Time is a tricky thing in the Underworld. It is not linear as it is in the mortal realm or on Olympus. It flows by like the rivers Charon moves his ferry through, with no end and no beginning. Time just - is. But even so, Charon has been trying his best to keep track of how long it has been since he and Hermes have had any time together outside of their brief, work-related interactions. And by his count, it has been nearly three months.

Three months.

Another huff. Charon cranes his neck so he can better listen for the rapid beating of wings and fast-paced chatter. Truthfully, he never used to be so worried about the passage of time. After all - what is three months to a decade, to a century, to an eon? It is nothing. In the face of eternity, three months is insignificant.

And yet, it has been the longest, most painful three months of his eternal life.
