Take the Land - Do NOT Fear
Dear Family,
I have been hearing a particular Bible verse recently—so much so, that it has grabbed my attention. As we have entered into a New Year, it has become clear to me that this verse explains how God is leading RevelationMedia into 2023.
This verse is from Deuteronomy Chapter 1. The Lord God had instructed the Israelites to go into the hill country of the Amorites, Canaan, and possess the land. However, the people asked Moses to send 12 spies into the land first. When the spies returned, 10 of them were afraid and did not believe that they could stand against the might of the Amorites. Their fear spread through the entire camp of the Israelites, and the people—all except Joshua and Caleb—did not trust God.
But Moses had spoken God’s instructions in verse 21:
This verse, Deuteronomy 1:21, is the verse that has come to me multiple times. This morning, while I was pondering it, I realized there are many “giants” before us. There are many practical reasons why it would be prudent for us to retreat and to not “take the land.”
There are many practical reasons why it would be prudent for us to retreat and to not “take the land.”
Inflation is rampant, and many large Christian organizations are having a difficult time financially. At the same time, our culture and its ideology continues to fight against the message of the Gospel. In the coming years, God’s Word is increasingly going to be considered “hate speech.” The ministry of RevelationMedia has now been permanently banned from Facebook, and I am certain that more social media sites will follow.
In a meeting I had just this week with a colleague who owns a Christian animation studio, he told me that many of his clients—yes, Christian ministries—are adjusting their productions so as not to “offend” and be targeted. This is happening more and more.
Our support comes solely from you, our RevelationMedia family. When we look to take on a new project, we don’t initially have the funds in the bank or any guaranteed income projected to fund the project. When we expand our ministry outreach, we do so in faith and by faith alone.
Tumblr media
So, in many ways, I can understand looking at the obstacles in front of us and concluding “now is not the time to take on the giants and possess new lands.” But God has called us to a task we call “The Great Commission.” He has called us to reach every tribe and every people group. He has called us to reach all for Christ and to usher in His second coming! Now is not the time to retreat—now is the time to “take the land!”
Now is not the time to retreat—now is the time to “take the land!”
In the coming weeks and months, we will be sharing new ministry opportunities that God is bringing our way. These include undertaking new work in Ukraine, publishing more iBIBLE content around the world, and even launching an underground Christian publication in the Middle East!
This week at our headquarters in Richardson, TX, I wrote Deuteronomy 1:21 on a glass wall. It will become our theme for this year as we push forward and do not fear the social, financial, and other giants before us.
What giants are in the way of your taking the land God is leading you to take? Is fear holding you back, or is faith driving you forward? January is a great month for all of us to take inventory of our lives and what God is calling us to. Maybe write Deuteronomy 1:21 on a sticky note or on the bathroom mirror. Let it be a prayer for the new year.
“Our Father, please show us the land you would have us possess for Your kingdom. Help us not to fear and look at the obstacles but to trust and push onward for Christ!”
I know the new year will bring its challenges as we face the many giants this world throws at us, but we will strive to walk by faith and not fear. Thank you so much for taking this journey with us!

Where we’re going we won’t need Eyes to see - a teen wolf meta
Tumblr media
With Teen Wolf meta we have this tendency to name check Event Horizon (1997) and run off without explaining it - especially in regards to the episode “Ghosted” where they were in Canaan which uses a lot of the same techniques and tropes. But before I explain how Teen Wolf got there we have to explain Event Horizon.
A friend of mine once called Event Horizon the greatest horror movie almost made, and that sums it up nicely.
Following the success of Mortal Kombat [1995 starring Linden Ashby] the studio gave give the director Paul WS Anderson [the Resident Evil guy] a budget of 60 million dollars, the large soundstage at Pinewood and Carte Blanche to deliver an R rated horror. The film he delivered was 121 minutes long and X-rated. It was externally editted down to 91 minutes or 96 minutes depending on region and legend has it that most of the narrative exposition went out of the airlock. As gory as it is - and it IS - it was much much worse and it’s entirely possible that this studio inflicted hatchet job is the reason Event Horizon has the cult following that it does.
Anderson did not waste a dollar of the money he was given, everyone in the film is a noted character actor and most of the dialogue makes them feel real [with the exception of one distinct line which is just hilariously bad]. The ship was a set [there is minimal cg and it’s bad as you’d expect for 1997 but it’s things like a floating water bottle] based on actual gothic architecture specifically notre dame. The crew of the Lewis and Clark [the rescue ship] is seven people because they were meant to represent the seven sins - maybe in the longer version they did. The “stranger” in their midst is Doctor Weir, who following the suicide of his wife whilst he built the Event Horizon, became obsessed with the ship is the one who wants to bring it “home”. The shot of the rotating space station where Weir is based was a miniature. As most of the effects were practical, as opposed to CG, they stand up to modern scrutiny.
The film was a critical and commercial bust, but over the years since it’s release it’s been insanely influential on the field of Sci Fi being responsible for IPs such as Warhammer 40k, Deadspace and even the Alien franchise [which Anderson dipped his toe in with Alien vs Predator] and is considered one of the greatest Lovecraftian horrors ever made.
Event Horizon is not a great movie, it’s…. I’m one of the people who adore it, as scary movies go it never fails to make my skin crawl but let’s get into the plot.
The Event Horizon was an attempt at FTL travel, instead of going really fast it punched a hole through the universe creating a worm hole that would allow the ship to exit somewhere else with a device called “the gravity drive”. On its test flight it vanished. Seven years later it reappears where it should have with no crew and only a mild distress signal. Weir (Sam Neill), the original creator takes the crew of the Lewis and Clark, a rescue ship captained by Miller (Lawrence Fishburne), to bring it back.
On finding the ship the youngest member of the crew, Mr Justin (Jack Noseworthy), goes into the drive room in full EVA and is dragged into the black liquid at its heart. He is rescued by Cooper (Richard Jones), but when they confront Weir he denies it’s possible despite that they could not have known what to describe. Justin is comatose. They find a recording of screams which has a latin phrase which DJ (Jason Isaacs) translates as save me. The med tech Peters (Kathleen Quinlan) starts to see visions of her son covered in sores. Weir starts to see his dead wife as she was when he found her but with empty eye sockets. The ship starts to pull at their sanity damaging the Lewis and Clark, Smith (Sean Pertwee) refuses to leave the Lewis and Clark and in the middle of that Justin gets up and puts himself in the airlock, setting it to open.
All of the characters are shown to have a dark history but because of the editting we often don’t know what that is. We know Peters has left her terminally ill son because of her visions. Miller tells us about a crew member he had to leave to die in a burning ship. Weir has his guilt over his wife, but the rest was cut.
They find the ruins of the old crew with a tape showing them dismembering themselves and each other and it turns out the translation wasn’t save me but save yourself from hell. Fans have actually translated it more accurately as save yourself from the fire.
Miller comes to the conclusion the best thing to do is go home and blow the ship from orbit but Weir refuses to go. He takes one of the explosives from the nave hallway and blows up the Lewis and Clark and Smith, this sends Cooper into space [where he has the worst line in cinema, seriously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUozFOlxVnM] and Miller and Starck [Joely Richardson] confront Weir on the bridge where he has ripped out his own eyes. DJ is found disembowelled over the medicine table. Distracted by Cooper’s return Weir fires a rivet gun at the ship’s window causing the decompression to suck him into space. Miller tries to use the explosives along the nave corridor to separate the ship from the gravity drive which he considers the source of his evil but he is separated from his crew by a burning man who turns into Weir. They fight, the corridor explodes and Miller is sucked into the black hole.
There is a gotcha ending where Starck sees one of their rescuers as Weir but wakes up screaming before the very ominous door closing.
So what happens? what is the one sentence synopsis?
See that’s where Event Horizon sort of wins. On its surface the ship went to hell and became alive and is now luring people in and trying to drag them into Hell. Except even within the movie that explanation doesn’t make sense. The characters talk about the lack of good air, that they are running out of air and it turns them on each other to an extent so did anoxia cause the hallucinations combined with the very gothic imagery to create a mass hysteria? Is it a pseudo Catholic vision of Hell where the characters unable to deal with their own guilt at ultimately tortured? Maybe? Was it all of the above? I don’t know. Other people have amazing explanations of what happened and here’s the reason why Event Horizon freaks some people out and others are meh, it’s not that easy.
It has holes and contradictions and huge chunks obviously missing. It has a narrow focus and it never lies to the audience, it misleads them by assumption but it’s consistent. Weir is the hook character we expect to be the hero, he is the outsider amidst the crew of the Lewis and Clark, he is the one with the answers and the refusal to see alternative answers. He has the most fleshed out back story but he turns into the human manifestation of whatever is going on with the ship yet he is the one who becomes the face of the villain. The ghost apparitions are genuinely disturbing. The quality of the acting could carry a much weaker script. The effects are excellent and the gore is astounding, and best shown briefly [although production stills are available if it was too quick for you]. The Lovecraftian questions are presented and NOT answered. They are isolated in a place where they are in constant danger and the hallucinations mean even their thoughts are unsafe.
Did the ship go to hell? Or was it an explanation Weir made up when he broke? Or is this a purgatorial nightmare where Weir is sent out to fetch more victims for the ship? Is he repeating this ad infinitum with this crew or is it a new crew every time? Is the she Weir speaks of the ship or the manifestation of his wife, Clare?
The film doesn’t answer any of these questions. They are all valid ways to see the movie. And based on Anderson’s filmography the reason that these all DO work is because the film was butchered like one of the ship’s crew.
Recently they found a copy of the uncut film in a salt mine in Transylvania so maybe we’ll see it.
But people who take it on surface value that the ship went to hell and is now evil wooo, generally just dismiss it as poor. It is clearly a mishmash of things Anderson thought was cool instead of deep, sets are so Alien inspired that the xenomorph could pop out of any of the lockers and no one would be surprised. The ship’s set is so gothic Dracula could be drinking tea in the med bay and it would make perfect sense. Yet it somehow, probably despite itself, works.
So back to Teen Wolf.
Event Horizon clearly had its shadows over the production and it’s in the ambiguity more than the cinematography [which owes its debts to Silent Hill]. What Event Horizon managed by accident [Anderson couldn’t have pulled it off deliberately] Teen Wolf tries.
Every character in Teen Wolf, no matter how minor, has a backstory but it is not one we are necessarily given. They have their own stories which intersect with the story we are being told. If we look at the chimera, for example, we saw Tracy’s complicated relationship with her father, we saw Lucas and his boyfriend, Corey, and Corey before we knew he was a chimera told us about Lucas. Caitlyn’s girlfriend Emily was taken by the Darach but she was nervous about her first time having sex so Caitlyn tried to make it special for her. This makes the characterisation rich and this one of the complaints about the show. We learn as much about someone who gets murdered five minutes later as we do about the show’s mains. Beacon Hills feels real because the people in it feel real.
Teen Wolf offers a surface answer which does not hold up to scrutiny - at all -ever and which is often ridiculous. @Sublimeglass refers to this as the show vs tell, Teen Wolf tells us one story and shows us quite another. Solutions to problems are often best guesses with the information that they have and are often contradicted seasons later as characters learn more.
The main character is presumed to be the hero but by the end is very clearly the agent of whatever it is that is going on that wants conflict - however defining that very clear presence in Teen Wolf is like getting rid of glitter, you know it’s there but you’re never going to get it out of the carpet. There is clearly an evil presence, and it is clearly in the water, specifically the lake beside Lydia’s lake house [which Lorraine set up a mountain ash barrier to protect her from] but the character’s don’t know it’s there. I am not saying that Scott is evil or villainous in this - that’s a very different meta - but instead that he is continuing the war that existed before him. He is recruiting a character like him to carry on the story. He is repeating the cycle like Weir sacrificing another crew to the ship.
One of the arguments with EH is that the ship is freeing them from “the fire” which is light and energy, which is complicated, basically that our universe with its physical reactions is Hell, and that by removing the flesh [I did mention Hellraiser was a huge influence, right, and the video game Doom 3] you could be “free”, and there is a similar idea in Teen Wolf where characters try to escape the detriments of flesh - Gerard looking for a cure for his cancer, the dread doctors extending their life, the attempts to build a better beast for their own immortality, the leonmensch trying to capture the Wild Hunt.
Yet if you reduce Event Horizon to “the ship went to hell and is now evil” the two do not match but both are phantasmagorical.
Phantasmagoria is where one or more reality might not be real but is instead a dream/hallucination that is indistinguishable from reality, and thus brings the “reality” in question.
In Event Horizon this is several dream sequences, Weir and Starck both have nightmares whilst in stasis. This means when Clare starts appearing to Weir and the child appears to Peters we are primed to know they are not real and this knowledge means we’re primed for a scare even when the subject is not scary, such as Peter’s visions of her sick son.
In Teen Wolf we have several sequences that are not “real”: Scott’s visions of the school bus attack; Stiles’ visions of the bandaged figure; Scott’s dreams of killing Liam with the mute. Then we have sequences where reality is much more loosely defined in Motel California - where the characters hallucinate - and Ghosted which is the most obvious point for the Event Horizon characters.
We also have flashbacks which are subject to the “Rashomon effect” where several variations of the same narrative are shown and the whole is unreliable [the Fox and the Wolf, Blitzkreig and Visionary] What we are shown in Teen Wolf is only slightly more reliable than what we are told, and the telling is from Scott’s point of view - although it is unclear if it is only the last episode, the last season half or the whole show which is narrated. Personally I think it’s the whole. Either way Scott is an unreliable narrator. We cannot trust the narrative as it is presented even if it didn’t openly contradict itself.
The Lovecraftian parallels have to be mentioned even if when it comes to writing Teen Wolf meta I find him popping up like a particularly obnoxious infestation. Combined with that is the heavy influence of Hellraiser [3 metas later I am quite confident that Hellraiser was involved] and the whole is unsettling if not disturbing or scary.
The visual language of Event Horizon is medieval gothic, with columns, long empty corridors, flourishes and twists and the ship itself is a cross based on Notre Dame. In Teen Wolf colours have meaning, characters have symbolic associations [although unlike the intent for Event Horizon they do not represent anything as overt as the seven sins. They reveal the characters but not general themes.] Each of the first five seasons has a symbol which is represented by Godai, Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Void [if six has one I haven’t cracked it yet but it is probably the ethereal or the other] and the cinematography is certainly as deliberate.
I can’t just end this meta because it’s one of those as soon as you see the movie you can see the parallels because they’re pretty much laid out on a plate but the two are so different that unless you sit down and think about it you’d never consider it.
I can’t say that Beacon Hills is a phantasmagorical town that exists outside space and is poisoned by its proximity to Hell - but I can’t say it’s not either because of the ambiguity and contradiction. I can’t say Weir is a victim driven mad by his own guilt or the ship possessed him because of the same contradictions.
Event Horizon managed what it did despite itself. Teen Wolf might have done the same.

Biblia : The Byble that is, the Holy Scrypture of the Olde and New Testament : faythfully translated into Englyshe. Published  Zurich? : Freschauer?, 1535.
Most likely published in Zurich, this first complete translation of entire Bible in to English, known as the Coverdale Bible, was a touching gift to Australia from Nelson Richardson and his wife Helen, as is part of the Richardson Bible Collection in the Library’s Rare Books Collection.
During the First World War, one of the main Australian Army camps was located at Weymouth in Dorset. The Richardsons lived in a villa named Monte Video, across the road from the camp. They entertained many of the soldiers and officers including the army chaplain, Mr Pitt-Owen and they often showed the visitors their small collection of bibles and early printed manuscripts. This collection of 289 volumes  was donated to the Public Library of New South Wales in 1926 to honour the Australian troops who supported Britain in the First World War. ‘We have liked them and the Australians so much,’ Nelson Richardson wrote, ‘that it occurred to us that it would show in a small way our appreciation of the Australians and the noble way in which they have come forward to help us in this war, and all the sacrifices they have made, if we were to arrange that these bibles should eventually find a home in Australia.’
This Rare Books copy has a "Facsimile of the title to Coverdale's Bible belonging to the ... Marquis of Northampton ... in this copy a few unimportant small deficts are restored & the lower front corner which is wanting in the original is copied from another edition of the title ... Cotham, Bristol 1866". It is bound with wooden covers and has a metal clasp.
The oak covers were possibly made by Richardson. Our Rare Books copy includes a separate volume containing attachments which includes "The Bible 1535, Watermarks, Plate 9 and plate 12, nos. 1,2,3, 9, 10. Manuscript notes by Helen Richardson, 1926 and comparisons with other versions. Rare Books copy includes the bookplate "Nelson Moore Richardson and Helen Morewood Richardson Collection of Bibles Beqeathed 1926" and is signed Nelson M. Richardson.
Notes: "The seconde parte of the olde Testament", "The boke of Iob", "All the prophetes in Englishe", "Apocripha", and "The new testament" each have separate foliation. The Apocrypha begins new register, the rest recommence with multiple A's. Job has caption title, the rest have divisional title pages.A couple of copies have a map, with legend "The descripcion of the londe of promes, called Palestina, Canaan, or the holy londe", bound following the Pentateuch. It has not been established that this was intended to be issued with the book. Colophon reads: Prynted in the yeare of oure Lorde M.D.XXXV. and fynished the fourth daye of October.

COLLEGES:
Men’s tennis:
No. 1 seed William and Mary shut out No. 5 Drexel 4-0 to breeze into the Colonial Athletic Association tournament final. The Tribe will face third-seeded UNC Wilmington, which ousted tourney host Elon, the No. 2 seed, 4-1. …
Top-seeded Old Dominion (18-6), ranked 33rd nationally, shut out No. 4 seed Southern Mississippi 4-0 in Houston to reach the Conference USA tournament final against Florida Atlantic.
Women’s tennis:
Top-seeded William and Mary overcame a spirited challenge by No. 4 Elon on the Phoenix’s courts, winning 4-2 to advance to the CAA tournament final. Clara Tanielian won the clinching match 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 on line 3, capping a day in which all three sets of doubles went to a tiebreak at 6-all.
Seeking its 26th CAA crown and an NCAA tournament berth, the Tribe — ranked 41st nationally — will meet James Madison. The second-seeded Dukes turned back the College of Charleston 4-1. …
Third-seeded Old Dominion’s hopes of winning the Conference USA tournament on its home courts ended with a 4-1 loss to No. 2 Rice.
The Owls, who have won six straight conference championships and are ranked 43rd nationally, will face top-seeded Florida International at 10 a.m. Sunday at ODU for the title and an automatic NCAA tournament berth. FIU shut out Middle Tennessee State 4-0.
ODU, ranked 44th, likely will see its season end a few ranking spots short of an NCAA tournament berth.
Women’s golf:
In the first Capital Athletic Conference women’s golf championship tournament, Christopher Newport placed all five of its starters among the event’s top six and won by 141 strokes over second-place York (Pa.) in the 54-hole event in Cape Charles.
Freshman Erica Whitehouse won the individual title at 4 over par on Bay Creek’s Palmer Course. CNU shot 993 (129 over) to win against fellow first-year programs York and Southern Virginia. …
Hampton concluded its final Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship tournament with a 348 to place fifth.
Bethune-Cookman won at 18-over-par 306 at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. Jakari Harris paced Hampton with a 13-over-par 85 to tie for 11th place with a three-round total of 249.
Men’s golf:
Virginia junior Thomas Walsh shot 7-under 65 to bolt to the top of the leaderboard during the second round at the ACC Championships.
Walsh enters Sunday’s final round at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C., with a two-shot lead over teammate Danny Walker, who led after the opening round. Walsh’s 36-hole total stands at 12-under 132, while Walker, a senior, posted a 69 Saturday for a 134.
North Carolina’s Ben Griffin and Clemson’s Doc Redman, the 2017 U.S. Amateur champion, were tied for third place at 136.
Behind Walsh and Walker, Virginia was tied for fourth place with Duke at 14-under 562. The Cavaliers finished the second round at 10-under 278. Fifth-ranked Georgia Tech leads the 12-team field at 23-under 553, while No. 15 Clemson and Notre Dame were tied for second place at 17-under 559. …
CNU finished second by 24 strokes to Mary Washington at the CAC tournament in Cape Charles, ending the Captains’ four-year reign atop the conference. Chris Brugge led CNU by tying for third at 15-over-par 231, three strokes behind winner Sebastian Bonte of Mary Washington. …
Hampton concluded its final Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament with a 313 to finish in sixth place in the three-day tournament with a 973.
Augusta won at 3-under-par 281 for a three-day total of 861 at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. Arriek Douglas led the Pirates with a 4-over 75 Saturday to place 23rd at 234. …
The College of Charleston surged up the team leaderboard, shooting a collective 2-under on the day, but James Madison maintained a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the CAA championship tournament.
JMU was at 290-296-586, while the Cougars were at 301-286-587.
James Madison senior Matt Cowgill and Charleston sophomore Michael Sass were tied for the individual lead at 3-under on the par-72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
With one round left, W&M (310-304-614) was sixth among the nine teams.
Baseball:
CNU (29-7, 13-3 CAC), ranked ninth in Division III, won 13-2 at Penn State Harrisburg in Game 1 of a doubleheader but lost 6-5 to the Lions in Game 2.
CNU and Salisbury are tied atop the conference, with the Lions one game behind.
In the opener, the Captains set a school record by drawing 17 walks. Jordan Mason scored three runs and Nick DiNapoli drove in three. Mason and Brandon Ginch each had two hits, and Thomas Packert (7-0) pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win.
But in the second game, the Lions went ahead 6-0 off Logan Harrelson (3-2) and survived a five-run CNU seventh. Joseph Cutchins hit his first CNU home run, a two-run blast. …
Kyle Peterson drew a bases-loaded walk to break an eighth-inning tie, giving Northeastern (22-13, 8-3) a 4-3 victory over William and Mary (15-25, 3-11), the Huskies’ second straight win in their CAA series in Boston.
Zach Pearson’s two-run single for W&M had tied the score in the top of the eighth. He and Hunter Smith, who scored twice, each had two hits. …
Virginia’s Daniel Lynch and reliever Bennett Sousa shut down Louisville for the final six innings as the visiting Cavaliers (23-17, 8-12 ACC) rallied for a 5-4 win over the Cardinals (26-12, 12-10).
After Lynch — who grew up in Hampton — walked the first batter of the top of the eighth inning, Sousa struck out the side, stranding runners at first and third base. In the ninth, the left-hander struck out all three batters he faced to record a six-out save. He has fanned 48 batters in 33 1/3 innings this season.
Trailing 4-2, the Cavaliers sent eight batters to the plate in a three-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Cayman Richardson hit a two-run, two-out single that scored former Peninsula Pilot Charlie Cody and Devin Ortiz. Richardson scored the eventual winning run on a single up the middle by Andy Weber. …
Notre Dame edged Virginia Tech 8-7 in South Bend, Ind., leveling their series at a victory apiece.
Tech rallied to force extra innings. The Hokies scored two runs in the top of the 12th, only to see the Fighting Irish get three runs in the home half. Eric GIlgenbach hit a two-run walk-off single for Notre Dame.
Tech (17-22, 7-13 ACC) sent the game into extras with three runs in the ninth. Mike Fernandez singled home two, and with the bases loaded, Tom Stoffel’s sacrifice fly plated Fernandez with the tying run. …
Norfolk State split with Coppin State, winning 5-1 in Game 1 but seeing the Eagles take Game 2 7-4 in Hanover, Md.
Jonathan Mahoney pitched a three-hitter and Aaron Robinson homered for the Spartans in the opener. Robinson had three RBI in Game 2, but Coppin State (14-18-1, 13-3) increased its margin in the MEAC North over NSU (13-22, 10-7). …
Old Dominion’s Erik Stock went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI, but Charlotte used two late runs to pull out a 5-3 home victory.
After Charlotte (21-17, 9-8 Conference USA) scored a run in the first, Stock drilled a three-run home run off the left-field foul pole in the top of the third to give ODU (11-26, 4-13) the lead. The homer was Stock’s second of the season.
However, the 49ers scored a run in the third and another in the fourth, then took the lead with runs in the sixth and seventh. ODU starter Morgan Maguire took the loss. …
Senior right-hander Sean Thompson pitched 7 1/3 innings before George Mason got a hit off him as VCU (25-14, 9-5 Atlantic 10) beat the Patriots 6-4 at The Diamond.
New Kent High graduate Steven Carpenter had two hits and a walk for the Rams. George Mason, which won the series opener Friday, fell to 16-21, 7-4.
Softball:
CNU, ranked 11th nationally, finished the regular season on a nine-game winning streak with an 11-3, 6-5 doubleheader sweep of Frostburg State.
The Captains (30-6, 13-1) reached the 30-win mark for the 12th consecutive season as Liz Andrews’ grounder brought home Rachael Payne with the winning run in the ninth inning.
Payne, an All-American as a junior last season, enjoyed her Senior Day by going 7 for 9 for the day. She scored five times and drove in three runs for the Captains. Fellow senior Leah Andrews was 6 for 9 with four runs and two RBI. Freshman Patty Maye Ohanian, the winning pitcher in Game 1, was 4 for 7 with three runs and three RBI.
In Game 2, the Bobcats (18-14, 5-7) got a pinch-hit grand slam from Aliyah Ramey. …
Hampton split a MEAC doubleheader against Coppin State in Baltimore, winning 2-1 before losing 5-2.
In the opener, Danella Milloy’s RBI single in the fith put the Pirates ahead 2-1, and Allyson Babinsack struck out five to make the lead stand up.
In the second game, DaSha Hill tied HU’s single-season stolen-base record with 39 in the third inning and scored to put the Pirates ahead 2-1. Coppin went ahead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third. …
Virginia Wesleyan (37-1, 15-1), the nation’s top-ranked Division III team, pulled off a 5-3, 3-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference sweep at Bridgewater. The Marlins bounced back from their only loss of the season — Game 2 of a midweek doubleheader against No. 4 Randolph-Macon.
Men’s lacrosse:
On the same day it learned it gained the fourth and final seed for the ACC tournament in Charlottesville, No. 13-ranked Virginia (10-4) edged Vermont 10-9 with a storybrook finish.
Playing on the field of his alma mater, New Canaan (Conn.) High, the Cavaliers’ Michael Kraus scored the winning goal with 1:47 left. The Catamounts fell to 10-3. …
Division III No. 16 CNU (13-3, 6-2 CAC) posted a 20-3 rout at Wesley (3-12, 0-7) as Dylan Rice and Shane McKenna each netted four goals. Matthew Crist had three goals and three assists.
Women’s lacrosse:
No. 12 Virginia Tech celebrated its Senior Day in Lane Stadium with a 16-12 victory over No. 17 Virginia. It was just the Hokies’ second all-time win against the Cavaliers.
Paige Petty’s four goals paced the Hokies (12-5, 5-2), who have set program records for overall wins and ACC wins this year. Kasey Behr scored five for the Cavaliers (9-8, 4-3). …
CNU (9-8, 5-3 CAC) breezed to an 18-4 home win over Wesley (6-9, 1-7) as Catherine Leighty and Katie Orrison each scored hat tricks.
Men’s track and field:
During the New Captains Classic at CNU, the Captains’ Legend Hayes established a new school record in the discus. The senior unleashed a 53.42-meter heave, which topped Brendon Burrows’ previous standard of 50.81.
Burrows placed second Saturday at 51.90 meters, eclipsing his previous record. …
At the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, U.Va.’s 4×400-meter relay of freshman Jordan Willis — a former Jamestown High standout — freshman Alfred Shirley III of Chesapeake, freshman Brandon Outlaw and redshirt junior Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) won in 3:08.34. The season-best time ranks fifth in school history and is currently the second-fastest time in the ACC.
MINOR-LEAGUE BASEBALL:
International League:
Buffalo’s Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run home run in the top of the 11th inning, sending the Bisons to an 8-6 victory over Norfolk at Harbor Park, snapping the Tides’ three-game winning streak.
The game was scoreless headed to the eighth, but the teams combined for 14 runs on 14 hits over the final four innings.
Buffalo scored three eighth-inning runs, but Norfolk answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Bisons added a run in the ninth to take a 4-2 lead, but Norfolk center fielder Joey Rickard knotted the score at 4 with a two-out, two-strike, two-run double off the left-field wall.
The Bisons retook the lead in the 10th inning as Danny Espinosa plated Anthony Alford — who had started the inning on second base via tiebreaking rules — with a double down the left-field line. The Tides answered back again, though, as Andrew Susac plated Alex Presley with a one-out single.
In the 11th, Sweeney knocked a pitch by Matt Wotherspoon (1-1) over the fence for a 7-5 lead. Buffalo, Toronto’s top farm club, added a run on a throwing error.
Norfolk threatened in the bottom of the 11th, as Engelb Vielma scored Garabez Rosa with a two-out single. Luis Santos got Presley to pop up to short, completing the game.
Norfolk got an excellent start from Jimmy Yacabonis, who limited the Bisons to two hits over five shutout innings.
Eastern League:
The Altoona Curve (8-6) evened its series with Richmond at a win apiece, beating the Flying Squirrels 7-6 in Pennsylvania. Jason Martin was 3 for 4, scored three runs and drove in two for Pittsburgh’s Double-A affiliate.
The Squirrels (11-5) lost despite home runs by Matt Lipka, Dillon Dobson and Jerry Sands.

4 Frank Lloyd Wright Homes for Sale (and They’re Awesome)
It’s the 150th birthday anniversary of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and some of his architectural pieces of history are up for sale. We get to do a virtual open house and peak inside four Frank Lloyd Wright homes for sale.
All of Wright’s homes were designed using his theory of “organic architecture.” He wanted his homes to strike the harmonious balance between architecture and nature. The best example of his work is Fallingwater, built in 1935.
Fallingwater, Wright’s most famous architectural masterpiece. Image: Fallingwater
You can pick up one of his properties if you’ve got at least $1 million to spare. Here are four Frank Lloyd Wright homes for sale right now:
1. Stuart Richardson Residence | New Jersey
The home is designed to be hexagonal both inside and out. Image: The Robin Seidon Team
The living room is framed by 15 glass doors. Image: The Robin Seidon Team
This is the most affordable of the bunch. The 1,800 square foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bath home is listed at $995,000. It’s one of just a few of his hexagonal homes. Built in 1951, all the walls inside are angled at 60 and 120 degrees.
2. Sherman Booth House | Illinois
Three stories tall with a rooftop deck. Image: Chicago Business
Lots of glass and windows to enjoy the beautiful garden views. Image: Chicago Business
This one’s located in East Glencoe, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Built in 1916 for Wright’s attorney, it’s Prairie School in design and three stories high with a rooftop deck. This 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom home is listed for $1.9 million. The gardens are beautifully landscaped.
3. Paul and Helen Olfelt Residence | Minnesota

All the furniture is original and designed by Wright. Image: Coldwell Banker
Located in Saint Louis Park and listed at $1.295 million, this one is a gem. It’s the first time it’s been listed since it was built in 1958 and comes with all original fixtures and furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s a 3-bedroom, 2-bath, 2,647 square feet home set on nearly 4 private acres that feel like you’re in the countryside. But you’re minutes from downtown Minneapolis.
4. Tirranna | Connecticut
Beautiful property in New Canaan, CT. Image: Houlihan Lawrence
The expansive living room space. Image: Houlihan Lawrence
This is the priciest of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes for sale, but it sits above a waterfall! “Tirranna” is the Aboriginal word for “running waters.” The home is set in 15 acres of New Canaan woodland. It features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and is listed for $7.2 million. The U-shaped design with glass walls showcasees the stunning gardens, all created by Frank Okamura, landscape architect for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Tumblr media
youtube
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
youtube
Jason Richardson
youtube

This Rare Books copy has a “Facsimile of the title to Coverdale’s Bible belonging to the … Marquis of Northampton … in this copy a few unimportant small deficts are restored & the lower front corner which is wanting in the original is copied from another edition of the title … Cotham, Bristol 1866”. It is bound with wooden covers and has a metal clasp.
The oak covers were possibly made by Richardson.
