Fruits Basket 10 - 11 | Sarazanmai 10 - 11 (FINAL) | BSD 35 | Gakuen Babysitters OVA | Demon Slayer 11 | Shield Hero 23 - 24 | OPM 23 |
Fruits Basket 10
*sees Kagura* - Kyo! RUN! (Also, I had to google this…but “Je t’aime” means “I love you” in French.)
(TW: suicide discussion) Ohh…this is Mitchan…I didn’t recognise her, now that she’s coloured in. (I forgot that she had suicidal tendencies for the funnies…the 90s have some really nasty things in them when it comes to sensitive topics, like playing “being gay” as a joke and playing off suicide as a joke is one of the worst, I think.) Update: Accidentally mistook Mitchan for Mine, Ayame’s assistant.
Sarazanmai 10
So close to the end…I read a bunch of spoilers on what’s coming up though, so not much will be a surprise anymore…
Why do otters have hands…? (Or at least, this one does.)
Kanten…apparently it’s basically agar but with a different type of seaweed.
The chyron actually says Enta no Seishin Sekai, which translates to something like Enta’s Spiritual World. Y’know, like the world of the soul inside you or something like that.
I sort of assumed either Enta or Mabu would become a monster, based on people’s speculation, but the spoilers I read never stated anything about who became the monster/s in episode 10 (and/or 11). So this’ll be interesting.
I never thought Mabu would be going solo, although my sources did spoil me on the fact Reo would become a kappa.
Hey, I said to Irina earlier today that I knew there was tragic yaoi/shonen ai. Welp, there it is. Tragic shonen ai.
Oh…there’s a single shadow. It’s just Kazuki.
I was pleading for Enta to be saved by the dishes…and turns out I was right.
Update: Come to think of it, Reo and Mabu greatly resemble the Kunzite/Zoicite romance from Sailor Moon…right down to the “servants of the prince” thing.
BSD 35
Flashback Kyouka reminds me of Rachel Gardener (Angels of Death).
Pay attention to Mii-chan.
Fruits Basket 11
Ritsu!!!...Er, Ritsu’s mum first.
“I wonder if she knows about the zodiac…”
Gakuen Babysitters OVA
Oh…this is 27 minutes. That’s unusual.
I feel sorry for Saikawa already…
How the heck did Saikawa switch clothes so fast?!
Eh…? I didn’t expect Ryuichi to get the top grade…
Come to think of it, Saikawa is an enigma wrapped in a…blanket. Nah, I’m kidding, he’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery. (That’s how that saying goes, anyway.)
LOL, I think he sad the complex dish names just to confuse the kids…and maybe scare off Ryuichi.
Oh no, what is it now? What horrors shall we bear witness to? (sarcastic, but laughing a bit too)
Inomata…makes a really good Snow White.
Ya-who…? Who in heck is Yayoi???
Oh…if you watch to the very end, you’ll see a shot of the chairwoman as a kid! I didn’t think we’d ever get to see that.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 11
A tsuzumi seems to be a type of drum, if the kanji is anything to go by…at least, from my recognition of the kanji for “Tsuzumi”, I seem to recall that first kanji has something to do with drums. Update: Yes, it means “drum”. I recognised it because it’s the Chinese way to write “drum” – I don’t think I’ve seen it in 10 years or so, so...I’m glad I still remember it…(?)
As much as I don’t like seeing slapping a creep as humour…I feel sorry for Zenitsu…
It turns out…this show’s deliberate humour…sucks…
Hey! No suicide jokes, Zenitsu!
The sparrow talking with the crow is far too cute for me. Please protect these precious avian buddies…they warm my heart too much.
“Would you like to eat it?” So onigiri exist in this era?
Since I’m not listening to the sound (I’m in a position where I can’t listen to it, because others are in the vicinity), I don’t quite get what Zenitsu’s on about…but it makes me wonder if Zenitsu has good hearing much like Tanjiro has a good sense of smell. It makes sense since there were 5 of the Final Selection guys…although we don’t know who the 5th is.
*sees eyecatch* - Yeah, as much as Zenitsu complains…I feel sorry for him.
How did Zenitsu survive Final Selection??? The more he panics, the more I wonder that.
There’s a 3D model for Zenitsu too…I should’ve known…
Ooh, pep talk from a kid younger than him (Zenitsu)! Burn!
Okay, Zenitsu, yell it with me – BOARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! (aka Inosuke)
Hey! Don’t just go announcing your name and rank, plus the fact you’re a demon slayer!...By the way, how do you know your rank…?
Aw, just seeing the sparrow in the bottom right corner warms my heart.
“…in front of girls…”
Shield Hero 23
“I forgot that my shield translates for me.” – Only now do I realise how dumb that sounds…
“…small islands bunched together.” – Uh, that’s what archipelago means…?
Where are L’Arc and Therese, anyway…?
The quality of CR videos has been bad lately due to the weather I’ve been getting, so…I was waiting for the video to buffer and I guessed Raphtalia was going to get drunk. She did…*sigh*
Since when does eating wine berries count as “drinking”…?
LOL, those weird birds are called “Karma Penguins”.
I thought Filo’s clothes would tear when she transformed, so making clothes was futile…? Maybe she has more control over her transformation now, so it’s less futile?
Wuh? Gahaha! A penguin suit, with a Santa hat too!
OPM 23 (S2 Ep 10)
King’s shirt says “I <3 Otaku” and I like how Saitama chose a bald character, while King chose a character that looks nicer than Saitama’s but packs a punch. It’s translating the real world into the game world for them.
By the way, Saitama’s shirt is for the Tokimeki Sisters series from earlier in the season.
It seems Metal Bat‘s real name seems to be just that.
Did Tareo keep the Almanac…in his pants???
Sarazanmai 11 (FINAL)
When Keppi says “s***”, I guess he kind of…means it. (small LOL)
Gotta love Keppi’s “dadadadadadaaaaaaaaaaarkness…”. It must’ve been fun for whoever typed it into their program to do so.
When watching in slow-mo, you can see Kazuki’s kappa dish jump off his head for a second.
Wait, so…the episode titles are all taken from their shared future…?! Oh my glob!!!
Kazuki, Enta and Toi’s pro game – brought to you by Asakusa Film, Sozoyu and KAPPA…LOL.
I never knew Sara’s princess outfit could be so…lewd.
Kapamilk, LOL.
Why is this ending only Toi…?
Hmm…is Toi 18 in this end scene???
“Quecrotte” doesn’t seem to mean anything…
How did Enta’s glasses not come off his face???
Aww…please protect this old Toi. He kind of looks like Chikai, but he also doesn’t.
There seems to be a Nakata Building in Asakusa.
I think that’s all folks. See you next time!
Shield Hero 24
Instead of romantic penguin suits, couldn’t someone have invented deep-sea magic for swimming in bikinis or trunks with…?
“Of course, even the ships were arranged for by the queen.” – Now that’s ballin’ on a budget in another world!
Oh, so cohol fruits are the names of the wine berries…
This is just a scene where the camera shakes…it looks nice, but it has a terrible sense of “action”…
Not this Skybound move again…
Not dis “they’re not the real Cardinal Heroes” shitto agen…
I already knew from CR advertising L’Arc and Therese would become Naofumi’s enemies, I just didn’t know when.
Uh, L’Arc? She’s a raccoon girl. A tanuki??? She should be good with illusions…according to stereotype, anyway.
AOE seems to mean “area of effect”.
Is Glass a hero from another world as well, maybe???

One Punch Man 13 (S2 Ep 1) | Afterlost 1 | RobiHachi 1 | Kimetsu no Yaiba 2 - 3 | BSD 25 - 26 (S3 Eps 1 - 2) | King of Prism - Shiny 7 Stars 1 | Shield Hero 14 - 16 | Double Decker! EX 3 | Sarazanmai 2
The shows that have made it this season will be getting their tags...soon. Because I fell behind early in the season, trying to read ahead is nastier than it really should be...
Update: I forgot to roll out the tags...! Sorry about that.
One Punch Man 2 1
This season’s name…sounds counterintuitive, to say the least.
I love how Genos is carrying a box of hijiki (which looks like hair) and Saitama’s wearing a shirt that says “hair” (in kanji) all over it. It’s funny for a bald man and his “work of modern art”.
I never knew Genos was so blunt. Maybe because the last season was a good 2 – 3 years ago…and was by Madhouse and Shingo Natsume, and so this feels slightly different.
Oh, Sonic…! I didn’t realise how much I missed you! (Not to mention, you look hot with the off-the-shoulder shirt, y’know?)
“Enoki” is a type of mushroom.
Oh, Garou!...Oh wait, there isn’t much more of the episode left, is there…?
Afterlost 1
Oh great…this is the second time the subs don’t work on my device of choice. Then again, it seems to be a problem with the ad blocker and not the video…Okay, fiddling with the ad blocker worked.
Let’s play Spot the Main Character Amongst All the CGI Guys! Yay! (obviously sarcastic)
Without the volume…this OP is, to not put it lightly, s***.
Shoumetsu means “extinction”, not “lost”.
And the reward for Jankiest CGI this season belongs to…
Okay…this is stupid…if it f**ks up even more, I’m out of here!
I know the horned owl is your mascot, but that doesn’t mean you needed a real owl.
Waittttttttt…how did the scientists know Yuki’s father was responsible for this stuff anyway?
I feel like Takuya was shoehorned in. I mean, there’s a better example of this character type in Naofumi (Shield Hero).
This guy’s name, as we know it, is Geek. Wow (sarcastic). Also, I find it funny Takuya has a “ta” on his licence plate.
“…she’s just a package.” - Welp, you don’t get any more blatant than that for female denigration! I think Anime Feminist had a field day with this one.
Come to think of it, I saw some helmets back at Geek’s place but Takuya never seems to use one…
You had one job, Takuya…*sigh*
I swear I said a few previews ago I don’t like 1st person cam…no one ever listens to me, do they???
Not dis shitto agen!
Okay, enough complaining. It seems Yu-no wasn’t bad enough, so they had to produce something like the Chaos Dragon and Seisen Cerberus of old…
RobiHachi 1
It’s Takamatsu being Takamatsu again. Also… I forgot to mention this earlier, but…Taiga Umatani seems to be related to Kurari Umatani (who is credited for Boueibu), so…I wonder if it’s a collective writer’s name for Studio Comet, like Izumi Todo for Toei? The only thing that goes against that is the fact “Kurari” existed during the Diomedea days of Boueibu. Also Isekandar seems to be related to Yamato’s Iscandar (which Takamatsu seems to like, based on the fact he once used Matsumoto metres as a shorthand for being in space). If you don’t understand, Yamato’s endgoal contains a place called Iscandar and that’s by Leiji Matsumoto.
Okayyyyy…what are these rabbit creatures…? But yes, it does smack of Boueibu simply because the episode layout’s the same.
Hmm…? So Robby seems be En (the do-nothing life) in spirit, but Kinshiro in background, but also he runs away from his fortune. “Hmm” indeed.
Oh! That’s what this string of misfortunes reminds me of! The monsters of the day from Boueibu.
Acrymalide.
Hatchi is a Kinshiro in looks but an Atsushi by being a goody-goody.
Hmm…they actually bother to show girls now…apparently Takamatsu went to a boys-only school, which is why his original works focus on dudes (as in, you can pick out when Takamatsu is adapting someone else’s work because it has a heavier focus on girls as supporting characters).
Mechs and spaceships are probably two of the only ways I accept CGI…and you, Takamatsu sir, have just done it (the latter)!
Aw! Lookit his (Hatchi’s) face light up like a Beppu’s! It’s cute!
Hatchi getting out the hatch…lame, but still somewhat effectve on me (because that’s my wordplay game you’re playing, Takamatsu…!).
LOL, it’s a transforming mech. It seems my words from a few comments earlier were basically foretelling the future.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 2
Yikes, “Sakonji Urokodaki” has a lot of strokes…
My Little Sister Lives For Headpats…hey wait, don’t all anime kid sisters do that(?)
For some reason, I know the “Don’t Lose Your Way” meme from Kill la Kill and yet I’ve never…watched KlK…?(!)
I swore that was Giyu (it’s the haircut, I swear), but it’s a random demon…
When all you have is a hatchet…use your head. (LOL)
Ooh, nice eyecatch!
This is really black comedy, in a sense. (I remember this demon fight from the manga which is why I say that.)
Hmm…this wispy stuff wasn’t in the manga.
Come to think of it, I don’t know how Tanjiro got his scar…
If you squint really hard, you can see CGI Urokodaki and Tanjiro…
He probably has no footsteps because of his shoes. Or the fact he’s a ninja. Were there ninja in the Taisho era…? Update: Tanjiro has the same kind of shoes…oops.
Come to think of it, Daisuke from DN Angel had to dodge traps every day before he became Dark…(thinking of this because I reread the first volume of DN Angel recently)
Oh! Manga panel preview! That’s quite fun, really.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 3
I just really like how Tanjiro’s eyes grew larger with what was clearly resolution before he closed the door.
Why do the non-descript hunters look like Giyu too…?
I’ve never seen KnY so comedic…and that’s coming from someone who thought the Head Demon fight from last episode was funny.
Welp, this is…kinda interesting (<- says a fan of Touken Ranbu).
This letter writing…it reminds me of Kekkai Sensen somewhat.
This realistic water…it’s beautiful, but it looks like it came straight out of Niagara Falls. Is that…too realistic for anime?
“No matter…”
It’s a fox version of Speed of Sound Sonic! Then again, the real Sonic is around this season and probably won’t be happy about that comparison…
Is “that guy”…Giyu? Or the demon who slaughtered Tanjiro’s family?
Spider lilies! I didn’t mention it last time, but the symbolism of the spider lily makes the ED real cool.
Bungou Stray Dogs 26
I’v read the wiki page for Chuuya enough to know the next few eps involve the LN Fifteen, so even though I haven’t read a translation of the source material, I know some of the ins and outs of it already.
Ooh! Kitty! (If you’re a manga reader, you’ll know the cat’s significance.)
I think at this point in time, all viewers are used to Dazai’s bulls*** by now.
Is it just me…or did Bones use CGI for the city? It actually looks kind of good…! Sasuga Bones!
I have a fic that predates Fifteen and could be set in the same period (the fic’s vague enough that it could’ve been them at 15, 18 or even 12)…and basically the only thing I got wrong was the fact Chuuya doesn’t have his hat (because I wrote Chuuya as having his hat in the fic). Also, the banter is tenser than I imagined it, but that’s subjective and something only I, the fic writer, can compare.
I wonder who the yellow-tinted Ability holder is…? Update: That’s Randou. Spoke too soon.
There was a box in the subs…I wonder what symbol that might’ve been.
“…closest to the explosion.”
BSD 3 2
Oh, so that’s what Randou was for! I see now.
Chuuya may be OP, but he’s one heck of a fun character…also, he’s not as OP as Saitama, so…yeah.
Oh, the ED from last time is the OP. I should’ve known.
I like the almost storybook-style of this episode!
I thought Dazai was faking releasing the hostages…I was wrong.
Face-stealing aliens return! (They were around last ep too, I think, but they were harder to see then.)
Again, watch for the cat!
Well, with only one suspect (or 3, if you count the Sheep kids), it was quite easy to figure out one of them was behind it. I kind of suspected Randou, anyway, considering what I’ve learnt from all the mysteries I’ve read.
Because I was watching this episode with the volume down low (so I could hear the OP and ED), the volume really did work wonders for the plot this ep…!
King of Prism – Shiny 7 Stars 1
This is the final debut of the season, so basically how this and Shield Hero perform will decide what will stay and what will go. Oh, yeah…apparently this is the companion to a movie, but the movie and TV series have slightly different content.
This dude’s (the one at the very start’s) so grumpy.
…welp, I didn’t expect it to be that much CGI.
This chunk of exposition…makes me feel like I missed something. It was probably in the previous movies, come to think of it…
Basically, this is…uh, Makura no Danshi or Room Mate all over again??? I’m noping out of here…! Bye!
Shield Hero 14
I’m putting this on the chopping block…just so you know.
…uh, age gap romance? It’s hard to tell at this stage, but they (Filo and Melty) sure act like it is romance.
Welp, this survived the chopping block. “Raphtalia backstory” is a good enough reason to stick around for, isn’t it?
Double Decker! EX 3 (FINAL)
I always miss the OP when I’m not watching Double Decker, but I miss the ED even more…
I can’t believe they tried to get away with a Spirited Away parody…!
I can’t believe I get to see Dr Apple all buttered up like this…
I love how Kirill is censoring himself. (At least he can prove he’s not a girl, unlike Valery/Milla, whose entire shtick is the confusion between genders.)
Oh! I think I know the answer to the case already! It was Kirill’s soap, so Doug is the “killer”. But then…why is it Derick, of all people???
LOL, the angles were so reminiscent of Detective Conan…
Underwear-stealing sextuplets…? Why does that kind of sound like Osomatsu-san…?
Ahh…I really am going to miss this ED. See you next time!
Shield Hero 15
I never thought Raphtalia would be so angry…that’s Naofumi’s job.
Okay…it’s the age-old question: do demis listen with their animal ears or their human ears? Do they even have human ears??? (That’s 2 questions, isn’t it…?)
Uh…CGI dinosaur, much?
Shield Hero 16
…and of course, the Queen is a loli. Of course (<-sarcastic).
“Why’d I even have to feed this KFC farm?” – LOL, but I wonder what it sounded like in Japanese…? (i.e. I didn’t listen to it and when I try to do that, there’s always something over the top of it…)
Sarazanmai 2
I wonder if I’ll ever get used to watching Ikuhara on a weekly basis…?
Kappamaki…geddit?
Wait…y’mean, Keppi’s breath smells like cucumbers? Uh…okay, TMI.
Enta’s Japanese house kind of looks like the one in Mawaru Penguindrum.
Wait…why does the Japanese word for “Fish Buffet” (Osakanazanmai) end in –zanmai? Does that mean Sarazanmai is…Dish Buffet?! (LOL)
Notably, one of the signs said “Union” in katakana. It must be an English play on words…y’know, trade union and union = connecting with each other? I’m surprisingly enjoying myself a lot with Sarazanmai, by the way. I didn’t think I would, but I am!
I think that might be Irohassu water. Or Dasani. I saw both those brands in Japan, but I don’t remember which had the green flowers.
Oh…my goodness! Nekoyama (Cat Mountain) Mokichi (written with kanji for “hair” and “luck”). It’s a Boueibu monster! Frick, I’m laughing too hard!
It’s very small and very thin, but the word next to the cat in the eyecatch is neko.
“…Meow God!” – It’s a pun on “Oh, My God!” but with a “meow” in it. It’s pretty forced, but it does get the nuance of the joke across…
Why the heck did the subbers choose “herb” as the word for weed in this? “Weed” is sufficient, right? Right…?
Well…if that spurt of water wasn’t symbolic…I don’t know what is.
The title translates better as “…but I want to steal”. Y’know, add a little force into it.
The two As and the “sara” below it seem to make a zombie face, huh?
Ooh, that ending…

Sarazanmai 3 - 6 | Fruits Basket 2 - 7 | OPM 2 2 - 7 | BSD 3 3 - 6 | Demon Slayer 4 - 7 | Shield Hero 17 - 20
I’ll be rolling out the tags around about the time of this post.
Sarazanmai 3
Kisu = kissu (kiss). Update: Or kisu (on the right side of my equation). You do you, subbers.
Goma-ae.
Gomennassara! (Oh, I get it…!)
It never occurred to me that a “micanga” was a bead or small pierced round object of some sort. I thought it was a race track sort of thing, but for soccer. Update: It’s a bracelet/anklet thing.
Wait, so what brought on this change of heart from Kazuki??? Is it like the 1st episode, where it was a daydream that was cleverly presented as real? Update: Yep.
Oh…have you noticed all the victims of Reo and Mabu’s scheme are men of the NEET/freeter age, or approaching that?
Notably, the signature pose of the Sarazanmai seems to be similar to the one Kazuki and Enta did in the soccer team.
I find it interesting that Enta is now the initiator of the Sarazanmai and thus the one to steal the shirikodama. I mean, he used to be the one with the least stakes in the Dish of Hope scenario…and now look at him!
Ooh, Toi is sharpening his ruler! (Or whatever you do in Touken Ranbu with that lil’ beater of his.)
Oh wait, I forgot Ikuhara always has a last-minute twist! Go back, go back!
It seems like Haruka has some kind of illness…hmm. Update: Oh, it’s not an illness per se…spoke too soon.
Haruka’s talking about the Little Prince…hmm. Last time I really bothered to engage with that story in any form was Star Driver.
Fruits Basket 2
I don’t think I ever really chose a side on the Kyo vs Yuki debate, but I guess I always subtly sided with Yuki (even though the end pairing is Tohru and *bleep*). <- sorry, had to censor myself
“It’s important for me to get to school every day!”
Kabedon! Eeeeee! (LOL, I really am a squealy person at heart, aren’t I?)
The writing says “she misheard [what Yuki said] as ‘being sick’”, so it was quite lucky that the word “sickened” worked in context.
Yuki has some mad ninja skills…LOL.
Shigure in a suit looks goooooooooood, man (<- gender neutral use of “man”).
“…the days ahead will be fun.” – Oh, Tohru, you don’t know how wrong you are…(says someone who completed the manga)
Fruits Basket 3
I’m hearing the OP for the first time…and it sounds like an ED. (Probably because I read some impressions that said the same thing earlier today.)
“…included in the zodiac?”
Ooh! Momiji! Wait, er…I didn’t expect him to be so high-pitched…
Lookit the tiny cat icon on the side! It’s cute!!!
*yells* It’s Kagura!!!!!!!! She ain’t my favourite, but man, is it great to see another familiar face!
I’ve been wondering what the title meant when it said “what year is she?” It means “year of the zodiac”.
Fruits Basket 4
“Shii-chan”…?
Kyo-kun ran away before Kagura even started making dinner…
Was Kyo’s katsudon a joke…? (Cats-udon, geddit?...No?)
“…marriage is a girl’s greatest dream.” – That used to be so, Tohru…nowadays, it ain’t.
Lookit how Kyo’s eyes lit up when he talks about his teacher!
OPM 2 2
That title’s…even more counterintuitive than “OPM 2 1”…hmm.
It’s…kind of dark right now.
I think there was bourbon on the counter. Someone likes to drink around here…
I guess with the mass animation exodus, OPM seems kinda…monologue-y. And cheap…
…nope, I take back my words. They were merely saving up for this action scene.
BSD 28 (S3 Ep 3)
Seriously, what are those metal things Dazai was wearing? Anyways, I like how it’s absolutely the norm that Chuuya swears now and I was part of forming that. Because I don’t swear a lot, I think Chuuya makes a nice outlet for my own frustrations...that’s what could be said, anyway.
D’aww. Someone acknowledges Chuuya’s identity. Ain’t that grand? (Now you see why I like Chuuya more than Dazai these days, huh?)
Come to think of it…a person hasn’t died in this show for a while, have they? It just goes to show you that despite one of its major stars being a guy obsessed with shinjuu (double suicide), the creators seem to be emphasising the sanctity of life itself.
Oh, I never thought they had an explanation for Dazai’s coat…
What is the age difference between Chuuya and Dazai anyway??? They’re both 15 during the LN that’s called that, but the exact difference…what is it? Update: Dazai’s birthday is June 19th and Chuuya’s is April 29th, so the difference is 1 month and 21 days (using the idea that 7 days = a week and May is 30 days, that’s 51 days in all).
Ooh, we’re getting Fyodor, Ace and the unnamed kid soon, aren’t we? That also means we’re in unknown territory for myself, too…hmm.
OPM 2 3
When did Saitama last meet Charanko anyway? Charanko is voiced by Toshiki Masuda, so I would’ve kept an eye out for him, but the art shift and the years between seasons mean I don’t remember anymore.
Oof, “justice crashed Mumen Rider’s head” is more like it.
CGI banana…Just saying “CGI banana” is funny.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 4
Headpats, headpats all around!
Hooo…boy. I already knew Sabito and Makomo were dead because Crow and Irina’s collab post was called “The Names of Dead Children”, but how it was delivered…was such a powerful move.
I saw the blonde boy who’s in the OP…hmm. Update: His name is Zenitsu, according to the next-ep preview.
OPM 2 4
When comparing this dissection of monsters against Mob Psycho…the biggest monster Mob has is himself…hmm.
I didn’t expect Saitama to actually enter under Charanko’s name with that wig he got…
“…name as a martial artist.”
Mojo for the dojo, it seems this man wants.
I think the centipede senpai is CGI. Hmm…
It’s been years…I’ve forgotten what Ponytail Head’s name is! (And I call OPM one of my favourite series in anime…!)
Sarazanmai 4
“Writers exist between life and death.” – …is Ikuhara expressing his own thoughts on how anime writers are treated…?
I anticipate a soba pun (soba = noodles and soba = beside [someone]).
“…gives a s***…” – Says you, Toi, with the “Golden Poop” in the background. Then again, that’s just an English pun. Don’t mind me.
Comic Sans…you can’t escape it, even in this day and age…
Yude = to boil, soba…is the noodles. (The “o” on the end of the Monster of the Week’s first name means “man”.) Ikuhara uses Monster of the Week names in service of symbolism, while Takamatsu uses inconsistency for the sake of humour.
Intetestingly, there’s a spiralling blue thing in the background of the dance number and it says “soba” (katakana) and “desire” (yokubou, in kanji).
The headline translates to “Tragedy! It was next to me, but then…” (Kigeki! Sakki made soba ni ita noni…) The subbers had to accommodate the soba pun though, so they went with “so bar away”.
Hmm…now Toi takes centre stage…
2007, huh? How old are Kazuki and co. again?
This is probably the least surprising secret of all, y’know. Also, I think Keppi and Kazuki have cucumbers in their mouths.
They have subs for Stand By Me now!!! Oh mai globbb!
W-Wuh?! I can see why he’d hate Haruka (feelings of “why don’t my parents look at me the way they look at him anymore?”), but…this really turns this entire story on its head!
Kimetsu no Yaiba 5
Interestingly, the “My” in the episode title is Onore (an “I” indicating professionalism).Come to think of it…what is Tanjiro’s pronoun of choice?
Aww…the fact Tanjiro kinda looks like the demon’s (previous body’s…?) bro made the scene kinda cute. Possibly, it could be even enough to drive someone to tears…not that I was driven to tears, of course.
Well, here’s Zenitsu.
This angry kid reminds me of Mike Teevee (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). He seems like a rival, but he’ll disappear soon enough. Also, LOL, a sparrow instead of a crow.
“…my whole body hurts.” – Welp, that’s what happens when you lose sleep fighting demons for 7 days straight…
Why the obvious names? (re: Haganezuka – that is, hagane means “steel”…also, Nichirin contains the character for “sun” (at least, I think so…?) and Yoko can be understood to be/homophonous to the word for “sunlight”)
Tanjiro, son of Tanjuro…LOL. That was probably deliberate – it means the first son follows in the father’s footsteps.
For some reason, I wanted Haganezuka to pop out of the comic for the next-ep preview…aww.
Shield Hero 17
How many times did Fitoria say “I’m going to kill the heroes” and Naofumi say variants of “no”? Because of that, I had half a mind to jump ship and head to RobiHachi instead…but keep going.
That cowlick stuff was probably the most fun I’ve had with this show in a while…heh.
Oh great…Naofumi expanded his pseudo-harem to two bird waifus…then again, I had a stupid grin on my face seeing Fitoria’s old master, so maybe it’s not all bad, y’know?
Post-credits scene…keep watching!
Wah-wait…what the heck was that explosion???!!!
BSD 29 (S3 Ep 4)
That’s…Topaz (unofficial name)…ohhhhhhhh dear…
Oooh, Katai! Katai! Yay!!! (As you can tell, I had a very small thing for Katai. He reminds me of En-chan, y’see.)
The CGI in this OP…you can tell there’s quite a bit of it, huh?
It’s Deadmau5 (as the fandom used to joke)!
Fyodor’s eyes of disgust as Topaz dries his hair…hmm.
Older Topaz looks surprisingly like Oda…I don’t remember that exact shot, but it might’ve been in the manga. His background also reminds me of Chuuya’s.
OPM 2 Ep 4 (OPM 18)
“Irksome insect”…says the giant insect.
I think I saw a 7-11 pastiche in the background.
Why does the bird have a human hand in his belly? What??? (LOL)
This tournament arc don’t feel so hype, now that MHA’s is over…
Someone likes Donkey Kong… (referring to Marshal Gorilla and the other Kong guy (Heavy Kong))
Sarazanmai 5
…oh wow. Y’mean Kazuki is adopted???
“Why don’t you say anything, even though you know about me now?” (from Toi) – Probably because Kazuki is as f***ed up as you are, if not worse.
What are those sparkles coming off Sara’s face…? Not sure if they’re a shoujo thing or just…gratuitous sparkles.
LOL, Nioino Fukuro. Basically “pouch of scent” when you insert a space between the second I and the second N and change the first name kanji, plus change the “no” to hiragana.
I know the title of the song is Kawausoiya (translates to “awful otters” or something like that), but “soiya” doesn’t make much sense on its lonesome.
Wait…does that mean Sara is the creature? Or there are two Saras that can look the same, but one looks like the human and one is more kappa-like???
For some reason, I’m getting changeling vibes here…that Kazuki wants to look different to the rest of his family because he knows he’s different.
Hey…there’s this thing called the tourist gaze. It argues that because people create notions of reality differently, people have different ideas of what makes a trip “good” and “authentic”. In the same sense, Haruka’s “false” connection with Kazuki!Sara has become his reality, so it’s not wrong to say this Sara is real for him.
Oh…I just realised some kanji that appar early in the OP are the kanji for “extraction”.
So, uh…in a sense…can I interpret Kazuki’s love for his real mother a Fruedian thing? It seems all men’s love can be interpreted to be Freudian in some way or another…also, Sara kind of looks like his mother in a very “surface” kind of way. That is, they have a very passing resemblance to each other. Update: I’ve been reading some Stephen King lately and if I took anything away from that experience, it would be that everything is Freudian when it comes to men’s experiences. That’s why I say that.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 6
…*remembers something from the collab that was along the lines of “Astral doesn’t like Tanjiro’s green jacket”* Astral’s not gonna like this, then. (For those who don’t know the context, “Astral” is AstralGemini of the Zodiac Room.)
*Tanjiro is told he might not go very far with his demon slaying* *Tanjiro reacts with happiness that he’s on his way to get Nezuko human again* - Uh…I know I’ve watched my share of shonen, but I kind of didn’t expect that and yet also did.
Ugh…it’s the return of CGI Tanjiro…the vegie patch looks good in CGI though, for some reason.
Lemme guess…with a title like that (Swordsman Accompanying a Demon), could it be that Kazumi is a demon???
“I don’t get it at all.” – LOL…that was unintentionally funny (for the second time in this show, the first being Hand Demon).
BSD 30 (S3 Ep 5)
Moby Dick crashing into Yokohama? It was literally years ago for us!
I’m pretty sure these Park guys didn’t exist in the manga. Update: Nope, they did. I’ve read the corresponding chapter, it’s just that that was also 2 years ago…just like the last we saw of the anime.
I love how the “gyaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” ended in blood splatter, literally.
The Park guys apparently come from ch. 44 but Katai comes from ch. forty…what? One? Two? It’s not 40 (Hitori Ayumu), that’s all I know.
Katai is a good boy. You’ll see why in…oh, a few seconds.
Oh, I love the ending of this story. I already know the ending, but seeing it again will be a whole new bag of laughs!
Uh…I forgot how much of an interruption the anime’s humour is. My dream of a “whole new bag of laughs” is at least half dashed…*shoulders slump*
Apparently Atsushi cut his hair himself…not sure if that’ll be a spoiler for later, but it’s still something cool to know.
“So it’s your letter?”
Katai is basically me when it comes to my husbandos. See why I love him???
Come to think of it…I haven’t properly listened to the ED yet! Better do that while I still have the chance.
Fruits Basket 5
Shigure is such a troll…just like I remember him.
Fruits Basket 6
Hatori! Ooh! He’s hottttttt! Sizzling!...Okay, I think you get my point already…
I think someone else (Amelia from A Girl and Her Anime…?) pointed this out…but I don’t understand a speck of German outside 1 – 10 (I remembered the German word for “six” way too well when I was younger). So it would help if they bothered to make the German English as well.
For some reason, the stick figure was both obviously a cost-cutting measure and also elevated the hilarity of that scene…!
I don’t quite know what the Japanese equivalent of the “macaroni and cheese” thing was, but it conveys the same idea in the two languages and makes people laugh along the way, so…*shrugs shoulders* Makes sense, I guess.
Tohru is kandou about meeting an author. Kandou means to be deeply moved (noun form).
LOL, Hanajima reading the book.
…Oh my goodness. I just realised Fruits Basket has a lot of characters with fringes. 90s fringes for everyone!
“…a cartoon about a cat and a rat that are always fighting…” - Come to think of it, Tom and Jerry is popular in Japan.
Shield Hero 18
I think this episode title ends in inbou, which means “intrigue”.
This show is clearly trying to play the same cards over and over again…
Shield Hero 19
Hypocrites! Hypocrites everywhere! *does Buzz Lightyear hand gesture from the meme*
OPM 19 (S2 Ep 6)
The reason the fat guy is called Dave is not just because of B/V confusion, but because debu (without the line in the middle) is a slang word for…wait for it…”fatty”.
Interestingly, Murata previously worked on a oneshot called Gokiburi Buster. I wonder if this Cockroach Boi is from there…?
Did you notice the guys behind the umpire, who had a stretcher at the ready…?
“Mr Saynuthin” seems to be “Nanmoien-san” in Japanese.
“Waganma” seems to be a play on wagamama, or selfish. However, I can’t pin down the pun in the father’s name...
Well, well, well…at least someone acknowledges Speed of Sound Sanic (the ninja, not the CGI abomination or the monkey) is hecka-speedy.
Charanko (the real one)…he has ashi no ura (the back of the foot) written on his bandages…LOL.
Sarazanmai 6
Apparently Kazuki’s (foster) family all wear the same kind of stripes…which is what Kazuki means when he doesn’t want to wear the same kind of clothes as his family.
Okay…so the first set of kanji that appear in the OP are the one for “desire” and the ones after that are “extraction”…geddit? (LOL)
Oh my glob…how in the name of Iyami does Osomatsu-san get so popular that after I watched the first season of that show, it starts appearing in other places as well????
I saw a translation of the Reo and Mabu tweets and apparently at least one of them can make ningyoyaki (a type of cake you can make in all sorts of shapes – scroll down a bit on that page and you’ll find the description of ningyoyaki there).
Uhh…ghh…Keppi pole dancing was disturbing…*soul floats out of body temporarily*
Reo (I think that’s Reo, at least) has ningyoyaki…Update: Yup, that’s Reo.
“Headdress”, huh?
Why does this episode 6 feel like ending material…?
Wait…you’re saying Reo and Mabu are princes of the otter kingdom??? Wuh???
BSD 31 (S3 Ep 6)
(Lucy blushes) Wow…now there’s an option for a het ship right there…not that anyone will take it.
I saw a GIF of Atsushi floating naked and face down in the water (because Irina), but…I forgot exactly how the scenario before it went, so I LOLled.
Oh yeah…this chapter had a tie-in with Mizuki Tsujimura, because Mizuki knew Kyoka’s mother. Also, it shows you can inherit Abilities…
It’s Truck-kun and the curse of the isekai!...Okay, I’m kidding.
Oh yeah…this is the chapter about the Headmaster…
I haven’t been in a good place mentally for the past few years or so, due to my world basically fragmenting around me, so the words “don’t hate yourself” are strong ones coming from a place both nostalgic and new.
Dazai inherits a particularly interesting space in Atsushi’s life. He’s like a brother and father wrapped up into one (Kunikida is the nagging mother in that analogy, LOL), but also obsessed with suicide to the point he can also be a liability.
“…didn’t tell anyone…”
It’s also interesting to compare Tohru (of Fruits Basket) and Atsushi. They’re both selfless, but Tohru’s selflessness is shown to be a double-edged sword while Atsushi’s gives him a lot of resentment but is overall a positive thing.
Aww…seeing Atsushi slowly tear up almost made me tear up too…
Fitzgerald Rising…that’s the name of the chapter where…oh, sorry. It’s been years, so I’ll let it all play out for you and me again without mentioning any spoilers until they happen in (close to) real time in the show, okay?
Fruits Basket 7
This is the first time there’s been English lyrics on the OP for this show…I think.
Who’s this “he” Tohru’s referring to when examining the woman’s picture? Akito, probably, but I’m not 100% sure…Update: It was Hatori, actually.
“Shii-san”, “Haa-san” etc. is…cute. *cue “O kawaii koto…” from Kaguya-sama*
I get the feeling that Shigure is almost like a prototype Dazai (Bungou Stray Dogs). Or they just have a lot in common.
“Are these my just desserts?”
Demon Slayer 7
Nezuko’s playing whack a mol-er, demon, isn’t she??? (LOL)
Whoa…it must be mighty freaky to be floating in a swamp of dead people’s possessions…
Welp, Tanjiro…that’s one way to say “hands off my sister”. *nods* By cutting the demon’s hands off…
I like the contrast between Tanjiro’s callused hands and Kazumi’s smooth ones.
Hey…why does food always get wasted in movies and other media…? I know I’m applying real-life consumption habits to media, but it always looks quite wasteful, y’know…?
OPM 20 (S2 Ep 7)
I never noticed that shot of Watchdog Man in the OP before…huh.
Pig God’s shirt says DEV. It’s a pun on debu (fatty)…again.
Ooh! I saw him in the OP! Flashy Flash! I’ve never seen him in action outside the OP before, but I know his name and appearance from reading around.
“You all are the strongest swordsmen we have.”
Seriously, Saitama, just get something to stick the wig on and you wouldn’t have gotten into this mess. Maybe superglue…(okay, I’m kidding about the superglue).
OPM got really childish this time…

Shield Hero 20
Motoyasu getting dragged by Filo was funny…not enough to get a proper laugh though. Just a smirk or two.
Stop narrating and just get on with it, Naofumi and friends…!
“I was saying we should fight together all along.” (from Itsuki) – Were you, now…? (skeptical)
Ass-pull! I call “ass-pull” at the power to swallow the phoenix flame! Seriously, when did the dragon get the opportunity to teach Naofumi how to do that???
How did Naofumi not die after losing so much blood…?
What does the Q even stand for in the queen’s name…?
Sarazanmai 7
The seagulls…so fluffy…
For some reason, I expect a fakeout, but then it never arrives…these boys are really connecting…
I found some kappa croquette thingy online, but it referred to a “Shiki City” which probably isn’t in Asakusa…
The shirt…Kazuki’s shirt says “frog” but I get the feeling it also means “return”.
Shirohasu water. It’s Irohasu in Japan.
Was the lyric to Kawausoiya (the otter song) “gonna take ‘em”…?
Nice ET reference, Sara.
Balls…not just sport entendre, but…y’know. The sort of humour I don’t like as much.
Ooh…Keppi is shaping up to be the bad guy. But what plans does he have? Am I speculating too much and is he being framed? Hard to know until next time…
BSD 32
When Kyouka is eating the sundae, she looks like the Tofu Kyouka from Mayoi…hmm.
Can I confess something? Before I saw the illustrations for s2, I thought Louisa’s hair was much darker than what it is in the anime…hmmm, indeed.
I don’t think we were ever told (in the manga or the anime) what Louisa’s wish was…
This bit with Fyodor…I don’t think it was in the manga.
Subarashi-sou is a pun on “it seems wonderful”. That wasn’t in the manga, but it’s a great pun (because it’s right up my alley).
Fitz laughing at the neighbour’s TV wasn’t in the manga either, but that’s just the anime director’s humour peeking through.
“Blalack Daniel’s”, LOL.
Ohh…a quick Google reveals TJ Eckleberg is from the Great Gatsby. In there, he’s an eye doctor, but here, he’s an engineer.
George B Wilson is also from the Great Gatsby…Here be spoilers, but…George dies in his original work too.
Manhasset is a place in New York…I assume it’s connected to the Great Gatsby as well…
Oh yeah! Random Poe moment. That’s in the manga, so Igarashi (or whoever’s responsible for the terrible humour) doesn’t have to fake that bit.
Cue “Objection!” by Fitz, lemme guess. Even if I know the outcome and how it was done, I’d like to have my memory refreshed (by stabbing in the dark…and making an Ace Attorney joke in the process).
I already know, without googling, that Tom Buchanan is part of Great Gatsby as well…
Bank of Amerigo…LOL.
Fruits Basket 8
“If you show up for the banquet now…”
“The banquet sounds just like the folk tale!” Honestly, subbers, proofread…
Haa-kun and Haa-san. No distinguishing between them (aside from honorifics), even though they’re two completely different people.
Hatori’s squinty face was…hilarious, to put it simply.
Oh…I forgot the dance seems to be something the animal of the year does. So if Yuki was 3 years ago, it makes sense Momiji is doing it this year.
Best seat in the house for a sunrise, huh?
Kimetsu no Yaiba 8
I’ve seen Muzan being described as “Demon Michael Jackson” and now I can’t get that out of my head when I see him…sorry.
Tsukihiko, huh? It translates to “moon’s radiance” or something like that. That name is appropriate for a bad guy, isn’t it?
This is the first time I’ve really listened to the OST (aside from the OP and ED), so it’s…really something.
Ooh, I didn’t realise until now, but Ufotable even imitated the paper Jump is printed on with the next-ep previews…
OPM 2 8 (OPM 20)
Er…I haven’t mentioned it for the past few episodes, but Suiryu is hotttttttt. (No? I said that? Okay, next step.) That’s basically the only reason why I’m watching anymore…I can’t seem to find anyone who thinks positively of this tournament arc enough to do reviews of it that I can read, which has made my own opinion of this beloved series go down the drain…Also, if you weren’t aware, my taste lies not in Suiryu’s huge bulk, but rather in the fact he’s got long hair.
Didn’t Suiryu get pierced in the abs??? Where’s the blood coming from his injuries??? Update: He does have injuries there, they’re just not bloody…that’s all.
The main criticism for OPM 2 is the fact that it keeps cutting between different events, so it’s hard to follow. Well, I’ve had worse (see Concrete Revolutio) so that’s why I’m still here.
People say that clothing changes you – say if you put on a new outfit, you feel like a new person. (Of course, that’s all glamorising and praising consumption, but that’s beside the point here.) I think that’s what’s up with Max and Snek.
Shield Hero 21
“…the Shield Hero is worshipped.”
Really? Boob jiggle, at a time like this??? (Context: Malty is getting th slave crest painted on her.)
Wait, was there ever a Shield Church???
Okay, that felt like a real seasonal ending. What the heck is going to happen in the last few episodes, I wonder…?
Sarazanmai 8
Chikai knows the real meaning of YOLO…heh. I’m only kidding…
To be honest, I think I like Toi best out of the main trio. I tend to like the boys in blue…and no, I don’t mean the otter police.
Kazuki’s service provider is “Kappa Phone”, LOL.
When Reo held up the gun, I was yelling, “Enta! Get it for him!” (i.e. take the bullet) I didn’t expect him to actually do it…
…and here I thought tragic yuri was common enough and we don’t have enough Tragic Yaoi Dudes…
Notably, Toi was registered on Enta’s phone as “Kuji”, while Kazuki is registered as “Kazuki” (katakana) on Toi’s.
Shots fired…!
Update: I didn’t notice this, but the evil dude with kamome written behind him (I think it’s in this episode, but it might have been in the last one instead) must be based on a seagull…because that’s what kamome means.
Bungou Stray Dogs 33 (BSD S3 Ep 8)
I think it was around here I stopped reading the scans, because the series was picked up legally anyway…but I can see the death flags for a certain Port Mafia man…one who stands at the top.
As expected…butt shot. Igarashi (or whoever’s responsible for that shot) likes butts, so between this and Sarazanmai…*imagines image of kappa!Kazuki holding a shirikodama* There’s absolutely no buts about it (LOL), there’s no shortage of butts this season.
“To think that the rabbit being hunted would show its face…” – I think it’s hard for you to say that, Akutagawa, when you yourself have no face in that frame…
Why are both Akutagawa and Fyodor Naruto running today???
“So you’re doing this for that woman.”
What is “Mukurotoride”? I don’t seem to remember…maybe I never learnt what it was. Update: Apparently a tower in Dead Apple is called Mukurotoride.
Conspiracy time! This book sounds like Kunikida’s Ability…so imagine if it were under Dazai’s nose the entire time…
Fruits Basket 9
I love how the synopsis for this episode goes, “Kyo fights Yuki, Yuki fights a cold…”
Hatsuharu’s wearing such an ostentatious fluffy jacket…LOL, I love it.
Holy cow (LOL), I forgot how old Hatsuharu is…so that means he’s 15-ish, right?
Come to think of it…I see Fruits Basket characters in Ro Te O, which I started writing at about this time in 2013. The Azrael of that time was a hybrid of Hatsuharu, Ritsu and Ayame, Tetsuya is basically Yuki and Ryou is Kyou…hmm.
Apparently, Shigure had in the 2001 anime a song that went like, “High school girls, high school girls, cute high school girls for me.” So that’s where it was??? (Context: I haven’t seen Fruits Basket 2001, but read the entire manga.)
Kimetsu no Yaiba 9
Recap time, recap time…so the lady’s in the back room and Tanjiro conveniently forgets the man is in the basement…? Wuh?
Moya was complaining about how repetitive this show can get when it comes to the script (i.e. it repeats itself because it doesn’t trust its audience, but I think that’s because this is originally serialised on TV week by week that people may forget if they’re not bingeing, taking notes or following the manga). I’ll talk more about that in my KnY collab post, I guess…
When Yushiro said “watch your back”…he really meant it, huh?
Temari are the balls, but kemari is when you kick the balls.
“…the eyeballs on his hands are creepy.” – LOL.
Shield Hero 22
The ep title just says “Hero Council”…not specifically that there are 4 of them.
My stream’s been buffering more than usual, so I went “like mother, like daughter” before Naofumi did…
It would’ve ben massively funny to hear Melty call Malty either “Trash” or “B****”…especially the last one, because that’s always a fun way to end a sentence (especially for a girl as young as her). Update: She does, but the way she does it isn’t as funny as I thought it would be (and she doesn’t end her sentence with her sister’s new name).
Wait, I thought they got rid of her slave pact??? I thought it was only for the duration of her trial that she needed it for.
L’Arc and that lady seem like they’re foreshadowing for later…hmm. Update: The next-episode synopsis says “yes”. So does that new visual.
Sarazanmai 9
I can’t believe this show’s almost over…That means I gotta get a move on with RobiHachi, but to be honest? Non-anime things are probably going to kep me busy until…a few days from now. So I’ll get RobiHachi watched then.
Characetrs are dying en masse in this episode, aren’t they??? I saw a spoiler that (well, SPOILER) Chikai’s gonna die, but I don’t know about Enta or Keppi…Update: To be honest, I thought Chikai was going to become the next monster – a gun monster, perhaps. Maybe now that I’ve finished the episode, he’ll become a real zombie. (Hey, see what I did there with the bolding…? How’s that for hiding spoilers, eh???)
Oh yeah…I forgot Enta’s sister was Kazuki’s teacher…
There was a sign behind Masa that said”Hinode Asakusa” – “hi no de” meaning roughly “under the sun” or “leaving the sun”.
Tokarev…? The gun? Gun monster, maybe? Is this a critique of the American gun…(exaggerated voice) Nah, can’t be…this is Japanese.
Lionel…Lionel…for some reason, that name in relation to soccer seems familiar...I just can’t put my finger on who it reminds me of, though. Update: Is it, perhaps, Messi…? Yes, I think that’s the guy I was thinking of…!
Aw…I’m not crying, you are…But these words were running through my head before Toi chucked the bag of money away and yelled, “F***!”: “Everything I do, I do it for you.” Isn’t that cute…?
Bungou Stray Dogs 34
“…one by one?” Junban means “sequentially”, so I don’t see why you have to use the phrase “one by one”. Or “one at a time” would also work.
Hardbank…to contrast Softbank (a phone company in Japan).
Face-stealing aliens strike again…(re: Atsushi)
Oh flip. This reminds me of my Kunikida fic…yeah, I bet you don’t remember it.
Hey, this dude! Apparently he’s from one of Kunikida’s stories. I really am approaching the end of what I know of canon…*gulp* Update: Oops, we already passed that part…
I wonder if the real Fyodor could play cello…? Or is this just a thing to make him ominous and villanous…?
The cross on the wall behind Kunikida…makes this show more like Eva than Kekkai Sensen…exquisite. Absolutely exquisite, isn’t it?
Another cool cross, behind Tanizaki!
What’s a tatamigatana? Also, I didn’t know other people could be synchronised using Doppo Poet and Ranpo’s deduction…
Does Kouyou mean (by “the one I most despise”)…Chuuya? Or herself? It’s definitely not Ace.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 10
Headpats for Yushiro as well! Headpats for everyone!
There’s a lot of Tanjiro being terrified in this episode…
Wait…Kizuki? I thought they were the 12 Moons? (Well, “tsuki” means “moon”, but then what’s the “ki”?) Update: The “ki” means “demon”, so the Kizuki are the 12 Demon Moons.
Being alone with the body…that’s always a scary thought in murder mysteries…for the people who dissect them to determine the cause of death, that is.
Considering the name of the episode is “Together Forever”…nup, I don’t see Nezuko and Tanjiro separating anytime soon…
The Kasugai crow is what happens when you can’t turn off your Google Assistant…or GPS…or Siri.
If Tanjiro knows the name of his crow, how do the crows get their names? Do their trainers (is that the right term for a crow breeder in this case…?) give them names?
OPM S2 Ep 9 (Ep 21)
LOL, that one shot of the ants…JC Staff really don’t care about this series, do they…?
I kinda forgot about Genos after a bit more than a week…sorry, I was watching other anime in between. (More than usual, at least. I started playing Chibi Tamago – a forum game for AniList where you collect badges for watching anime - that’s why.)
Did he (Pri-Pri Prisoner)…store his phone in his butt…?

Bungou Stray Dogs 24 (FINAL) | Flip Flappers 11 - 13 (FINAL) | Classicaloid 11 - 12 | ConRevo 19 - 24 (FINAL)
I’m currently having trouble with Crunchyroll videos, so it may take a while to get to some of their stuff...
Yellow + blue = green, not blue.
Dramatic falls really shouldn’t take that long.
Get out, Igarashi humour.
Oh! Hell~o, Fyodorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Face stealing aliens…again.
Aww…sweet reunions.
Just one word from Dazai and he (Akutagawa) falls backwards, LOL.
Blue background, white and black text. Huh, nice colour palette.
LOL, Ango. You’re back.
Whoa?! Was that in the manga, that Herman was the Guild leader two gens back?!
Smol whale…aww.
Twain, you dumb butt. Stop working on your biography.
Lovecraft’s eyes were showing just as he dove into the water. (sarcastically->) Creepy.
Why a tomato during the “Cheers?!”
LOL, did I only just notice the ahoge on Kyouka? Yeah…I guess.
That was me…y’know. End of 2016 apology?
Ahaha, sweet lil’ Poe. That’s me though.
What a lolicon you are, Mori.
Whose painting is that? But…Dazai, you apparently once did a horrible self portraint…
Fyodor looks so good animated! Aww yeah!
…Dazai, you mean Shin Soukoku, yeah?
“My friend said to me…”
Teni Muhou is, of course, an Oda work,
“See you…” – Huh? This is even more open ended than “See you next level” and such. It’s a complete “in the air” thing! I wonder, since Bungou seems to be very popular amongst the Japanese fans, will we meet again?
Flip Flappers 11
Uhh…what now? I’m so confused…so Mimi = Cocona’s mother and yet a doppelganger of her?
Bu-chan basically wet himself…eww.
That shot of Sayuri, with Hidaka behind her, was vaguely disturbing due to the angle…(By the way, Hadaka = no clothes whatsoever, Hidaka = the name of the pink haired character. I’ve only now made that connection.)
Ick, reaaaaaaaaally compromising shot there between her (Mimi? Cocona’s mother?) legs.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh. Okay. Now it makes sense regarding Cocona and her mother.
Honestly, where are all the guns coming from?! Salt probably had one in his jacket but Nyunyu probably didn’t. She doesn’t even have a jacket!
Back to being confused. Meanwhile, Elpis.
Who is Cocona’s dad, by the way?
A middle aged man bowing down to a young girl? Now that, in Japanese culture, is desperate.
Flip Flappers 12
I only just realised when Sayuri said their names, but Papika and Yayaka are very similar names. I hope Cocona never gets confused between the two.
That mailbox looks like a mushroom…or worse…hahahaha. Sorry, won’t tell you what it looks like to me. You’ll have to figure it out for yourself.
Yayaka’s got a lot of attitude – I like it.
Hidaka’s EYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss! They’re NORMAL! Dang, the sight of Hidaka’s normal eyes makes my own eyes BURNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnn! ARGH!
Yeah…one does not simply have an emergency button labelled “Muscle”, ‘kay?
Idiom mode? Someone get these guys a dictionary.
“Why do you wish…”
That was one of the fastest KOs I’ve ever seen of a final boss. Ever.
That hand in the ED (during the part where Bu-chan becomes a duck)! That’s what it means!
My video keeps stopping at weird spots in the next ep teaser, which shows that one of the images is the muscular monster Cocona and Papika kicked the butt off before, but in blue. Another is a mixture of the worlds, but there’s the kanji for “snow” in one corner. One with Papika and Cocona shows that they’re rough sketches for the show. Oh, whatever…here you go. Some screenshots I took for this express purpose.
Flip Flappers 13 (FINAL)
How did she eat the watermelon with all the seeds in it? I once at a watermelon’s black seed at a buffet…and it ended with me barfing! (I haven’t quite liked watermelon as much since and since it was my favourite fruit up until then, I’ve never really been into fruit since. Haha.)
Okay, we still don’t know who Nyunyu is…
Giant artichokes! At least, that’s what I thought when Nyunyu shot Bu-chan’s brain.
Oh my…that’s some fine Salt you’ve got there! (tee hee)
Scary trees remind me of the ED.
Yay! Beast man Uexkull came back!
Bu-chan…he LIVES!
It seems highly likely Salt is Cocona’s father. My brain can’t quite wrap itself around that fact.
Sailor Lune. LOL.
I think “School Investigator” (School Keiji, shown on a wall while Sayuri looks away) is a Sukeban Deka parody.
Cocona’s in middle school now…wow. Time sure flies, doesn’t it?
Welp, that was slightly confusing, but overall a fun ride. Reminds me of ConRevo, which (at the point of typing) I still need to finish rewatching…
Classicaloid 11
It’s a pretty light episode, but considering that there’s (almost) another season left before we wrap up, it’s allowed.
LOL, I can relate, Schu.
This episode is pretty good when it comes to LOLs - I haven’t laughed like this in a while.
The “JESUS!” in the back was hilarious. (Sorry, Jesus.) Speaking of Jesus…I once saw an ad for this, and Asian Jesus? Whoever decided on that?
What song is this one if they didn’t even use a song this ep? A CLA:KLA song?
“Great Bach says…” – Uh, who’s narrating this? Bach himself?
Classicaloid 12
Ooh, serious mode. They haven’t done that since the guitar contest.
Why is Bach speaking normally?!
What was that, with the beeping…? Cho*bleep*, that is? I dunno.
What’s with those dancers and their makeup?
Hmph. Deep stuff, but I get it.
More bleeping…
Turning point, eh? (Plus, badass helicopter ride. LOL.)
Emails? You weak willed…Sousuke, dangit. Plus, does Mitsuru have a Pad-kun or the Pad-kun?
So Bach is white, as well as dark blue? OK.
Oh no. I just had a hideous fantasy of Schu turning into a fish. It’s more likely Schu will get eaten by the fish instead…or something. *shrugs*
(ConRevo 19)
Terra Australis. I know from history lessons that’s Australia. Magallanica is an alternate name of it.
Uh, definitely not true, Mr Abel Tasman my man.
The ice effect is nice.
Oh, “the tall nail gets the hammer” seems to be a scolding regarding tall poppy syndrome.
Issun boshi aka One Inch Boy. Momotarou…is Momotarou.
The tomb exists. by the way.
Earth-chan went “!!!” at the beam of light, LOL.
Raito’s such a fanboy, albeit a subdued one.
The large object is of course a torii gate.
CGI puzzle…? That’s the weirdest thing I’ll say in a while.
How much would an Equus kick hurt to Koma though? A lot…ouch.
Those red flowers…I recognise them, but I can’t remember their name…*searches* Camellia. That’s the one.
Raito’s face…is so off model, it’s disturbing.
Don’t go around underestimating politicians. (I’m still laughing though...just ignore it…)
Renderer Brace = Satomi, obviously.
(ep 20)
It’s the one Urobuchi episode. I didn’t particularly like it, but when you see what I’m capable of today, I acknowledge I am a hypocrite. The lowest of low beings.
Mekong Delta. That outright confirms it’s Vietnam.
I never really realised how I was so insensitive to POSA colour due to ConRevo…
There’s a distinctly different flavour of story here. Fuurouta, for example, isn’t his usual playful self and is merely a very serious messenger.
Kikko is always treated like a child, huh?
Who’s the bigger monstrosity, Jirou or Jonathan?
At a bar. Just like villains normally hide out.
Shellshock…
“National interest”? Global politics taught me that aside from power, national interest is the most paramount thing there is.
El Coco.
The Middle East? Of course, the ol’ fogey saying that isn’t a coincidence, considering 9/11 and such.
“Cursed bogey”? Never heard that one before.
Wasn’t Urobuchi the one who suffered from depression then decided to kill all his characters? Or was that Yoshiyuki Tomino? Update: Yup, it was the Urobutcher I was thinking of, although I got the story wrong.
Those statues seem to be more Cambodia, but meh.
Of course, that’s deinitely the Urobutcher at work now. To think I used to have stories that were similar to his, because I thought I was capable of writing apocaplytic endings and it was much cooler to kill everyone off…huh. Ro.Te.O is such a weird edgelord amongst all of my stories…
Daizoukyoujiyama.
(ep 21)
The Kachoudou sign actually says August 31st, not October.
The sign in the alley said “Ko-ruten Street”, but I’m not sure what that means.
What’s better than plain ol’ sakuga? Sakuga explosions!
“[N]one of the things that try to trap us are gone”? The syntax is funny in that phrase.
Yee-haw! Sakuga fight!
“No one called you.” – LOL, Raito.
Judas smokes now. What has the world come to?
Arakawa, eh? They’re trying to make the oil spill be water under the bridge, so to speak…geddit? Haha. (Update: Arakawa Under the Bridge. That’s what it refers to.)
(ep 22)
Welp, here’s the Show Within a Show episode…take it as you will.
Gigantopithecus giganteus.
Semiconductor processor.
Such irony in the “You’re still a boy” between Maki and Fuurouta.
Who’s the girl with the yellow headband with Judas?
(ep 23)
Sometimes I wonder if we all wake up from our dreams someday…I think even rewatching this show and finally understanding it, I’m waking up in my own way too.
CGI Equus. Dangit, I thought this show was above that by now.
I didn’t think about why the iron plate thingy is shaped like a fish. Then I realised…taiyaki. They’re shaped like fish and have those sorts of moulds. Just as Fuurouta says.
I forgot Raito dies…*sobs*
Oh? What’s this? Not a complete episode yet?...(Eheh, I just wanted a chance to invoke a meme or two.)
One helmet with a streetlight behind it looks like a bomb…
ConRevo 24 (FINAL)
Final ep…again.
See? Jiro does look like Cyborg 009!
Daitetsu has grown up to be the symbol of justice for Japan and Imperial Ads and to tear him down would mean even more blasphemy on the state than before, eh?
Waitasec…Satomi is basically the Fitz (Bungou Stray Dogs), but without the blonde hair and the (fake and/or crazy) wife.
Jirou disappeared just like Devila and Devilo.
Mm-hm. I do like me some good shirtless Judas. *thumb up*
Aww, Daitetsu. Being the Rainbow Knight for a new generation. Isn’t that sweet?
Hope we can meet again soon!

Gridman 5 | Double Decker! 7 | Golden Kamuy 17 | Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple
Gridman 5
Hmm…there’s something questonable about those camera angles on Akane…
I was listening to the audio dramas that are meant to be listened to after every episode (for quick reference, here’s the one for episode 5) and one references the fact Utsumi’s bag strap says “Turbo” on it. I didn’t realise Namiko and Hass (who point this out in the audio dramas) were right on that front until I saw it for myself this episode.
I’ve seen Rikka’s swimsuit on the dakimakuras that people have been promoting, after the wave of fanart on Rikka’s thighs happened. I also saw Akane’s swimsuit then. One of the voice dramas implied something about Hass taking her mask off for this episode so I got excited for it a bit…but she’s still wearing it. *sigh* It’s like Zombieland Saga and Kotaro taking off his glasses…it’s not gonna happen, is it?
“Avian” sunscreen, LOL. It has nothing to do with birds.
Hmm…come to think of it, what are Gridman’s themes? Themes of youth, like Evangelion, I suppose. Themes about heroics, like its tokusatsu predecessors. Then with this episode, add “themes about seeing people you put on a pedestal are being human too” to that list…I guess.
I still feel like people should be overreacting about Yuta’s memory loss…
Oh, there’s fog behind Rikka as she decides what to do – go with them (Yuta/Utsumi) or go with Hass/Namiko.
Ooh, they actually bought out Junk. Does that mean we’ll see fights in more places than just around the Tsutsujidai neighbourhood now? Does that mean Borr, Vit, Calibur and Max actually get paid by someone to fight with Gridman? So many questions, so little time!
I didn’t realise until now, but the clothes Anti is wearing are Chinese or maybe gakuran-inspired, at least for the top/neckline section.
That’s what they call the Macross Missile Massacre. I can see why people go nuts for it – it looks cool, no matter what era you animate it in.
It’s taken 2 episodes for the copy ability of Anti’s to become relevant…
Double Decker! 7
“Delick” (sic). LOL.
I like how they did a callback to the laundry joke…fom the episode involving the Bamboo Man.
Shield Coat? Is that what they’re called?
I wonder why they brushed off the idea of Valery being a man so quickly?
“You’re not trying to get revenge, are you?” – Well, in an episode called “Revenge is Mine!”, you wouldn’t think any differently…
So that confirms Kirill is 20, huh? Kind of shocking…you’d think most police constables are older than that.
I noticed in the manga Doug uses the term kakusa which Crunchyroll translated as “class”. Kakusa means disparity, so “class differences” is probably a better translation.
“Revenge is old-fashioned.” – I wonder how many people out there don’t know that right now? Surely there’s at least one.
I’m pretty sure Apple Bieber (LOL) used to be in a dark circle in one of the previous iterations of the ED but now there’s an orange background. Also, now Derick has a green background with red glasses.
Golden Kamuy 17
Gulden?...Oh, okay then.
Shiraishi is surprisingly the voice of reason here…huh.
...is that (Koito’s skin tone) just to prove Koito comes from a different part of Japan? Or is that just a nasty character design?
How did Asirpa manage to climb up Shiraishi so fast??? (LOL, never thought I’d see the day where I said something like that)
How did Sugimoto know the copied skin Shiraishi gave to Ushiyama was a fake? Weren’t the only ones who could tell skins apart Edogai and Tsurumi? Or was it because Sugimoto had the real copy of Henmi’s skin? (…Probably that, actually.)
What’s a-oh. Daisetsuzan means “big snow mountain”, which is definitely a good name for it.
I thought Asirpa was yelling in disgust for a scond when she went “yuk!” but she was referring to the deer, methinks.
This deer shooting is reminding me of the Honda-san parody of Golden Kamuy, which is pretty funny when you see they’re shooting Kamibukuros and Rabbit-heads in that.
“Bad men don’t have human hearts.” – But Sugimoto is a bad man to certain people, such as Tsurumi. How bad is an evil guy…? Hmm, themes. Never thought I’d be able to parse any from Golden Kamuy.
Liver’s good for the blood. I’ve been urged to eat chicken liver before as a result…urk.
I think now Sugimoto’s been shot, the scene with the pulsing blue light in the ED makes more sense…hmm.
Update: I thought the Shiraishi taking his clothes off from hypothermia was just part of the crazy world Golden Kamuy is set in, because things like stripping are funny for a seinen audience, but nope, it’s real.
Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple
After a lot of waiting, the movie is free to watch! Yippee!
The Dragon’s Head Rush? I’ve read around about Dead Apple because I thought I was never gonna get to watch it, but…wasn’t that in the source material somewhere? Hence Oda being here? I think Chuuya was also involved in it somehow, but my memory fails me as to exactly what.
Huh? Is this the same graveyard Kunikida was in for episode 7?
I’m still not used to the humour of this show, it just works against the spirit of the rest of the work…
Atsushi sleeps in the linen closet…I’ve watched through seasons 1 and 2 twice so I do vaguely remember something like that. I wonder if that’s meant to be true according to the manga, though…?
Uh…should or does Kyouka even know how to drive???
I’m laughing, you can’t call Atsushi “weretiger” when he’s not even able to assume tiger form!
“dragon’s breath” – Oh, it’s a pun on “Tatsuhiko”. Tatsu = dragon. The rest of the name means something like “brightness”, so it’s not that relevant here.
I almost thought Atsushi did a mic drop…(well, whatever you can call the equivalent of a mic drop with a gun)…there.
Hmm…I was thinking about what this reminded me of, and I realised – it reminds me of that Pokémon movie where they fight against their clones…
Say, where is Chuuya in all of this mess…?
Face-stealing aliens return…hmm. I thought I’d left them behind with the increased monetary resources a movie requires, but nope.
I feel like even though this was a good romp for a BSD movie, it kind of reminded me this show is sometimes budget Kekkai Sensen (although Kekkai Sensen has its faults too). They didn’t really explain Agatha or Fyodor (for anime-only watchers) or Dazai’s motivations (although nobody ever explains his motivations, admit it)...plus all that stuff about apples and fairy tales doesn’t quite seem to work against all the stuff about abilities and was purely for “poetic reasons”. How did Ango know the report was meant to be called Dead Apple, anyway?

Bungou Stray Dogs 1 - 19/Flip Flappers 6/Classicaloid 6
I had some truly horrible video speeds this time but I found a way to get around it!
The idea for Bungou from now on: Expect first time watches for this show and don’t expect ratings after each ep. Once all 2016 shows are done (rewatches or not), expect the 2016 ranking.
(ep 1)
Chicken, eh? No wonder Atsushi’s a tiger…
Butt shot x1. I’ll keep an Atsushi butt shot counter, don’t worry.
Sometimes I forget Atsushi’s 18…
This was actually funnier the second time around. Dazai’s kinda creepy on revival, though.
Dazai basically carries the show (in regards to people’s intrigue factor) before it comes to the tiger.
Haha, that’s me.
Blockhead? Never seen that insult from Kunikida before.
The humour’s on beat, but it doesn’t suit Bungou because it wasn’t in the original. That’s what I think.
*~dramatic flowing in the wind~*
Wasn’t it only 30 bowls, Kunikida?
On the walls of the restaurant, it says “____soba”…can’t make out the rest. Update: kitsunesoba, tanukisoba and…tororosoba? Apparently the first two are the same thing but in different parts of Japan (soba topped with aburaage). Totorosoba is like this.
From left to right, the silhouettes are Kenji, Yosano, Fukuzawa, Tanizaki (Junichirou) and Ranpo.
This arrow keeps changing colours…
+ 1 butt shot
Manekineko in the background.
“The CEO”? Is that what Dazai calls Fukuzawa?
Oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh. Dazai’s good at torture interrogation techniques.
Tsurumi.
I always thought the genkooyooshi (the squares that appear all over this show, including the ones where it’s only text on a black screen) was a nice touch.
Where did Dazai get a calculator from? (It’s not his phone, the outline says so.)
When it gets to the tenth episode and onwards, it goes “one one” in the genkooyooshi squares instead of “ten one” as is the standard.
“I have no such tastes in men.” Good to know, Dazai. Also, that was funnier the second time ‘round.
This is the 3rd time this episode; I forgot how hackneyed the ol’ orphanage flashback was. Maybe they could’ve moved a tad beyond that instead of using it to kill time.
+ 1 butt shot
“Okiro, shonen!” –That’s got to be one of Dazai’s defining lines in this series. It really has to be.
Oh, I didn’t know they had the OP and ED back to back in the first episode. I guess I must’ve skipped it.
(ep 2)
Basically me when I don’t sleep enough.
+ 1 butt shot – We’re at 4 shots now.
Did you even stop the call, Atsushi?
Oh yeah, Sailor Moon was originally meant to have white hair. Why do I bring this up? Atsushi’s hair was originally paler than what it is in the anime, that’s why.
I have quite a few gripes with “face stealing aliens” in season 2, but it seems BONES was skimping out on faces ever since episode 2…
Good burn, Kunikida, although a little long.
If Dazai were an actor, he’d win awards.
Hey, now that I think of it, this may have been foreshadowing for what happened with the Guild in season 2 anyway…like Reborn and their Irie thing.
(Junichirou) Tanizaki’s got a point.
Platitudes, LOL.
Atsushi is a worthless human being – what are you talking about, Dazai?
Kunikida’s become a lot more gullible in this adaptation.
+ 1 butt shot
How exactly did Fukuzawa learn to trust Dazai? I guess Asagiri-sensei never explained.
Basically Atsushi is being coerced…
(ep 3)
Kunikida kicking Dazai in the background, LOL.
Squick. Get me out of here.
Kunikida CHOPPPPPP!
Does Kunikida even have bony fingers?
One normally retconned moment coming right up.
What are the other 6 mysteries of the Detective Agency?
+ 1 butt shot
The restaurant is called the Vortex? Okay.
Those dot eyes…are actually kinda funny now that I get a look at them.
You can see Tanizaki wanting to squawk once he gets glomped by Naomi.
Dazai, you liar.
I love how Akutagawa walks into a Kanagawa kouban and just drops off a bag like it’s nothing, then causes the building behind him to explode. Funny yet also badass.
It’s Yokohama Gyangusutaa Paradawisu for some reason I cannot quite figure out…If it were being rendered from actual English, shouldn’t it have been Paradaisu?
The way Akutagawa goes “Excellent”, you’d expect him to make a Gendo pose and laugh evilly.
Dazai is scary like that…
No one falls like that!
Ow, that’s gotta hurt.
These outright bug-eyed shots don’t quite match the rest of the show.
Akutagawa has very thing eyebrows…
Wow, Akutagawa looks kinda funny as he looks down on Dazai.
(ep 4)
Purple is an interesting choice for Hirotsu. Purple was originally a colour for royalty, and Hirotsu isn’t the most royal (although he has the air for it).
Eyeless crowd.
Looks like a prison – that’s probably intentional.
Atsushi had no eyes for a few frames.
Here we go again.
The subs chose to call Gin a he, but…well, you know…
I wonder what Higuchi’s stance on the Agency is now.
I love this waitress. She’s so sassy.
Ranpo was drinking ramune there.
There’s a poster behind Atsushi that says “You can apply online” or something of the sort. At least the crowd have eyes now. CGI car, hah.
Jerkass Ranpo.
Hirotsu’s panicking, LOL.
They didn’t put much effort into the “throwing out the window” scene.
Aw, suddenly Atsushi is adorable…didn’t think Kunikida was the sort to pick on him, though.
(ep 5)
While I was translating Wan!, I remembered that RL!Edogawa has a book/femme fatale called Black Lizard, but apparently RL!Hirotsu has one (a book, not the femme fatale) too. Read more about the RL!Port Mafia here.
They really like exaggerating people’s traits for comedy, eh? It’s kinda annoying actually.
I think I’m finally getting the gist of solving cases, even though I’ve been afan of DC since before my time at Tumblr…
Sugimoto looks a tonne like Tanizaki…
(ep 6)
I didn’t really like their decision to suddenly stick a prequel into the main story…Basically, oh no, here we go.
I’ve already watched parts of this episode over already for my Kunikida-centric fic Resolve and the Happy Mushroom crack fic here, so…if I seem a bit blasé about things (aside from what I’ve said above), that’s why.
Kunikida must have to write real small to get stuff into that notebook…
I wonder if Rokuzou will ever be part of the manga canon.
A stage actor! Maybe he was part of the 3rd novel too.
CGI cars kinda annoy me, did you know that?
Huh. The trio have very distinct silhouettes.
Why are they all men in the gas chamber? Isn’t it that there should be lots of kick-ass girls in the world (simply because guys like fanservice from animated girls, and anime is traiditonally a male endeavour by virtue of the stereotype)? Or was it to direct attention to Miss Sasaki? Or was it because males are easier to animate and less to censor? Or-sorry, rambling.
How many pages does that thing have?!
Hard to say whether Kunikida is near or farsighted. Ever since Yuuri (Katsuki) and Takuma (Takashiro, from One Wish They Never Wanted), I’ve been poking into small details about glasses and eyes to get the nitty-gritty right…Yeah, I derailed again.
I thought I saw Goto for a second…
I wonder if Akutagawa and Kunikida will ever face off (again).
(ep 7)
War plots are never my thing (which is why I ditched Izetta), so having multiple war plots in the one series is eventually going to get annoying for me one day, I bet. Chapter 47.5 involves another declaration of war…which may make this (anime) either problematic or the exception…
Kunikida’s your surrogate dad, Rokuzou. I learnt that much by writing that fic about you.
All the gags seem to get funnier after multiple watches…
Poster child for sloth? That’s En-chan, not you.
You da man, Kunikida!
Hey, at what point was it “Kunikida-sama” again? After her life got saved?
All this war – studying Global Politics, chapter 47/47.5 (freshest Bungou chapters as of this post), waging my own war against assessments and trying to write a proper uprising in White Parasite (on Honeyfeed) – makes me war-weary, even though I have never seen an actual war with my own eyes.
Negishi?...Negishi.
We never found out the name of this guy, did we? He looks an aful lot like Yuri Plisetsky (Yurio? Is that what you call ‘im?)
If I saw right, the wire gun got the thick-armed man’s head! Ouch!
I never understood why there was an angry face on the bomb.
The dead won’t ever be revived by tears. As a writer, I know that much. As a person, however, I’ve never experienced anything that validated that.
Justice…everyone’s justice is different and that’s why it can be fire and also a gavel. A nest for the weary and a means to an end…
(ep 8)
“Wiwre”…what the?
There’s 09 etched into the wall during the OP Chuuya/Dazai showdown. Also, Akutagawa is red to Atsushi’s blue…it’s striking as all get out, and it’s effective…
Such antiquated views, man.
No eyed Atsushi again…and Yosano with him this time.
CGI train still vaguely annoys me.
“Nice leg”? Are you Takeru (Fujiwara)?!
Kajii, you dumb butt. Why did they throw you in as part of the original Port Mafia hype?
I believe the building was “Maruzen” in Kajii’s original work, but meh, close enough.
Lactic acidosis. Also, hypoxia.
I wonder why he’s (Kajii) dressed the way he is…
Telomeres are part of the meiosis process, IIRC…nope, they have to genetics.
That’s the 5th time they mention the orphanage this series…
LOL, Kajii looks like a typical harem protagonist right now.
The problem with Bungou is that while its quality as an adaptation is at least 80% perfect, it is hardly the most ideal according to the fandom…
(ep 9)
Atsushi’s mouth is missing and his eyes are funny…
According to Google, a place called Tachibanadou doesn’t exist. There is a translation joke in the later Freedom curry place though. We’ll get there when we get there though.
The background game is great this ep.
Atsushi -> Kyouka is like Dazai -> Akutagawa and Dazai -> Atsushi, in a weird kind of way.
A 14 year old? Date spot?
Flustered Atsushi is precious. Notable in that “date spots” = actual Yokohama places.
Face stealing aliens strike again.
I swear I saw another Akutagawa wanted poster near the police.
What are these guys doing about Dazai?!
I listened to this first Chuuya/Dazai confrontation with volume the first time; it was great!
(ep 10)
Face stealing aliens! They’re here again!
Is Dazai a genius? YMMV on that.
Look at Dazai’s legs, he specifically bent down for Chuuya to hold him by the neck. D’aww.
“Get out of here…you ass.” “I know.” LOL.
The girly “there will be no second chance”, haha. I don’t think (in the anime canon) they explained why that exchange happened though.
What the hey, tiny Kunikida…
Face stealing aliens spot no. 4.
Face stealing aliens no. 5.
Sakuga? Not quite.
Why does Rashomon come from near Akutagawa’s butt? It’s weird.
Oooooh, that’s gotta hurt.
With his bandages, Mafia!Dazai doesn’t look like he has eyebrows. That’s a perfect match for no-eyebrows-Akutagawa.
Or so you say Akutagawa, hmm, hmm…
*Dazai singing to the tune of Mikshake* My kouhai brings all tbosses to the yard, and they’re like, it’s better than yours! (Oh gosh, I really do have some crack thoughts…Imagine Dazai at karaoke belting that out!)
Looks like a nettle, that. By the way, agito means “jaw” and higanzakura is a type of cherry blossom.
Akutagawa was a complete boss…for 5 seconds.
Sawarabi, according to a Google search, is a seedling fern.
Gokumon means “prison”.
Nearly everything is made better with a shonen battle, wouldn’t you agree? Plus by the sheer amount of spinning Akutagawa did, I’d say that’s gotta hurt…
Perrier Jinnomet apparently doesn’t exist according to Google.
The Great Fitzgerald, people! The Great Fitzgerald!
(ep 11)
Gendo pose Ougai. LOL.
Have you noticed that Gin looks more feminine now, and isn’t seen to be a pervert?
Senpai will never notice you, Higuchi.
Ichiyou means “one leaf” so it doesn’t make sense for her to have a handkerchief like that.
Ihatov exists in Kenji canon.
Unfortunately, this episode’s Kenji part plays heavily on the Igarashi humour…
Niconicodou(ga)? Really?
The poster in the background says ichigo ichie.
Oh brother, Atsushi. Stop falling for his methods…
(ep 12)
16 GB USB. I think that’s the biggest sort of USB you can get without needing a portable hard drive.
Neither of those porcelain brands exist, according to Google.
Natsume-sensei!!!
You don’t say Francis.
Uh oh! Ougai!
Basically speaking, Anne is a lot of Kyouka…
Ougai can be hella creepy sometimes, but sometimes he forgets that he’s obfuscating stupidity…
Ougai’s eyes are red. That, and purple.
I think Igarashi-kantoku (Director Igarashi) is a little too fond of Ougai…
Chuuya can look downright scary staring out from underneath his hat.
(ep 13)
I reblogged a photo with roughly the same words (the beginning words of this episode) as its title…It’s an extremely striking title, that.
Mafia!Dazai wore a lot more black…sorry if I’m speaking in platitutdes here. I only just noticed.
Trying to get the exact level of “crackpot” is honestly an art when writing fics about Dazai. He’s an unpredictable mess (or he could end up that way if you stuff the execution of his character up!), that’s why.
Why does the Lupin barman never question Dazai’s suicide talk?
If “fuzz” means “fail”, then…failure buddies. “To fuzz” is an odd term.
This humour really doesn’t fit the flow of something so dark as, well, Dark Era.
This is honestly much better with volume, but I can’t afford to do that right now. I’ve spent way too much time on my blogs, I need some work experience…
Who does Sensei the cat belong to? (I hope the cat isn’t Natsume Soseki, that would be highly illogical and simultaneously would kinda look like Darker than Black…)
I don’t like featuring in photos, so I don’t have that many pictures of me except maybe school photos (which are kinda blah anyway) and a small bunch of event photos. All the selfies that were ever taken of me were with other people – that’s how averse to cameras I am…
The Port Mafia should really be more clandestine than “big ol’ skyscrapers in the middle of Yokohama”, y’know?
Face stealing aliens strike again!
I switched to Mozilla to watch after huge amounts of lag and Shockwave Flash brought me down for the past few days. CR videos on Mozilla really are a huge improvement as a result.
Ougai has such scribbly writing…I can barely read it and all I can actually read are “Oda Sakunosuke” at the start and “Ougai” at the end (due to the vertical writing the placement of signatures and things is different to Western standards).
Ryurou is funny when he’s getting his butt kicked by a game.
“Secondhand Books Avenue”? That must’ve been what was tripping up nkhrchy and me way back when I tried to help them out with the Chinese translation of Dark Era…
Cat face Dazai.
I still think the white/blue scheme is a perfect match to the black/red scheme of the first season titlecards, but then what will they do for a (hypothetical) season 3?
(ep 14)
Okay, according to Tumblr sources, Oda’s favourite curry place in Osaka was called Jiyuu (Freedom). That’s why the curry place in Bungou is “Freedom” (katakana).
Apparently that is an accurate depiction of Jiyuu curry. (I still have yet to go to Japan to experience anything though…*sighs*)
Face stealing aliens…plus the original “face stealing aliens” scene.
Haha…Oda, you…
I really like this new OP, it really fits the aesthetic of Dark Era with the neon lights.
Really now? I wonder if these kids thought his Mafia man thing was a ruse?
“Odasaku-chan”. That was funny.
Exactly whatever this Ryuuzu dispute is, we probably don’t need to know.
Basically, Dazai is a(n older?) Kunikida, to follow the novel canon.
Oh yeah, the Order…
The red Yokohama looked really creepy…that’s effective as all get out.
Who’s the old man?
Face stealing (and eye stealing aliens)…
You must be new here. (<- meme)
Face stealing aliens…
Dazai with wide eyes is slightly creepy because you’re not used to it.
Oda’s serious face when saying “Okay” gets me every time. It’s such a juxtaposition. Plus…tickle torture seems to be the most effective method of torture on this show…
That’s not “angry”, Ango.
As I’ve said, it goes “one four” instead of “fourteen”.
Dazai, you schemer.
Owie, Akutagawa. I almost felt that punch.
I guess we’ll never find out what Ango’s ability was…eh?
Face stealing aliens struck again, but only in some in between scenes during the explosion. My video was going slightly slower there, and it upped the suspense, so I don’t mind that “face stealing aliens” scene.
What war was it?
Pissed off drunk, LOL.
The CR subs didn’t quite match the text colour, but it was hard to tell. I’ll let ‘em off easy.
(ep 15)
At least according to this silhouette, Soseki isn’t a talking cat…
If you want something to be done well, do it yourself. Thank you for your platitutde, sensei. (<- sarcastic)
“Write what you know” declares Asagiri-sensei’s currently living in Yokohama…but it’s a port town, so it would be hard to find where he lives…
According to nkhrchy, Gide’s ability is “The/A Narrow Door”.
Oh yeah, this scene. LOL at the way Akutagawa gets picked up like a kid.
I have a policy of not using the word “hate” lightly.
Face stealing aliens are too obvious here.
A fight between future seers…that’s a real snarl…
The use of red and blue in this episode is striking and that’s what makes it one of the better episode of the season.
I wonder, if Oda had Kunikida’s ability, he’d be a real threat…and he could also be a writer, haha.
Face stealing aliens really like to work on Gide. Plus Oda.
I think this was my favourite OP, visuals-wise.
“[E]arnest suitor”, eh?
When did Oda discard his jacket? He could at least cover up the bullet holes in his shirt with it.
Ango’s really stoic at times. Huh.
Mole dug himself a hole too deep for him.
Dazai goes underground some time after this, I forgot that.
Dazai’s such a cynic.
Oh no…
O-Oh no!!!
I wonder, will I be able to write a character like Oda someday? That character seems too advanced for even me, the person who’s been trying to write properly for who-knows-how-many-years (update:…approximately 11 years…?).
Technically speaking, the title of ep 16 is Bungou Stray Dog.
(ep 16)
I think my poking around got a little too far, because I found Taneda was a real life writer too. Update: If they ever adapt Katai, then please let him have a good VA!
That’s a permit…isn’t it?
Ougai = Femt, but wrong voice actor (Akira Ishida for Femt, Mitsuru Miyamoto for Ougai).
I think the Rampo tie-in was a genius for book 3, but it does somewhat go against the flow of the Dark Era story temporarily.
Oda’s ahoge really make him distinctive.
I remembered right.
Why don’t people want opinions anymore? Is it because Random Curiosity and whatever can provide them at a hat’s drop and are not bound by such things? Or does nobody believe in the freedom of the press?
Oh. World War II. That’s what war it was.
Face stealing aliens…?
Reminds me of Zuko and his lost honour, LOL. (Sorry, bad comparison.)
That poem I wrote about Odasaku…it really is a lot like how he was portrayed here.
That scene where he pulls Dazai’s bandages off is so powerful every time I see it.
Hello sensei, what are you doing?
Dazai really wouldn’t do well in a place that has everyone like Kunikida.
They even animated Dazai’s blinking this time, eh?
(ep 17)
I think that was Kouyou speaking, from the small snippet I heard…
Baumkuchen is a distinctively-shaped cake made of pandanus leaves, if I remember right. I learnt about it from DC.
The staff really like Tanizaki talk, don’t they?
It’s 10:30, presumedly am.
Why, Kyouka? Why were you being portrayed like this?! (Don’t let a 14 year old use her “feminine charms”, I tell you!)
Golden Demon is blue, eh? Seems ironic.
The spider lilies on her kimono represent death in Japan.
Now the demon is gold and red…hmph. Plus I can’t unsee the Akutagawa cape, now that I see it.
Imagine Kouyou doing the nails of Kyouka (as well as her own).
Rocinante is Don Quixote’s horse.
Face stealing aliens!
Heh heh. Kunikida’s actually right.
What’s that Steinbeck is throwing? Bread?
Lovecraft is very close to being my spirit animal.
Aw, back to black (and red) titlecards.
Was Twain ever really like that in the manga? I don’t seem to recall what he was like…
I see Kenji. Where’s Kunikida though?...Oh, there.
Oh great, here we go again with the Yosano segment…
The injured are…shiny?
How does Fukuzawa live with the constant failure of people under his care?
Face stealing aliens!
Dazai’s getting dirty! Ohhhhhhhhh! (Yeah, I am an immature butt sometimes.)
My video went slowly there, so I think I felt Atsushi’s pain from that judo throw…yeowch.
Was Francis’ ship even called the Zelda in canon?
Is smoke blue?
This arc will either garner fans or alienate them, especially after the adaptation of Dark Era…
Here we go! I don’t know why though, but CR calls ep 18 “The Conflict of Strategy” and not “The Strategy of Conflict”…and why is Akutagawa naked in the ED? *shrugs*
(ep 18)
Face stealing aliens on Ougai are actually kinda funny.
Face stealing aliens on Mitchell now too.
I wonder why the Bible gets quoted so much in this anime? It makes sense for Hawthorne, but not as much for Gide…
二銭銅貨 (Nisen Douka) is apparently, according to Aozora Bunko, one of Ranpo’s works.
(Slightly NSFW territory here, but it’s all in the interests of literature!) In the original Scarlet Letter, A stood for “adulteress” IIRC. In this case, it would probably just stand for “adultery”…?
Also, the A was located on the forehead IIRC, but to make an example of Kajii to prove how strong Hawthorne is, I can let him get away with this inaccuracy…
Face stealing aliens!
Kajii’s original work went a little something like that, according to my research.
Of course, the “commander in chief” is Ougai. (However, that’s probably a platitude at this point.)
Mitchell looks silly without a nose.
“Irmao” means “brother”. Meanwhile, face stealing aliens got Akutagawa too.
“Diablo” must be “devil” then.
IIRC, Mount Hermon is in Turkey or Syria…
I find it funny CR chose to call Akutagawa “little guy”. He’s 172 cm which isn’t really that small.
Where did that blood stain come from?
If it’s purely a yellow ability, it’s Mitchell’s.
The negative colouring is a nice touch.
The title Rashomon is technically a gate, hence all the reference to gates in Akutagawa’s moves.
Face stealing aliens got Akutagawa again.
I wonder if this show uses recycled footage.
I wonder what traps they set?
Micchan looks exactly like Sensei from a few eps back.
At least they managed to cut an acceptable corner with this spot of humour.
I love how Kirako remembered Kajii as “the one who loves explosives”.
Ranpo, be Bastion Torbjorn and bring out the turrets!
“The 4th, at 14:15 [2:15 pm]. Kanagawa…” I can’t quite read the rest…Plus, whose handwriting is it?
Face stealing aliens have Chuuya! Oh no!
Don’t warn your opponent to watch out! That’s dumb!
I read a pretty good BSD Write fic that departed from this part.
Face stealing aliens conquer all!
Really now, girls? Being distracted by the cat?
(ep 19)
Fresh impressions from here on out!
Okay, I think that cold open was a bit dumb.
How is he so happy?
I’ve gotten a little too good at identifying CGI cars these days…I think.
A grape scion.
Face stealing aliens on the Steinbeck family’s first appearance! Well, that says something.
Huh, doing international politics as a subject allows me to know that the superpower in question has guns. On boats. Gunboats.
Now that is a CGI truck. I don’t like CGI in general unless it’s used well, so it’s way too noticeable.
Face stealing aliens on a train. What next, face stealing aliens on a plane?
There was “A Sad Thought” on the titlecard.
Face stealing aliens have Dazai too.
The place Unsui doesn’t exist according to Google.
That was definitely an inserted section of humour, Dazai.
Q is one creepy child…
The Director! He has eyes now!
I guess this is where Spidey comes in with his “With great power comes great responsibility”.
Ow! Slapped like a…female dog.
I never thought Louisa would have such a colour scheme. I though her hair was darker…
That one book is spawning all over the place.
Ango! Plus, face stealing aliens got Dazai again.
Of course, I knew this was all coming – I’m up to date on the manga – but hey, surprises just keep coming.
If there’s one thing I learnt from politics, it’s “never be above the law” (ultra vires).
Francis, old sport. Please don’t let the face stealing aliens get you. Otherwise, you’ll look like Viktor Nikiforov (Yuri on Ice), and that would be bad news for you.
…I forgot the ending to this quote. However, I think it was, “Though the head is wrong, the heart never falters.”
(Flip Flappers 6)
I heard you can use nail polish on microscope slides too.
So it was most likely an oil-based nail polish, used for painitng, eh?
There was absolutely no transition between one scene and the other…Hmph. That’ll affect the rating.
“Iro-chan”?
That wagon looks like Bu-chan.
Morning glories.
Iro = colour, so it’s really something unsettling to see Cocona go under that name, especially due to Irodori-senpai having a similar name.
Oh great, this is like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle’s ending…
Kokeshi dolls. Hah. Just like Death Parade.
Dementia. I somehow had the suspicion that that was the case, but…
Oh. So they took on the identity of Senpai to get through Pure Illusion.
(Classicaloid 6)
Kyo-kun?
This guy kids waaaaaay too much.
What’s up with the tropical drink?
Pad-kun was kinda cute when he blinked. Then again, we’re talking about a machine, and unless you’re talking about an android/cyborg, you can’t really make attractive robots…can you?
“Hello world!” is an IT programmer thing…not a musician thing.
My dreams just got shattered. The one with the red and black hair is…a woman! A woman, dangit! I wanted a bishonen to lust after! Curse that X chromosome of hers!
Okay, that’s just bad Liszt!
“Mika can play the organ.” Of course they pick music themed sentences for a music-themed anime.
A-Are you sure, lady? You sure you can do that?
Schubert finally gets to see his senpai. I’m glad for him.
That one buff Cupid stealing the spotlight…that was such a LOL.
Epic Bach does epic things.
What happened to Hashie prior to him being in that bush, I wonder?
Sousuke basically just got a “She doesn’t even go here!” (I love that quote of Mean Girls, I’ll yell it whenever that movie’s on TV.)
Hashie’s back in his maid outfit. Continuity snarl…
There are hearts now, they must be Bada-chan’s.
