𝐏𝐏𝐓𝐉: 𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒
Time to show ya'll the Altercanons for The Smiling Critters!! :D
(I have already looong posted them on my twitter but again for the Tumblr peeps I will post them here! :3)
From Oldest to Youngest!
Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Bubba Bubbaphant!
The smart and probably the most mentally stable one out of the bunch (more on that later-) being the oldest isn't really easy when you've got 7 younger friends most of which love to go on rowdy fun adventures, nonetheless he is always with them every step of the way whenever he can! (Mostly because he needs to keep them from accidentally getting themselves killed 💀)
His Talent
Bubba is capable of creating balls of light and is able to change the intesity of light sources around him, in combat he can create lightbulb shaped items and throw them at to flashbang opponents, disorienting them and giving him the advantage, though this uses up his own energy and so he needs to think carefully about how many he creates, or else he will likely pass out.
Tumblr media
KickinChicken!
The self-proclaimed cool guy of the critters. An daredevil who's always put looking for ways to have a lil fun, all the while making Bubba slowly lose his patience 😅 even though he may come off as an arrogant jerk to others, Kickin actually cares a lot about his friends and others more than he likes to admit! Just don't get on his nerves or he will make your life a living hell whenever given the chance!
His Talent
He can whip out three items of his choosing, whether it'd be a simple screwdriver or a flat out atomic bomb, all of which seem to follow a common theme 💀 though he is only lmited to three wishes and after using them all up he'd have to wait for an one hour cooldown before he can create more items again.
Tumblr media
CatNap!
Not a very talkative critter, neither is he really stable in ANY WAY to begin with, he went suddenly missing once for 3 whole weeks and came back never the same, for 9 whole months has he never ate, drank or even slept, and it's only a matter of time before one day he finally collapses in on himself...
His...Talent???...
He is able create sleep-inducing red smoke, making whoever is nearby inhale it and fall into a Deep Sleep... (it doesn't kill them dn)
Tumblr media
DogDay!
The leader of The Smiling Critters! And CatNap's best friend! This lovely sunshine is always ready for an adventure and bring a smile to everyone's faces no matter who they are! He is always standing up for what's right, willing to put his friends before himself.
His Talent?
His body glows a range of red to yellow whenever experiencing intense emotions, the hue and the temperature of his body depending on how intense the feeling is, if it is too intense his body is capable of burning the skin off of anybody who attempts to touch him.
Tumblr media
PickyPiggy!
The nature-loving and diet obsessed one of the group, she absolutely loves the wonders of mother nature, even owning an vegetable garden herself! She loves to eat but always makes sure she stays healthy when doing so! Though sometimes she is so entranced by eating food that she often forgets to keep up with the others and finds herself confused, she always feels like she has an reputation to uphold considering her father is a well-known cook in Critterville, to make things even less easy she has 12 younger brothers to take care of!
Her Talent
She is able to take and storage items within an infinite pocket dimension like a personal inventory in her pockets, though she needs to have actualy pockets for this to work, luckily she knows how to sew!
Tumblr media
Hoppy Hopscotch!
The physically active one of the group! And DogDay's beloved little sister! This rambunctious lil rabbit is willing to take on a challenge if it means having fun! Though she is really accident prone so she often gets herself hurt! (Pretty frequently actually-) but even so she doesn't know how to back down! While impatient and loud, she is happy to protect her friends from danger!
Tumblr media
CraftyCorn!
The shy and soft-spoken one! She's pretty timid but has an incredible creative side to her! She loves to create all kinds of art but most specifically loves to draw! Even though she may not have had the best first start of her life, but after moving into Bubba's home and becoming part of The Smiling Critters, she realizes she feels right at home.
Her Talent
She is able to mend and shape paint however and whatever she wants it to be! Whether it is colorful wings of freedom or another way to paint, she needs to have paint at her disposal though.
She is also capable of magic of her own! But due to her previous living conditions she was never able to tap into her gift and discover the wonders of unicorn magic all that much, though luckily Bubba has enrolled her to equestrian classes to help her with that problem! <)
Tumblr media
Bobby Bearhug!
The sweetest and youngest one out of the group! She was found alone outside near the Critters' treehouse, ever since then Bubba has taken her under his wing and has been taking care of her since, it is unknown what happened to her parents it has been assumed that they had just abandoned her.
Her Talent
She is able to sense the true intentions of a person's heart, helping her know who is worthy of trust or not, she is also able to sense the emotions of an individual though this can be physically and even mentally exhausting, making her needing to take frequent naps to gain her energy back.
Aaaand that is all I have for today!
I hoped you enjoy these Altercanons and if you have any questions regarding them or this AU feel free to ask in my ask box! :3
(repeat users are okay btw!)

Dear Yuletide Writer!
Dear Yuletide Writer!
It is this time of the year again and I’m very happy we both take part in Yuletide - and that I have you as my assigned author (or, as a pinch hitter)! You seem to be a talented writer and very giving person, and also to have quite good taste in fandoms - otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this, would you?
Now, here are some things about me: I am German (so feel absolutely free to write in German if you are able and want to!). I work as a teacher for biology and German literature and I love all things artsy and crafty. Which, of course, includes fanfiction, since it is both artsy and crafty. In order to help you find some inspiration and ideas for the story you’re about to write, I’d like to tell you some things about what I like and dislike and what I love about my fandoms. Here we go:
Likes: I like Happy Endings! :) Yay! Especially at Christmas. Really, I do. I honestly believe Happy Endings to be one of the things that made mankind tell stories in the first place. This world can be scary and mean and unfair and hard - so why not use our creative mind to create a different world that is peaceful and good and fair (in the end)? Don’t get me wrong, a Happy Ending need not be all sweet sunshine and sugary cupcakes and unicorns. From time to time, I enjoy a good darkfic, but especially at Christmas time I prefer something at least optimistic in tone. I hereby confess that I’m a hopeless idealist and romantic. (Although, I think, the Nibelungenlied may be a story that really is not made for a happy ending, so you absolutely can go darker with this fandom.)
While I appreciate some good humor, yet for some reason plain comedy isn’t really my cup of tea.
I like the characters in my fandoms! Very much. They are the cause I chose those fandoms for yuletide! And likely you like them, too. So show to me what makes them special, what they can do that no other person could, what drove their authors to tell us about them in the first place, and most of all, what you love about them! I’d love to read about the lesser known sides of characters - but that does not mean I won’t enjoy their established traits very much, too. It is both that makes them complex and life-like. I should add that I really am much more interested in the “good guys”, who - in my eyes, too often get disregarded in favour of “the interesting wicked guys”. It is my sincere opinion that the goodies can be at least as interesting.
What about porn? Yes, please - if you feel like it. Personally, I’m not so much into the technical details as in the feelings for the participants, the intimacy, the thrill, the thoughts, the small things, a touch of realism. And I much rather would have a story without any sexytimes than one with a scene that does not stick true to the overall vibe or has make you feel uncomfortable in writing. In case of kinkyness - if you can justify it in-character and in-story, this is absolutely fine! Maybe a little festish may work wonders to symbolize some deep-rooted feelings or wishes? (I believe, this could work quite well for the Kudrunlied…) Of course, if you do not like any of it, that’s completely fine, too!
Speaking of which… Dislikes: As I’m sure you may have guessed from what I said already, I don’t like fics that include character death(s) and accurately described cruelty (physically or otherwise). I’d prefer the (main) characters to stay alive. At least at Christmas. Please  - do not let anyone die and please don’t make atrocities the point of your story. Otherwise I don’t think I’d be able to enjoy it.
What I like about the fandoms: Charité (TV, 2017) There is so much I like about this series - somehow it seemed to be a dream come true: all the loving research that went into the tiniest nerdiest details of medicine history (Virchow’s bureau, the notion that not everyone instantly bought the “illness is caused by little animals”-idea of Koch, injections being given into the shoulder, Behring using his own horse for research purposes etc. etc.), the charming aesthetics, the overall idea of a series about an important moment in medicine history, the nod to the crucial part deaconesses (women!) and Diakonie (the idea of Christian charity!) at whole played in the establishing of modern medicine! Being a biology teacher, I knew about most of the persons shown, yet had never had a chance to see and show them to my pupils this lifelike, even if of course the series is fictional! Also, it is great how so many diverse life styles of the Wilhelminian Era were shown… I’ve never seen anything the like before.
Here are some plot bunnies that you may or may not use: I'd love to have a "Chrismassy" fic - Advent and Christmas time at the Charité. How do the people we love from the series celebrate? How do they prepare for the season? Do the give or receive gifts? What do they love (or dread) about Christmas? Does it bring back memories or do they make new ones? Would like the mood to be light and warmhearted and festive in general, even if darker tones are inevitable, I think, given the time period and it being a hospital. Obviously, my greatest love is for Therese/Ida or Therese&Ida, but feel free to include as many people from the series as you like. I'm sure Matron Martha and Nurse Edith for example would lend themselves nicely to this. Or: Sister Therese is sent to a sanatorium - maybe there she comes to terms with herself, gets visited by Ida or meets another love interest – more or less a more optimistic, feminist version of the MagicMountain ;) Or solely some little getaway of her with Ida on a Sunday leave in Berlin.
Feel free to use as many characters from the series and make up as many OCs as you like! I would be especially delighted if Matron Martha makes an appearance.
Kudrunlied I really like the dynamics between the women of this epic. Especially Gerlint - Kudrun - Ortrun.
Gerlint  could have been shown so easily as simply the evil queen, but isn’t. The author calls her “she-wolf” and tells of her cruel deeds and plans on Kudrun, yet in the same instance, shows her as competent queen, dutiful wife and loving mother who may have deserved death, but not like this and not what happened to her body. I love the complexity in this! The relationship between Gerlint and Kudrun seems to have something of a hate-love, with not so little sexual undertones in the scene, where Gerlint plans to whip Kudrun by herself, with no one around. If you want to elaborate on this impression (not neccessarily this scene!),
And think of Ortrun, who seems to be the nicest person who ever lived! Caught between two stools, with her duty and love for her mother and brother - and on the other hand side her loyality and friendship (or is there even more?) for Kudrun. Comparing her to the other two women, she seems the weak one - but is she? She was the only one who dared to protest Kudrun’s ill treatment - even if only by crying in public.
(Also, Hildburg, the quiet, yet totally loyal friend – why is so so steady and persistent when everybody around her is not? From where does she takes her resources – in a situation as bad as hers is?   And how did Hartmuot perceive all this? He seems a knight in shining armour, a good man through and through - and yet he did not gain the one he loved.) Feel free to use as many people from the epic as you like. My favourite, I think, would be Gerlint, though. And I really would enjoy some femslash – although absolutely, this isn’t necessary, especially if it isn’t your coup of tea.
Not a person in the story (or maybe, in some way, it is): I really love how much this story is about the sea! Ships and crashing waves, castles that have windows that look out to the ocean, whole battles on sandbanks, longing for your loved ones on the other side of the great water, standing in the foam with naked feet, freezing and washing and living and loving by the banks of that wonderful, enigmatic, overwhelming, epic force of nature.
DSA – Das Schwarze Auge (The Black Eye – Pen&Paper Roleplaying Game)
If you are not familiar with this fandom (which is highly likely), it is something like „the“ German Dungeons&Dragons. And, sadly, because of its overwhelming mass of fantasy world folklore and history would not make for a good substitute fandom, I’m afraid.
In this world, I always felt most „at home“ in Nostria, one of the two „warring kindoms“. People from the Empire may look down upon that small swathe of land in the North, with its mostly unlettered people, prone to superstition and fatalistic resignation, doomed to war against their neighbor country forever. Yet it is the land of helpful, hard-working, resourceful people at the same time, persevering all strokes of fate.
And the story of „our beloved Queen“ quite touched me. Just imagine being a student learning for exams, then the news of an epidemic in the city – and the next thing you know is the information that everyone of your relatives is dead and – congratulations! you are queen! (And bound forever to this jerkwater country and shark pool of nobility, shattering all dreams of seeing the world and becoming a great magician.) I really liked her depiction in Carolina Möbis‘ „Mehrer der Macht“. And despite me normally not being a big fan of romance (sub)plots in novels, found the one of Yolande and Eilert highly believable… and highly sweet. There is no fiery passion, no brimming-with-desire-underneath, no epic declaration of undying love, no princessy behaviour, no shining armour. They are two adults that happen to share a lot of the same problems and ideals, understanding each other only too well, and their mutual love and fondness for each other stems from deepest respect for the other person. Even if, on the surface, they have so little in common, even if they disagree about a lot of things (or maybe, because of this) their love story was one of the most convincing ones I’ve read in my lifetime. So sad their fate will be some state of constant arguing, since this is Nostria and they are bound to the magic of the land.
I would love to have some happy little refuge for them both – some short time, somewhere, little getaways from the oppressing dutys of everyday politics for a queen and prince consort.  I’d like to see their fondness for each other (and, growing love) fleshed out a little more, sneak a little into how they settle into their private lives as newlyweds or how they stand their ground against the higher nobility and, Rondriane von Sappenstiel? How they negotiate their relationship, in private and in public? What do they love about each other? How do they tackle their quarrels?
Hm… and I think that’s pretty much all I can think of. :)
May the Muses be grateful! Have fun writing!

Off the Bat
providentially-demonic submitted:
A short Harry Potter/MSA AU for you!
They had pooled their money, counting Galleons and Knuts and Sickles to be sure they had enough, though Lewis had assured her that if they came up short, his folks would be more than willing to help out. Vivi was determined they could afford it on their own. Arthur deserved the very best and if she had to shell out every single bronze Knut she had, she would get it for him, she’d declared defiantly.
It had taken some time to get away from Lewis’s parents, the Pepper’s considering the three of them under their guardianship during the shopping trip to Nation Alley, just off of the Bloody Angle, through the back wall of an old Chinese Laundry. It was Vivi’s third trip, Lewis’s second and Arthur’s first. Arthur had been unnerved and had clung to the back of Lewis’s shirt until Mama had taken his hand, leading him through the wall of moving machinery into the wonders of Nation Alley. America had all sorts of immigrants, not all of them of the muggle kind, evidenced by the centaur in a plaid shirt with a handcart, selling enchanted arrows. His thick greek accent stood out clearly over the babble. Brightly colored pigeons darted back and forth between buildings, like feathery fireworks. A witch on a battered Nimbus was trying to get a mangy tabby off of an awning, cursing in something that sounded like Chinese. A woman whose outfit seemed to consist of nothing but layers of colorful scarves that moved in an unseen wind held court at a sidewalk cafe table, attended by dozens of varied Kneazles, who watched everyone with intelligent eyes.
Arthur stayed attached Lewis’s mother, taking in everything but saying nothing, his amber eyes wide as saucers. Their first stop had been for new robes, Arthur’s old ones far too short and shabby now, and the old ones of Lewis’s getting shorter. Arthur was hitting a growth spurt and was already several inches taller than Lewis, and Mama had insisted with the winter quarter coming up, he needed ones that actually reached his ankles.
While he was being measured by the fussy seamstress and her assistant who looked suspiciously like a Brownie, Vivi had pulled Lewis away and they had snuck out of the shop. Vivi had unerringly lead the way to a brightly painted shop with a elegant sign depicting a white owl perched on the horn of a dainty unicorn. “Flit’s Fair Familiars” scrolled in looping letters under the hooves of the unicorn.
Lewis looked dubiously at the sign… “Can Unicorns be familiars?”
Vivi elbowed him sharply. “Does it matter?” She headed for the door.
Lewis followed her, but not without one last sideways look at the sign. “Kinda, yeah?”
Vivi rolled her eyes. “Hurry up. We don’t have much time before they notice we’re gone.”
“Can I get some owl treats while we’re here?”
Vivi pulled him away from the rack and past a basket of humming puffskeins. “Depends on how much this will cost first.”
Lewis followed her tugs to a darkened corner of the store, where she peered at a cluster of brown bats hanging from a rafter.
Lewis squinted. In all honesty, he didn’t think they looked anywhere near as cute as Page had, but he agreed with Vivi, Arthur needed a familiar, and one with a longer life expectancy than a rat. He’d wanted to get an owl, like his sweet little Poblano, but Vivi had pointed out that with his propensity for rats, mice and other rodentia, Arthur would not care much for a creature that made meals of them. Lewis frowned and backed up a step, hoping a change in perspective would make them look somehow more appealing.
He bumped into something solid and warm. “Now, what would the two a’you be doin’ in here without a keeper, eh?”
Vivi yipped and jumped a foot in the air. She whirled. “Professor Calder!”
Professor Calder regarded them both down the length of his nose. He’d forgone his robes and was dressed in a charcoal-gray cable-knit sweater over blue jeans, His black dress shoes contrasted sharply with the casual look of his attire. His long black hair was pulled back in a neat queue, unlike the usual braid. He tipped his head to one side, the corner of his mouth pulling down in a frown. “Well, I’m waitin’ for an answer.”
Lewis bit his lip, trying not to shrink back behind Vivi. He really didn’t want to get in trouble with Mama. and he just knew the Professor would remember this when classes started after break. “Um, I— um— I need— needed s-some owl treats f-for Poblano,” he stammered uncomfortably.
Vivi sighed and reached back to thump his shoulder. “You can’t lie for beans, Lew.” She squared her shoulders and looked up at the much taller man, meeting his green eyes squarely. “We want to buy a new familiar for Arthur. He’s been really down since— since Page died.”
Calder’s stern expression softened. Arthur had holed up in the classroom several times after the rat’s death, despondent, and Calder had helped the three of them chose a final resting place for the much-beloved creature, helping a crying Arthur make a headstone for the makeshift gravesite. “Ah. Dontcha think Arthur should have some say in this?”
Lewis started to nod, but Vivi shook her head fiercely. “No. It has to be a surprise, because if he tries to help us choose, he’ll start thinking of Page again and be sad. I want him to be happy again. And it has to be something that lives a lot longer than a rat. I can’t see him go through this again in just a few years.” She looked defiant, but her hands were shaking. She knew how much trouble they would be in if Calder took it upon himself to take them back the Pepper’s.
Calder’s shrewd gaze slid over the cluster of bats in their roost. “You were thinkin’ a bat then? Knowin’ the lad’s got a soft spot the size of an ocean for squeakers.” He reached up and scratched one of the tiny bats under the chin.
Vivi’s shoulders relaxed and she heaved a sigh. “I read up on them, They live between twenty and thirty years in the wild, and wizard-breds always live longer than no-maj kinds. And they look cute, which he’d like.”
Calder laughed, a rolling sound of amusement, startling the bat he was petting. “Clever Vivi, always readin’ up. Careful, lass, if you’re not careful, folks’ll start thinkin’ you’re in the wrong house.”
He glanced over his shoulder at the proprietor, “Bundle my order, then, there’s a love, Aislin—  and have it sent on up to the school. Charge my classroom account and keep a couple o’sickle’s back for each of the courier owls. They’ll ha’e earned it.” He waved at the young woman behind the counter and turned to the door. “You two come with me.”
The two students warily followed him across the cobbled street to Porlock’s Potables, a wooden building that smelled of fresh hay. He grinned at the serving girl and ordered two warmed butterbeers and “A glass of the usual, love.”
He ushered Vivi and Lewis into a booth in the back corner and sat across from them. “So you were thinkin’ a bat— did you have any ideas on what kind?
Lewis hunched his shoulders and cupped his hands around the warmed mug the serving girl set in front of him. “Something big and clever. It need to be to carry things.”
“An’ t’stay safe from the school owls, eh? Good thought, lad.” Calder tossed back his glass of something dark and potent-smelling before pulling a small mirror from his back pocket. “I might be able to help with that. Ptero, answer your mirror, wouldya?”
A lean, tanned face appeared in the mirror, large glasses giving brown eyes an owlish look. “Ello, mate. What ya needing today? I just—”
Calder laughed and waved a hand. “Nothin’ for me, friend, but I ha’e a couple of friends here lookin’ for a bat for their friend. Needs to be fairly large, so the owls hereabouts don’t think lunch. Any recommendations?”
“Course! I have some flying foxes I been breeding for the local nightwatch witches, lovelies one and all, and I ain’t just talking about the bats.” The face on the mirror offered a broad wink.
“Spare me talk of that. You think one of them might do?”
“Oh, better even. My roosts are smart as whips and clever as Kneazles with their wing-claws. I got a couple rares that the watch canna use. Too noticeable-like and easy as one-two-three to spot on a dark night, so’s the witches can’t use them.”
“Rares? There somethin’ wrong with ‘em, Ptero?” Calder leaned forward, his easygoing smile slipping away. “You wouldna be tryin’ to pawn a sick beastie off on me students, wouldya?”
Ptero paled under his tan. “No, all my roosts are healthy as can be. I have them checked monthly by the local wizarding council. No, I got me a couple of piebalds. One of my roosts threw a couple of pups with leucism. Whiter than white with black mottling. Smart as or smarter than their roostmates and in good health, I swear, just too easily seen for nightwatch. But that wouldn’t be a bit of a problem for a student, now would it?”
“Can we see one?” Vivi demanded, up on her knees in the booth so she could see the mirror.
Ptero nodded and stepped out of range of the mirror, though his voice still came through. “Here now, spotty-gal, might have a place for you after all.”
He came back into sight with a bat the size of a small cat clinging to his shoulder. He hadn’t lied, it was mostly white with black patches on its thin wings and a small patch like a cap on its white head. It had bright intelligent eyes and squeaked softly at them through the mirror. “She’ll be getting a bit bigger, she’s not quite weaned yet.” Ptero added, scratching the white chin inil the bat went all but cross-eyed with bliss.
Vivi was instantly in love, Lewis could tell by her expression. “She’s perfect. How much?”
Ptero looked crafty for a moment until Calder cleared his throat. “Um, for you nine Galleons and seven Sickles; that’s at cost. Course there’s still the matter of getting her from here to there. Shipping costs, even by floo network.”
Before Vivi could look sick at that, Calder waved a hand. “I’ll worry about transport for her.”
Lewis spilled out their money pouch and was counting out coins with care, one at a time. It took nearly everything they had managed to save, but they had enough.
Calder watched him count and nodded to Ptero. “We’ll be takin’ her then. I’ll contact you with details later.” He tapped the frame of the mirror and it went dark.
Vivi squealed and hugged Lewis and then, to Professor Calder’s surprise, attacked him with a hug as well. He tossed his head up like a startled horse but warily patted her on the back.
“Alright, then. You two should be gettin’ back. I’ll send an owl with pick-up details. I should like to be there when you give her to the lad, though.”
Lewis nodded and handed him the money before grabbing Vivi’s hand and hauling out of there. He hoped Mama hadn’t missed them yet!
“Lewis Pepper!”
Oh no.

Dear Yuletide Writer
Dear Yuletide writer,
I’m very happy we both take part in Yuletide this year - and that I have you as my assigned author (or, as a pinch hitter)! You seem to be a talented writer and very giving person, and also to have quite good taste in fandoms - otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this, would you?
Now, let me say some things about me: I am German, a teacher for biology and German literature and a lover of medieval literature and all things artsy and crafty. Which, of course, includes fanfiction, since it is both artsy and crafty.
In order to help you find some inspiration and ideas for the story you're about to write, I'd like to tell you some things about what I like and dislike and what I love about my fandoms. Here we go:
Likes: Since I had some nasty Yuletide story experiences in the last years that literally had me in tears (and not joyful ones) at christmas(!) - I’ll say it from the beginning:
I like Happy Endings! :)
Especially at Christmas. Really, I do. I mean it. Period. I honestly believe Happy Endings to be one of the things that made mankind tell stories in the first place. This world can be scary and mean and unfair and hard - so why not use our creative mind to create a different world that is peaceful and good and fair (in the end)? Did I mention I like Happy Endings, btw? I did? Good, because I do.
Don't get me wrong, a Happy Ending need not be all sweet sunshine and sugary cupcakes and unicorns. From time to time, I enjoy a good darkfic, but especially at Christmas time I prefer something at least optimistic in tone. (And no, the hero dying twice without anyone acknowledging his lifetime of struggling, or close friends that have to part forever, becoming foes are not the kind of happy ending that I think of!)
I appreciate some good humor, yet for some reason plain comedy isn’t really my cup of tea.
I like the characters in my fandoms! Very much. They are the cause I chose those fandoms for yuletide! And likely you like them, too. So show to me what makes them special, what they can do that no other person could, what drove their authors to tell us about them in the first place, and most of all, what you love about them! I'd love to read about the lesser known sides of characters - but that does not mean I won't enjoy their established traits very much, too. It is both that makes them complex and life-like.
I like the seasons and colours and all of the wonderful possibilities of using them as symbols.
What about porn? Yes, please - if you like. Personally, I’m not so much into the technical details as in the feelings for the participants, the intimacy, the thrill, the thoughts, the small things, a touch of realism. And I' much rather have a story without any sexytimes than one with a scene that does not stick true to the overall vibe. I don't see my fandoms for this year being especially suited for porn - but what do I know? If you have just the ideal idea for the perfect setting, surely I'm not the one to stop you. ;)
In case of kinkyness - if you can justify it in-character and in-story, this is absolutely fine! Maybe a little festish may work wonders to symbolize some deep-rooted feelings or wishes? Of course, if you do not like any of it, that’s completely fine, too!
Speaking of which...
Dislikes: As I’m sure you may have guessed from what I said already, I don’t like fics that include character death(s) and accurately described cruelty. I’d prefer the (main) characters to stay alive. At least at Christmas. Please, please, please  - do not let anyone die!!!
I think it would be okay to have Gerlint in the “Kudrun” be cruel, since it is canon and of course the Njals saga wouldn't be a saga without a lot of period typical violence - yet, if possible, don't make atrocities the main point of the story. I won't be able to enjoy it.
What I like about the fandoms:
Brennu-Njals saga
I really like the saga style in general, seemingly an objective account of historical events - yet the opinion of the author all too visible now and then. ;) There is no clear bad/good dychtomy regarding the characters like we are used to in storytelling nowadays, instead every person is shown very much as a complex individual with their own struggles.
Prompt: I'd like to read more about Hallgerd than the saga(s) provide us. She is such a fascinating figure - and it is very clear the author of the Njals saga thinks so, too! He could have easily made her an evil bitch, yet chooses not to do so. I think there is a lot of points you could elaborate on.
For example, what about her childhood? - I'm especially interested in her relationship with her mother and her brother Olaf Pai. (Was there a sibling rivalry - or did she maybe like him very much?) And where does her mysterious name "longbrok" come from?
Second, what about Thjostolf, her foster-father (that very much gives the impression of a would-be- or ex-lover)? Everyone in the saga seems to dislike him, only Hallgerd again and again excuses him (until he slays the husband she loves).
And what makes her relationship to Glum seemingly the most healthy and loving relationship in her lifetime? What about little Thorgerd, who loses her father? What does she think about her mother? (Heck, what does she think about her own strange bethrothal and marriage??? Thorgerd would be an absolutely fascinating person to write about, also. Feel absolutely free to write about Thorgerd!)
And Gunnar? Did Hallgerd ever truly love Gunnar - and why and when does she cease to do so? What did he see in her - not if all of his friends didn't warn him to not marry Hallgerd!
You may absolutely write about all of the people in the tags (or anyone that merits a name in the saga) - yet I'm least interested in Bergthora.

Kudrun
I really like the dynamics between the women of this epic. Especially Gerlint - Kudrun - Ortrun.
Gerlint  could have been shown so easily as simply the evil queen, but isn't. The author calls her "she-wolf" and tells of her cruel deeds and plans on Kudrun, yet in the same instance, shows her as competent queen, dutiful wife and loving mother who may have deserved death, but not like this and not what happened to her body. I love the complexity in this!
The relationship between Gerlint and Kudrun seems to have something of a hate-love, with not so little sexual undertones in the scene, where Gerlint plans to whip Kudurn by herself, with no one around. If you want to elaborate on this impression (not neccessarily this scene!), I'm absoluteley fine with femslash.
She was the only one who dared to protest Kudrun's ill treatment - even if only by crying in public.
And how did Hartmuot perceive all this? He seems a knight in shining armour, a good man through and through - and yet he did not gain the one he loved.
Feel free to use as many people from the epic as you like. My favourite, though, would be Gerlint.
So: May the Muses be gracious! Best wishes, elektra121
