#Cristof: h e y
A burst of agitated whispers erupts from his students, drawing Cristof back into the room.
A whine: ‘Stop pinching me, Vincenzo.’
A hiss: ‘I’m not touching you.’
‘Yes you are.’
‘Am not.’
Ah, Cristof thinks, to be a glorious future leader of the Venetian Republic harassing a potential colleague with chalk. Turning to his students, he finds several with dusty cheeks and marks across their clothes. He exudes an air of disapproval.
‘Alright,’ he claps hands. ‘Let’s hear it. Vincenzo, since you were so full of gusto, why don’t you start us off.’
‘I wasn’t pinching Francesco, maestro.’ The boy declares, standing with an air of authority. ‘He pinched himself.’
‘I did not,’ Francesco scowls.
Cristof points to young Vincenzo’s slate. ‘Read.’
Cristof and his very noble, very serious, very scholarly students who aren’t at all a bunch of miscreants.

Name: Nerissa
Age: 21
Pronouns: She/Her
Species: Siren/Kanima Hybrid
Occupation: Employee at Rock and Roll Records
Faceclaim: Benedetta Gargari
~ B I O G R A P H Y ~
With a fearsome loyalty ingrained into her DNA, Nerissa’s upbringing was nothing shy of damaging. Being one of the older hybrids, you would have thought that she’d be keen to protect her younger siblings. But Nerissa was manufactured to look after only herself and her master. It wasn’t that she never cared, or never loved; she definitely did. She was inclined to comfort but if it came down to defending anyone but herself of Cristofer, she simply could not. Cristofer would relish in the control he had over her, and often would be able to manipulate her against her siblings. With her Siren DNA, her singing voice was something of a hypnotic weapon. If he instructed her to sing to her siblings, they would be placed under a trance, and though she would obey this order, she was always conflicted about betraying them in this way. Because of the way she was so often used against them, Nerissa over time came to accept that she might not ever obtain the total trust of her fellow hybrids. Since living in Sunnybrooke, she feels hatred for ‘Father’ (she always called him ‘Master’, and so now he is not that anymore, she refuses to call him 'Father’, and instead refers to him as simply 'Him’), though keeps silent the fear of him reinstating himself as her controller. She has tried to form bonds with the other hybrids though has struggled greatly, and instead, became relatively self sufficient with the allowance of her new master, Felix.
Her abilities have never been something she’s become comfortable with. She wishes she could sing without hypnotising someone nearby; she’s saving up to soundproof her apartment. The only other power she has in relation to Sirens is enhanced senses and, if you can call it a power, extreme beauty. However, that beauty is compromised when her master commands her to transform. Her Kanima DNA would see her, under these instructions, transform into a gigantic serpent with a paralyzing bite. She cannot manipulate the change herself, and so therefore has not been in her serpentine form since arriving in Sunnybrooke. For a week after the transformation, patches of snake skin remain on her body.
Otherwise, she very seldom blinks, and can talk to and influence snakes.
~ P E R S O N A L I T Y ~
Much like a snake, Nerissa is cunning and calm. She’s usually quite stoic, and can be unnervingly lacking of emotion at times. Her attributes in this respect are because of her species, rather than the effects of childhood trauma. Her upbringing resulted in her remaining conflicted as to which side of the fence she belongs on, for in her mind, she is a monster that has been given the benefit of the doubt. She’s relatively fearful of love and friendship, deeming herself as untrustworthy. Having had her actions controlled for so long, the shock of being given free reign of her own conscience has rendered her terrified and hesitant in discovering everything she has been missing out on.

'Is there someone down there?' She whispers.
Marco pauses, leans over the balcony and looks, listens, shakes his head. 'I can't hear anything.'
'I swore I heard something.'
'There's no one—or if it is someone, it's Giovanni or Pietro or someone else in that household. One of his chief workmen has a penchant for, well, never mind.'
'For what?'
'Reading about Achilles and Patroclus. Now, come on. I'll see you home.'
Osanna cannot work out what the Illiad has to do with someone lurking at the foot of the stairs, but if Marco thinks there is nothing to be concerned about then she will not be concerned.
Obligatory reference to The Greeks in a story with some queer main characters? Check. I’m a writing genius.
Cristof would be like, ‘really, Marco? that’s the best you can do?’
Marco: I’m preoccupied at the moment juggling about five hundred things. I’m too busy to think of good references for sodomy.

Name: Kara Murphy
Age: 25
Pronouns: She/Her
Species: Banshee
Occupation: Emergency Medical Technician
Faceclaim: Hayden Panettiere
~ B I O G R A P H Y ~
Growing up, Kara always knew she wanted to help people. She liked to play nurse or doctor on the playground, and found medical and anatomy books fascinating. She had a normal childhood, belonging to a middle-upper class family who, for all intents and purposes, were normal. And although Kara always seemed to sense danger right before it happened, nobody thought anything of it other than perhaps she had intuition about things.
It was only when she turned sixteen and started having nightmares about death. When she woke up, she’d be in unfamiliar places beside dead bodies. At first, she was afraid she’d kill them without knowing. But after extensive police investigation that instead led the authorities to the real killers, she realized she wasn’t killing the people she found, she was predicting where they’d be. Kara began researching into her family history, and discovered that her grandmother and great-great grandmother were both creatures called “banshees.” They could predict death, sense it, and be guided toward it. But they could never prevent it.
Once Kara knew the truth about herself, she decided that it wasn’t enough to just find bodies after the fact. She wanted to be able to predict death and do whatever she could to stop it before it happened. After high school, she went into medical school, deciding to become an EMT in the hopes that she could predict danger and arrive on the scene with enough time to help the person before they died. It was in school that she met Kieran Caldwell. She was drawn to him immediately, and though at first she didn’t understand it, she quickly realized that he was the Hell Hound “linked” to her banshee. She’d read about her grandmother and great-great grandmother’s Hell Hounds, and was able to help Kieran understand where he came from and what his duties were.
Since then, they’ve been working as a team. She’d attempt to save the people she predicted would die, but if she couldn’t, he’d be the one to make sure their souls entered the afterlife. For six years they’ve been working together, and when Kara saw the take-down of Cristofer on the news, she knew she and Kieran had to go to Sunnybrooke. She couldn’t explain it, but she just knew something terrible was going to happen there.
~ P E R S O N A L I T Y ~
Kara is kind and compassionate. She’s always willing to help others and it devastates her whenever she cannot save someone. Despite the death that surrounds her, she’s friendly and outgoing, always willing to make new friends despite the inevitability of their passing. She loves life and celebrating it whenever possible, often seeking out parties and social gatherings in order to bask in it.
She’s also rather bossy and tends to railroad people when she wants a certain thing to get done or get her specific point of view across. She doesn’t like it when people disagree with her, and often gets into debates or arguments, especially with Kieran. The two have very different opinions on their supernatural professions, and the tension between them often stems from their disagreements. Their partnership may be strong, but their friendship is often strained.

~ S U N N Y B R O O K E ~ C I T I Z E N ~
Name: Felix
Age: 23
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Vampire/Faerie Hybrid
Occupation: Employee at Palace Theatre
Faceclaim: Ezra Miller
~ B I O G R A P H Y ~
Felix was under no illusions growing up. Being one of the first experiments created by Cristofer, he knew exactly what he was to the scientist. He was an experiment. Not a son--even though Cristofer called him such--not a person. He accepted this, and did his best to make life easier for the other experiments that came after him. His “siblings.” Growing up, he would entertain them by telling them stories, trying to make them laugh, trying to bring some light into their lives underground, hidden from the world outside.
When the FBI came bursting through the doors of Cristofer’s lab, Felix shielded his siblings as best he could, afraid they would all be killed and willing to fight to give the others a chance to flee. Instead, they were rounded up and taken to Sunnybrooke. Placed in homes and given jobs that they weren’t able to choose for themselves, Felix thought that things could be worse. They could’ve been killed, they could’ve been separated. In his eyes, they still have each other and even if the rest of Sunnybrooke distrusts them, he considers his home to be wherever they are.
It took a few weeks, but once he got used to working at the Palace Theatre, Felix actually began to enjoy it. He definitely enjoys getting to sneak in and see movies for free whenever he wants. Media wasn’t a luxury any of them had in Cristofer’s lab, and he greatly enjoys watching the actors onscreen, thinking maybe he’d like to be one someday himself.
He also spends his days checking in on his siblings. He knows some of them are unhappy, most of them are scared, and he wants to distract them as best he can, just like he used to back in the lab. He considers this a chance for them all to find happiness as people and not as experiments, and he wants to do his best to help them on that journey.
As a vampire/faerie hybrid, he can drink blood though it isn’t necessary for his survival. He’s also extremely fast and strong and nearly indestructible due to his accelerated healing. He also has a natural affinity for magic, but he does not know this and therefore cannot do anything with it, yet.
~ P E R S O N A L I T Y ~
Although Felix is protective, he’s also somewhat of a drama queen. He enjoys making up stories, acting out in ridiculous ways to make others laugh, and tends to be somewhat dramatic (usually for comic effect). He does know when to be serious, however, and he considers himself fairly well practiced in comfort and encouragement.
Because he’s one of the oldest hybrid experiments from Cristofer’s lab, Felix feels a lot of responsibility toward his “siblings.” He’s extremely loyal to them and would do anything for them, especially to keep them safe. He is not prone to anger, but he will step up and knock someone down if they tried to hurt any of his fellow hybrids. He does harbor a deep-set hatred for Cristofer that he hasn’t completely addressed, and he finds it difficult to trust older men as a result, most specifically those in any sort of science or medical profession.
