The Ink Demonth 2023 - Day 6. Machine
Tumblr media
Day 6. Machine Crossover: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (and later series) "Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? We got some work to do now. Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? We need some help from you now." I cannot wait for the scene when they take Sammy's mask off :3 I'd watch an episode like that. Btw. in case anyone is wondering, Shaggy checks whether bacon soups are 20 or 50 years after expired, because it depends on whether he decides to heat them before eating or not :D
Am I a fan of Scooby-Doo? Well... yes and no. As a little kid, I loved the show, I even had VHS tapes of the episodes... But then my lil brother got hooked on it and watched it so obsessively that I hated the whole show (especially since his favourite was that damn Scrapy-Doo, so he was tormenting me episodes with him, and Scooby-Doom, the other son of the b*ch, which I hate). However, I still enjoyed the full-length movies, and to this day I still enjoy watching some of them (for example: "Scooby-Doo! and the Reluctant Werewolf" or "Scooby-Doo! in Where's My Mummy?..." by the way, the former was made in the year of my birth, so he's older than me, yay!) But then came the era of weird Scooby-Doo series that delighted me again and stole my heart, like "Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!", "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated" or crazy one  "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!" (I love self-ironical, self-parodying shows). So... yeah, I guess I'm a Scooby Doo fan now. What's more, I will now say something that will probably make some people hate me: I like the "scandalous" show "Velma". Uuuu! Everyone will stop following me now, what a drama.
I have to admit that I had fun - although it was probably one of the most difficult Ink Demonths so far (counting the future ones I've already drawn). Scooby-Doo is damn hard to draw, because he has very caricatured features while having quite a dog's build, and when broken down into simple shapes, he's... just plain ugly to draw. Shaggy was a bit of a challenge, but it was a real pleasure to draw Velma. By the way, these two are my favourite characters - and I ship them in their youth (in their mature life, I prefer Shaggy with that cool alien from one of the movies). I used, of course, the background from BATIM - and choosing the right one and then framing it the best took me a lot of time and frustration too. I originally wanted a setting from the first chapter, but nothing looked right with the characters on it. I finally made it to the second chapter - and I think it turned out really nice. However, I am extremely proud of how cans turned out, the expiration date of which is checked by Shaggy.
If anyone doesn't understand why this entry is for "machine" theme, let me remind you that the Gang drove a cool, colourful van called... that's right! The Mystery Machine! If you didn't know that, you can't consider yourself a Scooby-Doo fan :D

I don't like (I actually hate 👀) Benji. A long rant.
Here I said it. And I'm gonna explain why, even though nobody asked for it 😂. (And I know I'm gonna receive hell for it lmao)
One argument that people like to use to justify their hatred for Kenji and Brooklynn is the 2 years age gap (just for the sake of being transparant, I personnally do not have a problem with it, it's legal and I could never have a problem with a two years age gap). But that on its own can be understandable, we all have different beliefs and that's fine...I'm not gonna try to make people change their beliefs. But I have a really hard time taking it from people who ship Ben and Kenji (and surprise surprise...most of the fandom do 🙃).
The problem people say they have with the age gap is the difference in maturity between the two. Which is a really real thing, and is the reason laws exist to protect kids from predators. But while that is a thing, I think a lot of the fandom CHOSE to ignore that everybody does evolves differently and that not everyone matures at the same age/pace. Saying that a gap in maturity is an ethical problem and going around shipping Ben and Kenji is the biggest mindf*ck ever.
And so this is my problem.
Ben is the most immature of the whole group. At least to the other characters, he is. He had his MOM calling the camp consellors to give them a list of things to do to make him feel confortable. Kenji is mad when Dave and Roxy leave them with crayons, asking "how old do they think we are/when was the last time you ever saw crayons" clearly indicating that he sees that as a kiddy activity...only to see ben drawing himself and bumpy with crayons. And let me tell you that the way he draws himself says a lot about his self perception. It looks like a kid with his baby dino. He clings onto kenji when he is scared of the story Darius is telling, story that does not seem scary at all. This is not a romantic moment, and I find extremly weird that people look at it that way, EDIT it that way. This just looks like a twelve years old clinging onto the most reassuring person around because he is scared at night. There are a LOT of moments where Kenji makes fun of Ben's immaturity/makes sneaky comments or is annoyed by it, but people turn it into some romantic thing ? Half (if not all) of their interactions are just this. I repeat, Ben clinging onto Kenji because he is scared and Kenji dealing with it because Ben stubbornly refuses to let go will never be romantic. At least to me.
Basically Ben's entire arc, from season 1, is that he needs to let go of his fears, (and probably his mom overshielding) to become his own person and MATURE...GROW UP and be self-reliant. And Kenji appears to be the oldest camper. Do the math.
That's why when I found out that it was the most popular ship in the fandom (there were only two seasons out at that time) I was genuinely PHASED.
Yes, Kenji cares about Ben, and yes, he was the most affected when he "died". But to me, it was because he finally started to like/accept Ben despite his childish behavior, exactly as in the older brother/annoying and overbearing little brother trope. And not to mention that it's later shown that he has a personal struggle with the idea of loosing people and death as seen by the way he reacted when Sammy was about to die. So it was really more about Kenji than Ben. Or maybe Kenji is in love with Ben and Sammy.
My problem with this ship is that people make their scenes to be something it's not and argue that it was being set up, that there was chemistry. When really... It.Was.Not.Set.Up.
And they have as much chemistry as a kid and his nanny can have.
The single idea that Kenji could be ATTRACTED to Ben in season one (the season where everyone started shipping them) should normally be disgusting to anyone watching. Because KENJI SEES HIM AS A KID. Which is the difference with him and Brooklynn. Everyone can have their problem with that, but the fact is that Kenji never ONCE refered to Brook as a kid/being childish nor made fun of her for that. Heck, in episode one he even singles out Darius as "the younger kid" when the three of them are together.
Which brings me to my point. A lot of people took the ages of the campers Dreamworks released, and ran with it without even a second thought. Watching season one, without that info - that is never clearly stated in canon, keep that in mind - (And funnily enough for all we know Ben could be like a month older than Brook since it was their age at a specific point in time but weirdly enough everybody chooses to ignore it) you CANNOT tell me that you'd find Ben to be even remotely older than Brook. When Ben and Kenji are together, it looks like a 18 years old standing next to a 12 years old. With Kenji and Brook, it looks like a 18 years old and a (minimum) 16 years old. I still think the ages they gave them are REALLY unrealistic but even if you consider them to be canon... doesn't change the fact that there is an enormous maturity gap btw Kenji and Ben which you need to be blind not to see. A gap that was and will always be bigger than the one btw Brook and Kenji.
I could go on and say that even after he comes back, he is still the most immature and only starts to evolve by the end of season 3 but I don't need to because this ship only "exists" in season 1 (and 2 but tbh the only scene they have for them is Kenji being happy and emotional that his friend is alive...and hugging him ? Heck, Darius and Ben reunion is ten times more impactful). Also, if Kenji suddenly started to have something for Ben in season 4 it would still creep me out ngl.
So yeah, I hate the fact that people hate a ship based on an hypothetical maturity gap btw two characters because of a two years (maybe one and a half) age gap but have no problem shipping a kid who thinks of himself that way with Kenji.

It has been an eventful week, so this post took longer than I wanted to, but finally, a long post on s4:
Ok, let's start with the good stuff, because I think that's what most of us want to focus on right now:
-> First of all, call me a kinnie, but Ben was my favorite character this season. After two seasons of trying to find a middle ground between the Ben he was when he got to camp and the Ben he found in the island, it looks like he's finally sorting everything out, bringing back his sensitive, careful side, but still being open with the campers and feeling more sure of himself, which was a great change from s3 Ben, when he was still figuring this out. They did a great job with Episode 2 (the "just Ben" dialogue tugged some heartstrings ngl), and his interactions with the rest of the campers sure were more lighthearted and natural than in previous seasons, and it shows that he's finally finding his place within the group.
-> Mae!!!! 💖 She was a rush of fresh air while watching. Finally! An adult with morals who's willing to look out for the kids and actually doing something to take them home. I especially enjoyed her disposition to listen to the campers, which had been missing in the show (yes, even with Dave and Roxie I'm sorry), and was probably what made her escalate so far up my list of favorites. I wish we'd gotten a little more on her, since she was missing around halfway through the season, but we'll see what's in store for her in s5!
-> Now, the scene that made the entire living room shake: When Darius calls Brandon.
First of all, welcome back mister, you were greatly missed. Second, every time I think about how Darius's insticts jumped to immediately calling his brother I cry tears of happiness, I really thought he was gonna call the police but no he called Brandon hold up I'm gonna cry-
Anyways, I live in fear over what's gonna happen, since Brandon is probably the only person on mainland who knows or suspects the campers are still alive, and what would be better than making him reach out for the last 2 people who saw them? I really hope Brandon, Dave and Roxie make it to the campers, let them have a last chance at saving them.
(Also, random thought: Did anyone else got the tiniest bit scared when both Mae and Kash didn't believe the campers surviving on Nublar? Because someone a while ago said something about the public not believing the campers come from Nublar and saying it was all for attention and...um...*sweats nervously*)
-> Yaz's PTSD finally catching up with her. Some say it came out of the blue, others say it was about time. In my opinion it makes perfect sense, since not only has it been 6 months of running for their lives, but Yaz was the one who stared at the Scorpius Rex in the face, all the feelings and trauma from the Long Run had to have an impact on her. She had been bottling everything up, and the Long Run was the last straw that made everything come spilling out. I wished other characters had also gotten to talk about their trauma, but more on that later.
-> And talking about the queens of Rome, Yasammy stands unbeatable as it always has. Although they didn't become canon, we still got incredibly sweet moments between them: the drawing scene from Episode 1 (which has a lot of similarities with the balcony scene from the Cattle Drive 😏); Sammy helping Yaz with her nightmares (the bed scene was so domestic and cute, definitely made the top 3 of my favorite scenes of this season); how they were taking care of Angel, and the line that takes the cake: "Pretty sure you're the reason I have any feelings at all, Sammy" Like ARE WE GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT??? The implications, the symbolism,,, that line is everything
-> THE CLIFFHANGER, aka one of the 3 or 4 reasons I'm still hyped for s5. I was already speculating it around Episode 8 when I started noticing Kash was mentioning his boss too much for it to be normal, and because I spent the entirety of October theorizing about his dad showing up I had some hope. When I tell you that the moment Kenji started walking closer I had a pillow on my mouth to not scream it, and when the reveal happened my sister and I were yelling so much I think the ones on the last floor heard us 😳
It's still hard to believe because,,, how were we right about that?! We barely had proof other than the painting and the 2 or 3 lines we had about Kenji's dad, and yet we were right??? I can't wait to see where they take this in s5, because the angst potential is unmeasurably high, and we might finally get the insight on Kenji's family that we've been so desperately waiting for since the beginning of the show
-> The kayak friendships! Darius and Sammy got more scenes together (which btw, there's not near enough 😐), and the Ben and Yaz friendship has finally gotten more development! The "I just don't like like you" scene has quickly become one of my favorites from the show lol
-> Baby dinos! They were so freakingshly cute, and how they did that sideplot of Ben not wanting to befriend them so it wouldn't hurt like it did with Bumpy but then giving in and naming the Brachiosaurus Firecracker had me smiling like an idiot 💖
-> And by the way, HOW DARE YOU SHOW US THAT SCENE OF BUMPY NO ONE WAS READY FOR THAT! My sister broke down crying, and the way they set it up after "I'm sure she's already forgotten about old Ben" LIKE HOW DARE YOU??? 😭😭😭
-> It was such a cool detail to bring back the DNA Sammy collected from Nublar, the drone had been a question on my mind for almost an entire year and now it's finally resolved.
Now, the bad stuff:
<- That. I could go on for an entire 10-page essay about how this makes me feel, but I'll try to be as short and concise as possible: some paragraphs.
First of all, the way they introduced it into the show. Sure, Kenji had flirted with Brooklynn in the first episode of s1, but afterwards there was absolutely nothing leading to it. All their interactions after that were more on a friendly light, even familial to some extent. It is mentioned that the s3 finale was "the turning point" of their feelings, but to be honest, there were no implications to it. Kenji had become more selfless during the past six months, coming to view the campers as family, him being worried over Brooklynn was not "romantic" in any way. We'll go back to the s3 finale later.
The kayak scene in s1 and the talk in 02x04 are scenes I want to bring into attention, since in these it's shown clearly that Kenji is way more mature than Brooklynn, which is of concern when it comes to their romantic relationship. While I do consider their age gap to be concerning, it's more about the gap in maturity: 13 is still on the very early years of adolescence, while 15 is halfway through. It's even implied on their character designs. Brooklynn's blog is clearly directed at children, her design and clothes are still somewhat childlike, and then you have Kenji here with A FREAKING BEARD. It's weird as hell.
Also, "there's a bit of romance in the air"? A bit? A bit?! They were thrown into our faces every five minutes! Not even 10 minutes into episode 1 Kenji was already looking at Brooklynn like that! So many aspects of the season were overshadowed in favour of That: how the island works, what's the plan behind it, how did the campers get there, who's aware of its existence, how are the campers going to leave this island, I can name more. Some of these were either never talked about, or mentioned in one quick line you can easily forget. And you could say "oh but this is like season 1, it's a new island, we'll have time to explore it later", but the truth is: s5 is pointing out to be the final season, with Kenji's dad showing up and Brandon going for Darius. Next season is coming loaded with Mantah Corp, Kenji's relationship with his dad, and the campers trying to get home in one piece. There's not going to be enough time to explore the island correctly like s2 did, for example. All those questions had to be answered this season, and they weren't, thanks to their supposed development.
And the butchering of the characters...oh god. Outside of Ben, every character in the camp fam was affected by the romance subplot, if differently for each one. Kenji and Brooklynn were basically not allowed to have any meaningful interactions with the camp fam besides each other, and when they did speak to other characters 90% of the time it was related to the romance. Kenji was supposed to have more development in s4, yet all he did was become a simp for a 13 year-old girl and any arc he could've gotten this season was thrown away. I think Brooklynn was treated better when it comes to this, but she was still reduced to her romantic subplot, and her feelings didn't look genuine. Yaz and Sammy have had 3 seasons of build-up, and after everything that happened in The Long Run there should've been a follow up to their feelings and where their relationship stands at that moment. In my opinion, if they wanted to go for a romance subplot, they should've gone for them, it would've been paced out better and it would have made sense.
But the one character outside the pair that was most affected by all of this was...
<- Darius...Darius, my boy, how do you keep going? It's been 4 seasons, and he has not cried ONCE. Every other camper has gotten their moment to cry, to be vulnerable around others, except Darius, the leader, the godforsaken main character. The show constantly forgets he's 12, he barely counts as a teenager, and he's enthrusted with the lives of 5 other kids, who are as much as 3 years older than him, as well as his own. The s3 finale was sort of promising an answer to this, an insight on the pressure Darius is constantly feeling, BUT *drumrolls please*, turns out Darius instantly forgets about what Kenji said to him in 03x10 halfway through episode 1, Kenji being angry at him was just because he had a crush on Brooklynn, and Darius never gets the focus he deserves because why would we do that when there's this "romance"!!!
Also think it's important to mention how he was held back by Kash for 3 whole episodes. I said I wanted the rest of the campers to deal with things by themselves, but between them doing perfectly fine without him and him being incredibly chill with his situation compared to, for example, when Mitch and Tiff were chasing him and Sammy in 02x07, just leaves me severely disappointed. He literally has numbed down all the trauma and grief he has in order to help the others, and that's just our interpretation, because at this point who knows what the writers will even do with him. The trailer for s4 had most of us waiting for a season that would focus on him, yet he was distant from many of the campers through the season. Darius deserves a season that truly focuses on him and lets him talk freely about his feelings and trauma the way other characters have done through the show.
<- The beacon. Before the season dropped my speculations were that Mantah Corp had intercepted the signal and they just never cared about it. But not only was it never mentioned, we also found out that Kenji's dad is the president of Mantah Corp. If they had received the signal from Nublar, he would've been informed, and would have gone after it (unless he's an actual piece of garbage of a human being, which honestly would not surprise me, but in the context of the show I don't think they're going that far.). My theory right now is that someone related to the park got the signal, but assumed it was just a person and decided to not act, Dave and Roxie heard about this and are trying to figure out what to do, hoping it's the campers. It's been 2 seasons and we still don't know what happened to it, we need answers.
So my final conclusion is that the season wasn't all bad, the plot had a lot of potential and some of it was handled properly and still managed to keep me on the edge of my seat, but there were some major fuck-ups and decisions that messed up some of its aspects. It's definitely my least favorite season, but looking back at it it's not as terrible as I first thought it was, and I am still tuning in for s5.

SESSION TWELVE of the BatIM Call of Cthulhu game, aka Continuing to have a Great Time At The Masquerade! : )
Joey and Bendy destabilised early on, meaning Joey went through the ENTIRE masquerade UNABLE TO STOP SMILING
getting some mixed messages here, Joey
Sometimes u dress ur characters up as rabbits for fun but then you have a lot of emotions about them losing their minds and then u gotta draw them losing their minds while dressed as rabbits... anyway Jack being mind-controlled did NOT help Sammy hold onto his mental stability at this nightmare party in case you were wondering,
ANYWAY HAVE, MORE OUT-OF-CONTEXT QUOTES, UNDER THE CUT
[Sammy is played by me, Joey is played by Boo (inkyvendingmachine), Henry is played by Maf (inkcryptid), Jack is played by Mochi (whatyouwantedmetosee) and Thren (haunted-hijinxer) is our GM!]
[GM] Joey, make a POW roll also... [Joey] Oh, boy, [GM] ...because Bendy was also told to enjoy this party, and you guys just passed a plate of food, and he wants to eat! [Jack] FEED YOUR SON! [Joey] No!!! [Henry] HES A HUNGRY BOY! [Sammy] A GROWING BOY!
[Henry] Henry will look back to see if Moonlight is trying to follow them! [GM] He will see that Moonlight has grabbed onto the railing of the stairs and is hobbling slowly down them. [Joey] *extremely evil-sounding cackling*
[Jack] All Cthulhu Official Dice actually come weighted, to make you fail.
[Henry] Gotta try harder than that, bitch! [Henry] ....that wasn't in character. [Jack] It's in character, but he's only thinking it. [Sammy] That's the golden text you see on the wall if you use the seeing tool
[Henry] My Luck is 68, I don't know what y'all are doing! [Jack] We're spending Luck so that we'll fail! [Sammy] BEING UNLUCKY! I've barely spent any Luck, I'm just NOT A LUCKY GUY
[Henry] Oh, Avedon's here, [GM] There's a gunshot, and he tries to shoot Fowler! [Joey] Um, well, uh, whoops!, rest in peace Fowler! [Sammy] Yeah, that'll sort itself out, let's go! [GM] Moonlight seems to reconsider from telling people to grab you guys, to grabbing Avedon instead. [Joey] Oh! THANKS AVEDON, your sacrifice will, not be thought about in the slightest!!!
[Sammy] Is... weird question, does this room look like it matches the architecture of the rest of the house? [GM] [GM] [GM] ...make a sanity check.
[Sammy] It would be a like, Come on Jack, do you know where you are, shake it off, snap out of it, kind of thing. [GM] Why don't you make a... a.... oh boy, [Sammy] One of my REALLY persuasive social skills?
[GM] This probably just registers to Jack as, Sammy griping about a party, which isn't that strange. [Jack] Yeahhhh, he wants to leave. He always does that. I wanna stay at least a little longer! [GM] That just means it's Jack's job to find them something fun and good to do. [Sammy] Oh boy, [GM] I don't think Jack is being compelled to be aggressive about this necessarily, he just feels like he's Jack at a party, doing the things Jack normally does, and trying to have a good time! [Sammy] Ah, and everyone else is being weird, [GM] Yeah! Everybody's being really weird! You're at this nice party, and now you're in this weird room? The party's back there somewhere! [Jack] I mean not that he's opposed to bein' dragged into side rooms at parties by cute boys, but,
[GM] The table looks like a table that Henry has in his house, actually. [Sammy] Have I ever been in Henry's house? These are questions I didn't expect to need to ask tonight.
[Sammy] Jack, this is weird! You see this is weird, right?! [Jack] Well yeah, it is kinda weird that we're in-- what are we doing here? [Joey] Joey is going to grab Jack's arm, and point to the next door, and go "Party is this way!"
[GM] Peter looks worried... [Sammy] Sammy looks worried too! Well, Sammy looks angry, but in a worried way.
[Joey] Joey is going to scream frustratedly. [Sammy] Is there ink in this room? [GM] There is not. [Jack] Is there a party in this room? [GM] Definitely no, only the party you bring with you.
[Joey] Joey is going to scream again. [Joey] He's also going to kick the door. He might stub his toe. [Sammy] Through all this, Joey is smiling. I just need us all to remember that. [Joey] YES. Also his tail is furiously going. [GM] Bendy is also upset! There is nothing to eat here.
[Joey] Joey is going to try to feed Bendy some ideas, [GM] He doesn't want ideas, he wants food!
[Joey] So.... what happens if you fumble a sanity roll?
[GM] See, here's the silly part. At this point, right? At this point, the best place to do the tasks you want to do, involve either getting the stone out of the room with the safe, or having the staff that Henry is currently holding. [Sammy] So you would arrive, by completely different means, to the same place that we are! [GM] Clearly Joey is inside the safe.
[Jack] Bad and naughty Joey Drews get put in the safe to atone for their sins!
[Henry] Henry is going to channel his inner Joey Drew and round the corner and say "No, sorry about him, we're just here on inspection, we need to check the safe." [Henry] Which is probably a Fast Talk, which I hope it isn't, because my Fast Talk is a 5. [GM] Unless you wanna try to turn that into a persuade somehow? [Henry] I'll do Persuade! [GM] What are you doing to persuade them, rather than just lying? [Henry] *rolls* I failed... I'm gonna push it... [Sammy] *uneasy noises* IF YOU PUSH IT AND IT GOES BAD, IT GOES WORSE [Henry] AH! HAHA! I ROLLED A SIX! [Sammy] THAT'S STILL NOT LESS THAN FIVE! [Henry] WELL IM DOING PERSUADE! [Sammy] That means you have to NOT LIE! [Henry] ....Fuck. [Henry] Okay, uh, there's an emergency, we need the contents of that safe. [Sammy] THATS STILL A LIE??? [Joey] NO actually, THAT'S TRUE! [Henry] It IS an emergency!!
[Sammy] Sammy cannot believe that this is working.
[GM] Bendy does wonder what his plan is for getting out of the safe. This does not seem like a fun party place. [Joey] Um, [Joey] Joey says it's a surprise.
[GM] Henry, the safe does indeed open! And there's a Joey! [GM] Bendy says "Oh wow!" [Henry] Henry tries his best to keep a straight face, like yes! this is exactly what he came here for! [Sammy] (Sammy is NOT keeping a straight face) [Jack] (Straight? In this party?)
[Jack] He's probably saying something like, "What are you doing, he's one of us!" [Jack] And that could go either way. That could mean "No, he's chill, I will persuade you to stop!" Or that could mean, "We are also criminals!"
[GM, as the guards] Then why does he look like the Yellow King's messenger? [Henry] *not missing a beat* We get that a lot.
[GM] Something falls from the sky and lands in front of him. And it's a person! [Joey] Is he alive? [GM] Very much not. [Sammy] How... how Illusion of Living canon-compliant is this Joey...?
[Jack] So... it would probably occur to Jack that this is weird for a party,
[Henry] Joey don't touch it! [Joey] Why not? [Henry] There's runes around it. I don't know if you can touch it. [Joey] Joey's gonna touch it. [Henry] *long-suffering sigh* If you get zapped, I'll tell you I told you so!
[Jack] Jack really wishes we were just back at the party right now, you guys... [Jack] Only bad things have happened. [Jack] Pete's traumatised, Joey's goopy, the Lurker ate all of the snacks,
[Sammy] Can I try to break free from Henry? Sammy's gonna try to run over there. [Henry] At this point, Sam can go, if he wants. [Sammy] Okay, cool. Then Sammy's gonna go and put ink in his mouth! [Henry] Goddammit. I was hoping you were going to check on Joey!
[Joey] You can’t take all of the sanity hits! You have to leave some for other people! [Jack] Says you! You got so many temps!! And an indefinite!!
[GM] Bendy probably is complaining loudly about WHY DID HE WALK THROUGH THE RUNES??? [Joey] Oh! I thought he was going to complain about the party, or lack thereof, [GM] That’s part of not having fun at the party, he’s not into that! [Joey] Well, [GM] This is not a fun party activity!!
[GM] But he doesn’t think it will destroy either of them, if you do it right! [Jack] That’s a nice, way to end that sentence,
[Sammy] Let us hurry! May I take the stone? [Joey] Joey shrugs. [Sammy] Sammy will, uh, attempt to reach inside of... whatever this is, and find the stone. [Henry] Reach INTO your LOCAL boss, and you will find A Friend And Boy,
[Sammy] Is there anything in this room that I can pick up, and then hit him in the head with? [GM] Henry has a stick... uh....there’s a projector.... [Sammy] Can I pick that up? [GM] No, you cannot. [Sammy] It would be REALLY funny if Sammy dropped a projector on someone else’s head. [Sammy] HOW THE TURNTABLES!!!
[GM] ...Can you impale with a rocking horse...???? [Sammy] I don’t want to impale, I want to knock him in the head so he passes out!!! Rest your head, it’s time for bed!!!
[Jack] I don’t think Jack has any plans after this! [Jack] I meant that in the sense that he doesn’t know what he’s doing next, but the way I phrased it, now it just sounds like he’s hitting on Fowler, like, he doesn’t have anything to do after this, are you free? That’s not canon.
[Joey] I don’t know how this will go, [Sammy] Good luck! [Joey] But Joey would like to-- [Sammy] Sammy believes in half of you! [GM] w-which Sammy? wHICH HALF?!
[Jack] I know you said “note.” But my brain at first processed that word as “milk.” [Henry] *laughing* “Did you get my milk, Fowler?” [Jack] He drank the last carton and he didn’t buy more! [Sammy] “I’m going to the store, want me to get anything? *jumps into the lake*”
[GM] Combat Jack! [Jack] *exasperated* He’s not a Combat Boy! Jack is soft and warm, like mashed potatoes!!!
[GM] Norman is wondering to Henry if he oughta be concerned about you all getting what you want out of this. [Henry] .....Maybe.

Hello yes my hyperfixation is Henry so I would like to know about Henry in the portal AU i'm sorry I don't have a specific question
Hmm lemme think
Well so Henry is kinda like taking Chell's place
The "portals" work in such a way that he uses the golden spray (that you can find in batim locked behind boards, in this world its more orange) to paint things to go through like for example doors, and the other thing is the blue seeing tool to see the other doors drawn before in the environment
As it's not testing in this AU but cartoon making, he isn't required to use these to go through a cartoon episode but he can use them to get out of an episode faster/easier
Though they also become a part of his character's design so they mat be essential to plots of some cartoons
Story!Joey was inviting all the humans he could find in the company's files, Real!Joey previously got rid of Henry's files but Sammy seeing the studio's downfall decided to make a file for Henry because he figured Henry could be someone to help them
(Sammy was the only human that survived being turned into a cartoon/death)
Story!Joey as such doesn't know Henry until he recognizes him when Real!Joey's conscience starts kicking in later on
When Henry arrrives at the studio he is turned into a toonyfied version of himself and he starts to go through the cartoons and is guided by Joey's voice
He thinks the messages are pre-recorded until he escapes being burned to death in the last cartoon planned for him - because those messages weren't prerecorded, it was Story!Joey talking to him all this time in a way that was supposed to trick him into thinking he's not actually being supervised live, but when Henry escapes, Story!Joey loses his cool (just as GlaDOS in the game) and starts talking in a way that shows that he's definitely watching his every move
Henry's mute but he's more expressive than Chell, as far as his gestures and drawings can go, he definitely performs a few acts of vandalism with his spray :P
As a parallel to the companion cube, he had to get rid of a... Boris. Joey definitely used that to torment him, alongside the fact that his wife probably gave up on him and found someone else and making up stuff about bad things happening to his family in real life
When Story!Joey realizes Henry is his friend and decides to let him go (because he's still required to make cartoons but doesnt want Henry to suffer through them), Henry leaves the studio with Wally that has been now fully made into a companion Boris :P
(That's a sort of a punishment from Story!Joey for almost destroying the studio; also Wally had Boris elements in his design before but he wasn't fully made into one.)
So, outside Henry and Wally tag along and possibly reunite with their families (though due to loops a looot of time has passed so its possible most of them could be dead at the time)
(Generally most workers at the studio dont have anyone to get back to, so staying and embracing the cartoon life is okayish for them)
Well I went off lmao xD

Ayy, asking for a couple opinions because I've been stuck on this fanart project where I draw AEW peeps as other characters. 1) I want to do a Power Rangers one, but I'm torn between Jungle Boy (Koda/Dino Charge) or Griff (Ziggy/RPM). They just radiate that dorky/protag energy. 2) There are some I have no clue for (i.e. Best Friends, Kip, Joey, Sammy, etc.). Any ideas you got, I'll definitely consider them. Sorry for the long ask, but thank you so much for reading.
Hey! It's cool! I'm happy to answer!
Sadly I haven't watched power rangers in years, I just remember the bare minimum when I was a kid, but I'll answer the best I can!
For the first one, they both do radiate dorky protagonist energy but if I had to pick I'd say jack radiates it more. Griff could be more of a secondary protagonist/important background character. Not completely in the back but, he's there. It also depends on which one you like drawing more. Cause when it comes to art, it's all about if you're having fun and like what you're doing!
As for the second, it depends on which version of the power rangers you do. If I remember correctly, each version has totally different characters, including the rangers. I definitely think if you don't have the rangers assigned yet they all should have some tie to each other, should probably be the faces, or the colors match the wrestler if you can't tie then all together, or they match the ranger's original personality type. For example, Sonny being pink since it fits her theme, or Luchasaurus for green since he wears a green mask and has green in his hair.
If I also remember correctly, most versions of the rangers has the "duo that keep bugging the rangers when they're at school and are probably gay, definitely stupid, and probably get close/know the rangers identities" which is 100% Trent and Chuck
There's also usually a helper character(s) that help the rangers with their powers which honestly could be orange, sonny, Marko, luchasaurus, Brandon, and maybe a few more I can't think of, which also depends on the version, but they're usually a robot assistance type character or a teacher/sensai character, again if I remember correctly
You're welcome to dm me if you want to bounce off ideas/explain some stuff I may have forgotten! Which is probably a lot.
One thing I could also suggest is making your own version of the rangers! I did that once for stranger things where I gave the rangers a completely different backstory and zords based on icons of the 80s with different suit designs, still using the original colors. Maybe for aew their zords can be based off their gimmicks, like a dinosaur for Jack or a deer for the young bucks. Things like that. You could even add/remove colors if you don't wanna follow the original colors! Be creative with it!
I hope this all helps!

Hi Sammy! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm trying to work on my first digital comic and I was wondering if you have any tips to share? Your work is so beautiful and the composition is amazing and so inspiring! I usually work in CSP when I draw, and I've done some paper drafts, I'm just starting the digital process now :) thank you so much! And I hope that mine will come out to be even remotely as incredible as yours!
hi there, omg thank you so much!!
for me, the process i’ve usually been doing for digital comics goes like this:
1. planning/research - this can go on throughout the entire process of making the comic, but it’s a good idea to get a big chunk of it done before you start so you have ideas and know what you’re doing! grab ref photos if you need, look stuff up on the internet, do whatever
2. write script and create characters (usually i write scripts in microsoft word, but for “dream” i worked off of an account i wrote up on the notes app of my phone after i woke up from the dream, and improvised the script page by page) - i frequently make up characters before i even have a story, but if i do have a story in mind i tend to do the characters at the same time as the script
3. sketch comic, insert placeholder text - i do all of my comics in FireAlpaca! i use the box/shape tool to lay out where i think i want panels to go and what size they should be. i usually work at the same size i would be printing at, but you could work bigger! i usually combine the sketch stage with the thumbnail stage because it’s easier for me to layout panels on the actual page so i can see how they fit instead of tiny thumbnails. here i sketch out placement of objects and poses, and make sure perspective makes some kind of sense, and any other important things i don’t want to forget in the lining stage (or coloring, like lines where i want certain shading to go). i also include placeholder text that may or may not be final, but i highly recommend laying out words as early as possible bc they can take up a lot of space you need to account for
4.  draw comic - i go right into ink/lines! i don’t do a pencil stage (the pencil stage is the same as my sketch stage). to start i always draw the panels by hand (i don’t use a tool because i like an organic line, but to make sure they’re somewhat straight i use the boxes from before as a guide). i also do the word balloons by hand, and then i do figures/backgrounds. sometimes i leave out details that i will include in the coloring stage, like certain textures (texture of trees or grass, for example)
5. color - i start with flat color and then shade! usually i hand pick the colors i want to shade with instead of using a multiply layer or something like that, but for really complicated things i do tend to use different kinds of special layers.
6. (this is throughout the process) but sometimes i will take the FireAlpaca file and put it into photoshop to use their guide tools to adjust things, or use a textured brush for something, or to insert text. for “dream” i went back and forth regularly with FireAlpaca and photoshop
TIPS
- for composition, i like to consider mood and keeping the eye interested. lately, i don’t tend to break the mold of the grid without a reason (this is just me, you can do whatever you want!! tons of people don’t adhere to the grid and do other really cool stuff. i’m still learning!). the reason for breaking it could really be that i just need more room for words or to show something and i’ll extend the panel into the margins or bleed area. or maybe the shape of a panel needs to be changed bc it’s a dream or a flashback, or maybe you need to go into the bleed area bc something dramatic is happening! you can also mess with the colors of your panels, and the colors of the margin space. consider too, if you like the look of the page overall as an individual piece!
- if you plan on printing your comics, make sure you print out your sketched pages/layouts at actual size so you can make sure the panel sizes and font sizes are legible when a person is going to read it! this can take a lot of attempts, but once you find what you like hopefully you won’t have to do it a million times again
- for longer comics, i recommend creating a palette of colors that include all the ones you use most frequently so you don’t have to constantly eyedrop them from other pages
- don’t get too hung up on any 1 panel, remember that the average person spends something like 6 seconds (probably less) looking at one panel before moving on
- i work at a very high dpi, like 400, which has always been fine (so far), i always recommend working higher bc i think it’s safer, even tho it does make bigger files
- remember to save your work, and save it in MULTIPLE places!! back it up!
- this is just a taste thing but i love comics with custom type/handwritten type styles! you could try out doing a handwritten font or something! i used Calligraphr for mine, and i’ll prob use it again to make more
- i think it’s important to try and best recreate how your audience will experience reading your comic! since it’s impossible as the author/artist to see your own work for the first time as a finished piece, make sure that before you call it done, you give it a couple days without looking at it, and then come back to read it with fresh eyes. see if you think you’re getting the effect you want and if you like the flow! sometimes this can be hard to see/feel though, so you’ll have to just trust your gut sometimes haha!
that’s all i can think of for now but you can always ask me if you have more specific questions!! good luck with your comics!!

Time taken- 5 hours
Applications used- MediBang Paint and Inshot
Music listened to- Horror show by Komono Chords, and Amen by CG5.
*Andromeda is not my real name, but is what you and I will refer to me as.
A little more to the piece:
All of these characters belong to me so, if you would like to draw one of them, go ahead, but be sure to put the original creator on your piece. (We don't want Grand Theft Art on your hands!).
Take a seat, coz' this gonna be a long one.

Kitty is the cat looking oc (duh, Andromeda, we know that much.), and was originally going to be a rabbit, but I changed my mind.
Backstory: Originally the daughter of Wally Franks, her name was Lucy Franks. She enjoyed playing outside and exploring. When Father son/daughter day came, she was amazed by everyone and everything. She explored the ink machine's room and fell down five stories after tripping and falling into that pit of ink and emptiness. Wally Franks was devastated and knew what that machine could do. He pleaded with Joey to fix her up, no matter what the cost. He begrudgingly agreed, but when the time came, he would have to lay down his life for the sake of the company.
ⱮĄɕɧıИĄ
Machina is the robot looking one, (Again, with the names Andromeda...), originally had gears that were behind her head and mid back, a wore a sort of tuxedo dress, but I changed my mind.
Backstory- Before she was a metal monstrosity, she was Bertrum's daughter, Alexis Piedmont. She was usually in the studio, helping Bertrum with his works, and offering him great inspiration. Letting a child design an amusement park was fun for the both of them. When working on the carousel, the system glitched, and she was flung with such force, that she hit the ceiling hitting a hidden pipe in the ceiling, and falling a good 50 feet. Bertrum took four steps to get across the room, his determination and terror echoed in every step. The left half of her was torn badly, because of the parts she landed on. In a mad rush, he created a machine full of fictional mechanical organs. Making it look like her favorite cartoon character, Machina. He was in a rush, so it wasn't finished. He took her to the infirmary, where he operated on her, turning her into the first living cyborg.

I actually used Shifty's original design, that my friends, was what Shifty first looked like.
Backstory-
They were the studio's Jesus when they were born. But only Melody interacted with everyone in place of Joey. Because of this, Melody got very close to everyone. Joseph was exactly like his father, helping him with his works. But Melody brightened the days of all around her. Everyone except one Samuel J Lawrence. She was his biggest distraction. He cared not if her intentions were good, they were annoying. Unfortunately, little Melody Drew liked Sammy. Again and again she would stop at nothing to crack his heart of stone, seemingly doing worse every time she tried. Melody grew depressed because of this. She begged Joey to give her another purpose, because if she couldn't make people happy, she wasn't worth the clothes on her back. Joey agreed, and put her in the ink machine, in the middle of the process, the machine jammed, and everyone thought she was dead. Joey wanted Shifty to be real, so he put her twin brother Joseph in as well after a heavy drugging. The next day, the machine dumped hundreds of gallons of ink, and out came Shifty and Joseph Drew. They each took half of Shifty's look, and the other half of her was what it was, but colorless and a different looking hair. For Joseph, it was a failed other half of Shifty.
ɕĄИƐ
The only change I put into Cane was her eyes. Originally they were white with black ovalish pupils, but I decided that It didn't look very good.
Backstory- Cadence Pendle's mother was a talented voice actress who took the role of Alice Angel's voice. Allison stood up for what she believed in, and never gave up. Which wasn't very easy, because her daughter was a little hellion, and earned her nickname Cane, with relative ease. The person she looked up to most? None other than Bendy the dancing demon. She couldn't get enough of his hi jinks. So one day, she took an entire episode's worth of frames home, and Joey lost it. He randomly scribbled down what she would look like, and put her in the ink machine. She came out a monster. Which gave Joey an excellent idea on what the star of the show could be.
ʑı℘℘ყ
Besides the cheeks, Zippy had nothing change about her. Which either means, I'm a lazy artist, or I did a good job on her.
(Probably just lazy...)
Backstory-
Zoey had a rather fun father. He made toys, of course he was fun. Zoey and Shawn Flynn were rather close, and one was to wonder how the father could be so loud and proud, and the daughter short and sweet. Zoey Flynn was a girl of few words, but when she did speak, it was powerful and provocative. When her father went missing, she was so torn up, she decided to never speak again. And to make sure not even the demon himself could taint her vow, she sewed her mouth shut.
Cartoons Backstory-(last one, I promise.)
The five girls mentioned previously were as thick as thieves. They spent most of their time with each other while they're parents worked in the studio. The best part was the cartoons.
Melody Drew brought the kindness, leadership and creativity. She made everyone they're very own cartoon characters, making sure each of them fit their personality perfectly.
Zoey Flynn brought opportunities and sensibility, each of them recived a plush of thier character.
Cadence Pendle brought outrageousness and fun, she wrote the storylines to their wacky adventures.
Machina brought intelligence and strategies, thinking of clever ways to hide hints of their existence in the actual cartoon
Kitty brought a sense of ease and hope, making everyone want to keep up this game.
And thus, the Final Five was born.
