So... I wrote a Myers x V fanfic...
The President's Lady (2366 words) by Aggravated_Durian Chapters: 1/? Fandom: Cyberpunk 2077 (Video Game) Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death Relationships: Rosalind Myers/V, Solomon Reed & V (Cyberpunk 2077) Characters: V (Cyberpunk 2077), Rosalind Myers (Cyberpunk 2077), Solomon Reed (Cyberpunk 2077), Judy Alvarez, Alena "Alex" Xenakis, Bianca (Cyberpunk 2077), Chester Bennett, Jago Szabó Additional Tags: Canon-Typical Violence, Post-Canon, Implied/Referenced Brainwashing, Alternate Universe, Spoilers, Major Original Character(s) Series: Part 1 of Chorus Timelines: A Cyberpunk 2077 Fanfic Series Summary: Based on the new ending to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (The Tower). The year is 2079. Vega 'V' Hawse awakes in an unfamiliar setting with familiar faces, namely, Rosalind Myers and Solomon Reed. She learns that she has been in a coma for two years, and that Myers has been keeping tabs on her recovery. Driven by a new sense of duty to the NUSA, and a personal devotion to Rosalind Myers, V becomes the President's personal FIA agent, and the pair are rarely separate for long. Rumours abound Washington of the nature of their relationship. Is it merely business, or is there something else going on? Meanwhile, in Night City, people deal with the changes in the aftermath of V's presumed death at the hands of Adam Smasher inside Arasaka Tower. Left with the important task of continuing Judy Alvarez's work in tuning virtus for the Mox after her departure from Night City with her new wife, Bianca, Valerie Ocampo-Gonzalez (first seen in Brother's Shadow) and her wife, Melanie, bristle under the weight of Judy's legacy with the Mox. All the while, a conspiracy begins to unfold.
Thank you to @wanderingaldecaldo but also everyone else who has enabled my spiral into Myers brainrot.

It’s On Sale: Shell Cordovan Wallets
For those who missed out on Chester Mox’s shell cordovan wallet sale a few weeks ago, they’re both reintroducing and expanding it this week. For the next seven days, you can knock $75 off their #54 shell cordovan card cases with the checkout code ShellDisc; $100 off their #90 shell cordovan bi-fold wallets with the checkout code 90ShellDisc; or a combined $180 discount off both with the checkout code SpecialDisc.
Like with the last batch of wallets, these are made from Italian shell cordovan. The leather has all the same glossy shine and finish of Horween’s shell, but is made with a more consistent thickness throughout (which Bellanie at Chester Mox tells me makes it easier to use for small leather goods). It also comes in a considerably wider range of colors. Whereas Horween these days mostly only pumps out shell cordovan in their signature #8 color, these Italian shells are available in everything from British racing green to deep navy to mocha brown.
As always, Chester Mox’s wallets are fully handsewn. Which means, instead of pushing a piece of leather through a sewing machine, these are made using an old technique known as saddle stitching (same as what’s done at Hermes, to a standard I think is just as good). Here, two needles pass through a single hole, which makes the seam both stronger and tighter. If you look closely, machine-sewn seams will always have visible holes, but saddle-stitched seams -- if well done -- are a bit neater. Just compare Chester Mox’s wallets pictured above with these machine-made shell cordovan wallets at Brooks Brothers. By comparison, the ones at Brooks look like they’ve been made with a nailgun.
To be sure, even with the discount, these aren’t cheap, but they’re more affordable than the machine-sewn shell cordovan wallets you’ll find elsewhere, and they’re fully customizable. Since everything is made-on-order, customers can choose their own combination of colors for the outer and interior leathers, the threads, and even a personalized, hot stamped monogram (should they want one). To see the options, first click “Shell/ Chevre” on the page, then click “Personalize It.” You’ll then get a new pop-up window.
Note, the sale ends next Wednesday, September 27th.

I’m a dad now, which means I have a vested interest in good quality Father’s Day gifts. So I thought it would be a good idea to put together a short guide. If you’re looking for gift ideas for a man who’s absolutely killing it as a father, and who’s into menswear and its attendant accessories, read on to learn how to take your gift ideas from yawnz to jawnz.
Here’s the deal
Every guy is different! That makes it hard to make a list of great gifts that are a blanket endorsement. So, I’m going to offer two sound gift-giving principles to go by, plus a few gift ideas if the dad in your life is into classic menswear like me (i.e. tailored suits and jackets, fine leather shoes, that sort of thing).
First, my overarching gift-giving principle, which I am going to call The Rule of Giving Gifts: Give something that the recipient loves and wants, but wouldn’t buy for themselves. This is my universal gift-giving principles because we all have stuff we want and buy for ourselves—and then there are the small luxuries; the things we would totally buy if money were no object, and opportunity cost wasn’t a thing. Receiving one of those things is always the best.
Tumblr media
Some specific menswear gift ideas
Before I get to the other general principle, let me list a few killer ideas my friend Zach P. gave me for cool gifts for a dad:
Any accessory from Drake’s.—This is an excellent suggestion and any man can appreciate something from the London-based menswear shop. If the man has a Continental style, get him a scarf to layer when the temperatures drop; if he likes looking put together, one of their ties is absolutely recommended.
Sunglasses from Allyn Scura
A wallet from Chester Mox. Extra jawnz points if it’s one made to be worn in the breast pocket of a tailored jacket.
A rugby polo from Magill LA
Birdwell Beach Britches swim trunks
Some house moccasins, such as from L.L. Bean or Minnetonka
Gift card to No Man Walks Alone for $100-200
The second guiding principle
That last suggestion from Zach leads perfectly into mysecond general guiding principle:if the guy has really specific taste that you feel makes it impossible to shop for him, don’t be afraid to get him a gift card to his favorite store with a suggestion for a product you had in mind. This is exactly how I am, and my wife says it makes shopping for me fraught. Thankfully in her case, my brother and I are both on similar wavelengths, so she’s able to talk to him for gift ideas when she buys me stuff, otherwise she’d have no idea! It’d be like me trying to buy her something for our home decor, like a rug or throw—I think I could choose something good, but the risk is high I’d screw it up.
This in turn leads to my brother Zack’s suggestion, which he gave me when I asked for his Father’s Day gift ideas:get something you know the father in question loves, but make it one step up in quality. It’s said that all you need to really enjoy a bottle of wine is to buy something in the next price tier above what you normally drink (so get a $20 bottle if you normally buy $10 bottles). In the same vein, if you know he gets a lot of enjoyment out of a fine dress shirt, get him a shirt that’s a step up in quality, make and fabric. Coming from Banana Republic, that might be upgrading him to a Hugo Boss shirt; coming from Brooks Brothers, that might be gifting him a Drake’s shirt; if he has trouble finding shirts that fit him well, that might be a custom shirt from Proper Cloth or Ratio. Or perhaps he loves pocket squares and ties; coming from The Tie Bar, that might mean upgrading him to a Brooks Brothers square and tie; coming from Brooks Brothers, it might mean upgrading to Polo Ralph Lauren; or if he loves Polo, upgrade him to Drake’s.
Or maybe he loves awesome leather shoes. Maybe he’s been buying Aldo, so you upgrade him to a pair from Beckett Simonon; or perhaps if he wears Johnston & Murphy, and you can upgrade him to Allen Edmonds; or from Allen Edmonds to Alden, Brooks Brothers’ Peal & Co., or a sleek European maker like Crockett & Jones.
Combining this advice with the principle that it’s okay to say “Here, I got you a $150 gift card to Drake’s so you can buy a sweet tie” means that you can put great thought into your purchase, even if he’s got very specific taste.
My own scattered recommendations and a few recommended shops
If you like the advice I have here, but aren’t sure what shops to even shop at, take a look at my Recommended Shops page. These are where I am shopping most of the time, and fully endorse the products they sell.
Here are a few random suggestions of my own
8. T-25, Transform:20, Insanity or any of Shaun T's other programs. — Big dork announcement: I do silly exercise moves that a ripped, shirtless dude on my phone tells me to do in our spare room in order to stave off Dadbod for 25 minutes a day. But, you know what? It's a one-time expense, no gym fees, no commute to the gym, and I save tons of time.
9. A leather weekend bag from Gustin.I was given one as a gift recently, and it's a superb bag, and an excellent gift.
10. Todd Snyder x Timex watch
11. Anglo-Italian polo shirt (inspired by a classic polo worn by mid-century style icon Gianni Agnelli)
12. White jeansfrom Sid Mashburn
13. A custom shirt from Ratio clothing(use code MM20 for 20% off, now until June 21)
14. A bracelet from Kiel James Patrick
15. A pair of suede chukka boots from Meermin
16. Non-dad-jean light wash jeans from Anglo-Italian, Levi's, or Drake's.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and I hope this guide is helpful for those looking to get the fathers in their own lives something that communicates how special he is to them!
(Help support this site by buying stuff through my links; your clicks and purchases earn me a commission from many of the retailers I feature, and it helps me sustain this site—as well as my menswear habit! Thanks!)

Waiting on this Hermes wallet review. Mine is on my last legs and I’m vacillating between an Mc2 Copernic of some variety and a classic Bottega that’s, like, 30% the price.
I’m unlikely to do an earnest review as I see wallets as a pretty long-term purchase. My last two wallets, a Louis Vuitton and custom Chester Mox lasted fifteen and five years, respectively. I only decidedly to replace the Mox because it was becoming bulky, causing irregular wear marks in the leather (a problem completely of my own making). Realistically I could have ridden it out for a few more years, but any excuse is a good excuse…
To avoid the bulk I forewent the traditional Mc2 and opted for its lower-profile, Euclide card holder style. I rarely carry cash, and therefore don’t need the extra space. Ultimately I settled on “bleu Brighton” Epsom calfskin. Had to know I was gonna go with some shade of blue.
So far it’s been great. The smaller size and thinner profile are exactly what I was after. I have days where I wish I would have gone with a more traditional color, but that’s on me. I’m sure it will serve me well for the next decade or so.
Super luxury wallets are certainly an indulgence. Just as a $500+ wallet will last for years, realistically so will a $50 wallet. Unlike shoes, where paying more allows for better wear or the opportunity for resoling, a wallet is a wallet is a wallet. I had to fight that realization when purchasing the Hermès. At the end of the day it boiled down to an indulgence I’ve been contemplating for years. It makes no sense, but the absurdity of luxury has been well-documented here and elsewhere.
Unless you are completely married to the “Hermès experience” (and it doesn’t sound like you are), I’m not sure the premium is worth it. Bottega Veneta makes an excellent wallet that will likely last just as long and age just as well. Save your money for something that is less dumb. Or swing for the fences and put it towards something completely dumb!

Here it is – my fifth annual gift guide. The frequent holiday sales make it too easy to focus on buying for yourself and forget about the impending holidays; I’m here to remind you that it’s time to put that shoe purchase on the backburner and start planning out what you’re getting your loved ones. This list is for the men that deserve your gratitude this year – maybe it’s a brother, a father, a friend, a husband, or someone else entirely. No matter what relation, here’s your unequivocal menswear gift guide for this holiday season. For the college kid: Perhaps it’s just my infatuation with that preppy, Ivy League lifestyle, but I will admit that I’ve always loved the look of vintage college sportswear – it lights up a nostalgia for a thing I never had, in a way. The issue is that the stuff in modern college stores is a far cry from it (cotton blend hoodies as far as the eye can see), but Hillflint has been making vintage-inspired collegiate clothing, and I love how they look. If I was still in college I would probably rock one of these (heck, maybe I still will). For the novice chef: It’s easy to accumulate gadgets in the kitchen, but there are some pieces that you just keep coming back to every day. A good knife is one of those things, but another is a great dutch oven. These do-anything, heavy-as-hell, stovetop-to-oven pots are my favorite kitchen staple, one that often gets overlooked. Great for searing, braising, stews, bread, and so much more, they are one of the kitchen pieces I could truly never live without. Le Cruset is the undisputed champion here (I recommend the 5.5qt size for maximum versatility, or 4.5 if you want something a bit more compact), but if the price is hard to swallow, check out Lodge as a high-value, relatively inexpensive alternative. Just remember that either way, you’re buying something that will probably get used for another 50+ years. For the guy that ‘doesn’t want a present’: A nice pair of socks is a way to get your gift-ee something great that they’d never get themselves, while keeping the dollar value relatively low. For excellent casual socks, check out CHUP and Anonymous Ism – both brands are made in Japan, feature wonderful, often whimsical designs, and are made to a high standard out of great materials. They’re available at many retailers, so be sure to do some googling if you want to see all the styles available. For the foodie: I love to cook, and I owe much of that love to J. Kenji Lopez-Alt – I cannot recommend his new book “The Food Lab” highly enough. As an engineer, I enjoy learning things that are backed up by data and tests, and that’s how Kenji approaches food. Old misconceptions are debunked, experiments are performed, and a lot of wonderful recipes are made in the process. This is a great book for people that want to understand the mechanics of food science, not just follow a recipe. At this price it’s an absolute steal – I already have two copies, just in case. For the budding mixologist: there’s an endless number of places to get information about making cocktails, but my favorite is Oregon’s own Jeff Morgenthaler. While he does run a blog (the archives are great), I highly recommend his book, aptly named the Bar Book. Much like Lopez-Alt’s the Food Lab, Morgenthaler writes his book with a focus on science, fundamentals, and technique. It’s an excellent resource for any cocktail enthusiast that wants to create great drinks at home. Is your guy a bit more advanced? Look no further than Dave Arnold’s Liquid Intelligence. Arnold is basically the boozy equivalent of a molecular gastronomy chef, and his book will probably want to make you buy a centrifuge. For the watch nerd: Leather watch straps look great, but they just don’t last that long (when compared to a watch, at least). If you know a watch guy, there’s a good chance at least one of their leather straps is in tatters right now. My favorite place for casual, rugged straps is Jesse at Guarded Goods, who makes great leather goods himself (mostly out of shell cordovan). For something dressy, Hodinkee always has deep stock of wonderfully tasteful high-end choices. For the recent college grad: A nice wallet doesn’t have to be expensive, but it will be appreciated every time it gets pulled out (which, if their entry into the workforce is anything like mine, will be way too often). Bellanie at Chester Mox and Parker at Pierpont Leather will make you an incredible walled by hand. You can see my reviews here and here, respectively. If you do go down this road, order soon (this week!), as they are made to order and require some lead time. For the grooming guru: Balling out on nice grooming tools is often overshadowed by the more consumable products, but they last a hell of a lot longer than that 3oz bottle of moisturizer that was $50. For my money, upgrading my nail clippers, as unsexy as it sounds, has made that grooming habit significantly more enjoyable. Seki Edge is one of the best when it comes to grooming tools, and their single clipper and two-piece set makes great stocking stuffers. If you want to go all-in, the 9-piece set has all the fixins. For the Outdoorsman: As far as I know, the best way to bring a bit of the outdoors inside is with house plants. With that said, plants don’t really look that good under the tree (and are a bit too easy to kill for a novice), so my personal favorite is plant-focused artwork. I’ve always enjoyed plant prints, and the ones I got from Chasing Nature years ago are still in my room. For original artwork, check out Erik Linton, who makes wonderful tree prints in the style of the late Bryan Nash Gill. There you have it! Good luck, and happy holidays.

One of my favorite new American brands Archival Clothing used to publish the same list of resolutions at the beginning of every year. I always loved them and I still believe in them - so I’ll post the list here on my blog for 2018. (The picture above is from my visit to the Chester Mox workshop in Los Angeles earlier this year - please read it here! I love the wallet.)
Archival Resolutions 2018
1. Decide that quality matters and pay for it. In the end, it will save you time and money.
2. Before you buy, be selective. Scrutinize items for build quality, fit, finish, functionality and lasting style. If an item is not perfect, catch and release it.
3. Do more with less. Add a few key pieces to your wardrobe and wear them until they dissolve.
4. Shop from yourself and from thrift shops. Repurpose strategic items from the past.
5. Support apparel companies that manufacture their products in the US. Buy products still proudly made in their traditional country of origin.
6. Contact manufacturers and let them know what they should offer. If you’re a woman and you love classic heritage styles, ask them to offer their products in your size.
7. Find out what products are manufactured in your region. Visit factories and publish reports.
8. Wear wool and linen year round. Experiment with summer weight woolens, and heavier linens.
9. Come up with a signature uniform. Wear it once a week.
10. Read historical newspapers and magazines. Learn about lost brands, fashions, and manufacturing traditions.
