Day 3 - Mouse from Ephemeral Fantasia wants to play you a song.
I know a lot of people won't know him, and if you do, I probably know far less than you about him. I really want to play this game, but I haven't been able to. One day!
As always, Inktober art is free to color! Just let me know how it turns out! I'd love to see it.

@tardybird the ephemeral fantasia fic that nobody asked for and nobody deserves, but here am............... scribbling it off anyway................
.
There exists a world beyond the sea. One could swim across the shore of the island’s long beach, and emerge on another country’s horizon. It is not theory; he has seen the evidence, the maps and compasses and solar movements. He had frozen the motion of the stars in the sky with such great effort, and not nearly the amount he needed to thaw his princess’ heart.
It is an objective thing. If he were to step outside these self-made bounds, he would be greeted with the turning of the earth, a cycle as constant and pitiless as erosion or despair. Xelpherpolis knows, perched atop his throne in a body he will soon shed, but he does not believe.
He had come from outside the island. He had been a young man, once, jaw not quite set and hair trimmed short instead of kept long. He had been someone’s son. He’d had a brother, and a sister whose wedding he’d attended the month before. He had arrived on some sort of errand– the visit had been a mere stopover, in truth, to where he’d really intended to go.
Xelpherpolis knows all this.
Sometimes he even remembers.
But the memory of 'before’ is the last thing he can fathom, every time he looks at Loreille (forces her to tip her head towards him) and the singing of his blood becomes too loud for any rationality, any certainty or absolutes– besides that he knows, KANON’s truth humming in his veins all over again, that there is no world that exists where either of them can escape this love.

I present, with limited introduction, the Spectrum of Catharsis, or how different mediums encourage different engagements
Dreams: I've never had a nightmare; I've only ever had lucid dreams. It's a play, a video game, where I am at once a singular player character, all of the NPCs, and the director. There is no conscious connection to the physical world or body, only the Fantasia of the mind, which might at any point alter the plot, dilate time, or shift to a new story to preserve engagement. Whatever happens, however disturbingly gentle or gently disturbed, I author and perpetuate and recieve all of it wholly in the space of the mind
Masturbation: In erotic fantasy, I am again every participant and at the same time a specified participant and simultaneously no participant at all. Every act, however sweet or depraved or transgressive remains fantasy - the imagined participants can sigh and contort and nuzzle and strain, while the only bodily sensation that reaches me is the motion and touch of the hands (Eve Sedgwick has a fascinating writing - Dialogue on Love - where she discusses being unable to masturbate after her masectomy because suddenly her fantasies needed to ratify whether the participants had one breast or two, either foreclosing or forcing identification, but I digress) (Is this type of complete identification something only possible in queer imaginings then? Where gender and body and identity are fluid abstracts? Where autoerotic doubling becomes an exercise in wordplay? I digress again)
Writing: In writing, I again direct the scene, at once speaking for and embodying every character and no character, safely behind the tactility of my hands, all the heights and discomfitures of plot reaching no further into the real than my fingers. I am aware, in this mode, of the possible existence of a future reader, of the need to justify my choices to my future publishers, to possibly receive future response, but in the act of writing there is only me, my fantasia and mimesis, and my hands.
Reading: Enter a new collaborator - the author, or dependent on the medium, the Illustrator or the narratorator. I am, through the book, engaged with another. Yet, at the moment of reading, all those affects the other shares reach me through that same self-possessed imagination and I am again a role player, fluidly identifying and disidentifying with all the players in the scene, experiencing their traumas and joys at the level of the ephemeral but at no level realer than hands upon the page, the moving of lips, the shuddering of breath or the loosing of tears.
TTRPG: I am doubled, self behind character, speaking words that pass not through my sensibilities but the demands of narrative and performance, receiving sentiments that pass through the buffer of character before reaching me. My hands role the dice, my facial expressions leap and twist in performative affect, but all is again gestural and labial - I describe the thrust of the sword without the cool of the hilt in my hand. I receive the blow without the snap of my jaw.
Acting: Again, the doubling, the self behind character. Foreclosure heightens as the words cease to be my own. Identification heightens as my whole body contorts to the performance, every muscle and affect engaged, stretching out and finally reaching others, body and prop. In acting, there is something to touch, a whole body to seat the character in, yet all is still character, still a show, still a false face to hide behind
Watching: Play, television, film - my mask, my buffers, are stripped. The characters are all visibly other people having experiences and emotions beyond the range of my influence. I am myself, and only myself, watching a scene unfold that I cannot impact. I have to turn my head when I am presented with more than I can take.
Jest: The Haunted House, the spectacle, the game, the practical joke. There is a layer of disreality, of certainty that however the scene appears, nothing here truly wishes to reach me or hurt me. And yet, it is still me, moving through these halls, having these bodily reactions
The Real: This is the hardest experience to swallow - all of me, situated fully in my body, in a scene with other people who are truly other people with their own structures and intentions, whose gestures and vocalizations can reach me and sooth me and cut me with the full weight of their measure. Looking away is not enough. It is feel or run.

The Timeless Beauty of Floral Patterns: A Delightful Fusion of Nature and Design
From fashion and home decor to art and textiles, floral patterns have remained a beloved choice, transcending trends and eras. This article explores the charm and versatility of floral patterns, tracing their historical significance and highlighting their contemporary relevance. A Blossoming History: The history of floral patterns can be traced back centuries, with civilizations across the globe incorporating floral motifs into their art and design. In ancient Egypt, lotus flowers and papyrus reeds adorned walls and textiles, symbolizing rebirth and fertility. The delicate cherry blossoms of Japan, known as sakura, have long been celebrated for their ephemeral beauty and have inspired countless artistic creations. During the Renaissance period, floral patterns became a prominent feature in European tapestries and decorative arts, signifying opulence and luxury. Symbolism and Meaning: Floral patterns have a rich symbolism attached to different types of flowers, allowing them to convey nuanced meanings. Roses, with their velvety petals, have been associated with love and passion. Sunflowers, with their vibrant yellow hues, symbolize happiness and vitality. Lilies, often depicted in religious art, represent purity and devotion. From dainty daisies to exotic orchids, each flower carries its own significance, enabling floral patterns to evoke emotions and narratives. Versatility in Design: One of the remarkable aspects of floral patterns is their versatility, effortlessly adapting to different design contexts. In fashion, floral prints can range from bold and vibrant to subtle and delicate, adorning dresses, skirts, blouses, and accessories. Home decor embraces floral patterns through wallpapers, upholstery fabrics, and decorative accents, adding a touch of natural splendor to living spaces. Floral motifs also grace ceramic ware, table linens, and even technological gadgets, bridging the gap between functionality and aesthetics. Contemporary Interpretations: While floral patterns have deep roots in tradition, they continue to evolve and find new expressions in modern design. Today, floral patterns can be found in a multitude of styles, catering to diverse tastes. Contemporary interpretations may showcase oversized blooms in abstract or watercolor-inspired designs, bringing a fresh and artistic perspective. Minimalistic floral patterns with clean lines and muted color palettes offer a modern twist, perfect for a sleek and sophisticated look. Larger prints make a bold statement, while smaller-scale prints can add a delicate touch. - Color Palette: Choose a color palette that complements the space or ensemble. Soft pastels create a romantic ambiance, while bold and vibrant colors lend a vibrant energy. - Mix and Match: Experiment with mixing floral patterns with other patterns, such as stripes or polka dots, for an eclectic and stylish ensemble or interior design scheme. - Accessorize: Use floral-patterned accessories, such as scarves, handbags, or throw pillows, to introduce floral elements without overwhelming the overall look. Floral patterns have stood the test of time, captivating generations with their timeless beauty and innate connection to nature. Whether adorning fashion pieces, home decor, or artistic creations, these patterns have an enduring appeal that transcends boundaries and trends. With their rich symbolism, versatility, and contemporary interpretations, floral patterns continue to bring the splendor of nature into our lives, reminding us of the perpetual beauty that blooms all around us.
TYPES OF FLORAL PATTERNS
Floral patterns come in a wide array of styles, each with its own unique characteristics and aesthetic appeal. Here are some types of floral patterns: - Realistic Floral Patterns: These patterns depict flowers in a realistic manner, capturing intricate details such as petal textures, leaf veins, and natural color variations. Realistic floral patterns aim to replicate the appearance of specific flower species, providing a lifelike representation. - Watercolor Floral Patterns: Watercolor floral patterns feature soft, delicate brushstrokes and translucent washes of color, mimicking the fluid and ethereal qualities of watercolor paintings. These patterns often evoke a sense of artistic elegance and can be found in various color palettes, from pastels to bold and vibrant hues. - Vintage Floral Patterns: Vintage floral patterns draw inspiration from bygone eras, particularly the Victorian and Edwardian periods. They often showcase romantic, elaborate floral arrangements with a nostalgic charm. Vintage patterns may incorporate elements like lace, faded backgrounds, or sepia tones to create an antique or aged effect. - Tropical Floral Patterns: As the name suggests, tropical floral patterns feature exotic flowers typically associated with lush, tropical environments. These patterns showcase vibrant, bold blooms such as hibiscus, orchids, plumerias, and bird of paradise flowers. Tropical floral patterns are known for their vivid colors, large-scale motifs, and a sense of lush abundance. - Botanical Floral Patterns: Botanical floral patterns focus not only on flowers but also on foliage, stems, and other plant elements. They often showcase a combination of flowers and leaves, providing a more holistic representation of botanical life. These patterns can range from intricate and detailed renderings to simplified, minimalist designs. - Liberty Floral Patterns: Liberty floral patterns refer to designs created by the renowned British textile company, Liberty of London. These patterns typically feature small-scale, intricate floral motifs in a signature "Liberty style." Liberty floral patterns often incorporate a mix of wildflowers and ditsy florals, characterized by delicate, small-scale blooms in a symmetrical arrangement. - Abstract Floral Patterns: Abstract floral patterns deviate from realistic depictions and explore more expressive, non-representational interpretations of flowers. These patterns employ bold shapes, vibrant colors, and imaginative compositions, resulting in a more artistic and contemporary representation of floral elements. - Scandinavian Floral Patterns: Inspired by Scandinavian design aesthetics, these patterns emphasize simplicity, clean lines, and a minimalistic approach. Scandinavian floral patterns often feature stylized floral motifs with geometric elements, combining organic and structured design elements. - Chintz Floral Patterns: Chintz floral patterns originated from Indian textiles and gained popularity in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. They are characterized by densely packed, colorful floral motifs against a solid or patterned background. Chintz patterns often incorporate vibrant, saturated colors and intricate detailing. - Modern Floral Patterns: Modern floral patterns encompass a wide range of contemporary interpretations, often featuring bold, graphic elements, asymmetry, and unconventional color combinations. These patterns break away from traditional floral representations and experiment with innovative design techniques and artistic expressions. These are just a few examples of the diverse types of floral patterns available. Each style offers its own unique visual appeal, allowing individuals to find a floral pattern that resonates with their personal taste and design preferences.

HISTORY OF FLORAL PATTERN
The history of floral patterns in human civilization is a fascinating journey that spans thousands of years and encompasses various cultures and artistic movements. Floral patterns have been used in various forms of art, including textiles, ceramics, paintings, and architecture. Let's take a brief look at the evolution of floral patterns throughout history: Ancient Civilizations: Floral motifs have been found in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, and ancient Greece. In these early cultures, floral designs were often incorporated into decorative objects, frescoes, and jewelry. They were associated with nature, fertility, and religious symbolism. Islamic Art: During the Islamic Golden Age (8th to 14th centuries), floral patterns became prominent in Islamic art and design. Islamic artists developed intricate geometric and floral motifs, known as arabesques, which adorned textiles, ceramics, and architecture. These patterns were often characterized by a combination of geometric shapes and stylized floral elements. Renaissance and Baroque Periods: In Europe, during the Renaissance and Baroque periods (14th to 18th centuries), floral patterns experienced a resurgence. Artists drew inspiration from nature and began incorporating floral designs into paintings, tapestries, and decorative arts. Flowers such as roses, tulips, and lilies were popular subjects, and floral patterns became synonymous with elegance and luxury. 18th and 19th Centuries: The 18th and 19th centuries witnessed the rise of floral patterns in fashion and interior design. Fabrics with intricate floral designs became fashionable, and floral motifs adorned clothing, upholstery, and wallpapers. This era saw the development of specific floral styles such as chintz, toile de Jouy, and William Morris' Arts and Crafts movement, which emphasized nature-inspired patterns. Art Nouveau: In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Art Nouveau movement embraced floral motifs with a new approach. Artists sought to create organic and flowing designs, often incorporating curved lines, stylized flowers, and natural elements. Artists like Alphonse Mucha and René Lalique used floral patterns extensively in their art, jewelry, and decorative objects. Modern and Contemporary Era: Floral patterns have continued to evolve and remain relevant in modern and contemporary design. From the Art Deco movement of the 1920s to the floral prints of the 1960s and 1970s, flowers have retained their appeal as a popular motif. Contemporary designers and artists continue to experiment with floral patterns, combining traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics. Today, floral patterns can be found in various forms, including textiles, wallpapers, digital designs, and even in architectural elements. They continue to symbolize beauty, nature, and the enduring appeal of the natural world in human creativity and expression.

if i had the musical terminology i'd love to do a slightly deep dive into waichiro ozaki's game ost work. he only worked on four yugioh games: forbidden memories, duelist of the roses, falsebound kingdom, and dawn of destiny, all of which are often commended for their stellar soundtracks (though i notice there's little discussion concerning dawn of destiny compared to the former 3. check out this banger of an opening).
aside from his contributions to yugioh games, he's also worked on a few metal gear solid games as well as... pro evolution soccer. though i'm not too interested in checking out his work on those games, one of his early musical contributions actually caught my eye. he worked on a ps2 jrpg called ephemeral fantasia, and while the game seems to have universally negative reviews, the soundtrack is top notch in my opinion. check out this track that mixes acoustic sounds with orchestral instruments, it's super pretty! the options menu theme for this game also feels like the basis for some of forbidden memories' tracks.

Most Popular Songs:
"Neural Pathways" - This track from their debut album captured the essence of Stellar C and Electrik Pulse's early sound, becoming an anthem in the emerging electronica scene of the late '90s.
"Digitalis" - From their second album, this song showcased FAO's pioneering Tripcore style, combining Stellar C's ethereal vocals with Electrik Pulse's intricate rhythms, gaining significant popularity on dancefloors worldwide.
"Elevating Horizons" - As the lead single from their final album, "Elevating Horizons" marked a transition to a more mature sound, reflecting the artistic growth of Stellar C and Electrik Pulse over their active years.
Highlights:
Pioneering Tripcore: Stellar C and Electrik Pulse played a crucial role in shaping and popularizing the Tripcore subgenre of electronica. Their unique blend of Stellar C's ambient textures and mesmerizing vocals with Electrik Pulse's complex rhythms and hypnotic melodies set them apart from their contemporaries.
Captivating Live Performances: FAO was renowned for their mesmerizing live performances, incorporating Stellar C's captivating stage presence and Electrik Pulse's electrifying energy. Their shows featured cutting-edge visuals and immersive light displays, leaving audiences spellbound.
Controversy - Name Change: In the early 2000s, Stellar C's decision to undergo a gender transition and publicly change her name to Lithellyl Beleth became a significant controversy within the band and among their fans. During that time, transgender awareness was not as widespread as it is today, and unfortunately, some fans were not accepting of Lithellyl's transition. The situation caused division among the band members, with Electrik Pulse being ambivalent about the change. Despite facing backlash from a portion of their fanbase, Jessica's courage in embracing her identity also garnered support from a handful of fans and progressive allies.
Ultimately, the decision to split the duo was not solely due to the name change controversy but rather the culmination of creative differences and personal growth paths. Following the split, Lithellyl continued her journey as a solo electronic artist, while Electrik Pulse pursued other music-related endeavors.
FAO's legacy lives on as pioneers of the Tripcore subgenre, and their contributions to the electronic music landscape of the late '90s and early 2000s continue to inspire new generations of electronica enthusiasts. Lithellyl's bravery in sharing her authentic self has contributed to the broader acceptance and understanding of transgender individuals within the music industry and beyond.
now the fact remains we were NEVER a HUGE hit, unlike colleagues of ours....who went on to become Shiny Toy Guns, we were known around the local scene, and that's about it, (other than the fact that I coined the term Tripcore and the creation of that subgenre) and even the "solo electronic artist" part, I've made one album that I released online around 2005, titled Tripcore Tocatta, don't bother looking it up, or the FAO albums up, they've been since lost to time, and the master recordings are rotting in a box somewhere in my basement.....I think. the music only really exists now only in my head, and I don't really have any desire to try and recreate it. the album covers I posted are just quick mockups I did of the originals using Leonardo.AI and Photoshop, last I've spoken with Eric he was an IT Project Manager at an insurance company.

@lcstkey has requested a story : ❝ your face is not a face I would forget. ❞ [Verona]
𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒅.
Tumblr media
Is that not the point , the blighted empyrean wonders , catching herself dawdling in the midst of her beloved’s words , to be … Remembered ?  To be cherished ?  To be THOUGHT OF FOR ALL ETERNITY , kept safely within the hearts of those who love you ?
For as comforting as this may seem , the revelation that Selena would sooner consider forgetting the entirety of the world than Verona , she finds no sense of consolation , only a lingering d e s p a i r .  There is , one must know , a difference between a memory and a l e g a c y left behind.  Verona’s own is founded on WAR & WRETCHEDNESS ; there is no making up for the damage she has done to Fantasia at the behest of the great darkness , Diabol ( the mantle she now serves in penance for her covetous destruction ) .  But despite it all , even when she sought to sentence herself to ISOLATION , her people began planting the seeds of f o r g i v e n e s s , and to her , have thus given the ( undeserved ) blessing : we begin anew , o’valk , we begin again … this time together.
It does not – and perhaps shall not – make sense to her.
Conflict takes root , casting a s h a d o w over gleaming countenance , dimming her everlasting radiance.  Verona takes a breath , exhales a huff of haze that swirls up in loose , silver-black ephemeral spools , tangling ‘round the horns of her broken crown.  ❝ Sometimes , ❞ She begins , pausing if only to gather courage in the gesture of brushing raven locks from the curious face of her lover , ❝ I get to thinking that I would rather … I WAS forgotten. ❞  Such a confession comes easily , almost TOO EASILY ( after all , does selena not deserve her honesty ? even at its worst ? ) , the wounds on her existence suddenly plain and obvious before again disappearing just as soon as they had been exposed , hidden away with a s m i l e as if it does not hurt her quite like the woeful glint in her eyes might imply.  ❝ But grateful I am that you’d not forget me. For I would not think to forget you , either. Though , I do hope … My memory is a g o o d one. ❞
