WrestleMania 35
Tumblr media
As of this writing, WrestleMania 36 is set to air in two days, and due to the fallout from the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, will be airing taped from an empty arena a couple weeks prior, and over two nights. I have been advocating for two night ‘Manias since the WWE Network era of PPVs have caused WrestleManias having bloated cards and lasting nearly SEVEN hours when factoring in the pre-show matches. Since it is WrestleMania week, I am here to continue my annual tradition of watching the previous year’s installment on BluRay and break it all down here. I broke up watching the nine-ish hours of BluRay content over a few days, which lead for a more non-overkill experience, and I ended up enjoying the overall show exponentially more this way as you will soon read on. Now even though the BluRay has around nine hours of content on the disc, the cumulative total of content the BluRay unlocked for me was about 12 hours by including a digital copy of not only the PPV, but also a digital only copy of the Hall of Fame ceremony that preceded WrestleMania a couple days prior. For the second straight WrestleMania BluRay, the Hall of Fame is not included on the disc, and is instead replaced with the following night’s RAW in its entirety, which here is just over two hours when taking out all the ad breaks.
Tumblr media
The Hall of Fame ceremony this year saw Jerry Lawler replaced as the host with Corey Graves & Renee Young, complete with grimace-caliber jokes of the stereotypical award show variety. The 2019 ceremony also saw a different setup with a ring in the center of the arena where all the speeches were delivered, and while it provided a nice visual, it also made it easier for an overzealous fan to run in and attack cancer and stroke survivor, Bret Hart during his speech. I recall getting the faintest look at the guy before cameras cut away and at first thinking because of the goofy hair that it was Enzo again up to shenanigans a few months after dancing in the front rows of the crowd at Survivor Series, but was then further perplexed to find out minutes later that Enzo and Cass did a worked shoot run-in at the G1 Supercard concurrently taking place. It turned out it was a fan with mental health issues, and obviously WWE cut out the run-in on the final Hall of Fame video cut, and the only thing apparent of something happening is that after a cut to the crowd, Bret Hart’s hair is suddenly tangled up. If you have not witnessed that brazen fan run-in, click or press here for fan-phone footage of proceeding to get pounced by countless wrestlers almost instantly. Bizarre fan attack aside, it was a much brisker ceremony (only three and a half hours!) thanks in part to no Hillbilly Jim speech this year (which was deservingly poked at this year), and a couple inductees not having inductions either, and the ones that did must have had strict time limits because I do not recall an inductor going longer than five minutes. Honkey Tonk Man set the stage with the fun-gimmick from the Rock ‘n Wrestling years, with a groovy entrance and exit, complete by singing his song on the way out and doing a noticeably better performance than Double J the year prior. Torrie Wilson’s speech felt more of a Ted Talk, but still heartwarming and inspirational and I will give her all the benefit of the doubt considering her father and former on-screen talent and Dawn Marie love interest, Al Wilson passed away two days prior. Also pleasant was seeing Stacy Kiebler break her 13-year WWE absence by inducting her.
Tumblr media
The legacy class of 2019 had another ten inductees with brief 20-30 second video pieces on each. Most of them are more classic pre-cable TV era wrestlers, but some are more recently noteworthy and remembered like SD Jones, Bruiser Brody and Luna Vachon and in my opinion more deserving of traditional inductions. I hope if WWE keeps this up they will at least have a family member do a separate video induction and include it on their website for a more proper way to remember these legacy stars. The Hart Foundation was the next inductee, with Natalya accepting for her father, The Anvil. Bret and Naddie gave the successful Rock ‘n Wrestling era tag team a fitting induction, filled with classic stories from their days in one of the most successful periods of tag teams in WWE history. Brutus Beefcake gave a surprisingly good speech for his induction, as did the Hulkster for inducting him as he laid out how he broke Brutus into the business. Kind of surprising it happened considering the recent disparaging comments between the two with Brutus’s tell-all biography from a couple years earlier, but maybe it ‘was all a work brother!’ Props to Brutus for giving the Doctors who saved him from his terrible parasailing accident their kudos, and for calling out Shawn Michaels for still owing him for his barbershop window! The Warrior Award went to Sue Ajtheson, a backstage WWE official who is largely responsible for their Make-a-Wish efforts. Dana Warrior and John Cena gave heartfelt, genuine inductions for her, and Sue was a gem enlightening us about her philanthropic accomplishments.
Tumblr media
Harlem Heat got inducted next, and after Booker T gave his brother Stevie Ray an outstanding tribute, it was then time for Stevie Ray sharing several stories of the trials of Harlem Heat breaking in before they finally found success in WCW. D-Generation X headlined the Hall of Fame, and as expected it was lengthy with X-Pac, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, Shawn Michaels and Triple H all giving speeches. They unleashed some vintage DX humor to start off with. Other highlights include giving Chyna her proper acknowledgement, Billy Gunn getting razzed for being with the new competition in AEW, X-Pac getting super jittery in his sea of notes and all of them busting out Super Soakers and dousing their colleagues in the crowd, especially Baron Corbin. Now onto the 16 match WrestleMania 35 card (guys….I am sorry, thank you so much for sticking with me!). If you have yet to watch WrestleMania 35 then before reading this recap, I recommend breaking it up into a two part watch, and give this strong recommendation of preferred matches for each night to make for a better experience that I guarantee you will not struggle to stay awake through: WrestleMania 35 – Day 1 Watch Order: Tony Nese vs Buddy Murphy, WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar, SmackDown Tag Titles Fatal Four Way, Miz vs. Shane McMahon, Triple H vs. Batista, Elias/John Cena ‘Concert’, Finn Balor vs. Bobby Lashley, Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan WrestleMania 35 – Day 2 Watch Order: Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins vs. Revival, Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton, Women’s Tag Titles Fatal Four Way, Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre, Samoa Joe vs. Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin, Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch Four of those matches were on the pre-show and are included on the BluRay as extras. In a rare move, WWE had the local have a feel good moment with Tony Nese winning the Cruiserweight Title from Buddy Murphy in a nice hybrid of strong style and high-flying that got the crowd hot by the end. In the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, Carmella played the surprise last second sneak-in card to eliminate Sarah Logan and win the ‘prestigious’ hip/leg trophy. In a surprising second feel good hometown hero story, Curt Hawkins snapped his 269 match losing streak when him and his fellow bro-ski, Zack Ryder won the RAW tag titles from The Revival when Hawkins got the surprise inside cradle for the electric pop! In the final pre-show match, Braun Strowman won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal by eliminating celebrity entrants, SNL’s Colin Jost & Michael Che. A lot of hype on RAW built up the SNL stars, but the two hid under the ring until the end of the match in their failed efforts to surprise eliminate Braun.
Tumblr media
In the official WrestleMania opener, Seth Rollins won the Universal Title from Brock Lesnar. Their follow-up match at SummerSlam is leagues better, because all there is to this is Brock getting an early attack on Seth and brutalizing him outside the ring for a few minutes, and then only a couple minutes into the actual match Seth low blows Brock and hits a few stomps for the victory. Last few years something about Randy Orton has made his stock rise higher for me. I appreciate his ring IQ and psychology that allows matches to breathe, and Orton’s skills blended perfectly with AJ Styles with some convincing sequences before Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm for the win. The first of two four way tag title matches occurred next with the Usos, The Bar, Rusev & Shinske Nakamura and Aleistar Black & Ricochet vying for the SmackDown straps. All four teams brought it, and did not appear they were there for an easy payday with the creative spots they unleashed with an innovative tower of doom spot and Cesaro’s countless swings to the crowd’s approval until the Usos hit their double top turnbuckle splash on Sheamus for the W. I loved the buildup for The Miz and Shane McMahon’s Falls Count Anywhere match. Miz gradually won over Shane’s trust all in the name to win his dad’s precious approval, only to then see Shane turn on Miz and attack Miz’s dad! I was not disappointed with how they got Miz’s dad involved in the match with Shane shaming Miz’s dad’s ability to fight. The two had a pretty solid brawl all over the arena that ultimately saw Miz deliver a suplex from the tech area scaffolding onto a crash pad, but saw Shane conveniently laid out barely over Miz to nudge out a three count for the fluke upset. The newly established Women’s tag titles were on the line with Sasha Banks & Bayley defending against the Iconics, Nia Jax & Tamina and Natalya & Beth Phoenix. A lot of controversy was reported on the champs throwing a tantrum backstage hearing they were losing the titles, which happened when Billie Kay stole a pin with a blind tag on Beth Phoenix after she hit a top rope Glam Slam. Minus a handful of moments, Sasha and Bayley’s main roster runs have been beyond disastrous compared to their rise up the ranks in NXT.
Tumblr media
‘KofiMania’ emerged when Kofi Kingston vanquished that vile do-gooder, Daniel Bryan to become the first full blooded African American to win the WWE title in its near 60 year history. There were a couple of extended hold sequences in the front half that overstayed their welcome, but the back half amped up big time with some creative reversals, near-falls and clever use of the New Day and Erik Rowan on the outside. I was just as happy as the WWE locker room shown celebrating for Kofi after he hit the Trouble in Paradise to win the championship. He had a killer half year run as champ….until Brock Lesnar waffled him in seven seconds for the gold and Kofi immediately went right back to the midcard in his happy-go-lucky pancake thrower days of yore and acted like his championship run never happened. Samoa Joe finally got his overdue WrestleMania debut match against a recently returned Rey Mysterio. I presumed the two had an epic match lined up, but Rey got hurt the RAW before and was only capable of performing for about a minute before Joe locked in his trademark Kokina Clutch for the submission victory. Roman Reigns was up next in his first singles match coming back after overcoming a second bout of Leukemia for the heartwarming win against Drew McIntyre. I recall dreading the buildup for this because Drew had a variety of ‘you may have conquered cancer…’ type promos and hyped himself up as deadlier than cancer, when naturally everyone knew Roman was going to win, and that is exactly what we got in a formula Roman match. The read in the ardent fan crowd throughout the match was readily apparent, they were no longer booing Roman out of the building like they normally would, because what kind of person can boo a cancer survivor (please do not answer that)? However, there was no overwhelming crowd going wild reaction either, but more of a tempered, altruistic applause instead. That has primarily been Roman’s reception for coming back since, and that is kind of how I feel too.
Tumblr media
Elias performed a one man ‘concert’ next complete with other hologram Elias projections playing in conjunction with him until John Cena interrupted. John came out in throwback Dr. Thugganomics form and laid down some rhymes before hitting a F-U to the crowd’s approval. The presumption going in by most was that Undertaker would make his requisite WrestleMania appearance here, but 2019 marked the first time since 2000 that Undertaker did not appear or wrestle in any form on a WrestleMania. Strangely enough, Undertaker did interrupt another Elias performance the next day on RAW. Triple H and Batista squared off in a No Holds Barred brawl next, and I recall being burnt out by this point in the card and nodding off throughout it. Match held up incredibly better on second viewing with the two busting out a wide variety of weaponry in too many gruesome spots to dissect, other than that grotesque nose ring spot that reverberated throughout everyone in the crowd. The finish saw Triple H hitting probably the slickest looking sledgehammer shot ever with some added trajectory by leaping off the stairs, and following it up with the Pedigree for the pin. Kurt Angle hit the end of the line in a few months of ‘farewell tour’ matches against Baron Corbin here. I was worried for Angle as his previous few matches saw him struggling to go through the motions, but a few weeks of added rest benefitted him here with him looking remarkably better and capable of several of his vintage suplexes and throws, and even busting out an impressive moonsault….that missed and lead him walking into an End of Days that netted Corbin the pinfall. Finn Balor faced Bobby Lashley in the penultimate match of the night, and the two delivered a short, but high energy match to help inject some energy into the understandably deflated crown by this point. Balor hit his Coup de Gras for the pin.
Tumblr media
The 16th and final match of the night saw the women headline WrestleMania for the first time ever with the Women’s titles for both RAW and SmackDown on the line in a triple threat between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. All three laid it in strong style in easily one of the hardest hitting women matches I have ever seen. All three were decorated with battle scars, especially Ronda’s leg! However, one significant botch tarnished the match, and unfortunately it happened right at the finish when Lynch countered Rousey’s Piper’s Pit slam with a crucifix for the pin. Rousey inadvertently popped her shoulder up during the pin, and the ref did not restart his count and continued with the controversial three count. Even the announcers did not turn a blind eye to it and questioned the ref’s call, and it turned out the ref was later fined for blowing the call. I am not going to recap the following night’s RAW, but I did watch it and will give a couple key takeaways since the RAW after WrestleManias are notorious for returns, and unpredictable fan reactions suffering from wrestling burnout. Rollins and Kofi teased a winner takes all title match, but it quickly morphed into a tag match after The Bar interfered to the crowd’s rightful disgust! The controversial Lars Sullivan debuted on the main roster, Sami Zayn returned and turned heel after nearly a year away from double rotator cuff surgery. Dana Brooke and Mojo Rawley both deliver bizarre backstage promos. There was the aforementioned Undertaker attack on Elias and finally Dean Ambrose’s final televised WWE match that did not officially get started because he brawled outside the ring with Bobby Lashley before getting sent through a table. There is one last BluRay bonus that has footage from after RAW went off the air, where Rollins called out Roman and Dean and brought them to the ring for one last curtain call from The Shield.
Tumblr media
That puts a wrap on the yearly monstrous WrestleMania recap. Once again I give my heartfelt gratitude for sticking with me the whole way through this. It was a chore to get through the whole show live in one shot, but it definitely helped spacing it over a few days this second time around. Again, if there is any upside with WWE having to switch up their WrestleMania plans with the global pandemic currently happening, it is that them having WrestleMania transpire over two days will make it vastly more watchable, and decrease the burnout of trying to watch wrestling for seven hours straight. Throw in the wild cards of the empty arena and undisclosed filming locations for the gimmick matches, and well….check back with me here next year to see how it all played out.

Work For It
Sheamus x Reader
Requested by @xfirespritex
Sheamus meets (Y/N) at an open tryout for WWE and he is really interested but doesn’t make a move or anything. He can’t stop thinking about her. One day he goes to the PC and she’s working out there, because she was given a developmental contract in NXT.
(A/N): This is almost 2k! Damn. Please, let me know what you think. Leave comments, constructive criticism, or more ideas or even if you another part, on my inbox. I’ll definitely appreciate it. I hope you enjoy this fic. If you want to get tagged let me know. (I just deleted this ugh so I have to repost it...)

With a duffel bag resting on his pale shoulder and the hot Floridian sun beating down on his back, Sheamus made his way to the entrance of the Performance Center. He stopped in his tracks once his eyes landed on you.
Sheamus didn’t recognize you, so you surely were at the PC for the open tryout, and you were… stunning. At least for him, you were.
For a few seconds, he studied you.
You stood there, with your dark brown hair tight in a ponytail, completely caught up in a conversation with another woman. Your big brown eyes sparkled as you laughed at something the woman said.
You were definitely something special, Sheamus thought. He couldn’t quite come up with a specific explanation as to how or why he was completely drawn to this woman… only that he was.
Suddenly, your gaze moved, landing on him, and your eyes met. Sheamus felt like a deer in headlights. He quickly averted his gaze and walked towards the locker room, feeling his face blush.
You shrugged it off. Slightly. Because it somehow caused a twisted feeling on your stomach.
You know Sheamus. Well, not personally, you just know the character he plays. And you love it. Still, you were always curious to know how he is behind the spotlight and the cameras.
You’re very attracted to the man, physically. Not the persona, but the man behind it. The way he wore his hair, down and natural, as it was just now… his beard… the way he just is a simple and laidback guy, wearing comfy clothes and laying low. Yeah, he was your type.
You snap out of your thoughts, suddenly realizing you’ve completely zoned out of the conversation for a couple of seconds.
----
The tryout had gone out pretty well. After the individual presentations, the group was distributed through some of the WWE wrestlers. You and three other girls ended up with Cesaro. So currently, you were just doing a small briefing with him and the girls.
When you’re done, you and Cesaro walk down to the locker room together, the other girls staying behind you, chatting. The walk was quiet, and you were slightly lost in thought. But suddenly, Cesaro’s voice snap you out of it.
“(Y/N), hello? Hey? You in there?” He snaps his long fingers in front of your face, chuckling. You finally face him, your cheeks tinted with a slight blush, worsening when you notice Sheamus standing beside him. “Now that you’re back on Earth, as I was saying, (Y/N), this is Sheamus. Sheamus, this is (Y/N).”
There’s a few seconds of awkward silence. You and Sheamus are both blushing, fidgeting nervously, as Cesaro looks between the both of you, wondering what the hell is going on.
“Uh, it’s nice to meet you… (Y/N).” Sheamus finally says, his voice rougher than what you were used to from TV, and Jesus Christ, the way he said your name… his goddamn accent.
Your heart is beating madly in your chest, and you could swear your legs turned to jelly.
“I- Hm, it’s nice to meet you too.” You mumble, feeling your face hot as a tomato.
The awkward silence turned into uncomfortable, and Cesaro really didn’t understand what was going on, but he definitely intended on asking Sheamus about it.
“Oookay.” Cesaro exhales deeply. “We’ll talk soon, (Y/N). See ya.”
“See ya.” You reply, swallowing the lump in your throat. Your gaze locked with Sheamus’ briefly, before they head to the locker room, leaving you in the middle of the hall, heart and mind racing, watching them walk away.
----
Fifteen minutes later, in the men’s locker room…
“Man, what the hell was that all about?” Cesaro shoots, as Sheamus dried himself off, after taking a shower.
Sheamus stops his motions to face him. “That what?” He shrugs it off.
“You know what. Don’t play dumb.”
“I’m not playing dumb. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Cesaro looks at him, well-knowingly that he’s hiding something from him. “Ok, fine. I guess you’ll tell me about her when you’re ready.”
Sheamus briefly glances at Cesaro, but didn’t say anything else.
A month after that day, Cesaro was definitely proven right. As he knew he would.
“I knew it. I so knew it.”
“Stop, man.” Sheamus pleads, maintaining his attention on packing his suitcase.
“Nope. Not until you tell me all about it.” He grins, sitting at the bottom of the bed, looking down at Sheamus, who’s sitting at the carpet, packing his stuff.
“There’s nothing to tell, brother… I just liked her.” He shrugs, taking a second to look at Cesaro.
“Pfff… you just liked her? Really? That’s all you’re going to say?” Cesaro shakes his head in disbelief. “Man, I know what I saw. You were nervous as fuck back then, all blushing… You didn’t just like her.”
“Gah, Jesus Christ! I don’t know either, man!” Sheamus shoots, finally placing his whole attention on the conversation. “I just saw her and… I don’t know. There was something about her. I can’t explain… I just feel it. And I can’t stop thinking about her.”
“That’s so romantic.” Cesaro smiles widely, in a lovey-dovey manner.
“See? This is why I didn’t want to tell you.” Sheamus scoffs, both sad and angry.
“I was kidding, man… I think that was a sign. Stuff happens for a reason. Fate. Destiny.” He says, standing up and patting his back. “You should ask her out. See where it goes.”
“That’s if she wants anything to do with me… I mean, she’s like what… 30? And I’m close to be an old fucker…” He mumbles, as Cesaro frowns after hearing his buddy putting himself down this way. “She deserves better. She probably wants better.”
“Are you fucking stupid, man? Didn’t you see that she looked exactly like you did when you two met? Jeez, you gotta be blind.”
“Don’t bother… I’m not going to see her again anyway, so…”
“I wouldn’t be so sure.” Cesaro mutters, but Sheamus catches up on what he says.
“What do you mean?”
“Uh, nothing. Just talking to myself.”
Sheamus was still suspicious with what his friend had said, but decided to ignore it. He knows that the odds of running into you again are very low.
----
It’s been two months since your awkward encounter. During this time, you’ve gotten yourself a brand new WWE contract, and you couldn’t be happier. It’s a developmental contract in NXT, so you spent a lot of time working out and training at the PC lately.
Not many people know yet. You only told your family, Cesaro, and a couple of friends from the roster. You didn’t want to make a big buzz about it. You’re still in training and working on your character, so you want to work your ass off and let things flow. That way, when you debut, it’ll be a complete surprise.
Today, you thought it would just another day in the PC. But soon after arriving, you were proven wrong.
You’re doing some weights when you start feeling observed. So you stop your motions, and look behind you.
Only to find Sheamus in the exact same spot, with the exact same look on his face, just like two months ago. Surprisingly though, after a couple of seconds, and after an awkward stare down, he walks up to you.
“What are you doing here?” He asks somewhat nervously.
“Uh… hello to you too.” You mumble, gazing down at your feet. “I’m working out…”
“Yeah, I noticed… but why here?” You can tell he had absolutely no clue you’d be here. He looks distressed, nervous, but a lot surprised too. Maybe he secretly hates you. It sure does look like it.
“I, uh… I got a developmental contract, so yeah, I’m working out here.”
“Wait, you were hired?”
“Yep.”
“That son of a bitch…” He mutters, thinking about Cesaro and how he never mentioned you getting a contract, and also how he tricked him into going to the PC because it’d be  a ‘calmer place’. Unfortunately, you can’t quite figure out what he said. “Well, congratulations.” He adds, simply.
“Thanks…” You sigh. Then, you try to contain yourself but you just couldn’t. “I’m sorry if I bother you. You don’t have to put up with me. I’ll just stay over here, quiet in my corner.”
Sheamus mentally punched himself in the face a thousand times when those words left your lips.
“You don’t bother me. I mean, you do. But not bother bother, you know. Well, uh, I-” He’s rambling, but stops for a few seconds to gather his thoughts when he sees your brows furrowed in confusion. “You do bother me, but in a different way… a good one.”
“Is there a good way to bother someone?”
For the first time, he looked at you right in the eye.
You honestly don’t know how long you stood there just looking at each other… just taking each other in properly. It’s Sheamus’ voice in a smooth, gentle tone that snaps you out of it.
“Shit, she really is beautiful.” He whispers, but you knew you weren’t meant to hear it.
“W-what?”
“Fuck. I said that shit out loud, didn’t I?” You nod, as you notice the blush creeping up his cheeks. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I mean, you are beautiful. At least I think you are beautiful. I just didn’t mean to say it out loud, you know, because it’s probably creepy that I just said that to you and-“
“Hey, stop.” You place the palm of your hand over chest as you speak. “It’s ok.” He somehow looked more relaxed after that small gesture. “I appreciated it, thank you. And for the record, I think you’re beautiful too.”
“Ha, beautiful. That’s the first time I’m hearing that one. Well, second, but my mom doesn’t count.” He jokes, followed by a genuine, light chuckle.
“Maybe you haven’t heard it, but it’s still true.” You smile gently, watching as his face grew serious. He looked intently at you, as if studying you, your features.
“Would you like to… I don’t know, grab some coffee with me?” He offers, scratching the back of his neck, nervously. “Only if you want, of course. It’s okay if you don’t want to, I understand, it’s-“
“I’d love to.” You cut his rambles off once again, smiling widely.
“Really?” His face was still serious, and it genuinely broke your heart to see that he actually doubted that you’d agree to go out with him so easily.
“Really. I’d absolutely love it.”
“Ok, then… we’re set.”
“I’ll give you my number, so we can arrange the time and place.”
The smile on his face is so genuine and wide, it made your heart flutter in your chest. You watched as he typed his number down on your phone. He looked lighter, happier. You don’t know why, but something about him told you that this man would be a very big part of your life.
You texted Sheamus that night, you just couldn’t stop yourself. And he replied. So sweetly.
It’s been almost a month since that day, and you’ve texted back and forth every day, and about everything. You’ve became really close. But that coffee date hasn’t happened yet.
But tonight... tonight, the text you were longing for, finally arrives.
“Tomorrow, coffee? I’ll pick you up at 8.”
PART 2???? Also, wanna get tagged? Let me know.

NXT Takeover:Philadelphia and Royal Rumble 2018 Review
Well it looks like i’m back..and i’ll be back for more review (or other stuff when i feel like i need to write about something) So let’s not waste time and see how Takeover:Philadelphia and the Rumble went
NXT Takeover Philadelphia:
NXT Tag Team Championship: Authors of Pain vs Undisputed Era:
Personally I would have never opened the show with this bout, because I wasn't expecting anything from it and because it wasn't the right match to start things off. They could have swapped this with Ohno-Dream and have a better opener. Sluggish and slow match even tho some spots were good, AOP keep getting better and better while Fish and O'Reilly probably are the best tag team in WWE right now with the Usos. Weird finish because I though Undisputed Era would go over but not like this and with like this I mean in a clean way. Main roster is closing in for Paul Ellering's Boys and SAnitY is waiting for the two Brits.[**1/2] Kassius Ohno vs The Velveteen Dream:
Another really solid Match for Velveteen dream who is someone still a bit green on the ring, while ohno is a 19 year old veteran who could make a good match even with a ladder. Velveteen dream is probably the best character right now at NXT and it's really working well because you can notice how much they are investing in Him and in his character. The match and a few botches here and there but honestly they didn't ruin the match at all. Good win for the former Tough Enough Participant who is destined to do great things on NXT.[***]                             NXT Women's Championship: Ember Moon vs Shayna Baszler:
Easily the worst match of the night. Slow, sluggish, not well booked and the result wasn't the one I was looking for, because I thought they wanted to have Shayna destroy and conquer anyone on NXT after the good performance for the MYC but she lost with a schoolboy and Ember kept the title. I like how they want to build Ember as a character but at the same time I still think she won't keep the title for a Long time(Kairi is waiting) [**]
Extreme Rules: Adam Cole vs Aleister Black:
I had a good hype for this match because i thought it could possibily steal the show but it only kinda did. Not a fan of the first minutes of it but it picked up the rythm and both guys went in hard and showed us a couple of really good spots, like the doubles knees on the announcers table or the death valley driver on the back of the chair. O'reilly and Fish Interference was predictable while i wasn't expecting Sanity to Help Black during the match. Black got the win and now he's probably the new #1 contender for the NXT Title at the WrestleMania weekend Takeover, unless they have other plans for the main event. Easily the second best match of the night [***1/2]
NXT Championship: Johnny Gargano vs Andrade Cien Almas:
Let's start that you HAVE to watch this match, because if you don't, probably you're not a real wrestling fan (unless you don't have time to watch it and probably you've got something better to do). Personally this is what i want from any match that goes last in a wrestling event card. It was really perfect: it had a good storyline, good wrestling, good timing and it wasn't predictable at all, because at times i thought both could won the match. Gargano is probably one of the best worker in the business and Almas is litteraly very underrated by the fans and i'm so glad they gave him the NXT Title. I also loved how they involved Candice LeRae, Johnny's wife, in the match so he could help his husband to preveil Zelina (really love her character) from interfereinging in the match. Almas picks up the win with a perfect Hanging Hammerlock DDT from the top rope. I was expecting Ciampa to interfere in the match but his return happened at the end of the match, and even tho it makes a lot of sense for him to ruin his ex partner moment, i personally didn't like how he returned, only because they could have done so much more and make it better, but still i can't wait for the ex D.I.Y Showdown, while Almas will probably face Black soon for the title. Five Star and MOTY Candidate.[*****]
Takeover Event: It Wasn't the best TakeOver event i ever saw, but it wasn't the worst, because we had a solid match between Dream and Ohno, a good extreme rules and a perfect main event. The Tag Team Match and the women's title match felt very average but not as bad as some matches we see on the main roster. The Next Takeover could be huge with some potential match and the new addictions of Ricochet, War Machine and my man EC3. [7]
Royal Rumble:
WWE Championship Handicap match: AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn&Kevin Owens:
They decided to open the show with the WWE Title Match, which in my honest opinion, wasn't a good choice, because while watching it i felt that it wasn't the right match to hype the crowd after a pretty boring 2 hours pre-show(which i won't cover because i honestly don't have much to say about it). The Match was fine but i didn't liked how it was booked, because the finish clearly made Zayn and Owens look really stupid, but to be honest it's not the first time they make heels look very stupid (it won't be the first time i say this in the review). Styles got the W with a Roll-up to end a match who started really flat and started getting better in the last minutes but the finish killed the momentum of the match. [***]
2 out of 3 Falls SD Live Tag Team Championship: Usos vs Shelton Benjamin&Chad Gable:
This match or the Raw Tag Team Title Match could have been the opener and it would have been a better choice based on the kind of match these two team put on. The match was really fun untill the first finish, which personally felt really weird because usually in this kind of matches, heels get the first fall, the babyface get the second one and the decider goes either  to one of them based on the storyline they are telling. In this case, Gable and Benjamin tried to be smart but instead they looked really stupid because Benjamin ate the decisive pin after a roll up, who killed a really solid match so far. Personally i would have given Gable&Benjamin the titles but i guess the SD Creative has other plans for the belts and i smell the beginning of a new chapter of the Usos vs Harper&Rowan rivalry.[***1/4]
Men's Royal Rumble:
Who would have thought that they would place the Men's Rumble in the middle of the card? Honestly it wasn't a smart choice, even tho i understand why it wasn't the main event, but at least it could have been after the other tag team match or even before the women's one. It wasn't perfect but it was for sure very fun, especially in the last part. The NXT Guys, Shane Helms and Rey Mysterio were all unxpected surprise and i'm really happy for Mysterio, even tho i'm not his biggest fan. The finish was awesome, not just because the right wrestler won, but because they kept teasing us and made us believe both could get the win and the wrestlemania main event. Nakamura win is the right choice for because because a SD Live Superstar needed to win the Rumble and this is the best way to get a Nakamura-Styles match for the WWE Title at WrestleMania. Also Guys like Roman or Cena don't need the Rumble to get the main event of WrestleMania, because they can earn it in other ways. Not a WONDERFUL (read that in Broken Matt Hardy voice) Rumble, but possibily the best one since the time Undertaker won, which if i remember correctly, was at the 2007 edition of the Royal Rumble.[****]
Raw Tag Team Championship: The Bar vs Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan
Easily the worst match on the main card, not because it sucked, but because it was very flat and they didn't much to deliver a great match, possibly because they worked the rumble before the match, which is a bit stupid if you ask me. The Bar got their titles back and i hope this won't end up with Rollins facing Jordan at WrestleMania. Please WWE, don't waste Rollins in this kind of match. I also wonder who will be the next tag team champs, because i don't think Sheamus e Cesaro won't have a long title reign. [**]
Universal Championship 3 way: Brock Lesnar vs Kane vs Braun Strowman:
It was the match it should have been: short but intense and chaotic. I wasn't expecting a five star rated match but not even a minus five star one. Braun looked like a beast, Brock won and Kane ate the pin as expected. Nothing more to add.[**1/2]
Women's Royal Rumble:
As it was the first one, WWE decided to honour their former stars so they picked more legends instead of more NXT girls for the match. For some of us, it was a good idea, for some of us it was a bad idea. I'm staying in the middle here, because part of me liked to see all those great girls i used to watch wrestle while i was younger, but at the same time i kinda wanted to see in the rumble wrestlers like the Iconic Duo or Nikki Cross. Personally they should have found a good mix between NXT and legends, but i won't complain too much. Instead i will complain on the last four, because personally i felt it was better to have Sasha eliminate Bayley and then let her challenge asuka for the win instead having the former Kana wrestle the Bella Twins. The right girl won but then Ronda Rousey came out...now, i like and always will like Ronda, loved her in UFC even tho her last fights were pretty terrible and her UFC career ended really on a bad note, but her debut seemed like WWE wanted her to steal the spotylight from Asuka and the other girls, the one who made history competing in the first ever Women's Royal Rumble. It felt like “Hey we can't compete with the SuperBowl Buzz so let's send out Ronda to steal some buzz and media coverage” I'm still interested to see how Ronda will do in the squared circle and who will face her at Mania. Going back to match analysis, the match was fine, not as good as the men's rumble but i enjoyed it. I'd say entertaining in some aspects (even more than the men's one), but booking wise there are a few thing they could have done better (like Dana Brooke eliminating Kairi Sane from the Rumble. That made no sense) [***1/2]
The event: good start for the WWE's 2018 PPV year. A Good Rumble PPV who didn't have a MOTY candidate like Takeover:Philly, but it was overall a really good and entertaining PPV who delivered, gifted us some really historic moments and for once it didn't felt like a normal mediocre WWE PPV, like a lot last year's PPVs that felt like a little better Raw or SDLive episode. Good start for the Road to WrestleMania *points at the Mania sign*[7.25]

My Review on the WWE Royal Rumble
Decided to give my thoughts on the WWE Royal Rumble since this is the first day fully back from Ponycon. So if you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend you do before reading. Or if you’re like me and don’t care for spoilers, go ahead.
NXT TakeOver: San Antonio
To me, the big 4 PPVs don’t start an hour earlier. They start a day earlier with NXT TakeOver. These are like PPVs themselves and sometimes even better than the Big 4. So I’m going to review them alongside the Royal Rumble and treat them all as one big event. Because they are.
Eric Young Vs Tye Dillinger
Been a fan of Eric Young even in TNA. While him winning the world Championship was definitely copying Daniel Bryan, he did deserve it. Nice to see him not do a joke gimmick in the WWE so people new to him can treat him seriously from the start. As for Tye, he has grown on me. To think, only Stonecold and DB were capable of getting one word over and he joins them with “10″.
Nice to see Eric give him one more chance to join. Made it seem he really did want him to join Sanity. But seeing how Tye rejected it was really smart. You can’t disqualify someone for giving back their jacket. If Tye does indeed move to the Main Roster, this is a great completion of his time in NXT. I’m not a fan of heels with minions but I could when done right. And Sanity I felt is done right.
They’re big an intimidating, but they’re not the sole reason Eric Young wins matches. Eric Young is capable of winning his own battles (through underhanded tactics but still on his own). They’re not someone who shows up in the final moments of the match and makes it easy for the heel to win. Overall, an excellent opening to the rest of TakeOver and the Royal Rumble in general.
Samoa Joe in the Audience
If I saw this live, I would have thought “if he’s there, that means he MUST be appearing at the Rumble.” Sadly, I would be wrong.
Roderick Strong Vs Andrade Almas
While I heard of Roderick Strong, I sadly never seen him wrestle outside the WWE. Seeing him has been impressive so far. Andrade Almas I felt was smart to go heel. As a face, he didn’t provide much impact. Especially when he got overshadowed by others coming into NXT. He has been working better as a heel than a face.
The two work really well together. Almas was a fun cocky heel while Strong at times lived up to his name and more by being also pretty agile and quick. Awesome match overall. Both of them would be awesome to see on Raw or Smackdown.
The Authors of Pain Vs DIY
Outside having Paul Ellering as a manager, I don’t see them being a Road Warriors ripoff. I see this more of Paul wanting to be known more than that guy who managed the Road Warriors. He want to be the guy known for managing champions. And unlike the Disciples of Apocalypse, these two definitely have the look of being Tag Team Champions. I just didn’t like how they won the later rounds of the Dusty Rhodes Tournament. Makes them look weak when they really aren’t.
DIY are frikkin impressive alone and together. They were the Match of Round 1 and possibly even the Entire Tournament of the Cruiserweight Classic. And seeing them take on The Revival all those times proved they have what it takes as single competitors or a team. 206, Raw, Smackdown, these two definitely deserve a call up.
The match told a good story. When DIY were in control, they had a strong intensity and excitement. When AoP were in control, they told the story of big men Vs smaller men very well in both having the advantage and losing it. Seeing Tommaso German Suplex both of them one after another was awesome! That double submission being broken was also an awesome spot!
This is how the AoP should have won the Dusty Classic: by just being dominate. Definitely beatable, but still showing they could dominate. I hope these two teams collide again in the future. So far, the current match were superior to the previous. I wonder if this can keep up.
Seth Rollins invades NXT
More evidence that TakeOver is part of the Big 4 Events. While this could have been done in the Royal Rumble, seeing it part of NXT really shows how close NXT is to the Main Stage. Would love to see more of this sometimes. Maybe a special event where some NXT stars take on WWE Main Stage ones. The Revival Vs America Alpha would show why both teams are a must see. Joe Vs Styles in the WWE. Sanity Vs Wyatts. A lot of fun possibilities without the need to call them up.
Asuka Vs Nikki Cross Vs Billie Kay Vs Peyton Royce
Asuka is fun: nuff said. Can’t tell if she is a heel or a face but I love the fact that when she asked for a match that she demanded all of them. I don’t remember much of Nikki prior to being in Sanity, but talk about making a nice change. This new gimmick is very fun.
Billy and Peyton, on the other hand, I’m not a fan of. As I said before, I prefer heels who can do things on their own. Either by being completely dominate like the AoP did or being sneaky on their own like Eric Young or the Miz. These two do it in a way I dislike: unable to do anything themselves unless they have numbers. Take away the numbers and they are not a threat and honestly not worthy of a title shot.
And the opening proved it as the two acted more like scared children than wrestlers. They also ruin Asuka and Nikki face each other. When those two collide, its frikkin fun! Intensity Vs Insanity. But when Billie and Peyton join, it slows it down and they  continue to work as a team. Its like you have two high speed cars in a race but they have to stop to allow two kids on a tandem bike to catch up.
I will say the Double Suplex off the Announce Table was a cool spot. And in another positive, unlike Jericho and Owens, the two actually didn’t care who got the pin. As long as they have the belt in their possession. But if they didn’t care who won, why not allow one to pin the other? Most likely because neither one wanted to be the one pinned, so pinning the champion would prove their dominance.
But I am glad Asuka defeated the pair while Nikki was taken out via Double Suplex off Announcer Table to Table. It made sure those two are out of the title hunt because they both failed to defeat her and Nikki can get an actual one on one match in the future.
Bobby Roode Vs Shinsuke Nakamura
All I’ve seen on Shinsuke was what he has shown in the WWE. And the first moment he arrived, I believed he was made to be on the Main Stage of the WWE. It was like Japan wanted to design their version of a WWE Superstar and Shinsuke Nakamura is that final product. He is probably going to have the greatest Wrestlemania Entrance ever in the future.
Bobby Roode I saw a lot in TNA. My first real taste of him turning heel was after the first ever TNA event where the winner of a grueling tournament would face the champion. Bobby Roode won that, only to lose the match at the PPV. That was bad in itself, but it got even worse when James Storm, his partner at the time, WON THE TITLE on TV after that. After that, Roode turned heel and won the title. It would have been so much smarter to just have Roode win it all and then turn heel.
But I blame TNA for that and not Bobby Roode. As part of Beer Money I felt the two had a license to print money. As a heel he was great. And now as NXT, he definitely lives up to his new theme song and is Glorious. Though of his three entrances, this one was weaker than his other two TakeOver entrances. Eight ladies kind of pale in comparison with having an actual choir sing your theme song or descending from above to enter the ring.
It was a fun match until the ending. I do hope it was planned and not a real injury. Would hate to see this take Nakamura out of action. But either way, I am glad to see Bobby Roode as Champion in the WWE. If Shinsuke isn’t injured and this is storyline, I do hope we get to see these two again in the future.
Pre-Show
Now the Day of the PPV. NXT was awesome! But can the WWE Royal Rumble itself live up to that hype? Let’s see with the matches that weren’t officially on the card.
Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, and Naomi Vs Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, and Natalya
There is a lot of people here. Becky is fun. Nikki has been proving herself. And Naomi’s entrance, I hate to say, is more exciting than her. I like Alexa Bliss. She makes a unique heel. Mickie back in the WWE is fun to see. Thanks to her time on the Independent Circuit and TNA, she still has the chops. So weird that Natalya is a heel. As coach, she had a great face gimmick. Sure, it was humorous but it would have gotten over. Considering Tamina is back to full health, I would have had her be the one to attack Nikki.
First, Mickie definitely needs a new theme song. So use to hearing her theme song being more country thanks to her time in TNA. Second, all these story lines in one match? Maybe just have one of them being the pre-show and the others handled in the next PPV. Third, I wish they had an all women Royal Rumble. With the talk of the Woman’s Revolution, it would be cool to see a Full Rumble dedicated to the Wrestlers themselves.
As for the match itself, that Triple Suplex was a fun spot. Other then that, it was an alright match. Definitely a downgrade after seeing all the TakeOver matches minutes ago. Luckily it wasn’t Mickie or Natalya who were pinned or Becky and Nikki getting the pin. This give Naomi the idea of a singles match at the Elimination Chamber PPV that they have been building up. If Mickie were pinned by Becky or Natalya was pinned by Nikki here, it would have watered down their feuds.
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson Vs Cesaro and Sheamus
I did enjoy Gallows in the WWE prior to his return. While being Kane was terrible (mostly because of the wig), his time with CM Punk was great. Festus was alright for a gimmick but seeing his real self was much better for him. In TNA, he was in Aces and Eights which I felt was a terrible fraction. Like I said with Billy and Peyton, I hate heels that relies on numbers. And I felt he had the same belief as he left TNA.
Now with Karl Anderson, they became part of the Bullet Club. While I haven’t seen much outside bits in ROH, even I heard of them. And they have been a good team but sadly haven’t gotten the chance to shine until recently. They definitely need a Team Name though. The Club is when they were with AJ Styles (as an allusion to the Bullet Club).
Speaking of teams who could use a Team Name: Cesaro and Sheamus. I frikkin enjoy Cesaro, especially in recent time. He makes a great singles competitor and has a lot of fun matches. And even in this situation, he still provides fun. Sheamus I have no real problem with. As a face or a heel, he does his job the best he can. I just am tired to see these two together, be it a team or against each other. I feel they both need to move on to something different.
I like the idea of two referees out there. It would make annoying finishes harder to pull off legitimately since we get a ref not distracted by a wrestler. Downside is we don’t get to see the teamwork of heels due to the fact they can’t attack the wrestler while their partner in the ring is being pushed away by the ref.
As for the match itself, I barely notice the second referee except a few times. This could have been a regular tag team match. Besides that, it was a better match than the 3 on 3 but still down from AoP Vs DIY. But I am glad to see Gallows and Anderson finally win the Tag Team Titles.
Nia Jax Vs Sasha Banks
Sasha is definitely fun. Shame she never got the chance to shine as Women’s Champion. Instead, we see her continually choke on the PPVs. As for Nia, I always liked powerful women. I was hoping to see Awesome Kong (Kharma) be successful but sadly things were out of everyone’s hands. Nia did a great job during NXT and I hope she gets that treatment I was hoping to see in WWE.
As for the match itself, it felt like a TV match than a PPV match. Makes sense since this is not the PPV. Technically a stomp for Nia to prove her dominance. So if she were to ever actually go for the Women’s Title, she would have steam behind her.
The Royal Rumble PPV
So far, NXT TakeOver was Superior to the Pre-Show. But then again, the Pre-Show is not the PPV itself. So can its four single matches match or surpass the ones on NXT?
Charlotte Flair Vs Bayley
Charlotte is a mix bag for me. When she’s alone, I feel she is a great heel. But when she was with someone (be it her father or Dana Brooke), I feel she is a terrible one. Like I said, I like my heels who can win on their own: be it dominance or using tricks. Those two directly interfere in the finish making it worse for me. Bayley I hoped would win the title here. Her character is fun and her last set of matches on TakeOver were great! I am hoping she would get the same kind of success on the Main Roster as she did in NXT.
For the match itself, it was pretty good. A little botchy in the beginning but some great moves from both of them (like the Back Slide Reversal from Charlotte). Definitely better than the NXT Women’s Match because they didn’t have to drag two others with them. And Charlotte goes for a dominance victory with a Natural Selection to the apron. Shame Bayley lost cleanly, but she was defeated by a strong attack like that and that at least doesn’t lower her rankings in my book.
Kevin Owens Vs Roman Reigns
I haven’t seen Kevin Steen prior to the WWE, but he has been a fun heel in NXT and his feud with John Cena. Sadly, as Universal Champion he has been hampered with being a bad heel due to needing the assistance. Kevin definitely can be a dominate heel and he has in the past. But honestly he has to stop being Besties with Jericho and be the show.
I don’t really have a problem with Roman. I believe he has been pushed too soon. And I can see why people dislike Roman due to all the “shoving him down our throats”. Hopefully he can develop into his own in the future and actually be a face people can get behind.
Why is the Shark Cage above the Ring? If I was Foley and I saw NXT’s attempt, I would have kept it away from the ring to prevent any shenanigans like throwing down brass knuckles like they did. But in this case, it didn’t matter because it was also No-DQ. That kind of makes the entire “Keep Jericho Out of the Match” pointless. Because being above the ring and ready to drop a weapon pretty much means he was still there in the match.
The match itself, being a No-DQ match, was fun to see. Lots of fun spots with the biggest being KO Frog Splash Roman through a Table on the Outside. But one of the spots had me worried and that was Kevin Owens falling down onto the Tower of Chairs. I really hate spots like these because I fear it would seriously injure them or worse. I only recently got over them breaking Ladders after someone revealed those are specifically made of wood.
The biggest downer was Braun Strowman. At the end, he showed up and attacked Roman Reigns. Once again, despite having the opportunity to show his dominance the writers decide to make him win because of others. And even ignoring that, why Strowman? Was he still upset with the Double Spear or the Spear in that Three on Three? If the first, why not attack Goldberg when he came out? This wouldn’t be the last time I question the Storytelling.
Neville Vs Rich Swann
I enjoyed Neville as a face. But now that he is a heel, he has definitely improved character wise. His look and his moves definitely makes the Heel turn legit. Rich Swann is fun and exciting in the ring. I was really hoping he would retain the title. But unlike other matches, I wouldn’t have mind if Neville won. This was a match where either outcome would be a positive for me.
The match was exciting and excellent. Neville is definitely the big star of 205 Live. And to see him win by submission showed that he doesn’t need the Red Arrow or to go off the top. He just wants to to inflict more damage.
John Cena Vs AJ Styles
I have no real problem with Cena. He does a lot for the WWE so he deserves to be their poster boy. AJ Styles definitely lives up to being phenomenal. In TNA, he was the reason you had to watch it. Even after being Mini-Flair, he was still great in the ring. TNA made a grave mistake to letting him go. Seeing him in the WWE so soon had me worried. But eventually in the end he became World Champion, something I never expected.
I am still surprised how well the two work together. I will say that sometimes Cena does heelish tactics. Would this lead to an actual heel turn or is he trying to add some edge? Overall, best singles match of the PPV alone.
The Royal Rumble Event
Possibly the most stacked card ever. And the potential of surprise entrants are numerous. How did it do? Let’s go over it by elimination.
Jack Gallagher - Entry #5
I was hoping to see this guy be one of the competitors. Outside the Neville story line, he was the highlight of 205 Live. Sadly, his time was too short and he was the first one eliminated when #6 entered the match. But for the brief time he was there, he was a joy to watch.
Mojo Rawley - Entry #4
Mojo is a fun guy in a Tag Team and most likely fun at parties. But as a singles competitor he could use work. Honestly, despite winning the Battle Royal to get in, I was hoping he would be the first one gone. But he lasted longer than Jack and that makes me sad.
Big Cass - Entry #1
He’s pretty good for a big guy, but I like him better with Enzo than a solo act. Sadly, we didn’t get to see the two together because he was eliminated right after Mojo.
Kalisto - Entry #3
I was rooting for him to win the Crusierweight for Smackdown. Sadly, his lost means Raw is also after Smackdown. He’s fun but really needs to be with others his own weight class. But man, that is a lot of height for his elimination.
Mark Henry - Entry #6
Like the three before, Mark was also eliminated by Strowman. I grew up watching Henry from his blue tights being an Olympic hero to being a member of the Nation to Sexual Chocolate and everything between. He definitely deserves a Hall of Fame shot in my book.
The Big Show - Entry #9
Big Show looked good. I believe them when they say this is the most fit he has been in some time. But surprisingly he was there pretty short. Another victim of the Strowman Push.
James Ellsworth - Entry #11
I knew he is a joke entry. I have them a bunch of times in my own Rumble. His spot was funny and that was an impressive bump he took when being eliminated. But I think I am done with the joke Ellsworth. How is the real Ellsworth?
Tye Dillinger - Entry #10
Another guy I wanted to see and even in the exact spot I was hoping for. I was hoping he would last a little longer but sadly he was soon eliminated.
Braun Strowman - Entry #7
As I type this, I am watching Raw. It was there that they explained, with a clip I totally forgot, that Kevin Owens promised him a title shot after beating Reigns. And Strowman took that as legit. Amazing how one promo can change the results of a match. As for his elimination, I’ll talk about that more when I get to the person he was eliminated by.
The New Day - Kofi #14, Big E #17, Woods #20
Even though they have been around for a long time, I still enjoy their work. Even Woods with his Up Up Down Down channel on Youtube. But for an event that says “Friend Vs Friend”, there is very little friends going on. In fact, these two practically went out at the exact same time.
Cesaro & Sheamus - Entry #19 and #16
Speaking of which, so did they. That is until the final moments. A funny bit was Cesaro getting dizzy hitting everyone with the Big Swing and almost getting Sheamus. But those final moments saw them going against each other and lead to both of them being gone.
Apollo Crews - Entry #22
I feel sorry for Crews. He is definitely good but he was brought up from NXT way too soon. And his time in the Rumble makes that same suggestion. He should probably go back to NXT and wait before WWE actually have a plan with him.
Dean Ambrose - Entry #12
I don’t mind the comedy bits of Dean. I still enjoy him. I just like the Miz better as IC Champion.
Dolph Ziggler - Entry #24
Ziggler’s chase for the IC title bored me. Besides one time, the Miz always had the upper hand. It is because Miz has a clever use of his wife while Ziggler hits a Glass Ceiling that is invisible. I am glad he turned heel, but in this Rumble you don’t see it.
Enzo Amore - Entry #27
Talk about a quick time. Like Big Cass, I prefer him with Cass than alone. And his time was quick thanks to Lesnar.
Brock Lesnar - Entry #26
I knew Lesnar wasn’t going to win, but I expected him to at least be the one to Eliminate Goldberg to set up that Wrestlemania Final Match. Instead, Goldberg came in and quickly eliminated him. That shocked me.
Rusev - Entry #18
Poor Rusev. He has a lot going for him but things just don’t turn out well for him. At least he lasted longer than others.
Baron Corbin - Entry #13
I wasn’t a fan of him before, even when he turned heel. But he has been growing on me. One thing I wanted to see at Survivor Series 2016 was Strowman Vs Corbin. Of the two, I prefer Corbin. My wish failed because of Shane McMahon. But in this rumble, I finally got to see Baron take on Strowman. And with a little help, Corbin was the one to eliminate him. He lasted pretty long too. Maybe in the future he’ll be a World Champion.
Luke Harper - Entry #25
I am honestly surprised that Luke was the one to betray the Wyatt Family. I swear it was going to be Orton and Harper would prove his loyalty. But if he does decide to go solo, here’s hoping he doesn’t return again to the Wyatt Family.
Goldberg - Entry #28
Goldberg did more in this Rumble than his match against Lesnar. But despite what they set up and planned, I am looking forward to seeing Goldberg Vs The Undertaker than either of those other two matches.
The Miz - Entry #15
I was hoping the Miz would win. He is my current favorite wrestler. In that match, practically everyone who entered hit the Miz with one of their best moves. Speared, F5ed, Chokeslammed... While Jericho lasted longer overall, the Miz was in that ring much longer.
Sami Zayn - Entry #8
Zayn is a fun guy and I’ve seen matches of him outside WWE. I am glad he lasted as long as I did but I was hoping to see him at least in the Final Four. Oh well.
The Undertaker - Entry #29
With Goldberg, Lesnar and the Undertaker entering when they did, I was wondering who would be #30. They wouldn’t have done that unless the surprise of the 30th Entrant was worth it. But honestly, it wasn’t. Especially because that person eliminated the Undertaker to set up a Wrestlemania match.
Chris Jericho - Entry #2
I am a big fan of Jericho. He was the first heel I ever cheered for. And in this Rumble, he surpassed Triple H by lasting almost 5 hours in total. Sadly, he didn’t do much as he spent a good number of time outside.
Bray Wyatt - Entry #21
I enjoy Wyatt. Love his gimmick and his group. While I question the entry of Orton into the fray, it does seem to be working for him. And Final 3 is a great spot to be in.
Roman Reigns - Entry #30
I was upset that Reigns was #30. While the possibility that Joe or Finn would be in the Rumble stung, the real issue was one thing: HOW?!? In story, McMahon hates Reigns. And she was definitely in charge of who enters the Rumble. So how on Earth did she okayed Reigns to enter? So far he hasn’t appeared on Raw so unless he becomes a heel working with the Authority, I don’t like the fact he did enter the Rumble.
Winner: Randy Orton - Entry #23
And our winner is the 7th Two Time Winner. Orton has his ups and down but he seems to be doing well in the Wyatt Family. But now that he won the title, what is gonna happen? Well, we’ll find out when Smackdown is on Tomorrow. I honestly expected him to be the betrayer in this PPV. Looks like I was wrong
Overall
Overall, it was a fun Weekend for Wrestling Fans. TakeOver was awesome and the Rumble was still fun. Now I am looking forward to do my own.

Royal Rumble 2017: Talk About Toying With Our Emotions!
Well this was an interesting rumble to say the least. 6 hours of non-stop WWE and I’d say it was well worth it.
6 Women Tag Match, Natalya/Alexa Bliss/Mickie James vs (W)Becky Lynch/Nikki Bella/Naomi: It was a good way to start the night. I’m very excited to see Naomi get into the title picture.
Sasha Banks vs (W)Nia Jax: YAY NIA! :D
RAW Tag Team Titles, Cesaro and Sheamus vs (W)Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: I would have preferred Cesaro and Sheamus to retain but it was a solid match and I look forward to seeing how this pans out
RAW Women’s Championship, (W)Charlotte vs Bayley: I really wanted Bayley to win so I’m hoping that this feud goes on and maybe Bayley gets a bad side
Cruiserweight Championship, Rich Swann vs (W)Neville: All hail the king of the cruiserweights! Neville is looking amazing thus far.
Universal Championship, (W)Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns: Saw that one coming but still a really good match. Plus Jericho in the cage was just perfect.
WWE Championship, AJ Styles vs (W)John Cena: I was so utterly torn by this match. On the one hand, I did want to see AJ’s ass handed to him but I really don’t like the idea of John breaking Ric’s record. What’s more, for all he may say otherwise, it just feels like we’re see the final days of Cena. With him completing those final points to his career, this whole thing just gives off a ‘last hurrah’ vibe. I hate to see wrestlers go, especially because I have had the pleasure/frustration of watching John from the beginning to now and that inevitable end seems to be looming on the not-so-distant horizon.
ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH: Dear lord where to begin? Here’s my top ten ‘things I loved about the rumble’. This is in no particular order and I will address the ending afterwards.
10) Tye Dillinger...duh!
9) Jack Gallagher and his umbrella: effin gold!
8) Y2J did not have a good night LOL First he’s stuck in a cage, then an umbrella to the nuts, a KO punch and the sheer abuse from several powerhouses and he STILL didn’t win. Better luck next time Sparkle Crotch
7) This is about the only time James Ellesworth has ever made me smile and that was only because Dean conned him and Braun wrecked him
6) Kofi Kingston and the ring post. Not his best save to date but its Kofi and damn that hit looked painful so him hanging on is pretty impressive on its own.
5) Braun Strowman,  he was an absolute beast and that elimination was just so clean and so perfect,
4) Enzo. I love this guy and he didn’t even blink or break character in the face of a fresh Brock Lesnar. The dude when right up to the beast incarnate! Granted he was thrown out a moment later but hey the effort still counts. He managed to make me laugh, cheer, hope, and fear in a matter of minutes, now that’s storytelling.
3) Sami Zayn. I may not have liked how he got his spot but he damn sure proved he was worth it in spades
2) Undertaker. So yeah, I don’t think the gas is out of the Deadman’s tanks just yet. He looked pretty damn powerful and totally on point throughout the whole time he was in there. He practically chokeslammed everything with a pulse! Plus can we be grateful that he chose to appear in the ring rather than his customary slow ass walk which would have taken forever with the length of that ramp.
1) Brock Lesnar annihilated by Goldberg...again. I couldn’t give two flying rat asses for Lesnar, I absolutely glory in his humiliation. For once it’s the beast that needs to make the comeback and that is so refreshingly satisfying.
OK! Now to the elephant in the room...or more appropriately the Viper. Randy Orton has won the Royal Rumble and personally I like it. I think people forget that the rumble is meant for a title opportunity at Wrestlemania so either Brock or Goldberg winning didn’t appeal to me because I knew they had unfinished business and I didn’t want their feud screwing with the title picture, especially since I enjoy it so much. Who really needs another disqualification/cheating-laden title storyline when we already have KO around? As for Taker, I do love him but I think he needs to be around a bit more before I can get behind him as a contender for any title. As of right now, it looks like he’ll be facing Roman at WM which is fine by me because I didn’t and still don’t want Roman anywhere near a title. After WWE botched his US title run, Roman needs to stay away from belts for a bit and this is coming from a die-hard Reigns fan. So yes Randy winning is perfectly fine by me and yes I do realize that may mean he’s up to face Cena but honestly, as I said before, I think Cena’s days are numbered and I can’t think of a more fitting person for John to retire to (or at least begin to) at the grandest stage of them all.

Royal Rumble 2017 Predictions
This post will detail the storylines leading into all the matches for the Royal Rumble 2017 card, as well as my predictions for these matches.
Pre-Show:
Cesaro and Sheamus(c) vs. The Club (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) for the RAW Tag-Team Titles in a ‘two referees are present’ match Why this match is on the Pre-Show I have no idea. This is a fantastic match to have to open the show. Anyway, Cesaro and Sheamus are fantastic as a team. They were a great choice for the team to end The New Days reign, and their dynamic is something fresh that we haven’t seen for a while. These two started off having a best-of-seven series, the last match of which was incredible and have since found their footing as a tag team. The Club is one of my favourite tag teams at the moment in WWE, their music is great, their aesthetic is great, their promo skills (particularly Anderson) when not being fed crap like the Old Day is great, and their in-ring work in incredible due to the massive amount of time they spent in Japan. Before Sheamus and Cesaro emerged, these guys were my pick to end New Day’s tag title reign. This match is mostly a simple title match. There have been some shenanigans the past few weeks in their singles matches, and particularly in their title match where The Club won the titles before Cesaro and Sheamus were disqualified for attacking the ref and retained the titles.
My Pick: The Club (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson).  Cesaro and Sheamus’ animosity hasn’t been played up in recent weeks, so I don’t think this will factor much into them losing the match, however the dominance the club has displayed recently leads me to think that they would just look weak to not win cleanly here. With two refs it is harder to have a dusty finish, and as such I think Cesaro and Sheamus will drop the titles here, although I could see these guys continuing the feud until Mania.
Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks Nia Jax made a statement by legitmately injuring Bayley and denying her her rematch against Asuka, taking the spot at TakeOver: The End. She lost to Asuka and since coming to the main roster has been booked as a monster heel. She’s strong, but she’s still very much a B player to the top of the RAW women’s roster. Sasha Banks just got out of an incredible feud with Charlotte for the Women’s title, which saw the belt swap back and forth between them. She’s an incredible wrestler, often taking cues from Eddie Gurerro, and she’s great on the mic too. She has an injured knee going into this match, a remnant of her last match with Charlotte. Sasha has been off for a few weeks with an injury, and recently Nia Jax attacked Sasha’s knee during a performance review, and beat her in a tag match which saw Sasha compete with the knee broken. Nia wants to make a statement and Sasha wants to prove that she can still put up a fight even when she’s hurt.
My Pick: Nia Jax. Sasha doesn’t lose a whole lot by eating a pin here, she’s got a bum leg, she’s just come off an intense feud with Charlotte and she’s recuperating. Nia has a lot to gain however. She started out taking on jobbers and hasn’t had a meaningful feud with anyone at the top of the card yet, so taking down Sasha would be a good rub for her.
Alexa Bliss, Mickie James and Natalya vs. Becky Lynch, Nikkia Bella and Naomi in a 6-woman tag match This match is one that should definitely be on the pre-show. There’s nothing at stake, no side really loses in a 6-man tag and no story here is probably going to be advanced. The only real story going into this is Mickie James’ return. On the go-home show she cut a pretty good promo aligning herself with Alexa Bliss, who has been feuding with Becky ever since she took Becky’s title. Naomi also wants a shot at the title, and Nikki Bella and Natalya are in an ongoing feud.
My Pick: Alexa Bliss, Mickie James and Natalya. I think the heel team will take this as a showcase of Mickie James. We saw that she is still very good in the ring in her match against Asuka at TakeOver Toronto, but the mainstream crowd has yet to see her compete after her return. Establishing Mickie James and Alexa Bliss as a dominant duo will do well for the story, and give them both good heat.
Main Card:
Rich Swann(c) vs. Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship Rich Swann was a great choice to take the title in the debut episode of 205Live. He has a fun gimmick and can give a decent promo, though he still needs a little work in that department. Neville is an incredible performer in the ring, and recently with his heel turn has become the single best thing about the Cruiserweight division. I’d never seen Neville’s promo ability while he was playing face, but he has a perfect face to be a heel and his accent compliments it stellarly. His claim to be the King of the Cruiserweights is founded on solid ground. Neville has been absolutely devastating the Cruiserweight division as of late. He has taken down both former champions TJ Perkins and Brian Kendrick, and I don’t think he has lost a match since his turn. Rich Swann has been booked strong, but personally I think his time is up as champion for now.
My Pick: Neville. This is the closest thing to a lock on this card. Neville has been so strong recently, and he absolutely needs to win this in order to keep looking strong. If anyone can manage to look realistic as they take his title, it will be an amazing rub for them. Bonus points if he comes out next week wearing the belt around his head like a crown.
Charlotte Flair(c) vs. Bayley for the RAW Women’s Championship Charlotte has been a dominant heel ever since she won the diva’s title. She has a 15 PPV-win streak, was the other half of the amazing feud with Sasha Banks, and is great in all respects. Bayley is the most relatable person on the roster right now. Super over with the fans, and an adorable gimmick and promo style, she’s definitely next in line for this title. The lead-up to this match involved Bayley getting a few wins over Charlotte while she was still feuding with Sasha, and taking a claim to the title now that Sasha has stepped out of the picture. Charlotte has been tormenting Bayley recently about her life-long fandom of the WWE, and Bayley has been getting super over because of it.
My Pick: Charlotte Flair. Charlotte should continue her PPV winning streak here. This is Bayley’s first match for the title, and she still needs to earn her win in the eyes of the fans (even though she’s one of the best on the entire roster). This makes a lot more sense for Bayley to lose to Charlotte until Wrestlemania where she can finally break the Queen’s winning streak and have a huge Wrestlemania moment that is great for every fan as well.
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in a ‘Chris Jericho Suspended above the ring in a Shark Cage, No Disqualification’ match Kevin Owens has been champion since shortly after Finn Balor vacated the title due to injury right after Summerslam. He won it in a Fatal 4-Way with Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass, as Triple H handed him the title. Since Battleground he’s been best friends with Chris Jericho and the two have been a nearly unstoppable duo, with Jericho helping Owens win most of his title matches through interference. Roman Reigns recently lost his US championship to Chris Jericho, putting him in prime position to reclaim the top belt on RAW. After his suspension just before Battleground he seemed to get somewhat de-pushed, but now he’s back at the top of the card and ready to headline shows once again. The story leading into this match has been long and slow, although not without it’s interesting moments. Before Reigns, Rollins was gunning for Owens’ title, and before the stipulation of this match being a No-DQ match, I was certain Roman was going to win. The only reason I can see them having added the No-DQ match is to protect Roman if he loses. Two world title changes in one show is a lot. Even though the Rumble is one of WWE’s big four, it’s not Wrestlemania so I find it hard to believe both title’s will change hands. This is something of a tough call.
My Pick: Kevin Owens. I think there’s enough working against Roman that he could conceivably lose this match. Chris Jericho can definitely interfere now that the match is No-DQ, and they might be wanting to save Roman’s title win for Mania. I can however absolutely see Roman winning this as well.
AJ Styles(c) vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship AJ Styles has had one of the best first years of anyone in WWE. He wrestled Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania, competed for the WWE Title soon after, then entered into a program with Cena, beat him clean at Summerslam, and has since been the WWE Champion. John Cena is the institution of WWE, and the clear heel in this feud. He has been showing AJ major disrespect and not giving the fans any reason to cheer him, apart from his long heritage in the company, and his entertaining in-ring work. This match came about with Cena coming back and simply saying he wanted a title shot. Getting the title here means he would tie Ric Flair’s record for the most World Championship reigns, which would allow him to easily break it at a later date, and Cena having the title gives him a lot of options for people to feud with if someone from Smackdown wins the Rumble.
My Pick: John Cena. When in doubt, always bet on Cena because Cena wins. I’d love to see AJ carry the belt til Mania, but his reign has been long enough for a first reign for a guy of his caliber. This is a huge toss-up, I could see Cena wanting his big win to come at Wrestlemania, but I can also see him wanting to take the belt now, which would make the Rumble pretty special. Either way this should be a great match.
The Royal Rumble Match: First, here’s the list of confirmed entrants: Goldberg Brock Lesnar Big E Kofi Kingston Xavier Woods Chris Jericho Braun Strowman Baron Corbin The Undertaker (not assigned to one brand) Dean Ambrose (second time entering both the Royal Rumble PPV and the Royal Rumble match as IC Champion) The Miz Dolph Ziggler Cesaro Sheamus Bray Wyatt Randy Orton Luke Harper Big Show Sami Zayn (recently took Seth Rollins’ entry into the Rumble) Big Cass Rusev Mojo Rawley (Won a Battle Royale on Smackdown Live this past week)
There are 8 spots which have yet to be claimed, and all of the NXT roster is reportedly going to be backstage for the show.
I have a few predictions here.
Unnanounced Entrants: Tye Dillinger (at number 10) Samoa Joe Pete Dunne Bo Dallas Cedric Alexander R-Truth/Goldust James Ellsworth Heath Slater
Winner: Samoa Joe. I think this would be a fantastic rub for Samoa Joe, debuting at the top of the company, headlining Wrestlemania, and most importantly I really want it to happen.
5 People I’d be okay with winning otherwise: Sami Zayn: This would simply be incredible. Sami can have a great match with anyone at the top of the card, and hearing his music play at the end of the show as he points to the Wrestlemania sign would be an incredible feel-good moment. Bray Wyatt: This only works if he continues in his feud against Randy Orton. Orton winning the Rumble would also be good, but would likely mean that Orton would take the title off him at Mania, and I’d prefer to see the huge blow-off of Wyatt and Orton (which will definitely happen at Mania) to be for the title, and for Bray to take it on the grandest stage on them all. Chris Jericho: This answer also has a caveat, and it will never happen, but I’d love if he continued in his planned feud with Kevin Owens, and they feuded for the US Title in the Main Event, perhaps if they even had a Title vs. Title match where the winner becomes a dual Champion if Owens keeps the Universal title until then. The Undertaker: The Undertaker has some many fantastic oppurtunities for great matches at Wrestlemania. He could feud with Cena for the belt, or with AJ or even Samoa Joe if he wins the WWE Championship. The other huge possibility is him facing off against Finn Balor, which would be an incredible supernatural-off, and with Finn being such a great worker this match could be gold, especially if Finn takes the Universal Championship back right after the Rumble. I hope he doesn’t win if he’s going to feud with Reigns however. Baron Corbin: Lastly, Baron Corbin. I think this could be the start an interesting push for Corbin. I don’t know if he could realistically challenge for the title and have anyone believe he would win, against guys like Cena and AJ, he’s still slightly below their level, however it would be a very interesting turn to say the least.
Let me know what you guys think of the Rumble and I’ll see you on Monday with a recap and results.

I had a bulletin board in my bedroom with every picture of Leo ever taken – keep in mind, this was pre-‘Titanic’ and pre-Us Weekly, practically pre-Internet. I had to buy ‘The Leonardo DiCaprio Album’ and cut out my favorite pics. – Jenny Han
I have such an ego ’cause I’m a double Leo. I can’t let go of me, you know, so it’s very difficult for me to be somebody else and not me. I’m so into me. – Paul Mooney
I like art history and art criticism. Leo Steinberg has always been my favorite. He’s very original, very accurate and acute. – Helen Vendler
I listened to the veteran wrestlers that had tons of experience, like Leo Burke. I was never really alone. – Robert Maillet
I met Leo Fender, who is the guru of all amplifiers, and he gave me a Stratocaster. He became a second father to me. – Dick Dale
I read a book called ‘Transatlantic’, which is a history of the great shipping lines. Also, of course, I had read about the Titanic and saw Leo drowning at the end of the ‘Titanic’ movie and all that stuff. – Erik Larson
I really do not care that Messi isn’t scoring every match. Leo always produces match-changing moments. – Gerardo Martino
I thought back to my middle-school experience of having slumber parties and watching Romeo + Juliet and staring at Leo and thinking about my first kiss and what I wanted it to be like. And when you have your first real love, it’s an epiphany, you know? It’s like a whole new world. – Bonnie McKee
I would like to have an assortment of words, but what can I say about Leo? He is breaking all the records, and those he will still beat. He makes the public always expect something special from him, and he delivers it. – Ernesto Valverde
If Leo is at his level, it’s going to be very difficult to find a solution to stop him. – Luis Enrique
I’m a huge fan of Don Leo Jonathan. I love that era of wrestling. – Cesaro
I’m a leo, and damn proud of it. – Unknown
I’m a middle child, so I have middle-child syndrome. With a middle child, you always have to take in everything and adjust and maybe compromise a little bit so you’re able to see both sides of an issue. I’m also a Leo – I love astrology – so that affected me, just being a lion. – Jessica Williams
I’m Pisces with Leo rising. The Pisces part is the dreamer. The Leo says, ‘Let’s execute.’ – Quincy Jones
In the summer of 1866, as Leo Tolstoy prepared for his serialized novel ‘War and Peace’ to be published as a single volume, he wrote to illustrator Mikhail Bashilov, hoping to commission drawings for the new edition of the novel, which he referred to by its original title,1805.- Alexander Chee
It is a pleasure to see Leo, an Argentine, as the top scorer in the Champions League. – Gerardo Martino
It is an honour and a pleasure to be able to play with Leo Messi. I want to learn. He is the best player in the world and in history. I am delighted to be able to share costumes. I want to learn a lot from him on and off the field. – Ousmane Dembele
It is best to be born in April or August when the life-giving Sun is in its exaltation sign Aries or Leo, its home, for then we enter the sea of life on the crest-wave and are backed in the battle of existence by an abundant fund of vim and energy. – Max Heindel
It would not be honest if I did a review, because I’ve worked with Leo Messi, whom I consider the best player I’ve seen. I cannot comment or compare with Cristiano Ronaldo because I have not worked with him. That is not to say that I do not have as much respect for Cristiano as a footballer. – Frank Rijkaard
It’s an incredible feeling when you look across the dressing room and see Andres, Leo, Luis and Sergio Busquets, and everyone else. They are players I used to watch on TV or play with on PlayStation, and now I am sharing the same dressing room. It’s incredible for me. – Philippe Coutinho
I’ve always heard Leo saying he is happy at Barcelona. I’ll take the message that he is very comfortable here. – Luis Enrique
I’ve never met a player like Leo Messi. Julen Lopetegui
Lauv comes from the Latvian word for lion, and my mom’s side of the family is from Latvia – it’s a place I’ve been probably 15 times or more. I’m also a Leo, and my real name, Ari, means lion. – Lauv
Leo admires and is admired, loves and is loved. – Linda Goodman
Leo Burke was an unbelievable trainer. Him and Tom Prichard. Tom Prichard was not a big guy. And I learned a lot from him. – Mark Henry
Leo couldn’t deliver Mr. Martin Scorsese his Oscar with ‘The Aviator’, but I will go on record to say I will do so in ‘The Departed’. – Anthony Anderson
Leo Durocher was our manager and he brought Willie up to me and said, ‘This is Willie Mays and he’s your new roommate.’ You could see right away that this young man was a natural. He had those real big hands, great power and speed and would catch everything hit in his direction. He’s the best center fielder that ever lived, no question. – Monte Irvin
Leo Hurwicz is the father of mechanism design theory and has inspired much of my work, and Roger Myerson is an old friend and collaborator and a tremendous economist. – Eric Maskin
Leo is the best player in the world; that is very clear. – Thiago Alcantara
Leo Messi is a little football God. I love playing alongside him. We understand each other without needing to talk. – Dani Alves
Leo would also be unstoppable if I played him at full-back. Messi is simply the best there is. – Luis Enrique
Leo, sadly, has Parkinson’s, but he used to cook all sorts of dazzling things. – Jilly Cooper
My father, Leo Henry Brown, really was talented – he could write. He had a gift, and he had a great, sly humor. – Angie Dickinson
My kids and I make pasta three days a week now. It’s not even so much about the eating of it; they just like the process. Benno is the stuffer, and Leo is the catcher. They’ve got their jobs down. – Mario Batali
My life as Mrs. Leo Durocher and baseball come first. – Laraine Day
My sign is Leo. A Leo has to walk with pride. When he takes a step, he has to put his foot down. You walk into a room and you want people to know your presence, without you doing anything. – Wesley Snipes
Norbert Leo Butz is a master class in energy. – Lauren Ambrose
Of course there is ‘Messidependence.’ It would exist in any team in the world, but when he is not there, we also have to play and try to win. Leo is fundamental for us and marks the style; it is well known that he is the best in the world for something. – Ernesto Valverde
One might say Leos possess a kind of instant passion. – Linda Goodman
Ronaldo leaving would seem to have ended the competition between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo because people rarely mention one without mentioning the other. A lot of people are interested – me, too – to see how it will affect Real Madrid’s football and what they might do in the transfer market. – Ernesto Valverde
So I think it was a good thing It was a little surreal watching Leo scream ‘I’m not going to die today!’ with our music playing – that was the last thing on my mind when I wrote the song. – Jon Crosby
The first time I met Leo Messi, I didn’t know who he was, only that I couldn’t believe the boots he was wearing. But he is like a brother to me. It was at the start of 2005, when I was with the Argentine under-17 squad and I saw him chatting with Ezequiel Garay and some other players about the boots he’d brought back from the U.S.A. – Sergio Aguero
The Kate Winslet thing has been a shocker. I was like, that is the most ridiculous claim. Amazing, obviously. She’s been my idol since I re-enacted ‘Titanic’ and fell in love with Leo. And it’s a privilege to be called the next anything. But I suppose to be the next you is all you can do. – Florence Pugh
The Leo contains the essence of royalty. – Linda Goodman
The vibration of Leo, ruled by the Sun itself, is almost tangible, a thing you can actually feel throughout your whole being in the presence of a Lion or Lioness. — Linda Goodman
There are no words to describe Leo. He continues to break records every time one is put in front of him. – Gerardo Martino
There is something fundamental about Leo in terms of what he transmits to the supporters and what he transmits to the opposition when he starts to run at you. And I speak from experience. – Ernesto Valverde
There’s no really signature Leo DiCaprio role, like Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson no matter what movie he’s in. – Dennis Christopher
What I’d most highlight about Leo Messi is his huge sense of responsibility for the team. It shows in every game in every competition. – Ernesto Valverde
When I played Leonardo DiCaprio’s mother, they liked that Leo had very hooded eyes and a rounded nose with a ball. They said, They look like they could be mother and son. – Ellen Barkin
When Leo takes the record from me, it will hurt a little. But it’s not just anyone taking it away. It’s not a normal person. A Martian is taking it from me. That makes me feel a little better. – Gabriel Batistuta
You know, I am a Leo. Lion is a giant part of me. – Patrick Swayze

“He made the tag! The GWWE made the tag and now the Tag Team Project is running wild on wrestling apathy and sloth all across the Place to Be Nation!” – Read in Good Ol’ J.R.’s voice
Last year, Place To Be Nation (PTBN) conducted their Greatest WWE Wrestler Ever (GWWE) project, leading to many of us discovering tons of new wrestling to enjoy, thanks in large part to recommendations from other participants. To continue the momentum from the GWWE, PTBN is running a new project voting on the 100 Greatest WWE Tag Teams, and you can join the discussion on the Facebook group here.
Keeping with the spirit of collaboration from GWWE, I decided to write about some of the teams I’m watching as I do my homework to make my GWWE Tag Team list. I’ll pick at least half a dozen teams from different eras each week (and future lists will look at older teams, I promise). The tag team list is completely subjective, so without the NJPW guidelines, I had to decide what to consider for criteria, and to include in this column. I am looking at match quality (how does the team work together and execute basic tag team wrestling, which will show up in nearly every match), top-tier matches, longevity (measured by # of matches) and combined days of tag team reigns. If I think a team has a particularly strong intangible (like Demolition or the New Age Outlaws being super over or New Day’s character work) I’ll call that out too. I use Wrestlingdata for the match stats with Cagematch as a back-up if I can’t find what I need. I’m also less interested in exact totals than in giving a general picture of longevity and title reigns. You can determine your own criteria, but I thought you might be interested to see the stats.
I’ll try to do one of these regularly, BUT I need your help. If I missed a match you think voters should watch, let me know, preferably on the Facebook page, but comments after the article will work too. If there’s a team you want to see me talk about let me know and I’ll add them to the list and try to get to them. I’m trying to include a mix of the major teams, short-term teams and teams I love and dislike each week. I’ll add the range I expect a team to appear on my list, but keep in mind that’s very flexible, especially during these early columns. Let’s get started:
Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch
Years Teamed in WWE: 1983-1985
Total Matches: 148
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 279
Match Suggestions: vs. Terry Daniels & Sgt. Slaughter (7/23/84 MSG), vs. Bob Backlund & Brian Blair (July 1984 Philly)
Thoughts: I’m not sure they’re really a hidden gem, since both guys have always been considered great workers, but I was unfamiliar with their team and they’ve greatly exceeded my expectations. Murdoch and Adonis both bump and stooge like crazy, making their opponents look good, but also cut off the ring and cheat like nuts to draw heat. The Slaughter & Daniels and Backlund & Blair matches can both be found on the Facebook page, along with some other matches. Their title win over the Soul Patrol is on the Johnson & Atlas entry and clipped versions of their loss to the US Express are on the network and elsewhere. I wish they’d stayed longer and had more matches in general, and more with the US Express and eventually British Bulldogs, specifically. But their match quality speaks for itself, and a 279-day title reign is nothing to sneeze at. It’s still early but the North-South Connection has been the “discovery team” from the pre-WrestleMania-era for me to date.
Placement Range: I think they’ll make my top 35 or 40 and have upside potential. It’s hard to see them moving much higher than 25 as other teams have a deeper resume, but I love what I’ve seen from Adonis and Murdoch.
Dream Team
Years Teamed in WWE: 1985-1987
Total Matches: 261
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 226
Match Suggestions: vs. Tito Santana & Ricky Steamboat (4/21/85 Maple Leaf Garden), vs. British Bulldogs 2/3 falls (SNME aired 10/4/86), vs. British Bulldogs (WM 2), vs. Islanders (12/6/86 Boston Garden)
Thoughts: I think the Dream Team is one of the more underrated teams in WWF history and potentially in this project. People tend to shit on them a bit because they don’t like Beefcake, and while a lot of Beefer’s later stuff leaves a lot to be desired, he was fine when teaming with Hammer. Certainly, the best matches of his career came as part of the Dream Team. That match against Santana & Steamboat is terrific, and they had some of the Bulldogs’ best WWF matches. I wish there was more footage of their matches with the US Express, as I saw a house show match that was quite good, but I fear may have been lost to the sands of time or WWE’s Sword of Vengeance on YouTube. Still, there’s a lot of good Dream Team stuff out there. Hammer’s a fantastic worker, always getting great heat on any babyface team worth a damn, and Beefcake seemed game to try and keep up. Their longevity is a bit light compared to the elite teams, but they have a very strong catalog of top matches.
Placement Range: They could end up in the mid-to-late teens on my list, and I’d be really surprised if they fall outside my top 30 or 35. I may be a bit higher than most on them, but they are the common denominator in so many of the great matches of the early Golden Age of Tag Teams in the mid-80s.
  Headshrinkers
Years Teamed in WWE: 1992-1994
Total Matches: 307
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 124
Match Suggestions: vs. Steiner Brothers (WM IX), w/ Bigelow vs. Smoking Gunns & Tatanka (SummerSlam ’93), vs. Quebecers (5/2/94 Raw)
Thoughts: Love me some Headshrinkers. They’ve got a great power game (and it’s always fun seeing them squash jobbers dead) and incredible agility for their size. And with the combined brainpower of Afa and Capt. Lou Albano, I’m shocked they didn’t hold the titles for years. But like so many of us, they fell victim to the temptation of raw poultry. Still, they managed to have some really good matches. The Steiners WrestleMania match is probably their best one, but I like the six-man at SS ’93 and the title win from the Quebecers on Raw. There are plenty of offerings of them destroying jobbers on the network, as well.
Placement Range: They feel like a top-half type of team, but it’s still early and that may depend a bit what other teams impress me. Still 40-65 range seems about right.
  Steve Austin & Triple H
Years Teamed in WWE: 1996, 2000-2002
Total Matches: 16
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 22
Match Suggestions: vs. Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho (5/21/01 Raw), w/ Stephanie McMahon vs. Hardy Boyz & Lita (4/9/01 Raw)
Thoughts: The Two-Man Power Trip had a good Raw match with Stephanie against the Hardys and Lita and a pretty lousy PPV main event against the Undertaker and Kane. But who the hell am I kidding? They’re in the discussion for one reason and it’s the Raw tag team match against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit that still stands as one of the best tag matches ever on Raw. While that match is outstanding, I think it does benefit a bit from the fans’ relief at the time of seeing new blood in the main event (after the matches with Taker and Kane from that time, who can blame them). The match also grew in legend a bit, since it’s the match where Triple H tore his quad for the first time (and props to him for toughing it out until the finish in that one). My gut tells me that match puts them in the upper-midcard of short-term teams, behind the SmackDown Six teams of Edge & Mysterio and Angle & Benoit, Benoit & Jericho (they were in the same match and have other stuff), Shawn Michaels & Diesel, Mr. T & Hulk Hogan and maybe Michaels & Austin, but ahead of most other short-term teams. Also, the years teamed is a bit misleading as they teamed together for one-off shots in 1996, 2000 and 2002, but the bulk of their work came during that 2001 run.
Placement Range: A definite maybe. Seriously, this will depend on how many short-term teams with great or historic matches I include. They’ll be in the back quarter of the list, or just miss the cut, depending on how things shake out.
  Rey Mysterio & Billy Kidman
Years Teamed in WWE: 2002-2004
Total Matches: 24
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 0
Match Suggestions: vs. TWGTT (Vengeance ’03), vs. TWGTT (8/14/03 SD)
Thoughts: Kidman and Rey are a tremendous high-speed, high-energy, high-flying tag team. Their match at Vengeance ’03 is their best match (and maybe TWGTT’s but I hope to talk about them in a later article), and the two teams had matches on SD on 3/13/03 (#186) and 8/14/02 (#208). Kidman and Rey took on the Conquistadors on episode #204 of SD and Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore on episode #205, if you’re a completest. Still, 24 matches isn’t much to go on, with no title reign to boost things up. As good as the Vengeance match is, it’s not an iconic all-timer nor particularly historically significant, so I can’t see this team getting near the top of the short-term teams. I did enjoy watching their matches, though.
Placement Range: On the outside looking in. 100 spots is a lot, so I won’t completely rule them out, but I don’t see them making my list.
  New Day
Years Teamed in WWE: 2014-2018
Total Matches: 595 (as of 6/11/18)
Combined Days of Tag Title Reigns: 586
Match Suggestions: vs. Usos (SummerSlam ’17), vs. Usos (Battleground ’17), vs. Usos (Hell in a Cell ’17), vs. Kidd & Cesaro (Payback ’15), vs. Kidd & Cesaro (Extreme Rules ’15) vs. Kidd & Cesaro (4/30/15 SD)
Bonus Intangibles: Perhaps the best character work of any team in WWE history. They’ve certainly been called upon to fill more non-wrestling segments than most teams.
Thoughts: Don’t you dare be sour… yadda, yadda, yadda…and FEEL the power! I rarely “get” the New Day’s shtick (and if anybody gets the deal with the f’n pancakes, by all means enlighten me). But I can’t discount the fact that they’ve done more character work, more skits and promos and been asked to fill more TV and PPV segments than maybe any tag team in history. These segments are hit or miss, but with more hits than misses and some fans completely eat up their characters. And you’ve got to give them points for originality, as there has never been a team with characters like New Day. They’ve been doing it for a long time, too, as their 595 matches to date puts them within a few matches of the Hardy Boyz and behind only the Usos, Hart Foundation and Dudley Boys of the teams I’ve tracked so far. They have the longest tag title reign recognized by the WWE.  You can’t fault their matches either, as they have good matches with nearly everyone, and have shown strong versatility working as heels and babyfaces. Their top-end matches stack up well with virtually anyone, particularly their epic feud with the Usos last year. I also really liked their matches with Kidd & Cesaro. The two-out-of-three falls match at Payback was probably the best, but I liked random matches from Main Event between the two teams, as well. I can’t remember seeing any New Day matches that I thought were bad.
Placement Range: Easy top five for me. Honestly, I don’t know what more you could want out of a team. They’ve got the longevity, the long title reign, the classic feud and matches and great character work. Any criteria that don’t place the New Day high would seem pretty booty to me.
That wraps up part one of the House Afire series. I enjoyed giving you a peek into how I’m working through this process. Hopefully, you found something of value, but if I didn’t entertain, disappoint or enrage you, we’ll try again soon. Remember, if you want to add to the discussion, agree or disagree with my takes on these teams, or just join in on the fun of the tag team project, join the Facebook group.

What we learned from SummerSlam 2017: Braun Strowman is the greatest wrestler of all time
Braun Strowman didn’t win the Universal Championship, but it barely matters, because SummerSlam was his show.
SummerSlam was six hours long, but it didn’t feel quite that lengthy, and not just because Barclays’ security kept fans from entering the arena in a timely fashion that would have allowed them to, you know, watch the wrestling they had paid for and likely traveled to see. Don’t worry, I’m not that bitter about still not being able to say I’ve seen the Hardy Boyz wrestle, I’m just going to bring it up here in this space on my platform that other people will see, for no reason whatsoever.
Anyway, no time for all that, let’s dive in to a show that both changed the landscape of WWE and also kept quite a bit the same... but not really.
The Usos def. the New Day to become SmackDown Tag Team Champions
Not everything can be on the main show, because the main show is four hours long and WWE basically schedules five hours of matches. You know this going in, however, so you’re watching before the 7 p.m. “start” time, which means that Usos vs. New Day was, for all intents and purposes, the opener that got everyone hyped for SummerSlam even though it was on the pre-show.
What we learned: Near falls! Tag team tandem moves! Exciting sequences that led to unexpected places! This was one of the New Day’s better tag matches since the group entered the championship scene a couple of years back, and while a lot of that is thanks to their growth as a unit since Xavier Woods decided he deserved praise for his ring work, too, you have to credit the Usos here as well.
Maybe you prefer the Young Bucks to the Usos. Here’s the thing, though: you don’t have to choose. There are plenty of superkicks to go around, whether your gimmick is that you’re here to break knees on your way to the top, or it’s hey, remember the 90s?
John Cena def. Baron Corbin
John Cena hadn’t won a match at SummerSlam since 2010 when he ground The Nexus into a fine paste that had no practical use. He did the same here with Corbin, who didn’t look bad or anything in any way other than that he’s been basically shoved headfirst out of the main event in less than a week.
What we learned: Corbin failed to cash in the men’s Money in the Bank briefcase last Tuesday and looked like a total goober in the process. Then, at SummerSlam, he lost to John Cena, who is awesome and all, but if you can’t beat Jinder Mahal after a match where he’s taken a beating and doesn’t have his entourage with him, and he can’t beat Cena clean or even kick out of a single Attitude Adjustment, then, uh, what are you doing here?
Natalya def. Naomi to become SmackDown Women’s Champion
Naomi is a special talent who is either straight-up inventing offense or pulling from some real deep cuts no one who is watching remembers. It wasn’t enough for her to overcome Natalya, though, who managed to lock in not one, but two Sharpshooters, forcing Naomi to tap out and hope that she doesn’t get caught in the devastating submission in their rematch.
WWE.com
What we learned: Naomi’s run was a good one, where she basically beat Lana right out of a career in wrestling and managed to hold off a division that added Charlotte and introduced the first women’s Money in the Bank briefcase holder in Carmella. Now it’s time for Natalya, though, who had not held a women’s title since 2010, when the Divas Championship still existed. Nattie was overdue for a run, especially as both her character and in-ring work has improved as the competition around her did.
Now the questions mostly shift to how fellow heel Carmella will react to this championship win. Honor among heels, or, like with the attitude that won her Money in the Bank in the first place, is all Carmella cares about getting Carmella to the top?
Big Cass def. Big Show
[fart noise]
What we learned: Nothing was gained, nothing was learned. Enjoy Arby’s.
Randy Orton def. Rusev
Rusev attacked Randy Orton during his entrance. Smart! Rusev forgot that Randy Orton will always go to the RKO when he’s cornered. Not smart!
What we learned: I feel bad for Handsome Rusev, but this is tremendous content.
Sasha Banks def. Alexa Bliss to become RAW Women’s Champion
Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks once again hit each other hard and often, but Alexa wasn’t able to escape Sasha’s more painful version of her submission, where she further arches her opponent’s back and pulls hard on their face and man it hurts a little just typing that sentence.
What we learned: Fans sure love both Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss, as the crowd went wild for both competitors and seemed to be pulling for whichever one of them happened to be on top at a given moment. There’s the obvious question about what Alexa does from here — further team up with Nia Jax to get revenge on Sasha, maybe? — but also what Bayley does now that she’s hurt and being booed and her bff is holding the championship she very well might have held if not for her shoulder.
Evil Bayley? Anyone? You know she can pull it off even if it’ll break hearts, but if this wonderful angel is getting booed, too many hearts might already be broken to not turn her.
Demon Finn Balor def. Bray Wyatt
Yoooo this was pretty dope actually. There was a real chance for this to suck, because Bray Wyatt is competing with Randy Orton to have like, the worst year ever. Instead, though, we got Bray showing fear as he began to realize that Finn’s Demon persona is more than just a paint job.
WWE.com
What we learned: Balor moves differently when the demon is unleashed — he’s lower to the ground, he stalks his prey, and he recovers from moves differently than if he were “just” regular old leather-jacking-wearing Balor. Bray’s reaction to that was to drop out of his own creepy shtick and then get kicked into a turnbuckle, setting up Balor for his finisher and the win. So rarely does WWE deliver promise on their deliver of supernatural elements, especially when it relates to Wyatt, but this one worked through and through.
Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins def. Sheamus and Cesaro to become RAW Tag Team Champions
Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are best friends and brothers again and there is no stopping them not even the combined strengths of the lads Sheamus and Cesaro can interfere with this destiny. Did you not see Ambrose and Rollins fist bump last week? It is a symbol of their struggle and their power and no force can contain those who wield it.
What we learned: Man, it was wonderful to see Seth Rollins once again in the role of last-second savior for a tag team match involving Dean Ambrose. Neither side would give in to the other, with tons of false finishes and last-second saves and brutal tag team moves that made this, at times, look more like a WrestleMania 2000 match on Nintendo 64 than one in 2017. That is, in not even the tiniest way, a complaint.
The end result was a ridiculous finishing sequence that saw Rollins save Ambrose from Cesaro and Sheamus with a hurricanrana off the turnbuckle that threw Cesaro into Sheamus, breaking Ambrose free and allowing the two to finally get an advantage that could not be overcome.
In conclusion:
[extremely now kiss voice] now fist

Oh, one more thing: Dean Ambrose is now a Grand Slam champion, as he’s been WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion (his first title!), and now finally, a Tag Team Champion. He’s only the 16th in the history of the WWE to manage the feat, and Rollins is only an IC title run behind joining him on that list.
United States Champion AJ Styles def. Kevin Owens
AJ Styles was the first of just two champions on the show to manage to retain their title. He did it despite Kevin Owens’ repeated attempts to get the champ in trouble with special guest referee Shane McMahon, but in the end, it was Owens who got overly frustrated with Shane O’Mac and saw it cost him in the end.
Hard to argue with @FightOwensFight on this one. http://pic.twitter.com/Hf5CoP7xV1

Shane did take longer to get up than he maybe should have, but also, he got up faster than a regular ref did. No wonder SummerSlam didn’t feel like it was six hours long!
What we learned: We are indeed heading toward Shane McMahon vs. one of these two, and it’s going to be Owens, who is furious with Shane despite the fact that really, he’s the source of all of his own frustrations since he was the one who started making sure McMahon took damage.
WWE Champion Jinder Mahal def. Shinsuke Nakamura
Oh boy do people have varying opinions on the outcome of this match. Shinsuke Nakamura was the preferred winner for many, but pretending at this point like the Jinder Mahal Experiment isn’t working is ignoring the evidence. He gets a real reaction now, and received a loud chorus of boos both on the go-home episode of SmackDown Live this week as well as during his entrance to SummerSlam.
However... Jinder also was part of dueling chants. With Shinsuke Nakamura. In the main event for SmackDown on the show. With the WWE Championship on the line. There’s something here: the downside might be that it’s coming at the expense of Shinsuke Nakamura, who still hasn’t even come close to showing who he is capable of being while with WWE.
What we learned: Nakamura was unaware that the Singh Brothers are a trap. Shinsuke: they’re a trap. Please take notes for next time.
On that note, it does feel like Nakamura is the next WWE Champion. He just might need to wait for a later pay-per-view for that to happen.
Brock Lesnar retains the WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, and Roman Reigns
This match was so good that even if you hated the rest of SummerSlam, you probably have positive thoughts about the show on the whole. It was maybe the best Fatal 4-Way of its kind that WWE has done with the men, as it was near constant action until no one had the ability to stand up and make action happen anymore.
Braun Strowman did not become Universal Champion here. He did, however, become the force to be reckoned with in WWE even with Lesnar retaining. Strowman beat the absolute hell out of Lesnar, and repeatedly tossed him around like it took no effort. He put Lesnar through two announce tables, and flipped the third announce table on top of him. He used his running powerslam again and again and again, and Lesnar barely had anything left in the tank. The only reason Strowman isn’t Universal Champion right now was because he ended up being the one everyone ganged up on, as Lesnar’s manager Paul Heyman feared would happen to his own client.
Even that double-team (and sometimes triple-team) action didn’t quite work out the way Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, and Brock Lesnar hoped all of the time, because there was still infighting to take advantage of:
BUSY BRAUN'S BIG DAY! http://pic.twitter.com/GOb7Am6aVf
— TDE Wrestling (@totaldivaseps) August 21, 2017
What we learned: Lesnar retained, which means he isn’t running away to UFC as was threatened. Braun Strowman ended up being the single most dangerous entity in a match that also featured Brock Lesnar, so, that’s a thing. Since Roman Reigns took the pin, both Strowman and Joe were protected — none of these four looked bad. Everyone looked amazing. Some of the competitors just looked a little bit more amazing than others, forcing an entire audience in Brooklyn and at home to realize simultaneously that they need Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman one-on-one at WrestleMania 34.

Monday Night Raw review- December 18th, 2017
Hello hello! I hope everyone had a good Monday! I took my dad to see Star Wars and this was my second time seeing it and I still loved it so much and I cry every time I see my Princess Carrie Fisher on the screen. Now it’s time for Raw!
Please let me know what you thought of the show and this review! Any type of feedback is appreciated! Thanks very much!
Opening- The biggest bullshit I’ve ever seen in my life..
I can’t believe this. I’m actually so mad at this. Do I really want to see Braun vs. Kane vs. Brock at the Royal Rumble? NO, I DON’T! I want to see the guy who deserves to be in the title picture; a Mr. Finn Balor! As a fan of Finn, I want to see him with the title, of course, that’s me being biased. But we’ve already seen Braun against Brock, and I personally don’t want to see it again. When you throw Kane in the match, who was thrown in for no reason and isn’t he supposed to be running for Mayor somewhere that isn’t here? It’s just stupid, and it sucks as a wrestling fan to see the same stories and the same people fighting for the title, when there are clearly better talents to contend for this title! I’m very upset, I hope things change after this. I’m feeling a little salty now.
Seth v. Samoa Joe, oh wait, it’s Jason Jordan?
At first, I was really hyped to see this match, but then it, unfortunately, turned into Jason against Seth, and no one was happy about that. I haven’t always been super vocal about how much I like Seth, but I really like Seth. I think he’s great in the ring and only continues to get better. I really liked when Joe came out and he was like, “I’m the popular boy and everyone wants to dance with me!” That was fantastic! Before the match was going to start, Jordan pushed Seth down like a weenie, and was that supposed to make me believe that this made Seth mad and want to wrestle Jordan?? And of course, Joe is going to join them at ringside. Jordan started this match off with some nice amateur collegiate wrestling moves, which I can appreciate since I wrestled in high school. As much as I hate Jordan, and I really do hate him, his in-ring performance has been really impressing me and improving over the past few weeks. Perhaps Jordan has some in the back coaching him a bit and giving him some direction? Jordan had a cool Boston Crab looking hold on Seth, and for me, Seth was overselling just a bit too much. My favorite move in the match was the beautiful suicide dive that Seth did on Jason, but I don’t understand Seth’s new finisher with that weird knee thing? How is that supposed to be believable to me as something that would knock someone out in a match? Anyway, I love seeing destructive Joe, and I wish I didn’t have to see Jason Jordan again.
Finn Balor aka Smiley Boy v. Miztourage in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match
Finn’s smile almost made me cry, it made me really emotional. At least he’s smiling while the company screws him over. I won’t be over that smile for the next week it made my heart grow! I’m done with seeing him take on the Miztourage and keep them busy for The Miz, but maybe this could turn into a feud between him and The Miz? I would want to see that! I can already tell you that this match is going to end in a DQ and Miztourage is just going to gang up on Finn. WHEN THE NETWORK CAME BACK FROM COMMERCIAL FINN HAD THE BIGGEST SMILE ON HIS FACE AND I’M SO EMOTIONAL I LOVE HIM A LOT I’M SO SORRY. I have a feeling, at the beginning of this match, that Axel and Dallas are going to be classic heels and run away from Finn a lot. I think Finn is doing fine in this handicap match, and I think his stamina can keep him going. Finn is keeping good control of the match, and I’m happy this is getting more time than I thought it was going to get! Axel through Finn into the corner pretty hard, and I like the intensity that the Miztourage is bringing tonight. Finn went for the Coup de Grace, and this match is now ending like I thought it would with the attack and gang up on Finn. OH HEY IT’S HIDEO! This is like when Finn debuted on NXT and they teamed up! So cute, but I really hope this means that Finn isn’t moving to the Cruiserweights to team with Hideo? I’m sure Finn would do great and excel, but no, he’s a main roster guy. I’m glad Finn looked happy, and I hope something better comes his way soon.
Finn and Hideo v. Miztourage
What a pleasant surprise! More Finn! And now this is a tag match! Curtis with a nice backbreaker to Finn, which turned into nice pressure from Miztourage. I’m so happy that this segment/match wasn’t over because I was ready for them to move on, now only if commentary would stop talking about other things other than this match. Again, I really hope this doesn’t mean that Finn will move with Hideo, but we’ll see. Hideo looks phenomenal in this match, and he’s not stopping his attack! He got the pin with a weird looking GTS on Curtis, but I’m glad Hideo had his moment to shine on Raw. Finn is such a good pal, I’m happy I got a lot of Finn time tonight.
Drew Gulak v. Cedric Alexander
I hope that this match impresses me! I’ve been very happy with 205′s as of late, and I hope for great things with this match. Drew Gulak saying he’s a Jar Jar Binks was pretty good, but not everyone is going to understand that comment I guess. Drew is also a great actor, and had a fantastic reaction to Cedric when his music dropped. I don’t know if Drew is a good wrestler or not, but he looks like he knows where to fall! I didn’t want to hear Enzo on commentary at all, and it’s taking away from the match. Cedric is a great athlete, and he looks at home in the cruiserweight division. Before the commercial break, not much has happened, but Cedric does seem to have the upperhand, but he may not be the favorite to win this match! I know I’d love to see Gulak win here! With the return of the show, Gulak has the upperhand! Gulak has had the past two pins on Cedric, but Cedric has kicked out. Enzo is the worst on commentary and he won’t shut up and he won’t let anyone else talk, and he’s not talking about anything! I hate it! Everyone was trying to tell him to stop, but he was just getting angry about it! A good pinning sequence showed some great technical skills from both of these guys, but then Cedric had a great flip that turned Gulak inside out and pinned Gulak, with a kickout at two and a half! Gulak caught a kick from Cedric and turned into a nice an ankle lock, but Cedric grabbed the ropes for a force break! Enzo finally left commentary to the back, but Gulak chopped Cedric right in the throat! Cedric delivered a great elbow that caught Gulak right in the mouth, and Cedric picked up the win. A pretty great show by these two guys, I’m happy with what I saw from them!
Asuka v. Alicia Fox
Not that I don’t love Asuka or anything, but I don’t really want to see this rematch again. Absolution will probably interfere again, and then this will be over. I hope Asuka gets good tv time, but I also hope that this match turns out to be a great one! I want to see Alicia actually fight tonight! For the most part, so far, we are getting a match, and Alicia is holding her own. I love Alicia’s character a lot, and she does it well. Alicia delivered an awesome Northen Lights suplex, which turned into a nice technical hold. Michael Cole and Booker T will not shut up, and commentary is really getting on my nerves tonight. Alicia tapped out to the armbar from Asuka, and thankfully Absolution didn’t ruin the match! Not such a great match, but a really great showing from both of these women that I love!
Six Man Tag Match- Jason/Shield v. The Bar/Joe
Did we all really have to suffer and see Jason again in the ring? I’d rather not see this again. Also, why do we have to keep seeing The Bar vs. The Shield? I’m a little sick of it! So far, this match hasn’t shown me much, but I think Dean is playing off a shoulder injury? We saw Seth and Jordan in the match, but Dean is mostly out of the way? Rollins is taking a lot of pressure in this match, but I love seeing Joe being destructive and steam-rolling through people. Cesaro is still really great with the mouth guard, and it looks like all rumors of Sheamus being injured have been thrown away because Sheamus is doing amazing. Rollins has not been able to make a tag in what seems like an hour, so hopefully the team of the good guys can get in and end this match. Sheamus was rammed shoulder-first into the ring post, and it looked like Rollins was going to tag out, but Cesaro came in and dragged him back last minute. Cesaro is showing great strength with Rollins, but now everyone is fighting outside the ring, which is looking a little messy, and the cameraman is not set up in the best spot. Seth was looking for a tag again, but got nowhere as the bar and Joe stopped him. Seth did another suicide dive, and now is Dean’s chance to sell his elbow, and The Bar gets the win for their team with Joe. If Dean really is injured, I wish him a speedy recovery, and maybe this will be the beginning of the separation of the Shield?
Heath Slater/Rhyno v. The Revival
Hey! The Revival is back! This is pretty awesome to see! It was so unfortunate that these guys got injured when they were trying to make their starts on the main roster, so hopefully they can stay healthy and happy and make their way to obtain the tag titles. A good start so far from Heath and Rhyno, and I can’t believe that these guys took off as a team. Scott Dawson is showing so much power, and I think this team really needs to make a statement and make up a lot of lost time. Heath caught Dawson with a great high kick to the head, and both teams need to rally and pick it up. A sneaky tag, and the Revival hit their amazing finisher to get the win! Welcome back boys!
Six Women Tag Team Match- You Know Who v. You Know Who with a SPECIAL FANTASTIC ANNOUNCEMENT
So Elias decided he wanted to start this match I guess? Kinda funny, but I only want him here if he’s going to wrestle, honestly. All the women coming out to interrupt Elias was nice because they got a great crowd reaction. And I’m very happy to see the women get the main event spot tonight! They obviously deserve it! Mickie and Paige start this match, and I love having Mickie back and looking strong. Already with a tag to Sasha, and then Paige tags in Mandy Rose. I’m tired of the commentary table talking about how sexy she is, talk about her strength and ability. Sonya then with a tag in, and Absolution with some tornado tagging going on. Paige is back, stomping away at Sasha. I don’t want this match to end with a fluke, let these fantastic women wrestle! Sasha had a great top rope move that I don’t know the name of, but I guess it doesn’t matter because it ended with a DQ, and now all the women are on their way to the ring to deal with Absolution. Nia came first, and I just love her and what she brings to the table (but NOT THE STUFF WITH ENZO THAT CAN BE DONE). NIA DID A DOUBLE SAMOAN DROP AND IT WAS SO GREAT, and then Paige got an attack on Nia, and now the rest of the women’s locker room is here. Stephanie is now on her way to the ring, wearing a not so good leather dress, but I’m wondering what she has to say. OH MAN SHE ANNOUNCED THE FIRST EVER WOMENS ROYAL RUMBLE IM SO EMOTIONAL THIS IS SO AMAZING THE WOMEN ARE MAKING HISTORY AND IM JUST SO PROUD AND HAPPY I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS NOW! AAAH!
This was a pretty decent show! I thought it was much better than last week’s for sure, except for that awful beginning tonight that I’m still very salty about. I’m glad Finn got a lot of time and that he was just so smiley, my heart feels so big tonight. I am also so happy for the women and the history that they are continuing to rewrite and create. Lastly, I was a little surprised that there was no Roman! Not that I missed him, but it was weird not to have him on the show. I hope you all enjoyed the show! Let me know your thoughts on the show!
Stay tuned for more reviews and posts throughout the week! Happy Holidays everyone!

A Definitive Ranking of 61 Matches I Saw Wrestlemania Weekend
1.     DIY v The Revival v AOP
It says a lot about the quality of a match when even a terrible result doesn’t ruin it. 14,000 strong in The Amway Center chanting “bullshit” at the ending might sour this match for some, but it was still match of the weekend for me. Sure we all know wrestling is “fake,” but that doesn’t stop us from wanting our faves to have it all. DIY and The Revival are two of the most beloved tag teams in the past 5 years. The Authors of Pain are…well it works in about 100 different ways to say they’re “getting there.” The match started as it should have, two rivals with a mutual respect targeting the outsiders, the champions. Both to get them out of the way and to eliminate the biggest threat. Unfortunately, their rivalry, and The Revival’s natural tendency towards sneakiness, cost them the match. Great story, great spots (the suplex to the outside was insane), and, it turns out, a great goodbye for The Revival on NXT.
2.     Ricochet v Keith Lee
Honestly any Keith Lee match could have made this spot. This happened to be the first Keith Lee match I saw (ever), but I think it earns it’s spot as #2 on its own merit as well. Keith Lee dominated early on, as a dude of his size should, pulling out gradually more and more insane agility and aggression as Ricochet proved unpinnable. Ricochet, too, stepped up his game as the match progressed, hitting high spots with a speed rarely seen outside of, well, Ricochet matches. Little guys beating big guys clean are always hard to book, but Ricochet’s win here looked natural and believable.
3.     Donovan Dijak v Keith Lee
After seeing two great matches where Keith Lee took on little guys, it was great to see him take on “Tall Don,” as Dijak had branded himself in the previous match. I’ve always been a huge fan of Dijak’s work for a big man, but he pulled out all the stops here, stepping up his game, presumably in response to the insane buzz surrounding Keith Lee after his first 2 matches of the weekend. If you’ve never seen 2 guys over 260 pounds hit a Canadian Destroyer, it truly is a sight.
4.     Jericho v Kevin Owens
Jericho and Owens had the best story and rivalry going in to Wrestlemania, but few had them pegged for the best match. Their chemistry, which has shone since August, was especially great here, with each wrestler busting out crazy counters to each others’ moves. The Owens fingertip spot pumped up the whole crowd, and the finish seemed worthy of this match and feud.
5.     South Pacific Power Trip v Sami Calahan and Shane Strickland
I came into this weekend having never heard of the South Pacific Power Trip, but these two won over American audiences in a way comparable to the way Keith Lee did this weekend. This match was the kind of wild tag match that doesn’t usually work. Ref not paying attention to tags or legal men, seeming like a tornado match most of the time, but the insane amount of spots these 4 men were able to cram into their match made it worth it. If all clusterfuck tag matches were booked this well I’d stop complaining about who the legal man is and the ref’s slow or disregarded 5 count.
6.     Matt Riddle v Dan Severn
This match sounded ridiculous on paper. An MMA guy still new to pro wrestling versus a 58-year-old MMA guy who had a forgettable pro wrestling career in a pro wrestling match, all taking place after 2 am. Dan Severn, however, doesn’t take any challenge lightly and was up for this challenge. Worked MMA style matches can be extremely entertaining a la New Japan or dull exhibitions that lack the surprise of an actual MMA match, this was the latter, seeming more like an MMA match without any of the bullshit. Severn and Riddle both looked like champions, despite the odd crowd and late hour.
7.     AJ Styles v Shane McMahon
AJ fans had every right to be mad about this match. Perhaps the most over, most talented guy in the company versus the boss’s son, the guy who wrestles spotfests to greater and greater diminishing returns every event. What we got, though, was the best Wrestlemania opener since Wrestlemania 10 (the best PPV opener of all time btw). AJ got to be dominant for the most part, Shane got to bust out his best wrestling since his return, and we all got the result we, honestly, knew we were going to get.
8.     Zack Sabre Jr v Michael Elgin
I caught four Zack Sabre Jr matches last weekend, all great, but this one in particular really spoke to me. Big Mike came out ready to go, Zack, in his typical Extremely Chill style, was ready to meet his challenge. The beauty of ZSJ matches is how much damn sense it all makes, from the way he slowly pushes your leg down to get you on the ground to his subtle hand work when applying a hold. Big Mike answered all of Sabre’s attacks in typical Big Mike fashion, but ultimately the match made Zack’s victory make sense.
9.     Keith Lee v Lio Rush
Alright, this is the last time I talk about Keith Lee, I swear (I only caught 3 of his matches last weekend). Even though I had just seen Keith perform hours before (against a significantly better opponent) and knew exactly what he was capable of, Keith still made my jaw drop each time he hit the air. His second rope moonsault is a thing of beauty. Keith also added in a lot more heel work in this match than in his previous matches, which I loved. The soft-spoken Keith telling the brash Lio Rush to bask in his glory added the final puzzle piece to make Keith Lee a truly can’t-miss wrestler. This match suffered because it went a little shorter than the other two, and because once you’ve seen Keith Lee work Ricochet, can you really see Keith Lee work ANY other high-flyer?
10. Hardyz v Sheamus and Cesaro v The Club v Enzo and Cass
Sometimes the best surprises are the ones you see coming. The Hardyz were in Orlando. The tag title match had been awkwardly shoehorned into a ladder match at the last minute despite Cesaro, Sheamus, Enzo, Cass, Gallows, or Anderson having any history with ladders or high-flying acumen to speak of. Still, when New Day came out in their gear to announce a 4th team, I couldn’t tell if I was being worked, or worked into thinking I was being worked. Despite thinking it had a 60% chance of happening, I cheered the Hardyz return like it was a surprise. Matt and Jeff hit all of their moves perfectly, something I would never have believed 5 years ago, and most teams had a signature spot to shine.
11. HHH v Seth Rollins
WWE’s unique (and scary) blending of fact and fiction regarding Seth Rollins’ knee injury both going into and during this match made HHH’s knee-based offense during most of this match a little hard to watch. And I LOVED it for that. The endless pedigree reversals, Steph’s table spot, and their spectacular entrances (Trips, the King, with a motorcade; Seth, the Kingslayer, carrying a torch for his past wrongs) made sure the crowd was behind this long match, late in the show, 100%.
12. Darby Allin v Ethan Page
This seemed like an odd choice to main event the second evolve show of the evening, but once I saw all that these two had planned, I realized how impossible it would have been for anyone else to follow it. The buildup to this match was intriguing, but extremely awkward, when Priscilla Kelly (swoon) distracted Ethan Page the night prior while a group of clown medics in blood-stained garb carried out a bodybag. Unfortunately, the medics and body bag were quickly disposed of, but once Darby was revealed and attacked Ethan even after taking a beating, I got a glimpse of the heart I’d see the next night. This was a crazy spotfest with one main story. Darby Allin, as he stated the night before, won’t let Ethan Page take over Evolve “as long as [his] heart’s beating.” Allin took some incredible spots early in the match that reminded me of the best of Spike Dudley before eventually coming back (with the help of Austin Theory disposing of The Gatekeepers) with two huge dives of his own to defeat All Ego.
13. Nicole Matthews v Shotzi Blackheart
This match told a perfect story without any words. Nicole Matthews as the grizzled vet. Angry, defensive, and not ready to let anyone else take the attention she deserves, against Shotzi Blackheart, Shimmer’s Rise of the Phoenix (think Shimmer’s NXT) champion. Shotzi showed a lot of heart in her black heart, hanging with Matthews even when clearly outmatched, particularly by Matthews’ insanely stiff strikes. Nicole Matthews threw out the most impressive sounding chops I heard all weekend. And for me, that means a lot.
14. Zack Sabre Jr. v Mike Quackenbush
Zack Sabre Jr. was scheduled to meet Chikara’s extremely impressive big man Max Smashmaster on Saturday afternoon, but as soon as Zack hit the ring with a mic, I figured that wasn’t to be. While I wondered who would take on Zack, he got to the point quickly enough, saying he’d been friends with Chikara boss Mike Quackenbush, but was a little jealous that Drew Gulak got a match with him while he hadn’t yet. Quack and Zack had great chemistry in the ring, seemingly talking about each of their chain wrestling exchanges right after they had them. Despit being mostly retired for the past 3 years, Quack was still able to put on a great show with Zack, largely due to their mutual love for their particular style of wrestling.
15. Drew Galloway v Lio Rush
This match was a perfect clash of styles, the strong veteran Galloway against the brash highflyer Lio Rush. Galloway won a great match with an insane spinning Future Shock (made possible by the huge size difference between these two) followed by a piledriver, a move most in attendance had seen him do earlier in the weekend (see below) with disastrous results.
16. Zack Sabre Jr vs ACH
This was an incredibly unique match, and one that I worried might disappoint a little, particularly because I’d been up since 5:30 and it was nearing 11 pm. However, Zack and ACH put on a decent match and kept me entertained. The only big problem with this match is that I never really believed ACH was going to go over.
17. Jimmy Havoc v Zack Sabre Jr
This match opened up the sold-out Progress show Friday afternoon, and these two did not disappoint the 1200 in attendance after a much maligned delay to the show. Havoc probably worked Zack’s style with him better than anyone, while also throwing in his own, harder hitting style, which busted open the busy Zack Sabre Jr so bad that the wound re-opened 4 hours later in this match with Michael Elgin.
18. Pete Dunne v Mark Haskins
Pete Dunne. Coming into this weekend, I was most excited to see him work for the first time than anyone else, becoming obsessed with his bloodthirsty style in the UK Tournament. Dunne didn’t disappoint here, giving Haskins all the underhanded, wonderful stuff I came to love from The Bruiserweight. Haskins, for his part, hung in incredibly well with Dunne, playing the underdog role perfectly and getting some convincing enough nearfalls that by the end of the match I’d stopped cheering the Bruiswerweight and opted for the plucky face.
19. Spring Break Clusterfuck
Given that I was unfamiliar with a lot of the talent signed for this match, that the rules for this match weren’t made clear beforehand, and that some of the other talent hadn’t wrestled, at least in the public eye, in years, I had no idea what to expect from this match. Fortunately, what I got was an entertaining as hell match with some promising new talent, a great showing by Glacier, and, believe it or not, a great story, which was set up in what I thought was just a funny throwaway video before the event. Jimmy Lloyd took the win, but All Ego Ethan Page was the star of the match.
20. Ginny v Toni Storm
I didn’t know anything about the women of Progress going into this match, but within 3 minutes of the match starting I knew what I needed to know. Toni Storm was strong as hell and wanted to throw Ginny around as much as she could. Ginny, despite being a fashionista, had a terrible attitude and some great kicks. This match played itself out as a great clash between those two styles, and Ginny winning with her feet on the ropes was a fantastic heel move, the quality of which is rarely seen.
21. Bayley v Charlotte v Sasha v Nia
The best part about this match was the opening spot, in which Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha, who had clearly seen the Revival/AoP/DIY match and knew that the only way to continue on was to eliminate Nia first. I thought that once this was over, 3 of the 4 horsewomen would have a triangle elimination match for the ages. Instead, the three were rushed through two quick, uneventful falls where the finishes seemed to come out of nowhere. The fast paced nature of the match still gave Charlotte and Bayley time to shine, but why book a 4-way if you’re only going to feature two women?
22. Matt Riddle vs Drew Galloway
Evolve 80 started out with a piledriver through a table. The rest of the match was, as it should have been, fast, violent, and honestly pretty one-sided. Galloway looked strong here, and it gave Riddle a bit of an edge I hadn’t seen him have before, but seeing Riddle work 3 more matches (and knowing he worked way more) days and even hours after the table spot took a lot of the shine off of it.
23. Mike and Don v Yehi and Williams
When this match started I thought “how the hell are they going to book themselves out of this one,” since it seemed impossible that Big Mike and Tall Don could lose to Evolve darlings Catch Point. I almost thought we might get a title change, but ultimately Catch Point won the way that tag teams should, by being a tag team and out teamworking their bigger, stronger opponents.
24. Eddie Kingston v Matt Tremont
There was color in this match within 3 minutes, brother, along with a plastic fork and table spots. This match was a pitch perfect study in how hardcore wrestling should work. It was bloody, it was real, and both wrestlers looked very tough.
25. Joey Janela v Marty Jannetty
I was VERY nervous going into this match. What was Marty going to look like? How embarrassing was it going to be to watch? Fortunately Marty didn’t look terrible and the match was the fun kind of overbooked mess that made it incredibly entertaining to watch.
26. Goldberg v Brock Lesnar
These two did what they had to. It wasn’t 90 seconds. It wasn’t 20 minutes. It was 4+ minutes of unlimited signature and special moves. It was the match we deserved 13 years ago. I’m still mad it was for a title.
27. Dulce Garcia v KellyAnne
As far as I know there wasn’t any history between these two women, but they soon made the decision to turn their match into a grudge match, taking the action to the floor and connecting with stiff chops that absolutely lit up Dulce’s chest. I loved the speed and aggression these two worked with. Garcia winning with rolling suplexes was awesome.
28. Tyler Bate v Mark Andrews
Tyler Bate, more than the other two members of British Strong Style, found himself in a less than ideal situation at the Progress show, cheered by American fans who know the whitebread UK Champion babyface Tyler rather than the heel BSS Tyler he portrays in Progress. Fortunately, putting him up against Mark Andrews, one of the best faces in wrestling, helped. This match was great, Tyler’s airplane spin is so incredibly over and fun to see live.
29. Asuka v Ember Moon
This match was disappointing, but it’s clear that it was supposed to be. While I was expecting a coronation for Ember, it’s clear that this match instead was put on to keep both women strong and (hopefully finally) turn Asuka heel. Asuka has, in my opinion, clearly been a heel since her match with Mickie in November, but her astounding charisma and strong booking has kept the fans intrigued. Hopefully NXT can fully commit to a heel Asuka.
30. Undertaker v Roman Reigns
I can’t decide if this match is where it should be, belongs lower due to the match quality, or belongs higher due to it’s implications. Undertaker is one of my top 5 favorite wrestlers of all time, so I can’t be unbiased. Seeing Undertaker retire was bittersweet, I was happy I got to be there, sad I won’t see him again, happy for him to finally be able to rest, sad that he wasn’t able to go out with a better match, etc. Honestly if Roman goes heel I think the whole thing might be worth it, he’ll make Vince so much damn money as a bad guy and hopefully the Dead Man doesn’t become a Stone Cold, Ric Flair, or Shawn Michaels, showing back up so often that it doesn’t mean anything any more.
31. Candice LaRae v Mercedes Martinez
I hadn’t seen much Shimmer recently, but damn The Trifecta are awesome. Nicole Savoy is an incredibly talented wrestler turned incredibly talented manager during her injury. Candice is an incredible babyface in peril, and although going in I didn’t think we had much chance of seeing a title change, there were a few near falls here where I thought it was going to happen. In the end Mercedes got the win as expected, but this match kept me in suspense way more than I expected.
32. Matt Riddle v Fred Yehi
Not following Evolve regularly, I didn’t care much about the Catch Point rivalry story, but damn did these two have a great match. Mania weekend made me a huge Matt Riddle fan, and Fred Yehi is a great worker. This match didn’t need a story to rule.
33. Cherry Bomb v Alex Windsor
Allie is an incredibly likable babyface on Impact Wrestling, so seeing her work heel twice Mania weekend was a damn revelation. Cherry Bomb was wonderful in the opener to the Shimmer show, having the cocky character, in-ring banter, and talent to get a crowd, even one who might have otherwise been prepared to cheer her, to boo her. Alex Windsor looked strong in this match too, but Cherry’s heel antics really stole the show.
34. 6 Way Womens Match
This match really was booked for one reason, to get Naomi the big hometown win. I loved seeing her get it, I loved seeing her use the anaconda vice. While all 6 Smackdown women deserved a Wrestlemania match, there wasn’t quite enough time to properly feature everyone.
35. Aleister Black v Andrade Cien Almas
This match was exactly what we needed from Aleister Black. We got to see a great entrance (and great theme) from him, got introduced to his creepy, gothic charisma, and got to see his great Muay Thai strikes. Andrade Cien Almas is a fantastic heel who I hope never gets lost in the shuffle.
36. Mt. Tessa v Kay Lee Ray and Mia Yim
I loved the story of this match. Tessa Blanchard and Vanessa Kraven got into it halfway through the match after an accidental hit was followed by a hit on purpose to almost give Kay Lee and Mia the belts in the best near-fall of all the WWN shows. Mia and Kay Lee Ray are incredibly likeable babyfaces, while Tessa Blanchard is an absolutely brilliant heel. Did I spend a lot of this match fantasy booking Vanessa Kraven (or someone of a similar stature) running roughshod over 205 Live? Yes I did. If you’re doing that too, you’re welcome.
37. Sanity v Ty Dillinger, Ruby Riot, Kassius Ohno, and Roderick Strong
While I think we all wanted to see Ty Dillinger’s first big win (can you believe we’ve been waiting 2 years for that?), a good debut for Kassius and Ruby, and more good things for Roderick Strong until they actually come up with something for him, I do have to say that Sanity winning here made sense. Teams should always beat non-teams.
38. Bobby Roode v Shinsuke Nakamura
Talking about this match with someone beforehand we said “well, the entrances are going to be great, and Bobby Roode knows how to tell a story.” Both of those things were true. I find Bobby and Shinsuke to have absolutely no chemistry, so it was interesting to see what they could accomplish using WWE booking. The near falls were great, the moments were great, Kenny Omega was absolutely correct in calling this a 3-star match. I’m excited to see Shinsuke move on and Bobby to hopefully find an opponent more suited for him (I think Bobby and Kassius Ohno could have some great matches).
39. Catch Point v Kincaid, Theory, Guevara
Jason Kincaid quickly became one of my favorite wrestlers at the Evolve show. I loved his unique look, weird mountain yogi gimmick, and his ring work to back it up. Unfortunately, teaming him with what seemed like 2 people at random against an established team like Catch Point made for a lot of great high spots, but didn’t make the most sense overall.
40. Sami Calahan v Kyle The Beast
I think Solomon Crowe did a lot to turn me on Sami Calahan, all of his work Mania weekend, though, got me back on the Calahan train. Sami has an incredible energy in the ring and Kyle The Beast was able to match it full force. Sami put over Kyle after the match in an unexpected show of respect.
41. Matt Riddle v Trent Seven
Trent Seven got to be the only purely booed member of British Strong Style at the Progress show by taking on the incredibly characmatic Matt Riddle. These two put on a great showcase of “Big Lads Wrestling.”
42. Los Ice Creams v Solo Darling and Travis Huckabee v Hallowicked and Frightmare v Silver and Fire Ant
This match was fun, even if the result was a little predictable. Los Ice Creams’ humor doesn’t always translate watching online, but either these two were on their game or they’re much funnier live. Solo Darling as a sugar-obsessed maniac trying to eat Los Ice Creams and missing an opportunity for a tag to eat skittles was great too.
43. Leva Bates v Lufisto
Leva Bates came out as Tina Belcher and seemed to wrestle the entire match in character, even as her wig started to fall off halfway through the match. True to character, Leva used a lot of butt-based offense during the match, but was ultimately overpowered by an awesome heel Lufisto.
44. Jason Kincaid vs Lio Rush vs Jaka
I was intrigued by the singles match that was booked, but Lio Rush added a lot to it. The showy Lio Rush and nothing-but-business Jaka fed off Jason Kincaid’s weirdo character well.
45. Shayna Baszler v Santana Garrett
Shayna Baszler rules. I loved seeing an MMA-inspired offense in a women’s match, particularly on an all-womens show. Santana Garrett put up a good fight, but seeing her go down to Shayna (and props again to the charismatic Nicole Savoy as Shayna’s manager) seemed like a foregone conclusion.
46. Samantha Heights vs Veda Scott vs Britt Baker vs Nevaeh
This was a fun four-corners match. Veda Scott, as usual, excelled in in-ring chatter, asking her opponents to take it easy on her given that she very publically chipped a few teeth 2 nights earlier at Joey Janela’s Spring Break. Britt Baker looked like an incredibly strong face in this win, her Shimmer Debut.
47. Braxton Sutter and Allie v Andy Williams and Penelope Ford
Braxton Sutter and Allie were incredible heels in this match, immediately getting over their opponents of non-wrestler Andy Williams and Penelope Ford, who has a lot of cool moves, but needs some development as far as putting them together. This was an incredibly fun tag match, made even more fun by being intergender, rather than mixed tag. After the match the guy sitting next to me agreed: We want to see more Andy Williams in the ring.
48. Timothy Thatcher v Chris Dickinson
These two wrestled a very similar, physical, style that was nice to see in complement to each other. Kind of was booked in a death slot right after Galloway piledrove Matt Riddle through a table.
49. ACH v Timothy Thatcher
Poor Timmy Thatcher, this was his second match booked in an absolute death slot, having to follow Keith Lee vs Donovan Dijak. I’m sure I’d enjoy a Timothy Thatcher match a lot more if it were booked in a good slot.
50. The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
I don’t like Battle Royals, I didn’t like even more that crowd favorites Sami Zayn and Luke Harper were eliminated without much incident. While the end result was predictable when we got to the final six or so, seeing Rob Gronkowski get involved (and the crowd reaction to him getting involved) was a lot of fun.
51. Black, Blonde, and Neon v The Gatekeepers
A great squash match. The Gatekeepers rule in matches like this.
52. James Drake v Rockstar Spud
Chanting “He’s got his own face, on his ass” was the highlight of this match. Rockstar Spud is incredibly charismatic, but it didn’t seem to come off too well in this match.
53. Jesicka Havok v Cat Power
This was a really fun, hard hitting match between two tough women and was a great example of the variety a Shimmer show can give you. My big complaint was that Havok was both much bigger than her opponent and a face, but Cat Power worked her over most of the match without using any underhanded tactics.
54. Dean Ambrose v Baron Corbin
I’m not sure if these two had a generic Smackdown match because they were on the preshow or if they were moved to the preshow because they had planned a boring Smackdown match. After what he said about last year’s Mania fiasco, I expected Dean Ambrose to bring something great to this match. He didn’t. The end sequence was good, but it didn’t make up for this match.
55. John Cena and Nikki Bella v The Miz and Maryse
I know, I know. It’s not about the match, it’s about the moment after. Still, as a huge fan of everything Cena and Miz have done in 2016 and 2017, this match was a damn disappointment.
56. Sea Stars and Obariyon v Sea Monsters
What was, for most people, the 8th of 10 shows at the WWN live center, the Chikara show really suffered a lot. Sea Stars and Obariyon opened the show up against the Sea Monsters, with the face team working really hard, but the match suffered from the crowd fatigue.
57. Missile Assault Man v Kobald
Missile Assualt Man is a great wrestler, but honestly he needs to go back under a mask. He radiated charisma as Missile Assault Ant, but needs to work on his facial expressions outside of it.
58. Wani v Space Monkey
This match had some fun moments, but the end of the match and title change really seemed to come out of nowhere. Also if Wani is using some sort of “mysterious foreigner” gimmick, why are all of his moves just American indie moves?
59. Ophidian v Jeremy Leary
Jeremy Leary showed some good heel energy, but I felt like there was an aspect of his gimmick I didn’t really get. The end of this match was very confusing, with Ophidian using his trademark snake hypnosis and it for some reason not working on Jeremy, it was never explained why.
60. All Ego Ethan Page v Austin Theory
Not knowing much about Evolve before the match, I saw this as a squash match immediately following The Gatekeeper’s squash match. This one wasn’t as fun.
61. Bray Wyatt v Randy Orton
The projection stuff was kind of cool, I guess, but with the exception of that every aspect of this match disappointed me, including the lackluster entrances for both men. I probably came into this match expecting too much (given Randy’s past Mania matches and Bray’s recent work I thought this had the potential for match of the night).
 Matches I missed:
Ultramantis Black vs. Juan Francisco de Coronado:
I had to leave Chikara (which started late) early in order to make it to the Amway Center in time for NXT (and to see the taped matches before the show). Honestly only the last taping match was worth it so I should have waited.
Austin Aries vs. Neville
You try getting to wrangling your sister, her husband, and your 2-year-old niece to Wrestlemania on time. Also I went into this assuming there would only be two pre-show matches, so one wouldn’t start before 6 pm.
Most of the Andre the Giant Invitational:
But I watched it on the Network getting in and caught the last half so I’m counting it as seen.
Matches I’m not counting (But am counting toward my Wrestler Seen count):
Pre-NXT Takeover tapings: Honestly these were 3 pretty boring matches, the pre Takeover tapings are never anything to write home about.
Post-NXT Takeover tapings: These are TV Tapings, because of that there’s a lot of squash matches, feud building, etc. Ranking these matches alongside these matches, most of which had a big-event feel, would be unfair.
