire days outside in the woods behind the Crichton family home playing with Orlando and Marie until they were exhausted but happy. He’s never been to a beach, but the forest is special to him from so many memories.

▸ PRECIOUS METALS OR GEMS ? Gems tend to offer better stat boosts for speed and luck...

▸ FLOWERS OR PERFUMES ? Flowers.

▸ PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE ? Many of his fellow mercenaries are rough around the edges but good people who share a sense of pride and brotherhood fighting to represent the strength of their country. Personality is key as far as he’s concerned.

▸ BEING ALONE OR BEING IN A CROWD ? Being alone. If he’s in a crowd, he usually prefers to have someone he knows with him. Crowds make him anxious.

▸ ORDER OR ANARCHY ? Order. He’s seen when places fall into anarchy and lawlessness, and there’s nothing but bloodshed and senseless violence. There needs to be an order to things.

▸ PAINFUL TRUTHS OR WHITE LIES ? He’s known his fair share of painful truths. He believes honesty is the best policy, but that doesn’t make the truth hurt any less at times.

▸ SCIENCE OR MAGIC ? Magic and science have close ties in Ornia, with magic being a source of power and technological advancement. It fascinates him, since he has a naturally curious mind. That, and one certain magic user has unquestionably gained his favor.

▸ PEACE OR CONFLICT ? Peace. Though conflict does grant him an income, that doesn’t mean he enjoys it.

▸ NIGHT OR DAY ? Day. The bad memories and nightmares tend to show up at night.

▸ DUSK OR DAWN ? He’s not a morning person by any means, so he’d almost certainly choose dusk.

▸ WARMTH OR COLD ? Warmth. He spent too many of Ornia’s winter nights outside as a very young orphanage runaway. Nowadays, he doesn’t mind the cold quite as much since he knows he’ll have a warm house to return to.

▸ MANY ACQUAINTANCES OR A FEW CLOSE FRIENDS ? He’s not socially inclined, and his closest friends mean the world to him. He would take them over every person on the planet wanting to be his friend.

▸ READING OR PLAYING A GAME ? Both. He’s always liked reading stories about adventure and heroism, getting lost in them easily, but it’s definitely amusing to see Orlando get furiously angry over losing a chess game to his “little brother.” Darwin can only hope to beat Marie someday.

— QUESTIONNAIRE.

▸ WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSE’S BAD HABITS ?

He’s not great about sharing his feelings and his worries even with the people he trusts, and it drives them crazy when they know something’s wrong and want to help. He just fears being a burden to those who have made him feel so accepted and loved. His tendency to bottle things up also leads to sudden outbursts of anger when under duress, and he always feels awful after doing that.

▸ HAS YOUR MUSE LOST ANYONE CLOSE TO THEM ? HOW HAS IT AFFECTED THEM ?

Yes. His parents both died when he was five years old, though he was only close to his mother. His mother passed away first after her fragile health began to decline rapidly, and his father died several months after because of a relapse into substance abuse. Years later, Orlando and Marie’s parents passed away unexpectedly, and that affected him on multiple levels. He had become fond of Mr. and Mrs. Crichton himself, but to watch Orlando and Marie experience the same unbearable pain as he had felt wrong and unfair. They had helped him out of such a dark place, and it didn’t seem like such kind people ought to have to suffer such a great loss.

Once he followed Orlando into the life of a mercenary, he saw much more death. It didn’t get any easier. And throughout the events of CR2, he witnesses deaths of allies as they tried to fight off monsters, and deaths that he had no choice but to inflict. Each death is harder than the one before it.

▸ WHAT ARE SOME FOND MEMORIES YOUR MUSE HAS ?

He tries not to let the memories of his loving mother fade with time, though it gets harder. For the most part, his happiest memories involve Orlando and Marie. They used to play together as children, calling themselves “The Unholy Trinity of Ornia” and having a great time. Even as they got older and playing pretend lost its appeal, his relationship with Orlando turned from a best friend relationship to that of brothers. Marie used to have to take drastic measures in order to put a stop to their prank wars. She wasn’t without her own mischievous streak, however, and she and Darwin would have wild pillow fights when he stayed over at their house, and she always managed to embarrass both of the boys when they had scary storytelling contests. She always managed to have them jumping out of their skin after delving into some old anthology of chilling tales in the name of victory. Those memories are only found in retrospect...back when they were actually occurring, Darwin was petrified.

▸ IS IT EASY FOR YOUR MUSE TO KILL ?

Not even a little. When he was recruited to the Ornian Guard at fifteen, he thought it would be easier to kill since he’d already experienced so much death, and since he was fighting to protect the people he cared about. The abundance of loss in his young life only made it that much harder, and it got to the point where he became so lost in regard to his purpose that he almost forgot why he took up the sword in the first place. Even after the game ends and he regains his sense of direction, killing isn’t easy...but he know that it’s necessary in his line of work. As long as he can be merciful and avoid senseless, unnecessary killing, and he can be sure that he protected his fellow mercenaries, eventually returning home to the people he loves, then he can keep his head held high.

▸ WHAT’S IT LIKE WHEN YOUR MUSE BREAKS DOWN ?

Not many people see Darwin break down, because he keeps a sturdy and imposing wall around his heart. However, this ice-covered brick wall protects a warm and vulnerable heart that feels things very deeply, from anyone who can potentially cause him too much pain if he lets them in. He is shown as a man who cries when appropriate, and in the company of those he trusts...or if he’s under extreme emotional duress (such as when he cries in front of Lessica for the first time). His tears are so heartbreaking to behold that they can bring about a sense of melancholy in others, and because of his tendency to bottle things up, there are times when it’s hard for him to stop crying once he starts.

▸ IS YOUR MUSE CAPABLE OF TRUSTING SOMEONE WITH THEIR LIFE ?

He has to be, what with his line of work. The Ornian Guard is a group of unified mercenaries, so he has to rely on others to watch his back and let others do the same for him if need be. Darwin adapted to this perhaps a bit more slowly than your typical merc, due to the massive trust issues left over from his troubled past, as well as being a reserved and independent person in general. Still, he learned eventually for the sake of survival.

▸ WHAT’S YOUR MUSE LIKE WHEN THEY’RE IN LOVE ?

It’s unexplored territory for him...but he’s always been fond of exploring, and he’s eager to explore this. While he may not always say what’s on his mind in regard to his own worries, he will never hesitate to let his partner know she is loved. Whether by light squeezes of the hand or sweet kisses, by taking care of household chores, or saying “I love you” outright, it is always apparent. His eyes are more focused than ever before in battle, as what he has to return to once he goes home is of dual importance, but during his free time, he stares ahead, longing to hold her again. He is attentive and affectionate during intimacy, his utter devotion driving him to satisfy them both. Even as time goes on, the passion and attraction never fades, but the loyalty, affection, and companionship stays ever strong. He owes her that, and so much more than he can ever hope to give.
