i have another soft josh thought to share! i donā€™t want to bombard you so we can leave it at this one. i think all the boys take skin care pretty seriously, but i particularly think danny does. during a gift exchange, you give danny all kinds of fun skin care items; like some under eye patches, some headbands with animal ears to push his curls out of his face, all the goods. josh feels a little out of place when he sees you and dan gushing over the products, but takes a mental note at all the goods you bought for danny. as soon as josh gets a little bit of an inkling that work isnā€™t going well, heā€™s going to go to the store and gather as much of the skin care products he can remember, and from what he doesnā€™t remember he asks danny to help him pick good stress reliever items. (just picture josh on facetime with dan in the middle of ulta. they would be so stinking cute.) his last item to purchase is two headbands with animal ears on them, he buys one with antlers on it and one with little koala ears. before you get home, he rushes in the door and lights candles around the bathroom and has some soft tunes flowing through the bathroom. when you get home he encourages you to take of your bra and get comfy, but no peeking in the bathroom! when youā€™re comfy and you enter the bathroom, you canā€™t help but let out a little giggle because heā€™s bouncing on the balls of his feet wearing a skin care headband with antlers on it. he looks at you and sheepishly smiles and states that he thinks the two of you need a self care night. after doing some deep facial cleansing, you two put on a clay mask and relax on the couch. josh places your feet in his lap and puts the toe separator things on and paints your toe nails and then moves to paint your fingernails. he takes such meticulous care to make sure they all look perfect and he is so proud of the finished product! (heā€™s defiantly showing off his skills to the boys and they jokingly tell him he missed his calling to be a nail tech) once your nails are dry and you guys are watching some tv he takes a selfie of you two in your headbands to share to dan to thank him for the help! -šŸ¦¦šŸ’“

Skincare catch-up
Below are all the products Iā€™ve used or currently use in my skincare routine. Some do their job but are nothing fancy, some are bad purchases, and some Iā€™ll actually repurchase.Ā
My skin type is combination/oily, and I get acne when Iā€™m stressed (not all over my face though, just 1-3 big pimples). I also have milia all over my cheekbones, and Iā€™m looking into a way to have them removed by a professional since I wasnā€™t able to get rid of them on my own.
Cleansers
Currently using: Purity by Philosophy
Tumblr media
Rating: 6.5/10
It does its job, but I donā€™t think it worked better than a Garnier cleanser I tried a year ago, and itā€™s more expensive. Also, the smell is a bit odd. Clean, but odd. I got this as a free gift for signing up for an Ulta credit card, and itā€™s definitely smooth and feels good rubbing into my skin. This will probably work fine on most skin types. However, for the price tag (and my skin type), thereā€™s probably something better out there for me.Ā
Currently using: Daily Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash (Philosophy)
Tumblr media
Rating: 7/10
Itā€™s a gentle-enough exfoliant that I can use it every morning as a cleanser in place of Purity (though if this is a big skincare mistake, someone please let me know!) It smells a bit like oranges and has a thick jelly texture. It feels refreshing and all, but again, Iā€™m not sure how much itā€™s doing given the fact that I get breakouts whenever Iā€™m stressed and I have to use other products to even out my skin tone again and get rid of acne. It does its job, but for the price, I could probably find something better for my specific skincare needs. That being said, I got the full size on sale for $15 at Christmas last year (normally $42) and it lasts a long time.Ā
Trial: Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser by Drunk Elephant
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
Everyone can get their hands on this in one of the options for your free birthday gift at Sephora this year. If you missed your birthday, you can still get your gift by going on sephora.com and logging into your Beauty Insider account to temporarily change your birth date before you go shopping. Not a huge fan of the packaging, since itā€™s a little messy when my hands are wet from washing my face and I donā€™t want to get cleanser all over the sink and itā€™s hard to close if your fingers are slippery (if youā€™ve used this, you probably know what Iā€™m talking about). Like Purity, the smell is a bit funky, but that could be a good sign since things that smell good usually have fragrance that can cause irritation. Still trying this though, will update later.
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
Only had a sample size that lasted a week, but I liked this when I used it. You didnā€™t need much product to cleanse your whole face, and it smelled really clean and refreshing but not overpowering. Lathered nice, and Iā€™ll probably try this someday when I get more than a little sample packet.Ā
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Foaming Wash
Tumblr media
Rating: 8/10
For a drugstore product, I really liked using this. The only reason I stopped was to try out the Philosophy products. My skin felt tight and clean after using this, and I could really lather to remove dirt and excess makeup. This is kind of my fallback, and my sister (age 20, combo skin) and my mom (age 50+, combo skin and rosacea) both like it too. Garnier also sells one in a blue bottle with aloe, but itā€™s not as good as this one and doesnā€™t have the micellar water.Ā
Toner
Currently using: Thayers Witch Hazel & Rose Petal Toner
Tumblr media
Rating: 8/10
Does its job, doesnā€™t irritate, is inexpensive, and you can find it at the drugstore and Target. In the future I want to try a toner more targeted to my acne-prone oilier skin, but this toner is a catch-all, and overall a solid option in online reviews.Ā
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
I only got a baby sample that lasted 3 days, but this was really nice when I used it. Itā€™s definitely for oily skin since it has alcohol in it, but it didnā€™t dry me out and made my pores feel nice and tight. Wish I could review more in-depth, but didnā€™t get a chance to use this long enough.
Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner
Tumblr media
Rating: 6/10
I guess it worked (itā€™s been over a year since Iā€™ve used this, though) and the smell was good, but I remember liking the Thayers better so I switched. Didnā€™t irritate or anything, nothing badĀ to say, but it didnā€™t leave an impression.
Serum
Currently using: The Ordinaryā€™s Lactic Acid 10% + HA
Tumblr media
Rating: 9/10
For my first real foray into serums, this has worked pretty well. I wanted to increase my skin turnover rate and bring my milia to the surface, and this works well, is under $10, and is gentle enough to use every night. I didnā€™t want to try anything too drastic since I hadnā€™t used serum before, and this one was great. Will keep using, and will likely try other products from The Ordinary in the future.
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
I got a small sample packet of this when I went to a Kiehlā€™s store for a free consultation, and it lasted about a week. I started to see results, but I ran out of the sample and went with The Ordinary since this little sucker is expensive. Seems like a great product, but not good on the budget.Ā
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Hydro-Plumping Re-texturizing Serum Concentrate
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
Seems like a good product, and I liked it for the week I used it. No smell, smooth texture, all good. However, the price is steep, so I donā€™t think Iā€™ll be buying this anytime soon.Ā
Spot Treatments
Currently using: Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
I just bought this yesterday, so Iā€™ll post more of a review after at least a week. First impressions: this is a spot treatment, and I donā€™t know who would use this all over their face like the box says you can do. Itā€™s strong and a bit sticky (like superglue?) and you have to be careful not to touch your eyes or anything while you have some on your fingertips. It absorbs quickly, and while itā€™s definitely drying, you can put moisturizer over it just fine.Ā
Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Gel
Tumblr media
Rating: N/A
I feel like I canā€™tĀ ā€œrateā€ this since itā€™s not OTC and I got it through a doctorā€™s prescription, but I loved this and if the doctor I switched to this past year hadnā€™t screwed up, Iā€™d still be using it twice a day. Gentle, didnā€™t smell like anything, and kept my acne away pretty well. More of a preventative measure than something to use once you already have the acne.
Moisturizers
Currently using: Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer
Tumblr media
Rating: 8.5/10
I started using this a month ago, and I really like it, especially for a light morning moisturizer in the summer. It feels so smooth when you put it on, and the citrus smell is amazing. I like this one better than the Drunk Elephant one (below), and itā€™s half the price. I donā€™t think Iā€™ll use this in the dry winter months, but itā€™s been great in warm temperatures and sunshine.
Trial: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream
Tumblr media
Rating: ~6.5/10
For the price, I donā€™t understand the hype here. Yeah, itā€™s a nice thick creamy moisturizer, but it doesnā€™t smell fabulous and I donā€™t think it works better than other moisturizers that are under $40. However, my sister is in love with this stuff, so maybe itā€™s just me.Ā
Trial: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
I picked this one up at Ulta yesterday, so I havenā€™t had a long enough time to test it. However, it gets rave reviews, and my first impression was that it went on smoothly and felt nice, but Iā€™ll have more to say later.
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Skin Rescuer Moisturizer
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
I liked this moisturizer a lot better than the other one I got as a free sample from Kiehlā€™s (below). No strong smell, applied smoothly (Iā€™m saying this a lot, but thereā€™s a reason), but I didnā€™t notice anyĀ ā€œstress-minimizingā€.Ā
Sample: Kiehlā€™s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm
Tumblr media
Rating: ?
Not for me. Didnā€™t go on my skin smoothly, I didnā€™t like the smell (vaguely oat-like? Or am I crazy?), didnā€™t feel great on my skin. I still had some left in the sample when I threw it out, it just isnā€™t for anyone with oily skin. Not sure why the girl at Kiehlā€™s gave me this, but whatever.
Garnier Skin Active Soothing 3-in-1 Face Moisturizer with Rosewater
Tumblr media
Rating: 6.5/10
Not good in the summer. I might go back to it in the winter, but this probably just made the milia on the thin skin under my eyes worse when it was humid out. More for dry skin, and the fragrance was a bit strong. Also, I felt like you needed a lot of product to use on your whole face, since it didnā€™t glide on like some of the more gel-textured moisturizers Iā€™ve tried. Not too bad for the drugstore, though.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Combination Skin
Tumblr media
Rating: 7/10
I liked this, it definitely mattified my oily t-zone. The only reason I really stopped using it was because I wanted to try a moisturizer with SPF...
Neutrogena Moisturizer, SPF 15
Tumblr media
Rating: 5/10
This didnā€™t work for me. The SPF made it more irritating if I got it close to my eyes or touched my eyes too soon after applying, and my nose in particular seemed really oily when I used this. Maybe only use this if you have normal-dry skin?
Other
Currently using: St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub
Tumblr media
Rating: 7/10
I use this about 3 times a week at night, and I donā€™t find it too irritating like some people say the apricot or walnut scrub is. Pretty sure the beads in here are silicone, so it doesnā€™t tear up my face. I stopped using this for a few weeks, and when I picked it back up to try and get rid of an acne flare-up, it really helped. I definitely noticed that it was doingĀ something when I went off it for a bit. Drugstore BHA (Salicylic Acid) that works for me.
Freeman Charcoal + Black Sugar Gel Mask and Scrub
Tumblr media
Rating: 4/10
Are you a scrub? Are you a mask? Make up your mind. It doesnā€™t really work as either, with a weird thick jelly texture and huge scrub beads. Only used twice, maybe Iā€™m jumping to conclusions, but even though this didnā€™t break me out or anything, it didnā€™t seem to do anything at all. Weird product.
GlamGlow Super-Clearing Mud Mask Treatment
Tumblr media
Rating: 6.5/10
For the price and with all the ingredients including a blend of AHAs, I thought this would do more. Itā€™s satisfying to watch the mask turn lighter gray as it dries on your face, but youā€™re only supposed to use it once a week, and I havenā€™t noticed results after a month. A fun mask to try, but I wonā€™t be repurchasing since itā€™s too expensive for not enough of a result.
Burtā€™s Bees Conditioning Lip Scrub
Tumblr media
Rating: 4/10
Chapstick would accomplish pretty much the same thing this does. Itā€™s hard to scrub it into your lips, since the honeyĀ ā€œbeadsā€ like to congeal into larger blobs, and itā€™s surprisingly expensive for a small little container at the drugstore. There have to be better lip scrubs out there, save your money.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with RosewaterĀ
Tumblr media
Rating: 7/10
A nice product, but I donā€™t get the hype or cult status. Good for a refreshing pick-me-up, but I donā€™t notice anything different when I donā€™t use it. Not really a setting spray, just extra hydration during the day if youā€™re into that. Good for wetting a beauty blender, though.

I love hearing from you guys and I especially love getting questions from you.Ā  Mostly because it gives me something to write about while these ho hum days of January pass.Ā  Recently Iā€™ve received queries about two things - some concern about how the olā€™ stanky ankle is holding up in Jazzercise, and what Iā€™m loving in skin care these days.Ā  Those are two questions I am happy to answer!Ā  The ankle.Ā  Ā I donā€™t think itā€™s ever going to be okay.Ā  I had the surgery, I completed physical therapy, and itā€™s as bad as it ever was - maybe worse.Ā  That said,Ā  I realized that I just have to deal with it.Ā  Iā€™m glad that itā€™s more stable now, but the pain is always there.Ā  It makes me weary.Ā  BUT I have two choices, I can sit and be in pain or I can do whatever I want and be in pain.Ā  I choose to dance, hike, travel, and just keep going.Ā  Three days a week I trot off to a class that makes me happy.Ā  We dance and laugh and have a ball.Ā  The ankle cries but the rest of my body loves it.Ā  I have a system worked out that makes it all bearable.Ā  About a half hour before I leave for class I take two ibuprofen and put a compression sleeve on my ankle to keep it from swelling too much.Ā  After class I have a nifty little ice pack with velcro that straps right around the joint.Ā  When I get home I elevate it for a bit and then I just get on with my dang day.Ā  I sometimes rub in this magic cream and it helps.
Tumblr media
A little goes a long way and takes the edge off. Iā€™ve recently started adding collagen powder to one beverage a day.Ā  This was on the advice of a friend (who happens to be a personal trainer and gym owner).Ā  There are studies that show itā€™s beneficial for joint health, and probably as many studies that show it doesnā€™t help.Ā  All I know is that it canā€™t hurt.Ā  Iā€™ve only been using it for a week so the jury is still out.Ā  This is the brand that was recommended to me, itā€™s tasteless and odorless and is no trouble at all.
Tumblr media
Ā  Rumor has it that it can also make wrinkles scram.Ā  Iā€™d rather have my ankle healed but disappearing crows feet would be a nice bonus. I picked it up on Amazon - just over $20 for a good-sized tub of powder.Ā  My fingers are crossed. Skincare! Menopause has turned my body against me.Ā  I spent a lifetime figuring out exactly what worked for me only to have all of my issues change. Arrgh!Ā  Luckily Iā€™m a product junkie and the adventure of finding new holy grail products is one Iā€™m happy to tackle.Ā  Over the last few months (and a vast amount of Sephora samples)Ā  I have found these two products to be my favorites.Ā  The beauty of it all is that theyā€™re CHEAP.
Tumblr media
This stuff is the bomb diggity, and...wait for it....itā€™s less than $7.Ā  Ā SEVENĀ , not seventy!Ā  Donā€™t let theĀ ā€œpeelingā€ description scare you - itā€™s not a chemical peel at all.Ā  Itā€™s just an exfoliator.Ā  I use it at night after washing my face and I go to bed and let it work its magic.Ā  Itā€™s good for all skin types and as sensitive as my skin is, if I can use it I think anyone can use it.Ā  Ā Hereā€™s the blurb for it: What it is: A high-strength lactic acid peeling formula for smoother, healthier-looking skin. Solutions for: - Uneven skin tone - Fine lines and wrinkles - Dullness and uneven texture If you want to know moreā€¦ This 10 percent lactic acid-enriched formulation offers mild exfoliation for smoother skin. Supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry, it reduces signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation. What it is formulated WITHOUT: - Parabens - Sulfates - Phthalates What else you need to know: This product is vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without oil, alcohol, silicone, nuts, gluten, and fragrance. I tried this because Iā€™d fallen in love with a sample of Sunday Rileyā€™s lactic acid serum.Ā  It was ridiculously expensive so I searched for something with the same ingredients at the same strength and found The Ordinary. Oh, happy day!Ā  Ā Iā€™ve used other products from The Ordinary line and loved them so I was happy to fork over my seven bucks and give it a whirl. Success! This stuff will keep your skin as smooth as a babyā€™s bum. You can find The Ordinary products at Sephora and Ulta (and probably some other places Iā€™m not aware of). Moving on.Ā  As a woman of a certain age I need a moisturizer.Ā  But as a woman with skin that gets very dramatic very quickly, I have to be careful.Ā  This lovely, light, and inexpensive formula has saved the day.
Tumblr media
Thereā€™s nothing in this potion to anger my skin. No dyes, no parabens, no oil, no fragrance, and no silicone.Ā  That fancy schmancy ā€œHungarian water essenceā€Ā  includes aloe, cucumber, and white tea. It soaks right in, no greasy feeling or slick.Ā  Iā€™m a fan.Ā  My mother has used Oil of Olay since I was a small child and she looks fantastic.Ā  There just might be something to it.Ā  This one is easy on the pocketbook as well.Ā  I think I paid $14 for my pot of magic.Ā Ā  There it is.Ā  Iā€™m working on my bones and skin.Ā  My guts are fine, knock on wood.Ā  The brain is up for debate, but my soul is in good shape.Ā  Itā€™s all good. Take a few minutes today to do something nice for yourself. Something that shows a bit of self-care. Maybe a new moisturizer, maybe some lovely, scented bath bombs, maybe just a pretty bottle of nail polish.Ā  Treat yourself.Ā  We can all use a boost now and then.Ā  We give so much to everyone in our lives, give a little love to yourself. OverĀ Ā the next few days I have a couple of new recipes to share, and maybe some creative endeavors to share as well.Ā  Life is pretty darn good here on the Pullen spread, no complaints.Ā  I hope that wherever you are youā€™ve got something to be happy about and something to look forward to - XOXO

At 35, I Started Caring About My Skin ā€” Hereā€™s My Routine
Tumblr media
The hardest thing about traveling so often is keeping a regular, healthy diet and a skincare routine compatible with TSA requirements and my aging self. I recently turned 36, and Iā€™m embarrassed to admit I didnā€™t truly get serious about caring for my skin until about 18 months ago. That said, better late than never (right? RIGHT?), so I put together this play-by-play of how to maintain a skincare routine in your 30sā€”and, in particular, how I keep it up while on the road.
But first, it must be said, I amĀ notĀ a doctor, a dermatologist or an aesthetician (clearly). You should absolutely see one (or all) of the above before doing anything drastic with your own skin. I do have a great derm, Dr. Lorien Sites at Nashville Skin, who I see once a year for skin checks and preventative cancer screenings and an aesthetician in Nashville, Mallory Hamilton at Woo Cosmetics, as well as one in Manchester, Megan Hershman of Be Well Skin, who I go to for professional facials and waxing. That said, I can only afford so many such treatments, so Iā€™ve learned what I can do on my own and what I need to leave to the pros.
Tumblr media
And it happens to be my favorite time of year: the Sephora VIB sale! I tend to stock up on all the products I need during this sale for 11 days every April and November. Itā€™s the perfect excuse to try out a bevy of new products as there are 10 to 20 percent discounts throughout the course of 11 days, in addition to all sorts of freebies and perks.
Note: This post is in no way sponsored by Sephora, though I did include affiliate links when applicable below. I purchased every beauty product I featured below through Sephora (or Ulta if I canā€™t find it at my first-choice shop) and have stopped buying actual skincare products via Amazon. Why? Read this.
My Daytime Routine
After going overboard with products to start and creating blackheads for the first time in my life as a result, this is now what I do in the morning now. I donā€™t double-cleanse every single day, as I donā€™t wear makeup and my skin is already sensitive, so the second step is just an occasional add depending on how my skin is feeling that day. Itā€™s always a trial-and-error with what works for you, though Iā€™ve found a lot of helpful tips via beauty guru Caroline Hirons over the years. I also often defer to thisĀ New York Times piece on building a skincare routine when Iā€™m feeling overwhelmed and sifting through the black hole of skincare recommendations that is the Internet.
Step 1: Rinse my face with warm water and a cleanser like this Algenist one
Step 2: Double cleanse with an exfoliating product like Tatchaā€™s Deep CleanseĀ (optional)
Step 3: Apply Tarte Knockout Tingling Treatment as a toner (I donā€™t do this every day)
Step 4: Splash my face with Freshā€™s Black Tea Kombucha Antioxidant Essence to ward off pollutants
Step 5: Apply a layer of Drunk Elephant Day Serum
Step 6: Apply Supergoop SPF and an additional thin coat of moisturizer if needed (i.e. if my skin is dry)
Go about my day!
Iā€™ve tried to be better about wearing SPF every single day, even if I donā€™t think Iā€™m going out in the sun. My bestie Lemon turned me onto Supergoop! products a couple years ago, and those are my go-to for days I know Iā€™ll be outside at some point. Plus, I love that it comes in a 1.7-ounce bottle, so I can keep it in my carry-on and reapply as needed. Back home, I have a massive tube of Le Roche-Posayā€™s Anthelios SPF, a line my makeup artist friend Brenna introduced me to a few years ago (and one you can now find at your local pharmacy like Walgreens), that I apply when running or working in the yard.
I have combination skin that errs on the oily side, so wonā€™t use a moisturizer during the day unless itā€™s winter (or allergy season like now) and my skin is feeling tight and itchy. In that case, Iā€™m a big fan of Little Seed Farmā€™s Goatā€™s Milk Moisturizer, which is a nearby Tennessee brand I purchase locally from Krogerā€™s but has a website from which you can order if you arenā€™t local. I also love Tatchaā€™s Water Cream, and itā€™s a bonus that itā€™s a clean product, too (slowly making the switch to mostly products that are certified clean).
Keeping my products organized and ready to use step-by-step has been a lot easier in the new house as we actually have bathroom space and closets here. I like to keep everything where I can see it so I can survey what I have in stock, so I loved addingĀ this rotating beauty organizer I got on Amazon for just $26 to my new bathroom. I also have a variety of Container Store and STORi plastic bins like this one that I use to organize my overflow and hair products in my bathroom closet.
Tumblr media
Using Face Masks
Since I work from home, I often do a mask once or twice a week midday and have all my skincare products readily available and have liked splashing this Fresh essence on my face throughout the day when I need a boost. Iā€™m constantly trying new ones, but here are a few of my favorites:
RENā€™s Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (I use this peel once a week and itā€™s glorious)
Sephora Collection Face Masks (I prefer the coconut, pearl and lychee)
TONYMOLY Sheet Masks (for $3.75 a pop, you canā€™t beat the price)
My Nighttime Routine
One thing to note is that figuring out what works for you takesĀ time. Donā€™t introduce everything at once, otherwise you wonā€™t know whatā€™s working and whatā€™s not. For example, the Pixie Glow Tonic from Target beauty bloggers rave about? Only made my skin break out and become more red in complexion. I immediately took it out of my rotation and started testing out different Vitamin C and brightening serums instead.
Wash with a deep cleanser (I like various Peter Thomas Roth products)
Apply a serum (Sunday Riley Vitamin C or Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos)
Apply a retinol (currently using Drunk Elephantā€™s A-Passioni)
Apply an eye cream (I havenā€™t found one I love but currently am using Drunk Elephantā€™s that came in a set)
Apply a night cream (see below for my thoughts on this)
Between each step, I make sure the product has properly soaked in before I add the next layer. Rule of thumb if you canā€™t remember which order to apply is: lightest to heaviest. My night cream or moisturizer depends on how thirsty my skin is (I used to not use one, but now Iā€™m trying to reverse deep forehead wrinkles without Botox so use one religiously). My go-to is Belifā€™s Aqua Bomb, particularly in the drier months like winter, but I really love Farmacyā€™s Sleep Tight quenches my skin but doesnā€™t make me wake up feeling oily.
I alsoĀ finallyĀ started using a silk pillowcase, the Slip pillowcase beloved by bloggers everywhere, and Iā€™m kind of mad my mom has used one her entire life and never enforced it upon me because it does help protect both your skin andĀ your hair. And as someone with crazy wavy hair, I can actually straighten it one day, sleep on the silk pillowcase and wake up to itĀ notĀ a mess for a change.
In terms of toning and skin-brightening, friends of mine swear by Karen Hayes Estheticsā€™ Koji pads, and I finally dropped $160 on a pack and ā€¦ was extremely underwhelmed. I used them religiously for the recommended 60 days and saw no change in my skin tone. That said, I didnā€™t actually go in to see the esthetician firstā€”rather, I filled out the survey onlineā€”so maybe I needed a stronger prescription? I donā€™t know. In a world of abundant skincare options, I donā€™t think Iā€™d drop the money to re-try this one. Iā€™m getting more religious about using a toner and Vitamin C serum instead.
After a decade of using retinol from my derm, Iā€™ve been using OTC retinol products for the past year after my skin went ballistic with an allergic reaction the last time I tried medical-grade products. Iā€™m due for my annual skin checkup with my derm soon, so Iā€™m going to ask her to prescribe me a new retinolā€”not because my skin breaks out regularly, but because I have deep forehead lines that need reversing (I laugh a lot, what can I say?) and Iā€™m just not into the idea of Botox (no judgment if you are). For those who donā€™t need as strong a retinol, I do like Drunk Elephantā€™s A-Passioni Retinol Cream and also Algenistā€™s Retinol Serum.
Drunk Elephant products are pricey, so Iā€™d recommend you go with a sampler kit like this one before investing in the full-sized products to see what you like. But Iā€™m fully on that bandwagon now, as Iā€™ve been using them for nearly a year, and my skin feels so clean and fresh daily (plus, their products are non-irritating and non-toxic).
When I Travel, Hereā€™s My Beauty Kit
My friend Christie, to whom I also go for skincare tips, made me envious of how organized her beauty kit always is, so I threw out my old caddy and bought this hanging organizer instead. I keep it hanging in my bathroom and each section is organized by theme: first aid (Band-Aids, medicine, prescriptions, etc.), dental hygiene, shampoo and conditioner, hair products and skincare. Itā€™s always ready to go when I need to pack my suitcase, and this way, I never forget anything, which I was inevitably doing before. I also now use this little $8 seven-day pill organizer for my prescriptions, which has reduced the chance of me forgetting one bottle since Iā€™m on so many daily allergy meds.
Tumblr media
For this, I typically use Sephora samples I get when Iā€™m stocking up orĀ I buy mini-kits of products I use that are under three ounces. Nothing will get me to check a bag when I travel, so I find itā€™s always easier to be prepared. Some kits of minis Iā€™ve used and love:
Algenist Discovery Kit (which includes the retinol, a serum, an eye cream and more)
Drunk Elephantā€™s The Littles (which includes a small version of every one of the products I use of theirs)
Tatcha Pore-Perfecting Duo (I use this for my cleanser and moisturizer when traveling)
What You Eat DOES Matter
Doing food elimination diets for my autoimmune disease means that Iā€™ve seen firsthand how my skin reacts to certain foods, dairy in particular. And while we are mostly dairy-free day-to-dayā€”we long ago, started making our own almond, cashew and coconut milkā€”neither one of us is one to turn down sour cream or cheese, and if Iā€™m at a fancy coffee shop, Iā€™ll occasionally opt for real creamer as opposed to oat milk or cashew substitute.
But if Iā€™m consuming dairy or sugar on the regular, you better believe my skin reflects it. I get large breakouts around my mouth and jawline, and itā€™s just not pretty. Again, Iā€™m a big fan of these cheap, but totally efficient Nexcare acne patches to get ride of isolated breakouts quickly (note: this is the only beauty product I buy via Amazon as my local Walgreens doesnā€™t carry itā€”but yours might). You canā€™t beat $6 a box! Target also carries the CosRx brand ($5 for 18) that beauty bloggers swear by.
Dermaplaning
Iā€™ve had professional dermaplaning three times, and little has given my skin quite the glow as removing all the peach fuzz and dead skin cells. I absolutely love the effect of dermaplaning, but the problem is that it only lasts about two weeks (at least for me), and it isĀ notĀ cheap. Instead, these days I do weekly at-home dermaplaning with a variety of tools:
Stacked Skincare dermaplaning tool
Level Setter Razors
Tinkle Hair Removal Razors
Stacked is by far the most efficient, but itā€™s also very sharp, so proceed with caution. The $10 drugstore brands work fine to just get your face smoother for applying serums and creams; not having that layer of fuzz and dead skin definitely helps your products soak in more (and your makeup to go on more smoothly if youā€™re a daily makeup-wearer).
Microblading & Your Brows
So far Iā€™ve yet to find a brow-grow product that fills in the patchy parts of the brows I overplucked in my teen years. Ladies,Ā whyĀ did we not listen to our mothers? *face palm*
Iā€™ve tried Shisheido, Rapid Brow and Sephoraā€”none of which have done anything for me. I finally ordered the two-part GrandeBrow Brow and Lash Enhancing Serums from Sephora, and still nothing. One eyebrow got thicker, Iā€™ll give it that, but the problem brow stayed, well, problematic. So, if you have an effective eyebrow serum, help a girl out, will you? Iā€™m thinking of asking my derm for a Latisse prescription next time Iā€™m in as nothing OTC seems to work.
I wouldĀ loveĀ to try microblading, and honestly was going to do it years ago until I found out you have to get touch-ups once to twice a year. While Iā€™m OK paying $500 for something that has a semi-permanent effect, paying $500 and then hundreds of dollars for touch-ups every quarter or bi-annually is just an investment Iā€™m not ready to make yet (plus, the thought of getting my brows tattooed freaks SVV out to no end). But if you have thoughts on microblading or success stories, please let me know in the comments!

BLACK FRIDAY BEAUTY SALES TO MAKE YOUR WALLETā€¦SING? SOB?
Image borrowed from Getty Images until I can find another
According to the Retail Council of Canada, 43% of Canadians are planning to purchase something on this borrowed-from-the-USA day, Black Friday. Itā€™s also the biggest shopping day of the year in Canada, and although its craziness makes me want to stay in bed, it makes so much freaking sense: itā€™s exactly the right time to do all your holiday shopping. Not only does it mean you save on gift-giving, youā€™ve got a month if you need to return or exchange anything. (Props for knowing all that already, US-based friends!)
Thanks for watching!Visit Website
Actually, if youā€™re Canadian, has this all-in-on-Black-Friday phenomenon fully caught on with you? Have you shifted your holiday shopping habits to participate? Or, as is for many of us with Boxing Day sales (apparently 34% of Canadians expect to shop those), is this retail extravaganza more about stocking up on necessities with a side of luxuries-at-a-discount?
And just for fun, did you know that for the last seven years NASAā€™s nod to Black Friday has been ā€œBlack Hole Friday,ā€ a day of sharing black-hole images and info?
Thanks for watching!Visit Website
Thanks for watching!Visit Website
where to shop black-friday beauty
Some of these sales are Friday specific, but many will go through into Cyber Monday, whether they say so nowĀ or announce it on the weekend, so itā€™s worth checking the sites again for more deals at the start of the week. (So many of us shop online nowā€¦ do we really even NEED Cyber Monday any more?)
AMAZON CANADA has all kinds of Black Friday deals as they always have on Black Friday, and theyā€™ll definitely have Cyber Monday sales as well. But I find the site so frustrating to navigate that I just look for what I want, and if it isnā€™t on sale, I donā€™t buy it right away. That said, I didĀ notice that this year the Philips DiamondClean Classic Rechargeable Electric ToothbrusheĀ ($139.99 CAD at amazon.ca)Ā is $100 off ā€“ thatā€™s a 42% discount, and pretty amazing. Iā€™ve had one of these toothbrushes for years (itā€™s still going strong)Ā and I love it.
Of note is that Amazon Canada is helping the Toronto Fire Fighterā€™s Toy Drive and the Childrenā€™s Aid Foundation of Canada by facilitating the no-effort donation of gifts and toys to less fortunate kids this holiday season. While you shop, stop on this page to select the charity and something to purchase as a donation. Easy!
BITE BEAUTY is continuing with their 75%-off business, except for Black Friday itā€™s a sitewide discount with the code BLACKFRIDAY. Theyā€™ve also added a 5-piece GWP (with a great lip-print zippered pouch) for orders that hit $40 or more.
The Body Shop and The Body Shop Canada ā€“ no advent calendars, but thereā€™s a Black Friday toteā€¦
THE BODY SHOP is offering 40% off everything (except holiday gift sets) in store and online; holiday gift sets are 25% off. And no, you wonā€™t snag an advent calendar, unfortunately. Theyā€™re all sold out on the Canadian and US websites. However, do check out the Black Friday Tote ($49 CAD and $49 USD at thebodyshop.com), which is stuffed with $141 CAD/$128 USD-worth of stuff.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY has added new products to the 30%-off sale on the brandā€™s website. Many are sets, duos or trios; a couple of them include four or five items. Also on sale is a variety of accessories, including cel phone cases and totes.
DYSON CANADAĀ is offering free accessories and (in Canada) a very cool stand with each Dyson Supersonic ($499.99 CAD at dysoncanada.com and $399.99 USD at dyson.com)Ā purchase through December 2nd. Specifically for Black Friday weekend, Dyson is also offering up to $200 CAD/$250 USD off certain vacuum cleaners, fans and humidifiers.
GLOSSIERĀ is offering 20% off all the things, and up to 35% off all its sets. I mention it because I want to try Brow Flick ($22 CAD and $18 USD at glossier.com)Ā and may already have put a Black and a Brown in a virtual cart. (Yes, itā€™s much more expensive than the Ardell Stroke-A-Brow Pens, but Glossier wonā€™t charge shipping if I spend more than $40. Shipping from Sally Beauty Supply in the US makes my Ardell expenses about the same as my potential Glossier spend. At least thatā€™s what Iā€™m telling myself today, because the Glossier discount means I have to buy a third item or pay $8 CAD to get free shipping.)
INDEED LABS is offering 50% off everything online until midnight, no code required. Worth trying if you arenā€™t familiar is Hydraluron hydrating serum (Iā€™ve been a fan since it first came out); Exfoliator II Facial Powder Exfoliant (powder with a decent amount of biodegradeable scrubby ingredients), a new formula that replaces the previous version that contained microbeads; and the Hydraluron+ Volumising Lip Treatment, one of my favourite lip balms.
IT COSMETICS is more generously offering 25% off with the code FRIDAY2019Ā on its Canadian site; spend $100 or more and youā€™ll get four new samples worth $64 CAD. In the US, the brand is offering 20% off with the code THANKFUL. The It Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF 50 (comes in 12 shades now) is still my top go-to for foundation. I know a few lovely friends of Beautygeeks experience disappointing on-skin oxidization with this formula, but it stays pretty true on me and always, always makes people think I have a nice complexion.
Shoppers Drug Mart Black Friday beauty deals
NYX COSMETICS in Canada and the USA is offering 30% off everything online (except holiday stuff) and 50% of select items, plus a GWP of mini lip colour, mascara and makeup sponge when you hit $40.
Lā€™OCCITANE is featuring 50% off their two Doorbuster Beauty Sets: each set of six travel sizes comes with a very pretty zippered case, all for $25. Gift sets appear to be 30% off, too. On top of that, if you spend more than $100, you score a gift-worthy 7-piece Beauty Essentials set, and if you spend more than $190, youā€™ll get instead an even-more-gift-worthy upgraded Bestsellers set.
RIVERSOL is a Canadian, pH-balanced and fragrance-free skincare line designed by dermatologist Jason Rivers for people with rosacea. Details on the line and its key ingredients plus info on how to get a free 10-day trial kitĀ are in this post. If youā€™ve tried the products and like them, you need to know that until midnight youā€™ll save 30% on your next order if you use the codeĀ 2R83CT7Sā€‹. The site serves Canada and the USA; shipping is free when you spend $69 or more.
SALLY BEAUTY is offering a bunch of different ways to save, including deals youā€™ll get with the use of various numeric codes; I find it a bit dizzying, actually. I only buy Ardell Stroke-A-Brow pens there because shipping-to-Canada costs sting so much. (Havenā€™t found a Canadian online retailer yet. Probably worth checking on nowā€¦)
SEPHORA Canada has a variety of little sets available for $25 or less each, plus an up-to-50%-off sale section that hopefully is as robust as it looks (if only you could tell without clicking on the imageĀ whether something is sold out!). The Lanolin 101 Ointment Fruities Duo ($22 CAD at sephora.com; not available as a duo in the US)Ā is great; the formula is lanolin + lanolin oil so itā€™s a bit less sticky than pure lanolin, and worth trying if youā€™re currently traumatized over the tragic demise of Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask (R.I.P.).
SEPHORAĀ in the US has a $15-sets thing, plus the up-to-50%-off sale section.
SHOPPERS DRUG MART applies only to Canadians ā€“ apologies to our US-based friends. But theyā€™ve got good stuff and theyā€™re everywhere here, so itā€™s worth mentioning that with a spend of $75 or more on makeup, skincare or fragrance, youā€™ll get 20X the PC Optimum points. The rest is a variety of deals specific either to the brands or to particular products. For instance, thereā€™s a 25% discount on Clarisonic tools ā€“ itā€™s a great time to buy the Mia Smart, my fave because it fits the Clarisonic massage-head. (I only use my Clarisonic Mia Smart for facial massage.) As well, youā€™ll find a Biotherm 24-day Beauty Advent Calendar that is now $79 CAD, down $20 (value $225CAD).
ULTA is another one that offers a whack of ways to save on Black Friday. It also carries the Ardell brow pens I like; I donā€™t know why Iā€™m not buying them here. Oh wait, I remember: they were out of one of the shades I wanted, Soft Black or Medium Brown. *curses*
Vichy Mineral 89 is on sale at vichy.ca right this minute
VICHY CANADAĀ is included here because Iā€™m so fond of Vichy Mineral 89. The sale is $25% off sitewide with the code FRIDAY, plus youā€™ll get a 9-piece gift worth $91 and free shipping if you hit or pass the $75-mark. As for Vichy Mineral 89, the 50 mL ($29.96 CAD down from $35.95)Ā and the 75 mL ($37.46 CAD, down from $49.95 CAD) are both on sale. Today only.
VICHYĀ in the US offers a personalized 5-piece GWP + free shipping with a $49 USD spend.
WELL.CA offers 75% off more than 1000 items, and various deals on various products, including a 30 mL Consonant HydrExtreme Hydration BoosterĀ ($64.80 down from $72) and a Consonant Skin Renewal Set ($26.38 at well.ca) worth $70. Damn, I wish they carried Ardell Stroke A Brow pens! They ship to the US, btw, free over a certain amount.
over to you

I was thinking about doing my top skincare of 2017 and then I realized it was essentially my skincare routine so I thought I would share. And I honestly thought I posted this whole blog about two months ago, but as I went to go link to it, I realized it was still in my drafts. Whoops. But hey ā€“ at least I didnā€™t have to write a blog today. Thanks, Past Lauren.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Morning Cleanser I honestly do not have a consistent morning cleanser. When Iā€™m washing my face at the gym, I tend to rotate subscription box samples. Right now, Iā€™m really liking the Tatcha The Deep Cleanse, which I got from a Sephora gift with purchase. However, Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™m going to buy the full-size. Tatcha is expensive, yā€™all.
Evening Cleansers For the majority of 2017 (and I think even part of 2016), I have been ride or die for the Julep Love Your Bare Face Cleansing Oil ($22.40/Maven Price but you can also get it at Ulta for $28). I will use this to sort of melt off my face and some of my eye makeup.
After that, I move into Glossierā€™s Milky Jelly ($18) to get the rest of my skin clean since the makeup was removed by the oil.
I tend to wear a lot of eye makeup (shocks no one) so I usually have to follow this up with a makeup wipe to take care of the residual mascara and liner. I tend to either get the Neutrogena Makeup Removing Towelettes ($6.99) and the generic Target version of those. I was using the Face Halo like Jill, but I found that it was hard for me to get the Face Halo around the contours of my eye, which is where I have the most trouble removing makeup. So I ended up stopping using them after awhile, and went back to the wipes. I know they are wasteful, but thatā€™s where we are.
Essence I didnā€™t start out using an essence. I actually got the Amore Pacific Vintage Single Extract Essence ($145) by accident, because I received it when I was supposed to receive a Tatcha product in a box. Jill has been trying to get me to use essences forever and now of course I like one that is $150. THAT IS TOO MUCH MONEY. So while it is def something I have been using daily for the past several months, Iā€™m not sure if this is something I will purchase a full-size version of. I mean, I am def not going to purchase a full-size version of it. Iā€™m thinking about trying a small size of the Tatcha essence to see if I like that at all. That one is also expensive but still not AS expensive and the small version is BASICALLY free. (Not free at all, but itā€™s in this set which I am going to get. Again ā€“ Not free. Money is hard.)
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Morning Serum This past year, I got back into Vitamin C serums for day-to-day, and I have been super into the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum ($80). I am also now using the Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum that I got in my January Allure Beauty Box, but I have been using the Drunk Elephant version longer. So Iā€™ll be real with you: it smells like hot dogs. It does not have a good scent. But that is OK. I would rather my skin smell like science than flowers, ya know?
Evening Serum If youā€™ve been here awhile, you KNOW my fave is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II ($95). Longest. Name. Ever. I will forever be indebted to this serum for really repairing my skin when I was dealing with some really awful cystic acne that was caused by a variety of fun hormonal issues I had a few years ago. Then, I picked at the situation and made it way worse. I tried all sorts of different products and this was sort of a last resort and honestly, OVERNIGHT, I saw a huge difference. I was in shock. I donā€™t believe in ā€œovernightā€ fixes. I understand the marketing game of the beauty industry, so I donā€™t believe in miracles but this was truly a miracle product.
I also started using The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% HA 2% in December. Iā€™m not sure Iā€™m seeing any major differences quite yet but Iā€™m using it a couple times a week instead of the Estee Lauder. I decided to get it because itā€™s $6.79 (yes, you read that right) whereas a serum by Sunday Riley with similar ingredients is $105. Itā€™s obviously not exactly the same but I thought this would be a good way to start experimenting with lactic acid quite inexpensively.
Eye Cream 2017 was the year I discovered the incredibly bougie La Mer The Eye Balm Intense ($205). Itā€™s esspensive. So expensive, yā€™all. But it lasted me a really, really long time. I am almost out of the one jar I purchased last year and it pains me to think I need to get another one soon. But it works. It really made my crows feet/ fine lines less apparent (even before I experimented with Botox) and will be a product I will repurchase for sure. I donā€™t really care for the La Mer face cream at this point in my life, but the eye cream is bomb.
Moisturizers I honestly rotate through a variety of moisturizers. I think I am going to write a future blog about these, so I can go thru each one and why I like them all! Stay tuned!
[line]
So thatā€™s it for now! What are some of your holy grail skincare items that you think I should check out in 2018? Do you have any miracle products that I should know about? Let me know in the comments below!
Ā  Laurenā€™s Top Skincare of 2017/Current SkincareĀ Routine I was thinking about doing my top skincare of 2017 and then I realized it was essentially my skincare routine so I thought I would share.

Kate Somerville Age Arrest Review (UPDATED 2017): Donā€™t Buy Before You Read This!
Kate Somerville Age Arrest is an eye cream designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, while visibly firming and tightening the skin. This formula promises lasting hydration, along with a reduction in puffiness and dark circles.
Kate Somerville Age Arrest gains most of its benefits an ingredient based on telomere research. It also contains a long list of skin-friendly ingredients from red algae to chrysanthemum extract and hyaluronic acid.
Kremovage is our expertsā€™ number one choice in eye creams. This product is made with a blend of plant extracts, chock full of nutrients, along with ocean-based retinol, peptides, and plant-based oils that hydrate and repair. Click here to read more about using Kremovage to tackle unwanted age spots, crowā€™s feet and loose skin.
Do You Know the Best Eye Creams of 2017 ?
Kate Somerville Age Arrest Ingredients and Side Effects
Kate Somerville Age Arrest contains several ingredients that promise to fight the signs of aging, puffiness and more. Here is a list of the most active components you can expect to see in this product:
Laminaria Kelp Potent Deep Ocean Red Algae Algae Plasma Sea Whip Extract Squalane Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract Hyaluronic Acid Diamond Powder
Laminaria Kelp: A brown seaweed rich in antioxidants and phenols, this ingredient helps ward off the effects of free radicals in the skin.
Potent Deep Ocean Red Algae: Red algae is rich in amino acids, which serve as the building blocks for essential proteins, including elastin and collagen.
Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract: Also known as golden chamomile, this ingredient works to reduce inflammation and redness.
Sea Whip Extract: An extract sourced from a coral reef-dwelling creature, this ingredient is thought to soothe the skin and treat and prevent acne.
Squalane: A skin-friendly oil with anti-aging properties, squalane provides moisture and sun protection.
Hyaluronic Acid: A substance used to keep skin, joints, and eyeballs lubricated, hyaluronic acid helps the skin hang on to moisture, giving it a plumper, more youthful appearance and diminishing visible wrinkles and fine lines.
Diamond Powder: Crushed diamonds used for a shimmering effect. Diamonds reflect light away from the eye, creating the illusion of a brighter, more luminous under-eye area.
Algae Plasma: Algae plasma is thought to have a firming effect on the skin.

Kate Somerville Age Arrest Quality of Ingredients
The product page for Kate Somerville Age Arrest presents a compelling case for this particular formula. Site visitors can look at the results of a clinical studyā€”though thereā€™s no link to the official dataā€”which breaks down the results women saw after using the product for four weeks.
According to the data we actually get to see, 80% of women who participated in the study saw a reduction in under eye circles and 77% percent saw an improvement in the appearance of crowā€™s feet.
Whatā€™s also notable is the addition of the Telo-5 technology, which leverages the findings of the Nobel Prize-winning telomere research. Telomeres are the end caps of DNA strands and their length may play a key role in our longevity.
On top of that the product contains a number of plant extracts and algae. This product appears to be rich in antioxidants, as well as known hydration support like squalane and hyaluronic acid.
The formula looks pretty good, though it appears to be missing things like retinol and peptides that would further add to the anti-aging effect.
In all, this product doesnā€™t contain anything harmfulā€”though itā€™s worth pointing out that titanium dioxide and diamond powderā€”used to deflect light from the eye area for a brighter lookā€”irritate some peopleā€™s eyes.
Itā€™s also worth pointing out that weā€™re not sure diamond powder is worth the priceā€”itā€™s typically added as a marketing tactic to increase perceived value.
Click here to learn more about treating loose skin ā€” start rebuilding that collagen supply ASAP.
EDITORā€™S TIP: Combine this product with a proven eye cream such as Kremovage for better results.
The Price and Quality of Kate Somerville Age Arrest
Kate Somerville Age Arrest is available for sale through the official Kate Somerville website. The product costs $75 for a tube containing 0.5 ounces of eye cream.
Users can find this product at a variety of department stores, as well as through channels like Ulta and Sephora. Unfortunately, this product does not appear to discounted on any of the third-party platforms. Even Amazon is currently selling this item for the full $75.
This product is a little on the expensive side, but Kate Somerville is a reputable company, one with a pretty large following of loyal users willing to spend a few extra bucks on a high-quality eye cream.
Some reviewers have mentioned this product comes out in larger quantities than needed for the under eye area, so you may want to be careful when using the pump to get more mileage out of the product.
Read our guide to finding a quality skincare regimen on a budget ā€” more info when you click this link.
Business of Kate Somerville Age Arrest
Kate Somerville Age Arrest is made by Kate Somervilleā€”a manufacturer of skincare products.
Kate Somerville is a Los Angeles-based dermatologist that started her own skincare line. She uses natural ingredients in her products, as she has personal experience with eczema and found that goatā€™s milk, in particular, worked to soothe her skin when nothing else was working.
The business of Kate Somerville is twofoldā€”she owns and operates a skincare clinic in LA, and sells products both direct to consumers through an e-commerce platform, as well as third-party retailers.
The official website is clean and easy to use. It provides more information than many competing websitesā€”citing clinical trials, bullet points about key ingredients, and making it easy to view the full product label for each item.
Customer Opinions of Kate Somerville Age Arrest
Kate Somerville Age Arrest has decent reviews from previous users. Some people claimed this product worked wonder s for their crowā€™s feet, but most people who liked the product claimed the brightening effect was what made this formula special. It could be the diamond extract, after all.
Other users felt the product didnā€™t yield enough of the advertised benefits to warrant the $75 price tag. Here are some of the comments we found while learning about this eye cream:
ā€œThis product is pretty great. Itā€™s soft and smooth and it doesnā€™t make my eyes water. Love the illuminating effect. Hope it continues to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.ā€
ā€œThis product used to be better. The past couple of times Iā€™ve bought it, it was a little too watery or something. I feel like itā€™s kind of a waste of money for me. I probably wonā€™t buy it again.ā€
ā€œItā€™s okay. Iā€™ve been using this for about a month and have to say, it smells great and has a nice, silky consistency, but Iā€™m a little disappointed in the lack of meaningful results.ā€
ā€œI got several packets of this product from a trip to Sephora and have been using it for the past couple weeks. So far, Iā€™m impressed. My eyes look brighter and more awake. Iā€™ll definitely buy when the samples run out.ā€
Reviews had a positive slant, overall, though weā€™re not entirely sure what we found justified the price point. Users had varying degrees of success with this product and several mentioned that this particular eye cream wasnā€™t as high quality of some of Kate Somervilleā€™s other offerings.
Click here to look through our favorite reviews of the year ā€” more when you visit our website.
Conclusion ā€“ Does Kate Somerville Age Arrest Work?
Kate Somerville Age Arrest has some potential to be a good cream for a number of users. But, itā€™s a little expensive and doesnā€™t seem to be a good fit for everyone who tried it.
Kate Somerville Age Arrest has a pretty impressive-sounding formulaā€”especially when you consider the incorporation of telomere researchā€”which has been getting some buzz over the past few years for its potential to reduce some of the more noticeable effects of aging ranging from gray hair to lifespan.
But, despite all its promise, Kate Somerville Age Arrest, isnā€™t a perfect solution. Some people felt it didnā€™t do anything for them, and the bulk of the positive reviews we found seemed to reference the creamā€™s ability to brighten the eyesā€”likely more a result of the diamond powder, not any restorative properties.
Itā€™s also worth pointing out that weā€™ve seen several comments claiming that this product isnā€™t as potent or effective as other products within Kate Somervilleā€™s line.
Kremovage is the under-eye solution youā€™ve all been waiting for. Our reviewers have found that this cream gives you the most bang for your buck when it comes to firming, lifting and brightening up your skin. With a combination of fruit extracts, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and others, this formula is the potent fix for all your eye woes.
Kremovage was made for users with all different skin types. The formula is cruelty-free and made without using any harsh chemicals or preservatives. Click here to visit the Kremovage website ā€” learn how this product can transform your under-eye skin.

Skincare Routine
Heeyoooo, Pavos. So it's been a minute since I've been on here. To be honest, January is my least favorite month. Ā The weather is usually lame (unless there is snow!), and I just feel like it's slow. Ā There isn't much to look forward too, and it kinda puts me in a slump. Ā Lately, my weekends have been packed, so when I do have down time, I'm trying to play catchup on things that need to get done. Ā I'm usually pretty good about posting to tha gram, but it's harder for me to do blog posts. I had worked so hard on an earlier post, but it ended up being too behind the times and frustrating, so I bagged it altogether. Ā  Instead, I'm coming at you today with my newly updated skincare routine, and I hope you enjoy!
Ā  Ā  So skincare is my ish, has been since I was in high school. Ā Through research and growing up, I've learned how important taking care of your skin is, and I'd love to share with y'all how I keep mine in shape. Ā People always think I'm younger than I actually am, but that won't automatically keep my skin young as I age. Ā This past year, I became dissatisfied with my old routine, and needed to switch things up. My skin is combination, which means my T-zone is more oily, and the surrounding areas are normal-dry. Below I'll discuss my morning and night routine, and why I love each product I'm using!
Morning:
Cleanser: Bare Minerals Trio - I started off using "Clay Chameleon", and then bought this trio at Christmas time. Ā To me, a morning cleanser doesn't need to be anything too fancy or special. I just need something that will take off any excess residue from the night before without stripping my skin too much. These cleansers came in smaller sizes so that the consumer could test each one, which of course, lured me in. I liked "Clay Chameleon", but wanted to try the others, so this worked well for me.
Toner: Pixi Glow Tonic - Obviously, this is just a baby sample, but I first picked it up to make sure the product didn't irritate my sensitive skin. I've since purchased the "Glow To Go" Glow Tonic pre-moistened pads, and I love them! Ā These have glycolic acid in them, which helps to exfoliate your face in a gentle way. Ā I have blackheads and large pores, so this is essential to my skincare regimen. One of my goals for 2017 is to really tackle my blackheads and keep my pores clear, so I'll keep y'all updated on my progress!
Moisturizer: Pond's Clarant B3 lotion: Ā This lotion was given to me by my bae's mom because she didn't like it. I used to have a sample size and I knew it worked on my skin, so I snatched it up. Ā This cream helps to eliminate or fade dark spots and scars. Ā I don't have a ton of acne scars, nor do I get rad zits very often, but this helps fade any discoloration I may have. Ā The smell is minimal and clean, and the lotion leaves my face feeling moisturized, but not greasy.
Eye Cream: 100% Pure Caffeine Eye Cream - I got a lil sample of this in my old Birchbox subscription and immediately fell in love! It smells like chocolate, and works well for dark circles. Ā I have since purchased a full size. Ā Some people may not want to use an eye cream in the morning, but because I bake my under-eyes and I have dark circles, I need it. Ā
Night:
Cleanser - Yes to Coconut: Cream Cleanser - I used to have the Yes to Coconut Moringa Seed Oil Cleanser, but I switched when I started running out. I still have a smidge of it left, but I couldn't find it when I went back to Target. Ā The new cream cleanser is essentially the same, just a different formula. Ā The older formula is incredible at "melting off" your makeup (it's on the packaging), so just for info, I'll tell y'all how I used it. Ā I would apply it dry to my face and really work it in. The formula was greasy, so it spread well. Ā Then I'd rinse it off, and voila! Ā My face was clean as a whistle. Ā The cream cleanser works much in the same way, but I don't usually use it dry. It tends to need a bit of water to work it up. Ā Both left my face feeling clean, but also very hydrated.
Toner - Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - This is another one of those things I wanted to try for my pores. The BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) helps clear pores, redness, wrinkles, and diminish pore-size. Ā I read some reviews online that it was irritating, so when I ordered it, I also ordered some lil samples. (Side perk: PC has everything in sample form, so you can try anything) Ā I figured I'd use the samples to ensure I didn't have a reaction. Ā If it had irritated my skin, I could have returned the unopened full size. Ā Within the first couple days of using this, I noticed that my skin seemed brighter and smoother. Ā It did dry out areas on my forehead, so I made sure to heavily moisturize at night. Ā I'll have to do a 3-4 month update, because my pores are going to take awhile.
Moisturizer: St. Ive's Timeless Skin: Ā This stuff is the bomb. It retails for around $5 dollars at Walmart, and smells fresh. Ā The formula isn't super heavy, but it does a great job of keeping my skin hydrated. Ā The collagen and elastin help with anti-aging and wrinkles, two things I'm paranoid about. Ā I decided to try this after having seen another beauty blogger rave about it, and I'm so glad I did. Ā For the price, you get an amazing amount of product, and it works!
Exfoliator: St. Ive's Green Tea Blackhead Scrub - I've had samples of this a few times, but never really thought to buy it. I always liked it, but I had some other full size exfoliator on hand. Ā A few months ago, I purchased a Yes To Grapefruit exfoliating cleanser, and was honestly disappointed. Ā That spurred me to go ahead and buy this one because I remembered how I'd liked it before. Ā The ingredients are all natural, it does an amazing job exfoliating without being too harsh, and it smells yummy! Ā I'm really glad I decided to go in on this product, because it has proved to be a favorite. I use it about twice a week to slough off any dead skin, and it works like a dream!
Eye Cream - Nip+Fab Viper Venom - I got this product on sale at Ulta after randomly perusing the aisles, but I actually really like it. Ā It came in a big tube, so it's lasted me a fairly long while. Ā It helps to plump up fine lines and keep my eyes feeling fresh. Ā I may go for a different eye cream when this one's done, but for now, I'm a fan.
Ā  Ā  That's it for my normal routine, but I'd like to add that I try and do a face mask at least once a week, and sometimes I supplement in my Bare Minerals Brilliant Future serum. Ā If I need an extra layer of moisture and vitamins, I pack this puppy on. Ā I originally used their skingevity serum, but I honestly wasn't very impressed. Lots of people raved about it, but I didn't really see any difference in my skin. Ā This serum is better, because it could work well on it's own, but also works great as a supplement. Ā The other serum wasn't moisturizing enough to be used on it's own. Ā
Ā  Ā  I also just bought a pore-refining gel from Yes To Grapefruit. I haven't actually used it yet, but I'm excited to see how it performs. It's sort of a treatment type thing, so it's something I'd use a few nights a week. Ā
Ā  Ā  That's all for my skincare routine!! See y'all next time!

Obsessed and Unimpressed: September
Disclaimer: this post was written in September 2016, but since Iā€™m transferring all my posts, it shall remain as such.
October is about to be here, and in less than 24 hours, I can officially buy makeup again. PRAISE JESUS, HALLELUJAH!!! I have been dying over here, y'all. It's been a rough month without any shiny, new goodies, but I have to say, I'm proud of myself. Ā The month didn't start off too strong though, as I accidentally, unconsciously bought a lipgloss from Victoria's Secret. I know I sort of ruined it from the get go, but I honestly had no idea what I was doing until I got home. Ā The ramifications of my actions didn't hit me until I pulled the lipgloss out of the bag and had to put it away. I looked at it, closed my eyes, and said "*&@#$*(*&%!" very loudly. Ā Ashamed, I put the lipgloss away, and vowed to never make the same mistake twice.
Ā  Ā  The rest of the month I was vigilant. I went to Target once and bypassed the beauty section, didn't set foot in CVS, and didn't show my face in Sephora or Ulta. Makeup is a huge vice for me, so to give it up for an entire month, just because, was impressive. Ā It has been hard these last few days, but knowing I can go to CVS tomorrow is getting me through. Ā Last time I was in my local store, it was being reorganized and rearranged. Needless to say, I am HYPE to go tomorrow and see the new changes.
Ā  Ā  From a monetary standpoint, it was essential that I didn't make too many unnecessary purchases in September; so cutting out makeup paid off. Ā Aside from living at home, I pay all of my bills myself, and I've had quite a few pop up over the past 6 weeks. Ā That being said, this challenge to myself helped me avoid any frivolities. Ā
Ā  Ā  Another added bonus was that I really focused on utilizing makeup I already own. Ā My post today will focus on products I rediscovered and fell in love with all over again this past month, and one that I'm really wishing I hadn't bought. Ā In the future, my "Obsessed & Unimpressed" posts will primarily focus on new products, but with that, here goes nothing!
C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine - Ah the days of cotillion. Ā Wandering around Regency in a "fancy" dress, white gloves, and kitten heels, seeing what my meager pocket book could afford. (My mom calls it a pocket book and it seemed fitting in this context, ok?) Ā My posse and I usually ended up in Bath and Body Works, where the lotions smelled luxurious, but didn't always have the price tag to match. Ā (To be fair, I still adore BBW. The products aren't tested on animals, and I get rad coupons every so often that inevitably contribute to my unhealthily large candle collection. You try and pass up 3 baby candles for $12...) One of the most coveted items of my middle school days was this lip shine by C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries. Ā First off, if the word apothecary doesn't make you think of cute nuns patiently poring over giant vats of lipgloss in mediaeval dungeons, or Game of Thrones, we shouldn't be friends. Ā Secondly, these things are packed with peppermint oil. Ā They come in tubes of varying flavors of mint, and back then would have made you believe that your stanky food court breath would be eradicated by wearing them. Ā I sort of feel bad for the workers that had to deal with the sudden onslaught of lipgloss obsessed pre-teens, snatching up tubes and smelling all the "Fresh Cotton" lotion. Ā TBH, those scents are very deceiving...fresh cotton doesn't even smell....but I digress. Ā I purchased this lipgloss again a few months ago for about $8, once again being lured in by the smell. Ā I'm glad I did though, because it's the perfect clear gloss with a delicious scent. I love this product alone, or as a topper for liquid lips. Ā However, when applying over a lip color, I recommend using your finger to dab it on.
Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lipgloss - This is another one that takes me back to my middle school days. Ā It was also a coveted product, and I'm a little sad that VS no longer has a big beauty section. Ā This was my achilles heel that fateful September day, but it's so sparkly that I really don't think I should be held responsible. Ā I chose the color "Strawberry Fizz", which is a pretty petal color infused with loads of sparkles. Ā The smell is wonderful, and I have to remind myself often that it's not edible...This product isn't very opaque, so I prefer to wear it over another lip color. Ā I will say though, it's perfect for those "no makeup" days too, so it has good duplicity. Ā It retails for $10, which is a little pricey, but there's a good amount of product.
NARS Rikugien - Can you tell I have a love of lip products? An Instagrammer I follow uses this satin lip pencil a lot, and after seeing it on her, I had to have it. Ā Rikugien glides on like butter, and has a delicate rose color. To me, it's universally flattering. It's sheer enough that my natural lip color shows through, but still has plenty of color payoff. Ā Because it's a pencil, Rikugien also has good precision and easy application. This pencil retails for $26, a little on the pricier side, but I highly recommend it.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in "Opal" - This was one of those minis that I got in my Sephora box, but I will 10/10 buy the full size if I ever hit pan. Ā This color is gorgeous and makes me shine bright like a giant opal. Ā The formula is smooth, with no powder fallout, and it blends easily. Ā It creates a beautiful, natural looking glow that can still be seen from the heavens.
Pati Dubroff Dream Palette - This palette has been in my collection for almost 2 years now. Ā It was given to me by a sorority sister who never used it, and I don't turn down free makeup. Ā At first, I was really only drawn to a few colors, but now I'm obsessed. Ā There's a wonderful variety of neutrals, with few fun colors thrown in. "Aire", "Siren", and "Timber" are definitely my favorites, with "Aire" being the perfect cream color. Ā It works well as a base, and as an eye brightener. I use it with "Timber" for one of my go-to, bright-eyed looks. Ā The palette also has a wonderful transition shade that's very similar to a shade in the Rust Stack by Melt Cosmetics. Ā Most of the shades are also matte, which is great for creating a natural eye.
White and Elm Antioxidant Serum - Oils and serums are seriously trending right now, and with good reason. These suckers really pack a punch when nourishing your skin. Ā Skincare goes hand-in-hand with makeup, and I cannot stress it enough. I got a sample of this oil in my Birchbox subscription, and it is amazing! Ā The oil soaks in quickly, and leaves my skin feeling plum and soft. I typically use it around my eye area in the morning after I've washed, but before I've primed. Ā This contributes to a smooth concealer application. I tell anyone who doesn't use eye cream that they should have been using it yesterday, so I'd go get some. Ā Also, I apply eye cream at night and in the morning. Night time is for restoring and preventing, morning is just to prep my skin for the day.
Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette - Unfortunately, this palette has left me unimpressed. I bought it a few years ago and have been trying so hard to like it ever since. Ā There are a handful of shadows that I do like, but overall, I think it was a waste of money. Ā The shimmery browns are beautiful, but the glittery shades are too chalky. Ā There is a color very similar to "Aire", but it's one of the chalky ones that's also not pigmented. Ā For a long while, I debated whether or not to get #2 or #3. I couldn't decide between the taupe golds or the rose golds, but felt the rose golds would look best on me. Ā Looking back, I really wish I'd bought the Naked 2 palette, because the colors are so gorgeous. Ā I rarely find myself grabbing this palette, and at $54, it's a costly product to regret. Ā Jamie Paige, a well known beauty blogger, dislikes this palette too, and I support her reasoning 100%. Ā UD products are great as a whole, but I think they just dropped the ball with this palette.
