Renamings in the Bonefall Rewrite
So if you’re familiar with my rewrite, you’re probably aware that I try to avoid renaming warriors and creating OCs. This is because I tend to find it confusing, and I want to stick with either reworking existing characters or saving cats that unceremoniously died.
But I do have a few renamings! There tend to be four reasons why I’ll rename a warrior;
1. They had a duplicate name. I’m eliminating repeats, and the more important warrior keeps theirs. (Mudclaw WindClan > Mudclaw ShadowClan, ergo Mudclaw ShC = Mudfoot.)
2. They are being combined with another character. I want to preserve the ‘roles‘ of certain characters while eliminating redundancy, so the name will be combined so it’s easier to keep track of who was who. (Hollytuft + Larksong = Hollylark)
3. Their canon name is an ‘honor title’. Respected warriors can take new names (an “honor title”) after a great achievement, shedding their old one. Unless there’s a conflict, the FINAL name will match their CANON name. (Hoprunner = Deadfoot, Crowfoot = Crowfeather)
4. A previously dead apprentice/kit survives, OR they achieve a new title in StarClan. I’ve saved certain characters and allowed them to live long enough to get their warrior names (Marshkit = Marshwing), and additionally, I follow the Code of the Clans “Smallstar” logic and allow kits and apprentices to appear as adults in StarClan if they so choose (Petalkit, Patchkit, Larchkit = Petalstar, Patchpool, Larchface).
I’ll be updating this post as I decide on new names. I won’t be mentioning a rename in this post until it has become relevant in the rewrite though, to avoid bloat (and also so I don’t have to bang out every single CotC conflict yet, as a lot of stories are being overhauled)
Duplicate Names
Mudclaw (ShC) = Mudfoot. Mate of Lizardstripe, father of Deerfoot, Tangleburr, and Runningnose.
Applefur (TF) = Appledapple Mother of Ratscar, Snowbird. Renamed to avoid conflict with Applefur (OotS)
Flowerstem (AVoS) = Flowerscar Child of Grassheart and Stonewing. Getting an honor title to avoid conflict with Flowerstem (CotC) though she will be named after her.
Cloudberry (TC) = Cloudbelly Goosefeather’s mentor, and the medicine cat who joins ThunderClan after the death of Ravenwing during Mapleshade’s Vengeance. Renamed to avoid conflict with Cloudberry (CotC), now a Dark Forest spirit out of conscious objection to StarClan. Cloudbelly’s mentor Echosnout named both of her apprentices with the -belly suffix.
Frecklewish (SkC) = Frecklewing SkyClan’s current medicine cat. Renamed to avoid conflict with Frecklewish (MV)
Ivytail (RC) = Ivytuft. Renamed to avoid conflict with Ivytail (ShC)
The Three Milkfurs (MV, YS, WC) Mother = Milkfur Daughter = Milkbelly Holy Ghost Ancient WindClan Deputy = Milktooth
The FOUR Robinwings (TC, RC, WC, SkC) ThunderClan = Robinwing RiverClan = Robinwish WindClan = Robinflight Code of the Clans = Robinspot/Robinstar
The Three Darkstars (MV, CotC, SkC) and their Codes Mapleshade’s Vengeance = Darkstar. Being reduxed to have invented the Protecting Kittens law of the Code. Code of the Clans = Eliminated. The story behind the 3rd law of the Code (feeding elders and kits before warriors) is being completely redone. SkyClan = Dalestar. Creator of the 13th law, to never question your leader
Combined Characters
Larksong + Hollytuft = Hollylark Plus a ton of family tree fixes; Hollylark becomes the mate of Sparkpelt and was the grandson of Firestar through Lionblaze.
Ashfur (ShC) + Ashheart = Ashheart More of a fix than a combination. Ashfur is completely unconnected to any other cats (no parents, no children) and Ashheart is closer in age to be Yellowfang’s ‘old friend‘ anyway.
Scorchbreeze + Raggedstar = Raggedpelt is an honor title. No need for Ragged to have a brother. Scorchbreeze was his name before Raggedpelt became deputy, named after the many well-earned scars on his pelt.
Thornclaw + Spiderleg = Spiderthorn Frostfur’s kits are too prevalent and prevented other characters from developing. Spiderleg will be mentored by Thornclaw, and take on his role as an argumentative traditionalist after Thornclaw’s death in the Great Battle.
Honor Titles
Raggedstar, Darkstar, and Flowerstem (AVoS) were previously mentioned; see above.
Deadfoot = Hoprunner Earns an honor title after inventing a battle move called “Deadfooting“ which involves clubbing an enemy with a raised paw.
Crookedjaw = Stormpaw, Stormkit Spent months away from the clan at the barn, developing unique hunting and fighting techniques. His warrior name is an honor title to acknowledge this impressive feat, ergo he was never cruelly renamed as a child.
Crowfeather = Crowfoot Was a warrior on the great journey, fixing the timeline discrepancy where Deadfoot would have been dead before he was conceived. He hated his old name because BOTH of his parents were -foot named; requesting the honor title in memorial for Feathertail.
Ratscar = Meltpelt Literally buried in angry rats at the carrionplace, surviving the worst infection ShadowClan had ever seen.
Clawface = Daylight Renamed by Brokenstar after a very bloody battle with WindClan. Clawface always thought his old name was too soft, reminding him of his weak brother Nightpelt.
Survival Names + StarClan names
Marshkit = Marshwing The Tallpoppy kit saved by Brackenfur during the Great Journey, survives to adulthood, mentors Tigerheart.
Smokepaw = Smokefall The ShadowClan apprentice who fell during the Great Journey, surviving because of the Tribecats being better guides. (This character is also being merged with Smokefoot, whose name was a writer oversight.)
Talonpaw = Talonclaw Rowanclaw’s apprentice in TNP who died to the vicious kittypets, surviving because of Smokefall being around to save him.
Elderkit = Elderberry
Fixing some age gap problems by making Ashfur younger than Ferncloud, but preserving apprenticeship situations and giving myself more ‘bodies‘ to work with in TNP by saving one of Ferncloud’s other littermates.
Perchpaw = Perchshine Leaves RiverClan for the barn following Mapleshade’s Vengeance, but Darkstar honorably bestows a warrior name on him before he departs.
Mapleshade’s Litter Petalkit = Petalstar Larchkit = Larchface Patchkit = Patchpool
Mosskit = Mosslight
Shrewpaw = Shrewface

A polite little heads up for my lovely, diverse followers...
With December approaching, I thought it would be best to let my followers (particularly the new ones - welcome!) know beforehand that I do reblog Xmas posts on this blog. Not in the religious sense, but for the aesthetics. I don't wish to make anyone feel uncomfortable, excluded, or indoctrinated (I'm not religious btw) in any way. I will do my best to tag relevant posts for those who want to avoid such things. If I miss any, please forgive me or politely inform me so that I can correct any mistakes (ADHD means that I occasionally have Swiss cheese for a brain🧀).
Likewise, if you would like to see other holiday aesthetics included in this blog, feel free to let me know! My Asks are turned back on to receive your suggestions, and I welcome posts being sent my way. If I haven't posted much of what you might be looking for, chances are I simply haven't come across it often enough on my dash.
The whole point of this blog is about invoking a sense of comfort and natural joy in the world. Holidays spent with our families, loved ones, and communities can be one of the purest moments of love, wonder, and delight. I hope to encourage those feelings, and that this humble little blog can bring a spark of happiness to someone, if not everyone who follows.
To those who don't care for or about the holidays, or maybe want a break from the seasonal deluge, you won't be forgotten either! I'll still continue to post the usual content interspersed throughout. I'm trying to return to tagging these posts more consistently again, and hopefully that should help out a bit more.
May your December be joyous and comforting!
Stay warm! 🧣☕❄(Northern hemisphere)
Stay cool! 🕶🍹🧊(Southern hemisphere)

The Name of the Wind Covers Ranked
So, like many of you, I knew of 5 covers off the top of my head, so I thought I would rank them, cause I have clear favorites. Turns out, there are WAY MORE!!!! (which is silly that I forgot that, obvs all the different countries have v different countries)
10. I think this is the first edition and wow. . .I mean, it’s relevant. the artist clearly read the book, so I can respect that. He has red hair, he has a lute, the wind is blowing. But like, this style does not do it for me. Maybe he’s shirtless cause like, the shirt he’s wearing is falling apart? And he only has one extra, cause you know. It’s very dramtic, which I suppose is fitting of the story. But like, the style is so dark and dusty and it just looks awkward. But hey, they tried, you know.
1/10 covers
Tumblr media
9. Here again, we see some effort. I mean, here are leaves being blown in the wind, so it’s at least a little relevant. But the color scheme is terrible, you can barely see anything on the cover!!! The font is also pretty cool. But what does that face have to do with anything??? Is it one of the Chandrian? idk guys.
2/10 covers
Tumblr media
8. This is just so . . .generic??? The color scheme is nice, I love a good purple, but I don’t feel like anyone tried. And what is that . . .statue??? It does not feel relevant at all. (btw this is the Portugal cover)
2.5/10 covers
Tumblr media
7. When they released the cover, I was excited. And then I saw it. It’s not bad, but I didn’t love it. It’s very abstract, which I appreciate. And the color scheme was interesting. And there’s wind and a broken lute, so it’s totally relevant. It’s more personal taste than anything, but I’m not here for it.
4/10 covers
Tumblr media
6. Okay, so now we are officially switching over to the covers I like. This art style reminds me just a tad of my sister’s, so I like it a little bit more. I also love that Kvothe’s hair is a shock of red, floating around in the grey cover. It’s too long and the wrong style, but he looks young and the color scheme totally works for me. Also, yay, there is also clearly wind on the cover as well!!! The torn shirt is a little much, but you can’t really see it, so it’s still fine for me. (This is also the first Japanese edition.)
6/10 covers
Tumblr media
5. I love this cover, I do. It makes my heart warm. But let’s be critical here: What does anything on the cover have to do with the story itself? There’s a cloaked figure, which I suppose could be Kvothe or Taborlin or anyone for that matter, but like, it’s very ambiguous. And the tree??? It’s not even a willow tree. Maybe it’s a reference to the broken tree, with one of his names? Maedre, right? So I love it but I cannot give it full credit. Great color scheme though. Truly, I love it. (This is one of the American versions, but it was not one of the first ones) (it’s the version I have XD)
7/10 covers
Tumblr media
4. Again, with the trees and the cloaked figure. Not super relevant. Pretty generic. However, I always love when the title gets to become part of the art and how the cover is framed, and how it looks like one of the mysterious paths in the stories Kvothe loves hearing and telling so much. So thematically, it totally lines up. (This is the UK version) (My WMF copy is this same style XD)
8/10 covers
Tumblr media
3. Half the reason these are up so high is because there is so MUCH on these three covers!!! It has an unfair advantage, but man, they are so fun!!! And Denna is on one of the covers??? Iconic. Kvothe has his lute in one, the wind is blowing in another, he has a book in the last, all of which are incredibly important parts of the book. Also the style is almost manga, which I love and is very different than the others. Unfortunately, these do not double as a make shift weapon in a fight. (these are the second Japanese editions).
8.5/10 covers
Tumblr media
2. I didn’t plan these out very well, but the more I look at this, the more I loved it, so it managed to squeak its way up the ranks. I love, love the color scheme. It feels dusty and like it belongs on a fairy tale retelling. The wind blowing a cloak, a green cloak, which he has in the books. His hair even looks red. I’m not sure why he has a bow in one hand, that’s never been Kvothe’s weapon of choice, but the whole scene feels like a missing part of the story. It feels oddly peaceful, but ominous, almost like the calm before the storm. So of course, it really fits the series. And the title font!!! So beautiful!!! (this is the Finnish version)
9/10 covers.
Tumblr media
1. Again, I intended, before I started this post that my number 5 pick would be my number one. And then I looked at all the covers and started writing about them and I just . . . it just fit so well. The color scheme. . .wow. The lute as one of the focal points. The wind blowing everything around. The walking stick???? The title font with that freaking gorgeous “o”. Ugh. Like, I cannot get over this cover. It’s so perfect!!! *sigh*
Tumblr media
Which versions are your favorites? Least favorites? Which ones do you own? Which ones do you want to own?
(also, yes, I know I left out versions, I can only include so many pictures in one post) (so feel free to reblog with a personal favorite or least favorite!!)

Snippet and a question
Wow, the writeblr community is grand! Thank you all so much for your kind responses and welcomes to my intro post! <3
I thought I’d post up here part of the opening to Sauvarin, since a handful of people seemed to like the idea of it, it will be below the cut as it’s 700ish words. It was originally a prologue but I keep hearing whispers about how prologues should be burnt at the stake (?) Eh. For those interested, feel free for a read ^_ ^
The question is of a particular portion of text and its aimed at those who are trans / part of the community (if you’re happy to answer, of course, no pressure!)
I have a FTM character in Sauvarin, and I’m cautious of getting some wording right.
Context: Max Arisan is the Patron of Sauvarin, is FTM but still has breasts. This is mentioned only once in text as a “this is who this guy is but it isn’t relevant to his character arc, just want y’all to be sure you know” kinda thing. My question is really about just the wording of the part in bold is it... accurate? Reflective? Not offensive?* I know “preferred” isn’t right, but is “correct”? Is there a better word to use?
If it is completely wrong please let me know so I can fix it! I have been doing what research I can but I am coming at it from a somewhat... abstract angle, and I want it to sound natural in the text, rather than like some clinical case-study.
--
[...] He began, leaning back on the edge of his desk and it was only now Isaura registered what she had been seeing: Max had breasts.
‘Yes, it was quite uneventful, surprisingly. Just me, Bartrum, and miles and miles of forest.’ Isaura kept her eyes trained on his face at such an unusual turn of events; surgeries and hormone replacements were so efficient and effective the average person could be living fully as their correct gender inside very few months. Something major must have happened to disrupt the process so significantly. Or perhaps he was just more comfortable this way; it was hardly her place to question it.
--
Thank you so much for taking the time to read!
@writeblrfantasy @magic-is-something-we-create @linariouswrites @furryarbiterangel @wildswrites @inky-duchess
* I am aware of the whole “stay in your lane” discourse thing about people/characters but the only convincing reason I could think of for him to not be trans is that I’m not trans myself. BUT since his character isn’t about him “being trans” he’s just a character who is trans and also x, y, z, I didn’t see it as a good enough reason not to include ??
Second half of the intro, (1300 words total lol and it seemed too much to post here). So, the only context you’re missing is: Bartrum is a horse; they’re very close to the town but haven’t go there yet, and the opening to the opening is just Isaura [protag] listening to an old guy talk about space [less boring than it sounds but not really anything happens happens, so...] Oh! And they’re deep in the taiga, far east of what was known as Siberia.
Hope you like it! Anyone interested in a character run down, btw?
--
The approaching rumble of cars had Isaura hop off and hurry to pull him up the short, steep bank out of the way. Bartrum, clearly unimpressed with their stop-start travel, remained stubbornly still until the screech of tyres on gravel spooked him. He squealed his fear, kicking hooves had her recoil and his thundering body knocked her into a nearby bush as he bolted into the woods. Isaura scrambled to her feet, anger drowning out pain as she barked at the nearest car, ‘Oi! Watch it!’
It hesitated for the briefest of moments; the driver’s face ducked low to stare at Isaura out from the passenger window. His look was pointed, cold and selfish as they locked upon her; inspecting, demanding, reducing, memorising. As if assigned her to some imaginary end of his own devising. The kind of look that can raise hairs from a hundred paces. They stared at each other for a few long seconds, Isaura’s guard instantly high as she steeled herself against the encroachment. The driver cocked his head slightly, listening to some instruction or other from a passenger, fixed his eyes on the road and accelerated away. The following car kept up with the first, no one so much as casting a glance her way. Isaura swept her dripping hair from her face and turned to chase after the horse, finally realising what was wrong with the convoy: the cars had drivers. Hadn’t she been told that travel to Sauvarin by way of a car wasn’t an option?
‘Bartrum!’ She called out, following the trail of destruction through the underbrush, ‘Bar-Bar! Where’ve you gone?’ The rain fell thickly and only the Bartrum-sized hole left her any clue to his direction. At least she saw no sign her baggage had fallen. ‘Bar-Bar! C’mon, you stupid horse, where the hell are you—’ She found herself upon a sudden clearing, barely a few feet in diameter, not one branch dared encroach.
The skull was a stark white against the intense green grass which grew with a flourish around it and through it, as though it had been sat in a fallowed field through an even-tempered summer; blades had woven their way through the few remaining teeth. Enormous helical, branching horns sat firm against the skull. From each pitch-dark eye socket grew the trunks of a pine, the two stems twisted and curved around the top of the skull before finding their way back to each other only to separate yet again into two branching bronchioles of needle clusters, each just a little shy of the other. They seemed to weave through and around the existing horns, as if aware of them; the tree itself looked ancient and weathered, barely a meter or so in height. From its nostrils poked tiny, delicate flowers of pink and yellow and blue.
Isaura stared, transfixed by the scene, for a silent eternity before something pulled her from her revere and she backtracked, giving the small clearing a wide berth. No animal Isaura had ever heard of grew horns like those. She felt its presence loom at her back but focused on following Bartrum’s trail, which ended abruptly on an overgrown road. It had once been paved, but was criss-crossed with cracks and fractures, now home only to weeds, moss, and grass. Bartrum, only a few paces away, stood stock still staring up the abandoned track, his ears pricked and his body tense.
‘Bar-Bar, there you are!’ She approached him slowly, careful not to spook him further; the sign up ahead drew her attention: Sauvarin Mine. It had clearly once stood proud above the road, but its background had faded and the formerly sharp lines of contrast were blurred almost beyond recognition. It was barely held aloft leaning as it did on a tree branch, its left post long destroyed. A guilty testament for the human proclivity to create and then abandon. ‘Well, I guess this means we’re in the right place, eh, Bartrum?’ She spoke to the horse, gently stroking his neck — he still hadn’t moved, not even a blink. ‘And here I’d been hoping it was because of the mine that I’d been offered this place, but what good is a blacksmith without metal?’ Bartrum’s ear finally twitched, she took hold of his reigns, clicked her tongue a few times, he at last turned around to let her lead him down the broken track to the main road. The rain slowed to a drizzle as Isaura glanced over her shoulder back up at the neglected sign, where it slouched in the small break of trees, like a lonely stranger who’d offer their secrets only to those with the confidence to ask.

shadowhunters s1 is terrble, how to make it better, one thing that deserves more attention, MY opinion & perspective
This is a LOOOOOONG post.
I only watched shadowhunters months ago and now I’m rewatching it (don’t ask me why). I shall say s1 story is just terrible. The writers ruined Clary’s character and got Jace’s motives so wrong (and that’s what made him “an ass”). The build-up of Clace is not convincing. Parabatais fought each other for superficial reasons. People’s different views towards the Clave should have served the plot better. I blame show writers 100% for these. They missed the point, and made what they cared about the most—romantic relationships, go in the wrong direction.
Upon finishing this post I find it to be Jace centric, so no tags for other characters. In case you’re reading, hope you can understand my English :p
Notice that all potential criticism here is meant to be directed at writers. You may consider quitting reading if this post makes you feel uncomfortable. But don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate any of the characters.
Hate is such a strong word for me to use. I do hate the Clave tho
I don’t want to spend too much time on Clary. I’ll just put it like this: after losing her mom, she has the right to feel shocked, scared, lost and helpless. She can sit down and cry, she can ask for others’ help. She was supposed to be traumatized, but I don’t see that. The script made her someone selfish, impulsive and thinks she knew better than anyone around her although she had become a shadowhunter only for days. Others were offering free help but she didn’t show gratitude and was always like “I have to find my mom I don’t care this I don’t care that I only care about my mom you must help me with this you have to listen to me blah blah blah.” To me it looks like an everyday style, so I can’t take her misfortune seriously. And, for so many times, I see no consistency in her emotions. One example is her kiss with Jace before she set out for Simon in ep09. She was worried about Simon, but all of a sudden she became all flirtatious and was kissing and talking about “us” with Jace. Maybe “a kiss from your lover makes you strong”, but no, I can’t see that in that scene. I just can’t.
And writers forced this Clace thing on me. No hate, I’m not interested in romantic relationships, I accept them as canons, although I don’t see why. Sometimes I can appreciate ones that are well-depicted, but unfortunately Clace isn’t a good one to me. not in s1. When I got to s03e22 for the first time however, I remember I was genuinely pissed when seeing that Clary had to lose her memory of the shadow world. I mean they love each other so much why can’t writers just let them be happy
Next it’s Jace, the Clave, Alec, etc. It’s mainly Jace, to be honest.
a common remark on Jace:
“JACE IS AN ASS. HE CHOSE CLARY OVER THE OTHERS TREAT ALEC LIKE AN LAPDOG PUT IZZY’S LIFE IN DANGER AND RUINED THE NAME OF THE LIGHTWOODS OH HE ISN’T A LIGHTWOOD AFTERALL“
The script is such a mess, but I really can’t deny that he chose Clary over anyone else and mistreated Alec. I love you buddy, but you could have done better. If only the writers had put less emphasis on his feelings for Clary, he shouldn’t have been that annoying. But all this “he put Izzy’s life in danger and ruined the name of the Lightwoods” thing is just the script being way too misleading. Will talk about these ones by one.
For s1 it’s basically the Clave, who represent the interests of the majority of shadowhunters, fought the Circle/Valentine. But on the Clave’s side, people hold different views. Alec was the type of person who played by the book and paid his unconditional loyalty to the Clave (they don’t deserve it btw) to the point that he lost his judgment. I can’t blame him since he’s the eldest son of the Lightwoods the royal family, he had to sacrifice himself for his family and the authority. Jace, on the other hand, didn’t have such a burden. He would fight the Circle, but he NEVER trusted the Clave. However, the reason why he fought the Circle seemed to be and only be his feelings for Clary. Well, he could have had better reasons.
I thought you knew it, writers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But you didn’t.
In the books I remember Jace was convinced that Michael Wayland was murdered by two circle members, this made a desire for revenge reasonable. But in the show, they put things vaguely at the beginning. Watching ep02 alone, I don’t know if /Michael died in a revolt as a circle member and Jace accepted it as some sort of sacrifice/ or /Michael died in a revolt of the Circle as an innocent shadowhunter/. It was not until ep10 did Jace say “Valentine killed you” and Michael was confirmed a circle member. So it’s neither the case, Michael was a circle member and Jace believed Valentine killed him, that’s still a good reason for revenge. But wouldn’t it be better if they made it clear from the start and let it be Jace’s primary motive, instead of telling us how he was willing to do everything for a girl he had just met? He felt for Clary, wanted to protect her, help her, fight the Circle/Valentine for her AND himself (Don’t tell me losing a dear parent is something trivial). If the writers did this, Jace’s failure to kill Valentine in ep11 would also be more understandable (I’m not going to elaborate on it). Revenge > empathy/love at first sight is a more appropriate way to address Jace’s motive. He could have been a protagonist who fights the villain + avenges the death of his father + protects the one he loves. But the writers made him an arrogant ass who was blinded by his feelings for Clary.
Also I have to mention the famous line in the books “to love is to destroy” here. In s1 it’s nowhere to be found, writers used “emotions cloud judgment” as a substitution. They brought it back in s2, which I think would have been better if they introduced it in s1. The falcon story is supposed to be a painful lesson Valentine taught Jace that shaped his worldview, Jace is supposed to be confused about love, there should have been an inner struggle. He couldn’t have fallen in love so easily, not to say being all noisy about it. s1 botched that concept.
How the writers vaguely dealt with Michael Wayland’s cause of death:
Tumblr media
Is he even talking about Michael here? I thought the revolt is the Uprising? It should be. But Michael died ten years ago, the Uprising was like, 20 years ago? or maybe he just didn’t want to talk about details? I have no idea.
How they made Clary the only reason Jace stole the Cup:
Tumblr media
I have no words.
Alec was with the Clave, Jace was not and had never been. This is mentioned, but not stressed enough. They weren’t on the same side from the start. I can’t deny that “Clary risked everything to find it”, but using it as an excuse to betray your brother is just lame. Letting Clary hand over the Cup to the Clave is still a valid request tho, since Meliorn said Clary had the Cup. But Jace didn’t really need to distract Alec with her here, he could have used “we” instead of “she”.
Despite that he did’t trust the Clave, strangely, he was somewhat loyal to the Accords. He wouldn’t let the Clave imprison Meliorn for no reason and rescued him from Alec’s hands. He never wanted to hurt downworlders, not until Imogen made him head of the institute in s2 where he blindly followed his only relative Grandmother for a short period. Notice that this had nothing to do with him stealing the Cup. I don't think these two things happening at the same time are related. He could rescue Meliorn without stealing the Cup. Talk more about Jace’s view about the Clave, will you, writers? He’d rather die than hand over the Soul Sword to them in s2, how much do you think he despises them?
The Clave themselves had the intention of break the Accords lol what kind of regime is this. They were just so useless and hypocritical. In ep08 they didn’t even care about what Valentine was doing but only believed that the institute was at risk, so they blame the Lightwoods... I just can’t bear with the fact that such a regime was still in power.
This is when the Clave decided to imprison Meliorn and shadowhunters were taking different sides:
Tumblr media
Then the Clave arrested Izzy because she had THE relationship with Meliorn, which made her the suspect. But do you remember what the Clave’s real motive was? They wanted the Cup. Arresting Izzy was extortion. Jace had no choice but hand over the Cup to the Clave. He did so.
I mean, before Jace stole the Cup, who knew the Clave would do that to Izzy? And what did Izzy thought of the situation? SHE WANTED TO PRESERVE THE ACCORDS AND SAVE MELIORN. Not relevant, but Izzy and Jace were both on scene trying to persuade Alec and Lydia. Alec was on the Clave’s side, he had no choice. But he blamed Jace for risking Izzy’s life was totally uncalled for. Just because a character is annoying doesn’t mean that whatever he does is wrong or the character who opposes him is always right. In fact, you trust or distrust someone is not something right or wrong. The writers made Alec think that Jace risked Izzy’s life to stole the Cup is the most ridiculous thing I can think of in s1. Why was everyone so blinded?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just, fuck the Clave first, then fight the Circle.
And Mr. and Mrs. Lightwood used to be members of the Circle. They betrayed the Circle prior to the Uprising so the Clave absolved them. When the Circle made a comeback, however, they were again a pain in the Clave’s ass. If anyone ever ruined the name of the Lightwoods, it starts with Robert and Maryse. The Clave was just finding excuses to trap them.
I would say different positions people take in s1 worths more attention. But writers just keep distracting viewers with the unbearable love of Clace.
Also the parabatai fight. They fought because of a girl, which doesn’t make any sense to me. I thought it was clear that they were’t on the same side and that should be the main reason, but writers kept inserting “Clary” here and there. Clary was important to Jace, but Alec didn’t seem to be in s1, that’s the problem. How can viewers like a character who treated his brother terribly while putting his heart into a girl he knew only for days? I mean who doesn’t have “selfish” moments at some point, but if you go too far it’s a problem.
Actually, I think writers had 1 moment of excellence:
Tumblr media
Yet in the fighting scene, parabatais were talking about Clary. Alec blamed Clary, and Jace wasn’t happy about it, so he pointed out that Alec used political marriage to cover his “true feelings”... really Jace? really Alec? is that what you think? You don’t have better reasons?
Their reconciliation is also rushed. AND THEY WERE STILL TALKING ABOUT CLARY FFS. For one brief moment, writers made Jace aware that he and Alec fight because they took different positions, but they never do the same to Alec. Alec always believed that Jace was simply risking everyone everything for Clary, from ep01 to ep11. All I could see is that he didn’t even know why they were fighting. They didn’t really talk things out. I don’t know how Alec just accepted Jace’s apology and everything went back to normal. What is “what I thought is right”? Writers never bother explaining it.
By far that’s all I can think of.  In conclusion,
Jace could fall in love, but love shouldn’t have been his only reason for everything. Because first impression is too important, no matter how much you reveal his dark past and make him suffer in s2s3, it will be hard for viewers to acknowledge his struggles, making it even harder for him to be a generally liked character.
some irrelevant opinions
Personally I think s1 is absolutely the worst of all 3 seasons. it focused toooo much on romance, and the main couple wasn’t that likable. I heard a LOT of viewers here on Chinese online communities said they didn’t even finish s1 because they thought shadowhunters was a badly-written Mary Sue love story lol and they only watch Malec cuts. lolololol

I still have about 200 queued posts (bear with me... and sorry followers on mobile), but I want to quickly publish some of my post-binging thoughts before the new episode comes out. (Because I get overwhelmed by other people’s opinions and can’t remember what my own were unless I write them down. It’s easy to recall which parts I simply loved for what they are because other people did too and I can reblog their posts; it’s harder to not forget my own perspective outside of that.)
I didn’t actually expect to post these opinions because I don’t feel comfortable criticizing TAZ the way I tear apart big franchises like ME. But I did write it down, so what the hell. Let’s start with the biggest piece of negativity then. I can't name a favourite arc but I think the last place is Petals to the Metal. The racing sequence was spectacular enough that I didn't mind the pacing that much, but the final episode was really disappointing. A combination of not actually explicitly confirming the pairing in canon (I seriously expected that would be the culmination of the arc) AND Bury Your Gays (yes, I know Griffin dealt with the feedback gracefully, that doesn't fix the actual story though) AND some extreme railroading AND deus ex machina/Power of Love (at least the latter was retconnet as in not retroactive continuity but retroactive context). That actually put me off the show for some time. I think this moment encapsulates my problems with Hurley's writing pretty well. She really comes off as a Mary Sue written by a self-aware male writer who feels the need to put female characters on a pedestal -- certainly not the most objectionable phenomenon, but still makes my eyes roll. I feel the same about Carey and Killian in The Crystal Kingdom and the recurring remarks about "competent women". (I mean, I understand the gameplay reason for that, it's not that I'm asking for super detailed fights between NPCs, but I didn't like the way it sounded in the story.) Thankfully Carey got some development with Magnus, Killian had a good introduction before that glorification thing started cropping up, and their relationship's good obviously; plus, thankfully, Lucretia is completely free from this (she actually might be my fave NPC in terms of writing).
I think my least favourite part of The Suffering Game is the final past bosses battle? It's not just repetitive -- this repetition, needless in this case, devalues the other instances of our heroes facing the past. The first big one was Noelle (great: surprising, touching, important for the overall plot as we now know), then we had the three robots (I was pretty delighted to see Jenkins and Magic Brian again) even it was more about combat than meaningful facing of past mistakes, then the destruction of Phandolin was seen again in The Eleventh Hour, and only a bit later the setting of the first arc will be revisited once more. So even not counting this scene, it was starting to get a bit navel-gazey, and the complete lack of story relevance of that battle diluted things even more. It kind of sounded like running out of ideas -- I'd prefer any other challenge or just a repeat of the random monster generation. (Btw I totally expected to see the crab from Rockport Limited in that lineup. It's kind of special to me because back I went "Ah a floating crab, yeah feel you boys, I hate fighting Praetorians too, at least this thing doesn't shoot lase--" and then it started shooting fire, lol.)
Back to what I wanted to talk about: I have lots of thoughts/feelings about consequences re: the last episodes. The spoilers I've seen gave me so much anxiety! Like I've read that Magnus loses memory so I completely expected him to lose everything. So I spent a lot of time in complete dread, and when I read "Magnus forgets" in the summary my heart dropped, and then it wasn't that bad at all so I thought "that's it?" and felt relieved until the fucking clone tank. At which point I thought "No, this is it" especially because all of the players interpreted it that way. So I was very surprised and relieved that he kept everything, and that Griffin was so kind to him. But that kinda brought me to another problem -- that the new body undid Magnus's sacrifices. He didn't lose a finger or 10 years of life; the only loss was the identity of his nemesis which a) is a sad thing and he might be happier without it -- I would; and b) the boys promised to take care of that. Meanwhile, Taako and especially Merle have to live with their sacrifices. That's unfair. I was pretty thrilled when I realized the sacrifices were For Real, and was feeling real dread and anxiety about them (can't say if in a wholly good way) and I don't like devaluing that. Though of course I'm pretty jazzed that the character who is at the moment my favourite got treated so well. That scene was cathartic as hell! But back to the sacrifices: I'm intrigued by the problem of balance of hurting the character in a way that's good for narrative and/or game balance (yeah the intent of "let's nerf them a bit" was easy to see) but not compromising them as a piece of writing. I didn't give a shit about max health or dexterity penalties, but the story significant things about losing body parts and especially memories sounded brutal and cruel to me. I actually laughed when during one of the commercial breaks Griffin said something like "I hope this isn't causing you too much anxiety" because I was rushing through this arc because of that anxiety! But in the end, as it often happens, the half-misinterpreted spoilers made everything sound worse than it actually was. And I was very glad and relieved to hear Griffin specifically clarify that he's not going to take away important parts of a character.
But despite what I just said, when I started The Suffering Game arc I was actually amazed because it was second arc in a row built around my personal favorite tropes! I really appreciate Doctor Who-ish journey through genres (that doesn't take itself seriously but also has an epic underlying plot. All my fandoms are the same...) Murder on the Rockport Limited also counts in that category. So if I had to pick a favorite, they'd probably be among the candidates? Well I don't know how to count Reunion Tour for that. I really liked The Eleventh Hour, time travel/time loop stories are like my #1 fave. And it's a closed room mystery too (like Rockport Limited). That was the point where I started listening much faster because I needed to learn the truth. (Also, the Lunar Interlude before that arc, with the three separate stories, was freaking revolutionary and started a new level of character development for the show in general.) But I was kind of disappointed by the lack of a Holmes speech-type explanation of everything in the end. Because a big part of enjoyment was the expectation that it'll all click together beautifully in the end -- and some pieces still didn't fit. I'm still not sure if I missed something or that wasn't explained. Why was Isaak, like our heroes and unlike everyone else in the town, aware of the temporal loops and free to act? What was the interaction between Taako's spell and the code word -- did the spell have any effect other than almost drowning everyone, would "Junebug" have worked by itself? I had some more questions I thing, but right when I was going to pause/think/rest, everything was swept away by the freaking Red Robe Magnus cliffhanger, so I continued to run forward internally screaming "Explain! Explain!" like a Dalek, and then that was joined by the aforementioned Suffering Game anxiety. And that's the story how I marathoned the last part of the show three or more times faster than I planned to.
I really loved listening to TTAZZ, both of them, it was really good meta! I think I started to appreciate the show more after the first one. I can see where the fan criticism re: representation is coming from, but I myself also belong to the category of people who can never visualise their own (or anyone's, really) characters and therefore really love the freedom of interpretation. I'm also a bit sad about the commentary on racism in the new one, which, in addition to the comments about the Taco Quest in the first one, made me pretty sure that storyline/running joke is not coming back. I found it really funny back then in the beginning of the show -- more so because I, myself, have no freaking idea what tacos are actually like. I mean, we might have some mexican food places over here, but I've never been to one. And I intentionally didn't look it up after starting the show because it was funnier and kind of immersive this way lol. But they sound pretty committed to non-committance about the enthnicities, and raising the topic in canon again would force the issue, so I think they're just quietly abandoning it. Story-wise, I'd love to hear something like "Taako had invented a dish and named it after himself, but the voidfish baby ate the recipe so he couldn't recreate it until now" because I'm a sucker for justifying jokes and tying them into the main plot/emotional storyline. But in general I'd prefer any option that offends people the least. I was kind of surprised when Justin talked about abandoning Taako's early "dumb" characterisation, because I hadn't actually thought it was "officially" thrown away. I assumed Taako was just really bad at paying attention, and got better at managing that as a part of organic character development. I actually found that kind of relatable, plus "absent-minded professor/wizard" is a classic trope. Also TTAZZ made me wish even harder for the lost awesome adventure of Magnus and Kravitz in the astral plane. And it was already slightly souring my excitement about the totally awesome & touching scene we got instead.
I didn't really get the exposition about the planes in The Crystal Kingdom, and the long explanation in the latest two episodes require more attention than I gave them. Hope today's episode will make things clearer. Some things I hope to hear explained soon:
Why has Merle died more times than Magnus or Taako?
Also, looking forward to the promised explanation of how Gundren can be Merle's blood relative lol
Why was the Chalice so much more self-aware and civil than the other Relics? Is it related to the fact that its creator has some special connection to the (a?) voidfish?
Was Magnus a wizard before? Being a lich, creating a Grand Relic... If so, why doesn't he have magic now?
If Magnus is a lich, can he one day die and stay in the astral plane with Julia like an ordinary human, like he wanted? If not, that's a pretty big and tragic turn of events for him. (Granted, this might be more of a D&D mechanics question...)
(I actually just found a Reddit thread starting with the same question, discussing whether all 7 are really liches or not, so these two points might not be even valid haha)
(I also saw someone theorize that Lup invented the taco recipe -- and damn I really do want to see that now. Imagine trying to figure out something and later realize that it was created by your dead sister who named that thing after you.)
(I was confused about LichBarry’s reveal because I thought at the end of PTTM he was mind-controlling Captain Captain Bane to poison THB. Someone had the same question and another person answered that Barry’s spell was only to make Captain drink the poison, and the murder attempt was on him. I totally didn’t get that. Between this and my question about “Junebug”, either mind-control spells are not very clearly explained in this show, I suck at understanding them, or both.)
(Shit, this list has transformed from future episodes wishlist into reactions to Reddit lol)
Since I was talking about Taako and Lup, here’s another passing thought: remember how Taako immediately wanted to be Like Them when he saw the lich duo? You know, the elven brother and sister?!
Not related to anything, but I just realized I can wear jeans as a stealth fandom reference and it's delightful :D

TGF Thoughts-- 1x02: First Week
Thoughts on 1x02 under the cut!
(I did it! I recapped two episodes in one week!)
First Week takes advantage of its ability to swear from the very start: “Bitch. Fucking bitch. I know where you live,” a man says angrily. This delightful (by which I mean vile) message is on Maia’s personal cell phone. She’s listening in the elevator on the way to work, and it’s evident, watching her reactions, that this is getting to her. Phone Twitter Egg #1 then promises to rape both Maia and Amy (though he doesn’t refer to Amy by name, instead choosing to use a slur). Maia moves on to the next message, which starts off well enough: “Hi. Good morning.” Maia relaxes for a split second, before Phone Twitter Egg #2 spits, “fuck you.” Maia tenses again, then scrolls through her voicemail. It’s full of unknown numbers leaving multiple messages a minute, presumably all like the two we’ve heard.
This opening makes me appreciate that TGF is on All Access. The writers don’t have to dance around the language that most directly and concisely makes their point, and they don’t have to sub in words (think about how the TGW characters always had to say “banging” when you could totally tell they wanted to say “fucking”). Do we need to hear this abusive language to understand what’s going on? No. But there’s something about how explicit it is—and I mean explicit both in the sense of “clear” and the sense of “R-rated”--  that shows exactly what Maia’s up against.
On a different note, is Reddick/Boseman supposed to be literal LGjhahagkjashfl? They didn’t even try to make the elevator look different.
Maia tells the receptionist it’s her first day and she’s not sure where to go. The receptionist holds up a finger, telling her to wait, so she looks at a stack of copies of the Cook County Vindicator instead. I wonder when this insert was filmed, because there’s a headline that says “TRUMP POLICIES FACE PUSHBACK FROM CIVIL RIGHTS GROUPS.” It begins “Less than two months after being sworn in […] Trump is facing the fiercest opposition to the implementation of his new his immigration policies...” I’m pretty sure, since it says less than two months and this happened in reality less than one month in, this wasn’t added in later. I mean, it’s a predictable headline, but, uhhhhh.
The part of the paper relevant to this ep is a small story barely above the fold about the Rindell scheme.
Omg, wait, there’s a shot of Maia with the paper and it is formatted differently. The headline is still the same, but I don’t know about the body of the story. So something definitely happened here.
Anyway, Maia’s not able to read the rest of the article because someone’s ready for her: Julius Cain, who is no longer at LG’s New York Office.
Julius informs Maia that they have 55 associates and 40 workstations, so you just sit down at whatever desk is free and can’t keep anything with you there. Oh man, I would hate that so much. They’re really small desks, too.
Maia has her first assignment already, too. She’s going to the SWSMU offices at 10. It’s a union they represent, and they have to do pro-bono work for them for appearances, essentially.
First days of work are difficult enough without unknown numbers threatening to cut your tits off. I feel terrible for Maia. (I love the little flashes of anger on Maia’s face as she reads/listens to these words.)
While Maia’s trying to harden herself against harassment, Diane is staring off into space in the parking lot as she gets more disappointing news: Lockhart/Deckler is withholding her capital contribution, so the only money she has for the buy-in at Reddick/Boseman is the money she’d get if she sold her department. And she’s not willing to do that. So maybe, her accountant suggests, her new partners will offer her a loan.
Diane looks at Barbara, who’s exiting her car at that exact moment. Diane knows exactly how that conversation would go.
Next, Lucca arrives at work. She exits the elevator, nods at a colleague (she’s been here for months), and finds Julius in her office. She’s being moved from her office to make room for Diane. Her new office is right near the men’s bathroom… and the bathroom door opens straight into the (glass, of course it’s glass, did you think for a minute they’d give that up?) wall of her office. This is going to be a recurring gag like Eli’s tiny office, isn’t it?
Lucca also has to go to the SWSMU. She complains that she did it last month, but Julius doesn’t let her out of it.
Adrian arrives next. He jokes around with the valet and his secretary, which gives me a very good sense of his personality. He throws his keys to the valet, and asks him how the college search is coming. He’s playful, but not in a way that’s disrespectful of others.
Next, he talks to his secretary about the case from 1x01. They’ve officially won. And, his secretary alerts him, Diane is already meeting with Barbara.
In Barbara’s office (which is the one I thought, in 1x01, belonged to Adrian, but in any case is still Will Gardner’s office), Barbara tells Diane she heard her speak at an ABA conference. “Oh, yes, on racial hiring,” Diane recalls. “That’s right,” Barbara says. She doesn’t elaborate, and Diane understands: “Oh. I hope I didn’t embarrass myself too much.” Barbara doesn’t reassure Diane (and why should she?): “Hmm. Not too much.” Diane laughs to move the conversation along, but they both know Barbara wasn’t joking.
Yeah. That’s definitely Will’s office. See the door to his private bathroom of Willicia sexytimes?
Adrian enters before things can get any tenser between Diane and Barbara. Adrian has a gift—a nice bottle of wine—for Diane. It’s from his own row of vines.
Barbara mentions that they’ll need Diane’s capital contribution by next week. Diane tries to spin the situation with the old firm, telling them she’d appreciate their patience. Adrian says it’s fine, because he’s dealt with David Lee, and tells her she needs to be in on a meeting at 11 with litigation financiers.
Diane exits, and Barbara asks Adrian, “And how patient are we to be?” “Let’s give her two weeks,” Adrian replies. Their dynamic reminds me a lot of season 1 Will and Diane. Definitely not the same, but the sense of partners who have very different ideas about how to approach situations and what they’re trying to accomplish.
Marissa is plugging in Diane’s computer when she gets to her office. “Are you from Lockhart/Deckler?” she asks, not recognizing Marissa (who’s under a desk). “Lee, Deckler…,” Marissa begins to recite. No more Lockhart! When Marissa pops up from under the desk, Diane recognizes her. Marissa wants to help as much as she can, because if she goes back to Lee/Deckler, she’ll just be sent out on another errand.
“When Alicia hired me, I was supposed to be involved in cases and everything, but it’s been all moving boxes since she left,” Marissa explains. How did I miss an Alicia reference the first time through!? I just deleted a whole thing about how I don’t understand how Marissa got a job at Lockhart/Deckler when she was always in Alicia’s universe and… this makes so much sense. Though, it also means that Alicia would’ve had to have hired Marissa in late season 7 of TGW, right? But we didn’t see that happen. Or does it mean that Alicia stuck around for a little bit even after 7x22? Whatever. The important thing is that it makes a lot of sense that Alicia hired Marissa.
Unpacking a box, Marissa holds up the Diane/HRC photo. “Still want this?” she asks dryly. “Definitely,” Diane replies. WHY WOULDN’T SHE, MARISSA?
Racist as fuck David Lee sent Diane a box of African masks to take to her new firm. A perfect moment for Barbara to walk in—she definitely sees the masks. Barbara mentions that Diane will need an assistant and candidates are coming in today. As soon as Barbara’s out of earshot, Marissa starts angling for the assistant job. She says she doesn’t have a resume, but wants to be hired for a day as a trial.
At the union, Lucca is sort of in charge. Everyone else is there to give 20 minute max consultations. Their purpose isn’t to find new business, it’s to refer people to other resources. Which is a nice way of saying that maybe they’ll help a few people, but mostly it’ll look good.
“You’re the ‘door close’ button in the elevator. Comforting, but not necessarily effective,” Julius explains. I like that analogy. (Also, of course it’s an analogy about elevators. How long ‘til TGF’s first elevator makeout sesh?)
Case stuff happens, and we get a sense of how this type of legal work plays out. Maia’s not sure how to accomplish what Julius instructed her to do. “I’m not really supposed to help…” she tells one woman. The woman then asks, “Then why are you here? If you can’t help, why are you here?” Maia doesn’t have an answer.
Lucca surveys the room and notices that Maia’s line is longer than anyone else’s. She glances at the other lawyers, and it’s obvious why Maia has the longest line: she’s the only white lawyer. “Oh, come on,” Lucca says to herself.
Lucca tries to convince a white man in Maia’s line (the line behind Maia isn’t entirely white, btw—I think this scene is about both people assuming that a white lawyer would be more knowledgeable or better just because she’s white AND racist white people being comfortable around other white people) to come with her instead. He isn’t interested. Lucca tells him she’s a third year associate and Maia just passed the bar, and he won’t budge. She moves on to the next man.
The case of the week begins with Maia talking to a man who’s been accused of stealing product and had his wages garnished. He wants his wages to be garnished less, but Maia wonders why her wages are being garnished at all. He signed a confession.
Maia takes it to Lucca. It was a forced confession. There’s arbitration that afternoon, and Maia wants to go to help him out. Lucca tries to talk her down, but Maia asks again. Lucca, sensing that Maia could use a win/a distraction from her own problems (Lucca doesn’t know it, but Maia’s still getting those messages.)
Lucca also asks if Maia’s doing okay, and Maia says that for the first time in a while, yes. “It’s good when you can focus on someone else’s problem,” Lucca says. Maia smiles in agreement. “First place I’ve been I wasn’t recognized,” Maia comments.
The meeting with the litigation financers—two dudes who run cases through an algorithm, which is a thing so Kings-y it must actually exist (it does: http://www.newyorker.com/business/currency/what-litigation-finance-is-really-about) – is going on over at RBK. (Heh. I am reading that New Yorker article now, and guess what ad I was served? Yep. An ad for TGF.)
The RBK conference room is Diane’s LG office. Seriously, they didn’t even change out the window backdrops.
Marissa calls Diane out of the meeting to meet with Lenore, Maia’s mother. I think Diane’s office is one of the 27th floor offices, maybe Alicia’s old one. Those windows look really familiar.
Lenore is trying to get to Maia through Diane. Diane doesn’t want to do anything to help Lenore—doesn’t Lenore see how much she’s hurt Diane? Lenore insists it was all Jax. But Diane doesn’t believe that: she asked about the money for the house, and they told her to keep it in the fund! Yup. Not sure if I noted it last ep or not, but definitely thought it was fishy Henry was being so pushy about Diane not buying the Provence house…
Lenore says she’s innocent and wants to know why Diane’s treating her like she’s not. Uh, maybe for the reason she just gave you? Maybe because it was your responsibility to know if there was a scheme going on, even if it wasn’t yours?
Finally, Diane agrees to tell Maia that Lenore stopped by. Satisfied, Lenore begins to leave, then mentions that it would also be great if Diane could visit Henry in prison. Since Henry is Diane’s oldest friend (interesting that she’s friends with Henry more than Lenore—I want more backstory!), Lenore wants her to visit and maybe give legal advice. Diane considers.
Arbitration takes place in the mall where Client of the Week, Frank, works.
Maia begins to make an argument, and no one else in the room takes it as seriously as she does. Then Lucca pops in as “an observer from the union.” More like “moral support for Maia.” (And Lucca might be thinking this could lead to bigger things.)
The arbiter decides against Frank, and Lucca provides Maia with another argument to make. She came prepared. (Lucca’s so good and so quick on her toes. I bet she’ll be moving up the ranks quickly. She deserves to.)
Diane does, in fact, decide to visit Henry (whom she calls Hank) in prison. It’s hard to see him in an orange jumpsuit.
They end up talking about the case. Henry also mentions they went to college together. But WHERE? “I’m telling you the truth,” Henry insists.
Henry explains that it’s all Jax’s fault and his lawyer won’t use that as a defense strategy. Henry wants Diane to represent him, and she says no—he needs someone objective. About time someone on this show realized that! What in the hell was Diane doing representing Peter Florrick in season 7?!?!?!?! On a case that involved her husband?!?! #StillBitter about how bad that trial arc was. It’s amazing I’m this bitter considering that I was never even invested in that arc!
Henry accepts that and asks about Maia. “She’s gonna blow us all away,” he says proudly. Diane wants Maia to stay away from her parents until the scandal gets sorted out, and Henry decides to mention that Lenore “doesn’t have years” because her breast cancer is back. This turns out not to be true, so I’m not sure who’s playing whom, but I don’t trust Maia’s parents. I especially don’t trust her mom, but I don’t think we’re supposed to.
Diane passes the information onto Maia, as Henry had to have known she would.
Meeting with the partners, Julius is furious that Lucca took on the COTW. Lucca makes the case for her actions, and Julius thinks it’s about her losing her office to a partner. That’s news to Diane. Lucca says it’s about a good case.
Meanwhile, Maia is doing her idea of working, which is calling Amy to ask a question that’s easily Googled. I mean ChumHummed. Amy even tells her to go look it up online when Maia asks for more information. I’m really not sure why Maia had to call Amy during the work day with a work question. I’m also not sure why this seems to have gotten under my skin.
Lucca brings Maia the bad news, but then reconsiders and tells her to go ahead anyway—on their own time. They’re going to attend a seminar on the method of questioning that was used to get their client to confess.
It’s total bullshit, as one would expect. Maia listens attentively, while Lucca doesn’t buy it for a second. I know why Maia’s tempted to believe in this—she wants to know if her parents are lying!—but I’m with Lucca on this one. She notes that since this method is about anxiety, not guilt/innocence, it’s an unreliable indicator of guilt. Who wouldn’t be anxious? Bingo. Maia wants to know if the same thing holds true if there’s no reason to be anxious (she’s not thinking about the case now). Lucca thinks people have tells but…
She doesn’t get to finish that thought, because she looks at the name tags of the fellow seminar attendees, and realizes they’re mostly middle managers at stores just like the one Frank works at. Now THERE’S a case.
“This is a massive class action,” she tells the partners the next day. Now, the partners are in favor of it and tell Lucca to go certify a class.
An aspect of TGF that I’m very excited about is the hierarchy at RBK. One thing that always strikes me as a smart structural choice when I rewatch season 1 of TGW is that Alicia and Cary feel like first year associates. There’s tension inherent in that, plus there’s the competition between them. They have less room for error, a lot to learn, and they have to take orders. As TGW goes on, Alicia takes on more responsibility at work and becomes more important to the firm, even becoming a partner. When she and Cary go out on their own, they both become name partners, and from then on, all the leads who are lawyers are of equal rank. The conflicts are different at that level—scheming and backstabbing instead of trying to navigate a workplace hierarchy. I have to wonder if losing the hierarchy was part of what led to the firm nonsense in the later seasons of TGW.
TGF is set up differently. Instead of having two first year associates and two name partners as the regulars, we have: an assistant, a first year associate, a third year associate, a junior partner, and two name partners. Each character has a unique position, and thus unique expectations/goals/responsibilities/concerns, and I’m hoping this structure organically translates into tensions—and then plots—for the characters.
Diane encourages Adrian and Barbara to keep Maia on the case now that it’s a big deal. Adrian agrees, because everyone hating her is a great way to mold a fighter.
In reception, three black women wait to interview for the assistant job. “There may not even be a job here, I just want to warn you,” Marissa tells them. Oh my God, Marissa. Do you even know how that came across?!?!?!? Do you know how rude and clueless and privileged you’re being?!
Marissa senses that, if she wants to be Diane’s assistant, she’s going to need to help out in a big way. She asks Maia and Lucca what the case is, and isn’t she in luck? It’s about retail workers. And what was Marissa doing last year? Working at a mall, making friends with lots of retail workers. Marissa may be a little obnoxious, but she is resourceful (which doesn’t excuse the cluelessness/obnoxiousness). And not just resourceful: she’s also good at talking to people, persistent, and comfortable in situations most people would avoid.
The head of the union is mad about the class. Now they need to find a new financer, so back to the algorithm boys we go!
Is it typical to use the first person who signs up for a class action as the test case? And to move this quickly? I would think you’d want to independently vet the test case as carefully as possible before deciding?
Algorithm boys don’t want to go for it because they don’t like the judge assigned to the case. “Your algorithm’s not taking into account that I’m a fucking good lawyer,” Adrian responds. Otherwise, the algorithm likes the case, so Adrian says he’s going to get a new judge.
“We’re going to court. Fuck the union,” Adrian declares, walking into Diane’s office. He points at Maia and tells her she’s second chair.
They’re having trouble finding people for the class, and at the moment Maia and Diane tell Adrian, Marissa appears with a list of people who are on board. “And there are two more people here to be interviewed,” she says, knowing she just got herself the job. “Who was that?” Adrian asks. “My new assistant,” Diane decides.
In court, Adrian asks the judge to recuse himself. Why? Because he lost money in the Rindell fund, and Maia’s second chair.
The judge recuses himself, and now Abernathy is presiding. Fun bit of trivia: Abernathy’s first episode was W1x02. Now he’s in F1x02. His quirk in this episode is that he has to wear his prescription sunglasses.
Opposing counsel is Andrea Stevens, the woman who kept telling Lucca she loved her hair in TGW season 7.
Case stuff happens! It goes well for Lucca et al.
“Good to see you’re still at it,” Andrea tells Lucca after court. How condescending. Why wouldn’t Lucca still be at it?
“It’s, uh, Mia, right?” Andrea says to Maia, damn well knowing Maia’s name.
Andrea wants to talk to Lucca sometime. Lucca says they can talk now. Lucca assumes it’ll be a settlement offer, but Andrea just wants to know where Lucca gets her haircut. Andrea makes me so uncomfortable. She’s so fake.
Oh no, I just noticed that Maia’s phone says it’s March 9th. I’m kind of tempted to go back to the earlier scenes and see if the timeline matches, but… I’m good.
“It was just a scare,” Lenore tells Maia when they finally talk. Of course it was.
Maia tries to interrogate her mom. The shot gets tighter and tighter (on both Lenore and Maia) as they talk—Maia’s definitely trying to apply that interrogation method she learned about. But it’s inconclusive.
Later, Maia and Amy are in bed together. Amy plays with Maia’s hair as Maia talks about her conversation with her mom. “I don’t know if she’s lying or not,” Maia says. “About the cancer?” Amy wonders. “No, about the fund,” Maia clarifies.
“We were always the boring family. All my friends, their parents were divorcing or having affairs, and I used to lie about mom and dad fighting so that I wouldn’t seem so weird. And now… it’s like we’re paying for all those years of happiness,” Maia explains. I was just watching Robert King talk about this scene, and it’s interesting to me that he puts some of the blame on Maia for not sensing it earlier. Were they really happy, or was she just content to think they were? How much has her privilege allowed her to keep her eyes shut and not question the world around her?
Maia and Amy are great together. I can’t wait to learn more about Amy. She seems like she’s a bit older than Maia. How long have they been together? Who pays for that lovely apartment? When did they move in together?
Case stuff happens.
Maia’s so nervous at first in court. She speaks haltingly and quietly. Then, when she’s asked to speak up, she speaks too loudly. I feel you, Maia.
Barbara notices that Marissa is acting as Diane’s assistant. “Diane. You didn’t like any of the applicants?” Barbara wonders. “It’s just that I know Marissa,” Diane explains. We, of course, understand why Marissa is a tempting pick for Diane: she’s familiar, reliable, and just saved their ass on this case. Those are good reasons to hire someone. But Marissa’s also white, probably unqualified for this job (did she even go to college?), and the daughter of a well-known campaign manager. It’s the same thing that happened with Maia last week, but now it’s looking like a pattern. Diane is the only white person at RBK, and she immediately begins to bring more white people over, just as Barbara suspected she would.
Andrea Stevens makes a settlement offer for Frank, but it’s only good if they drop the class. As Andrea leaves, Lucca calls after her. “I have an answer for you now,” she says. Playing Andrea’s game, she proceeds to hand her the number for her hair stylist.
The algorithm boys don’t want to take the settlement. This turns out to be a bad move, because… Frank has a history of stealing from employers.
“I hate losing,” Maia says after court. She’s also confused because she thought Frank was telling the truth. “Maybe he was. About the running shoes,” Diane theorizes. “You know people can lie and still be telling the truth. Nobody’s 100% of any one thing,” Diane continues. I like this advice more than her advice from last week.
“My mom lied about her cancer,” Maia confides in Diane. “It was a scare. It wasn’t real. She just wanted to see me.”
“She’s lonely,” Diane explains. “People get desperate when they’re lonely. You should go see her.”
Maia takes Diane’s advice, but maybe she shouldn’t have, because when she gets to her family home, she finds her mom in a nightgown (one of those nightgowns that look so much like lingerie I wonder if anyone actually wears them). Lenore suggests breakfast the next morning, and tries to rush Maia out. Maia asks whose car is parked outside, and Lenore lies. Then Jax—Maia’s uncle—walks in. Uh oh.
I’d be more invested in this cliffhanger if I ever cared about these ongoing arcs.

With the advent of hyper-casual, cross-platform, multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and live stream culture, a gaming phone is more relevant than ever before. But from the Nokia N-gage days to recent past, this has been a stumbling pursuit and brushed off as pointless. However, that hasn’t stopped a few brands like Nubia, who are steadfast in their resolve. Accordingly, we have come across “truly” gaming smartphones, like the one in this review, that claim a competitive advantage over their mainstream counterparts.
The Nubia Red Magic 3S was launched in India in the latter half of the year. It might have flown under your radar, partly since 2019 witnessed a glut of quality smartphones. Secondly, this ZTE associate is a fairly lesser-known brand in the country. Nonetheless, when the device came across my hands, I decided to give it a try. In fact, I’ve been putting it to the test since then.
So, if it piques the gamer gene in you to know whether this should be a part of your gaming setup, read along. I’ll be sharing my experience over the course of this review.
But before we delve into details, let’s get the specs out of our way.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Price and Specifications

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Design and Build
It’s like the Nubia designers let their imagination run wild and came up with this polarizing look. The design resembles something inspired by the Transformers, the movie franchise. Build-wise, it’s a metallic stout that weighs around 215 grams, which is slippery and a bit unwieldy.
But the make is mused over and it’s more than what meets the eye. The choice of metal over glass means better heat dissipation. Although the convex-shaped base acts as a rocking chair when placed on a surface, it offers a nice hold. Rest, everything from the slightly jutting diamond-shaped rear camera to the air intake grill, fingerprint scanner, RBG strip to the logo feels sauce!
To the right, you get two touch-sensitive triggers, an exhaust vent, volume rockers, and the power button. While the left side has the Game Space switch, SIM-card tray, and the connector for the dock station. Nubia has given both a USB-C socket and a 3.5mm audio jack – things we no longer take for granted.
Now, the fancy elements of the Nubia design DNA might very well throw off a casual user. But, Nubia’s aesthetic choices, for all intents and purposes, do stand out from the crowd.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Display & Audio
Nubia Red Magic display keeps up with the times. The FHD+ AMOLED panel supports the 90Hz refresh rate. The panel measure 6.65-inches diagonally with an 18:9 aspect ratio. There’s HDR support too.
Needless to say, the display is smooth but the higher refresh rate does cut back on the battery life. Now, if you try to bring it down to 60Hz, you wouldn’t find the option right away. Dig deeper into the Game Space settings, there’s an option to toggle between 60 and 90 hertz. But mind you, this is not applied system-wide, which defeats the point.
The screen legibility is fine at 480 nits under both sun and shade. However, while kept in comparison to some of its peers, we felt it could’ve been a wee bit brighter and sharper. Then there were times when the touch wasn’t as responsive as I wanted it to be. The long presses on the home screen or app drawer to open the menu or drag and drop items went undetected. Call it a one-off thing or even a software bug, but it was weird what so ever. Also, it only has support for Widevine L3 which means you can stream Netflix and Prime in 480p resolution only. Oof!
As for the sound, Red Magic sports dual front-firing speakers. The audio output is alright in terms of loudness and texture. The same is true for headphone sound staging. While I was testing the Skullcandy Sesh (review), the output was clearly finer on the OnePlus 7T (review).
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Camera
While the industry is pacing to place more and more cameras on their phones, Nubia has stuck to two shooters, one on either side. There’s a 16-megapixel shooter on the front and a 48-megapixel sensor at the back. The camera app is pretty straight forward with an easy to use interface. It comes with a dedicated macro mode, night mode, 48MP mode, and video recording up to 8K (although limited to 15fps), amongst other features.
However, when it comes to real-world performance, the camera pales grossly. The photos lack the detail, texture, and life you expect. In a similar vein, the selfies are gloomy, especially while taken indoor. The faces look overly softened. Lack of OIS means the videos come out jittery. The case is similar when it comes to the Slomo feature. Although it boasts 1920 fps, the result is choppy. Even missing basics like native portrait mode is not appreciated in 2019-20.
Here are some camera samples for your reference –

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Gaming & Battery Life
Performance is the strongest suit of Red Magic 3S. After all, it’s a gaming phone. It is engined by a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. Nubia has slapped stock-ish Android on top. This means a bloat-free and smooth experience. But, on the other hand, some of you might not like the baseline AOSP and find it a lil too bland.
But if you ask me, it was right up my alley. The skin is bloat-free, smooth and responsive. Two things that really irked me were – the persistent ‘SIM1 is HD capable‘ notification and every time I tap mobile data QS tile, it took a moment to respond. Oo Yes, gesture navigation and system-wide dark mode are also heavily missed here. For some weird reason, the given Dark Theme failed to work. Plus, Android 9 feels dated when its peers like Asus ROG Phone 2 (review) are already enqueued for the latest Android 10.
The software also plays a big part in the gaming experience. For instance, the Game Space lets you manage your games in one place. It can be toggled on or off using the hardware switch on the top left corner. You can control the fan cooling speed and other game settings, track the performance, block calls and notifications for a focussed gaming session. You even get an option to customize the RGB LED strip at the back.
Here’s a quick rundown its special gaming features –
4D customizable vibrations, the shoulder triggers, action button, and even the fingerprint reader enhances the control and command over the games.
The light strip (which is BTW customizable) might appeal to anyone who’s a sucker for the RGB light.
A second-generation ICE liquid cooling coupled with an actual fan does a good job in heat dissipation.

Red Magic 3S’s impressive performance is reflected in the run of the mill benchmark scores as well –
Benchmark  Score AnTuTu 4,95,238 Geekbench Compute OpenCL score 2750 Geekbench Score Single-core 788 Geekbench 5 multi-core 2455 3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL ES 6233 3D Mark Sligh Shot Extreme Vulkan 5417
While we are discussing benchmarks, let me interject the storage read and write speeds that have significantly improved on the 3S over its predecessor. Thank Nubia for adopting UFS 3.0 standard and hence the phone manages to hit following R/W speeds –
Sequential Read: 1470.59 MB/s
Sequential Write: 221.84 MB/s
Random Read: 162.31 MB/s
Random Write: 132.46 MB/s
It can handle prolonged heavy loads with no throttling or hiccups. The active cooling via a fan and liquid cooling via the vapor chamber does make a difference. The great replay value it offers is courtesy of that capacious 5K mAh battery. It’s capable of squeezing out two-day worth juice on normal use. And even with long game hours, you are less likely to feel range-anxiety. I just wished it had supported a faster charging. An 18W adapter feels a mismatch for the big battery. Moreover, the bundled power brick feels a little cheap too.

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Verdict
Reviewing a gaming phone is a tad different than judging conventional phones. A gamer values and nitpicks on things that would hardly bother the mainstream audience. I state my case with Nubia’s design philosophy. Although the phone is a safe bet on the performance front, you can’t blame one for wishing a less garish look and better ergonomics. Similarly, Nubia could’ve cooked a polished software experience and given versatile and dependable cameras.
The magic it conjures up whilst gaming is appealing for sure. But if that doesn’t excite you, there is hardly anything worth aspiring. At the starting price of Rs. 35,999, one does have more than “good enough” flagship killers. If you can shell out a bit more, there you have the ROG Phone 2.

@marty Downsides of physics?
Response from Marty McFly:
I feel somewhat underqualified to make statements about the field of physics as a whole (although I obviously have a mountain of totally unsupported opinions on the matter). I’m assuming you’re more interested in the downsides of a physics major, of which I think there are many. There are a lot of different directions in which you could go with that kind of question, so it obviously depends on your circumstances. As with all choices, the decision about what to major in is more about how various majors compare, so it would be useful to know what matters to you, what your likes and dislikes are, what your plans for after graduation are (or what you’re considering), etc. I’ll try to give a broad overview of my opinions on this question that are hopefully useful to anyone considering physics, but feel free to resubmit with more details and I’ll try to think in more detail.
Right up top I just want to make it clear that there are definitely gonna be mixed opinions if you ask different people. I probably have a less common view of the department than most people, but I will try to keep this unbiased. The most common thing people will tell you is that it’s hard. Indeed this is true, but this also depends on the person. I am convinced that physics is easier for me than english or comp lit would’ve been, it’s just about what skill set you have. It’s also important to keep in mind that it’s easier to do 20 hours of work that you want to do than 5 hours of work that you don’t. Now, there are probably going to be a lot of frustrating moments, no matter how motivated you are. Even if you save yourself a lot of the struggling by working in groups, there are going to be times when profs assign shitty problem sets that send you on an hours long search for information. Indeed, this is one of the things that I hate about physics. A lot of the stuff we learn is so fucking hard that it’s out of the question that you’ll be deriving it, so you run into problems where you’re simply lacking necessary information, which is just frustrating and unnecessary. Say what you will about math, but at least you usually know what the problem is asking and you have all the information you need. More broadly though, if you’re interested in getting the stuff down and doing well on tests, you’ll probably have to spend considerable time on it (unless you’re off the charts smart).
There’s also the problem that most of what you learn is not really the stuff that people get excited about in physics. Real physics is very detailed and relies a lot on math and stuff that you don’t want to think about, so it might be a departure from the kind of excitement you can get from youtube videos and pop science. Over long periods, you might see things coming together in a really exciting way, but most of what you learn is pretty benign and you’ll forget after a year unless you go back and review or you’re still using it regularly. We won’t name names, but a certain McFly may have forgotten a very basic derivation that’s EXTREMELY relevant to his work this summer and looked like a dumbass in front of his grad student mentor. In a good class like 208, you’ll use the math to build intuition about one of the most marvelous discoveries in physics (and indeed I recommend that everyone try to take that class if they can), but in a class like 301, where the level of approximation is off the charts and you’re using a less than ideal book (lmao like an ideal gas cause its thermo) and all the problems are from said book, you might skim over some stuff and end up not making good connections. Really the problem is that if you’re a physics major you have to take a lot of classes, but if you do something else you can just focus on the ones that interest you, so that flexibility is nice.
In terms of like mental health, there are definitely gonna be a lot of opinions about that, so I’ll try to tread lightly. I know PUWIP (I think that’s what it’s called) makes a really big effort to offer support (especially for marginalized groups) and I’ve heard nothing but excellent things about them, so there are good resources. It is, however, difficult to feel like a moron/failure on such a regular basis and to constantly feel defeated. Of course, this doesn’t apply to everyone, but I’ve definitely had a lot of those moments. Heck, there was a semester where every Sunday I’d get started on my problem set for this one class, and I’d end up spending between ten and ninety minutes just lying on the ground and trying to wrap my head around the depths of my incompetence. Looking back it really wasn’t a big deal, but it’s hard in the moment. Btw, if you ever feel like that, plz write in and I will tell you all the things I didn’t do that I should’ve. But anyway. Physics can really make you question your own ability a lot, so it’s important to have a plan for dealing with that. It’s definitely not made easier by the fact that the department is full of very smart folks. I actually feel like there’s a really great culture of being open about hardship in physics, but it can still be hard not to feel inadequate.
I can’t really say much about independent work, but it’s hard to say anything about it anyway. It fluctuates so much by prof/project and you just have to decide for yourself if that’s something you enjoy. That can be a hard thing to figure out, but if you’re considering physics then spend the summer after freshman year in an interesting lab and see what it’s like.
Aside from this, there are some minor considerations like the fact that physics is AB so you’d have to fulfill those distribution requirements and whatever, but I don’t have any insight about that kind of stuff. Honestly there are probably points I’ve missed in this, so sorry in advance if this isn’t what you were looking for.
If you’re not interested in reading all of the above, I guess my main message is that I recommend against physics as a major. It will almost certainly make your experience at princeton less pleasant than it would’ve been otherwise and for what? You’ll learn some cool stuff, but you could’ve learned most of the broad points on your own or taken those classes anyway. It’s not like it’ll do you a lot of good for post college plans. You’ll probably be more qualified than most to apply to physics grad school (although it’s not clear why you’d want to do that either), but math majors get into physics all the time, so you’re not really closing that door. Hell, I think Ed Witten studied History or something in undergrad. Of course, if you’re psyched about physics research, then you’ve probably found the right major. But if you want to end up in software, finance, consulting, clownery, you probably would’ve been better prepared having spent your time elsewhere. It’s true that physics is an acceptable major for a wide range of jobs because the skills tend to be applicable, but I can assure you that COS skills are more applicable if you’re applying for a job in software engineering.
Obviously, when it comes down to a case by case basis, I think there are a lot of good reasons to major in physics (or else I wouldn’t do it lol), but this is my advice for a general interlocutor. Also, I’ve said it before, but don’t take what I say too seriously.

So on my way home, i was going 14 over the speed limit and i was pulled over, i was nice to the officer and he let me off with a citation, which sounds bad, but instead of me having to have that on my record, i just pay off the ticket and pay for a 4 hour driving class. And then there will not be any call made to my insurance company about the ticket. So will they really not call my insurance? my dad does not know i was pulled over and if i can just pay the ticket and take the class secretly then be done with it? or will the autorities still notify my company but make sure that they do not penalize me for it? So is there any health insurance for those with serious medical conditons?
My younger brother who's only 20 years old has a host of serious illnesses: crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and a few more conditions that has constantly kept him sick for a good portion of his childhood. Obviously, it's practically impossible for him to hold a steady job, he'll work for a while and then he'll have to take off a month or two just to deal with his illness, with that said he surely won't have employee health insurance. Currently, he's using our state's medicaid, however once he turns 21 he's no longer eligible for medicaid. With the health care system being the way that it is, is there any possibility that he could continue receiving health care despite his ineligibility? He takes a ton of drugs daily, and even takes some of the same medications that our grandparents take lol. I know some of you heartless conservatives believe he should provide his own health coverage, but how? His drugs cost thousands, and he's in the ER constantly, thus making his health-care only affordable to extremely rich individuals. When healthy, he does contribute as much as he possibly can, however for someone in his condition it would be downright shameful if he can't continue to receive any healthcare.""

Auto Insurance/License Question!?
I am a 19 year old Californian and I need to purchase auto insurance for my car before I take the drivers test for my license, at least that is what I am led to believe, maybe I don't? But the auto insurance companies require me to give my license number before I can buy the insurance. So I can't get insurance without a license and can't get a license without insurance? No, I cannot be put onto my parents auto insurance or anything. I do not live with them, I am not a dependent of them, etc, etc.""
Why is car insurance so high for young drivers?
I am 18 and currently on my fathers motor trade insurance. This covers me for anything upto 1600cc for social and domestic, you are actually having a laugh 1600cc is a joke! I can drive anything for business purposes. Recently rang the insurance to see if they would insure me on an IVECO DAILY 2.8 turbo diesel, as i was delivering some furniture to my grand parents in malta, about 1000 miles away from the uk, 2000 mile round trip. The answer i got was a blatant no, i didn't even get chance to say .8, anyway i was so pissed off i did the trip. didn't have one accident what so ever, not even a near miss when i drove to malta there and back. explain why they wouldn't insure me i really don't understand. My dads friend who is 53 years old was born not to drive a car, he has an accident atleast once a week because he mentally switches off when he drives. He drove down to germany any rolled his car times on the autobahn and i didn't have a crash or a near miss once in a 3.5 ton van, where is the common sense surely they should coin the people who litterally can't drive?""

Who thinks the health insurance waivers means that companies don't have to provide health insurance?
You'd be wrong. Care to understand why? http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/10/truth-about-health-care-waivers The bad news is that today mini-meds are often the only affordable option for many low-wage workers because retail and chain restaurants rarely offer their workers options beyond these plans. And because mini-meds are built around annual limits, estimates from employers and insurers indicate that beginning the phase out of annual limits this year would cause mini-med premiums to rise by more than 200 percent, forcing employers to drop coverage and sending many low-wage workers to purchase insurance on the more expensive individual insurance market, where they would get an even worse deal than what they have today. The result would be a whole new population of uninsured Americans. To ensure that we protect the coverage that these workers have today until better options are available for them in 2014, the law allows HHS, in extreme cases, to issue temporary waivers from the phase out of annual limits. There are some important facts to remember about these temporary waivers: The waivers only apply to one provision of the law  the provisions phasing out annual limits. Insurance companies and employers that receive waivers must comply with all other parts of the Affordable Care Act. The waivers last one year. Insurance companies must reapply for the waivers each year between now and 2014 when annual limits on coverage will be completely prohibited and individuals will have more affordable and better private insurance choices in the competitive Exchange markets. All employers and insurers that offer mini-med plans may apply for a waiver if they demonstrate that there will be large increases in premiums or a significant decrease in access to coverage without a waiver. You can read a list of employers and insurers that have received waivers here.""

Obtaining auto insurance quote for dummies?
I've done a little Google searching and haven't found a clear answer to my question. Can anyone help me out? I got a speeding ticket awhile back but when I went to court the judge gave me a plea bargain which lowered the violation to driving with a defective tail light , driving an unsafe vehicle or something of that nature. I don't remember exactly. So, when getting a quote from a new provider, do I list the incident as a speeding ticket? Or as the violation that I was actually convicted of? Question about car insurance?
I'm hopefully buying a car next month and my brother has agreed to look after it for me as he has private land with his property so I can leave it with him uninsured and then I will insure myself before I go to uni in September and then collect my car. My brother says he will take it for a spin now and again to keep it warmed up which is fine by me but I'm worried as their will be no insurance listed for that car. Although my brother has his own car and his own insurance policy which says he can drive anyone else's car, I would be the legal owner of the car and have no insurance so was wondering if it would be possible for him to be accused of driving without insurance? Hope that makes sense. Also if a car needs an MOT does it have to be the legal owner that takes the car for MOT test or could my brother do it on my behalf (my brother lives 100 miles from me and I wouldn't have the insurance to drive it there). Thanks in advance.""

What if I don't have one and my car is perfectly fine? Please don't even get me started on bills! It freaks me out to know that companies just want money, money, money and wont stop at anything to get it.
