Reference for Hallowrove's scars!
First death: Lost the Feducci duel, got impaled with his lance. Would have healed more messily if Oversol hadn't been there to take it out and help afterwards.
Shapeling Arts first aid: stabbed in a dock brawl, patched up creatively by Haarsink
Vake: first encounter with it in BaL, the text mentioned it raking its claws down the player's legs while holding their shoulders and the image just stuck with me
Upper River Beast: sometimes there's a Big Fuckoff Flesh Creature. Lingering scar from an out-of-game roleplay incident.
Others: no consistent canonical placement for the assorted small scars, except for none around the eyes. Definitely most of them are from monster hunting or clambering around over walls and other types of Hallowroveish Activities they get into out of curiosity, but a couple lighter and older ones are from absentmindedness when they used to do metalwork and mechanical stuff on the Surface.

I think Dola could probably get kidnapped by Scaleflats if he so desires. It would be enrichment for both parties
Oh no you're absolutely right and it's funny as hell. I can absolutely imagine that. Hallowrove goes to sleep one night and wakes up tied in a dark room, they start running through who could possibly be after them right now - they haven't made any proper enemies in a while, which Master did they come closest to angering recently? Could it be anyone tied to the Vake hunt still?? A light comes on and oh that's Scaleflats. It's just. ...Well. This isn't how she'd expected her day to go but you know what, nothing better planned for this particular weekend.
I can absolutely see Scaleflats as the type to very politely ask if Dola wouldn't mind being kidnapped after having kidnapped him. And it would indeed be enrichment! Yet another Shapeling Arts test to escape the ropes, no doubt, and some good Shadowy shenanigans to navigate a way out. Just another point in a long history of testing each other for fun and profit (the profit is simply advanced skill CP)
Tagging @cosmogone-spectacles to give Oversol a heart attack

Hallowrove doesn't want or need top surgery, but if they did then being a monster hunter really is the perfect excuse. What, these scars? Oh that's just from The Beast, you know how it is. The Horrors 😌

That sound was not a part of the normal night-time hum.
Hallowrove does not stop. To the outside observer she might not have heard, but her senses now prickle with awareness, and her breath picks up with her steps in spite of herself. She is armed, of course - the usual bone knife at her belt and revolver in her coat in case of incident - but the noise still sends certain old fears trailing her steps like a man stood uncomfortably close at a soiree.
It might have been nothing.
It was probably nothing.
Counting the number of storefronts before the next well-lit street corner (five) is still a reflex, not a choice.
Three of those storefronts pass with nothing more than the muffled clump of boots on wet cobble. A lone hansom-cab passes, darkly lit water pouring over its wheels like dirty tears. In the wake of it, unmistakably, a footstep. It is the only one, but there need only be one. He is definitely being followed.
~
In which my two characters share a surprise meeting in the middle of the night, because nothing is more fun to me than letting my guys interact as weirdly and tangentially as possible. :)

[ID: A stylized full body digital art of my Fallen London character Dola Hallowrove. They are framed by a neon green and purple background, aiming a harpoon gun off screen and standing with one foot back as if bracing themself against momentum. End ID]
Happy 1 year character creation birthday to my favourite monster hunter! Seemed a fitting time to experiment with a different art style :)

Number 6, for Hallowrove!
Okay this is the fun one I'd hoped someone would pick because the thing is it's happened so many times in canon already that there's just NO question about the answer
Hallowrove's List Of Who She'd Go To If Badly Injured, by preference:
- Fluorine Scaleflats, a Rubbery friend with a great skill and interest in Shapeling Arts who can be relied on to piece her back together in (mostly) (if asked nicely) the right order
- Haarsink, who also knows shapeling arts and can probably apply them in a much less biologically creative manner in a medical setting, but is second on the list because showing up bleeding at his place would stress him the hell out (ask me how I know lol)
- Oversol, who although being a deeply trusted safe place to go has no particular medical knowledge or skills and will probably just call a very expensive doctor and/or pick Hallowrove up and sprint her to a hospital, while being VERY stressed either way
Hallowrove's List Of Who He'd Go To If Badly Injured, by what inevitably actually ends up happening:
- Oversol
- Haarsink that one time
- But other than that it's always Oversol
- Good lord Hallowrove you are going to put this poor man into heart failure we have got to stop letting this happen so often -

Peppermint for Hallowrove?
I didn't forget about these what are you talking about
Peppermint: How does your OC handle the cold?
Never thought about this before! With a warm stove and hot drinks, usually. In terms of going outside, I can see them bundling up with a scarf and good boots, but I think it's a pretty common occurrence for them to walk out the door in the casual everyday level of cold preparedness and end up wishing they'd worn 'you are now damp and somewhat in the middle of the swamp because you heard a weird noise and decided to follow it' level of clothing. Not that they'd do that or anything. The current level of dampness is completely unrelated.

"📚 Your OC has to improvise a 10 minute lecture about a topic of their choosing. What do they chose?" and "🪤 What is one thing that could be used to lure your OC into a trap?" for a beast(s) of your choosing !!
📚
Hallowrove: Now see, the expected answer here would be monsters, and they definitely could give a 10 minute lecture on Beastes, but their love of monsters is much more practical and experience-based than theoretical or biological so that's not what this lecture is about. Nope, this one is about workers' rights. Sit down listen up and hear this guy who started out job hopping between different metalworking/mechanical trades on the Surface and then came down here and met Mr Fires talk about unionization and workplace power dynamics. The doors are locked. The 10 minutes starts now.
Null: They wanted to plagiarize Hallowrove's speech but they have surveyed public interest and determined that it wouldn't get a very high approval rating. Instead they will be talking about literary analysis but only of the Ministry of Public Decency's most popular approved books and only using points they overheard in Veilgarden.
🪤
Hallowrove: *Deep, long-suffering sigh* In order of canonical events: 1. Something to pique their curiosity, 2. A friend in a situation too dangerous for them to handle, and 3. A hunt that they've started, that takes up more and more of their mind and energy, that by the time they realize what's happening they are too entranced by to break away. Although maybe that last one is also the trap in its own right. I wouldn't call Hallowrove easy to lure, exactly...but...yeah actually yes I would. Who am I kidding. This guy left a stable job to move to a cave full of space bats. They're getting trapped the second something makes a weird noise and they go to see what made it. (Keeping them trapped, however, that's the real issue. Good Luck.)
Null: Literally anything. This guy would walk under a box propped up on a stick for a rusty silver fork. And then try to take the box and stick too.

A Furcation of Pathways
(Fallen London OC fic 3577 words)
You, an Over-Inquisitive Monster Hunter by the name of Dola Hallowrove, have decided to track down an illusive zee beast that nearly sank your zub on more than one occasion. Now, with the hunt a success, you get your long-awaited chance to investigate the creature and learn what secrets its body might be hiding in the depths. …The aftermath may prove to be a little more than what you bargained for, but, well. What else is new in London?
(Based off the Signs of Pursuit card from the Zailing opportunity deck and loosely inspired by the Teratomancy cards from monster hunter professional activities)

I can't believe they named the premier port on the roof after Dola Hallowrove.
I haven't had the chance to get into the update yet and probably won't for a while, but I did notice that. Firmament is really made for them, isn't it. This Just Keeps Happening

oc ask game: i cant do emojis but shiny rock for both
-mleem
🪨 Someone gifts your OC a shiny rock. What do they do with it?
Hallowrove: It's an odd gift, but they've recieved weirder from Rubbery friends and zailors with superstitious good-luck charms. If it seems meaningful to you in the giving, they'll keep it and cherish it, probably on a shelf in their upstairs office next to a few other gifts and assorted oddities and souvenirs from hunts. They don't tend to be sentimental about objects or decorations in general, but a good simple gift goes a long way.
Null: They will hoard it. And then realize that you are now a known source of shiny rocks, and immediately start figuring out how they might get more from you, all that you have, all that you might possibly be able to get. Your shiny rocks will line their mantel. You will know no peace. Every night they will pick them up one by one just to hold them, and feel their weight, and know that that weight is in the accumulation of what in the world is theirs. They might also swallow one eventually. You know how it is.

tea ask game :D! Oolong and matcha ☕!
:D answering for both guys!
Oolong: How does your OC decorate their space?
Hallowrove: Her cabin is furnished with slightly mismatched and mostly outdated furniture, quite obviously having come with the place and not been replaced. For most of their stay in the Neath the rest of it was much the same, but I think now that he's chosen to stay long term and is trying his best to make it into a home it's a little more cosy and personalized. The curtains have been replaced with some nice green fabric, the mantle and shelves in some rooms have gifts from friends on them with varying degrees of oddness and ornamentation. I think there's a lot of blankets set around the living spaces, because the swamp can get chilly but also for visitors. It's...still a bit of a struggle for Hallowrove to settle in to somewhere properly, so there are spots on the walls that seem a little too bare and a few places where you can see something started being used out of convenience and hasn't been replaced since, but overall what the place lacks in decoration it makes up for in lived-in warmth. (Colour wise: I think it's mostly greens, warm browns, and that sort of vintage-y peach/orange tone, you know the one)
Null: The walls are starkly bare. The furniture is as nice as they can afford, verging on ostentatious, and in any given room there's way too much of it. Decorative items crowd every horizontal surface, placed strangely and artlessly, as if with no care for visuals and simply trying to slot in as many as the space will hold. Every "family photo" type decoration has a different set of faces in it. There are a couple rooms - the entry and the parlour, mostly - that are not like this, but instead staged almost like a magazine, uncomfortably positioned for visitors to look and not touch.
Matcha: What is your OC’s preferred little treat?
Hallowrove: Pastry with almonds and honey! Usually with tea, although the quality and preparation depends on whether they're taking it with Oversol.
Null: (deep long-suffering sigh) Slab of raw meat. Big as they come.

Tea asks: lemon balm and ginger!
(answering for Null and Hallowrove since it wasn't specified)
Lemon Balm: Does your OC have any bedtime habits or rituals?
Hallowrove: Filling Sneeve's bucket with fresh mud (mandrakes are fussy, it doubles as an alarm clock because he whines when it gets too dry). Checking that their door is secured, a good habit in the marsh but also a bit of an old tick from that part in Bag a Legend where all the nuns are after you. Putting his goggles on the nightstand, same place out of habit but also because the slight glow is probably good enough to light a lamp or candle by when he needs to get up in the morning.
Null: Picking up or touching every belonging in their lodgings. All the trinkets they've collected and stolen from people, all the expensive gifts they've seduced away from people at the court. They might even pick up armfulls of it all and hold it for a bit, just to feel the weight, as much as they can carry. It only makes them want more, of course, but knowing all of it is Theirs is the closest to satisfaction they can get at the end of a day.
Ginger: What always brightens your OC’s day?
Hallowrove: Finding something unexpected, especially a new creature or unexplored area that could take several hours or days to get to know. Also spontaneous visits from friends - her best friend is a Silverer so it's not too hard to go visiting via mirrors, and everyday life often leaves excuses to go look in on friends at the University while delivering samples or drop by remote spots in the swamp to meet a fellow monster hunter.
Null: Null doesn't exactly have the emotional capacity to get their day "brightened", but making a new connection to exploit might get something akin to excitement from them. A new person enamoured with them at court or a way to incur debt from a spy in the Great Game would make a day much more worthwhile. That or getting hold of a rather large supply of raw meat.
