@f1writingbyme and I somehow managed to write 7518 words within 24 hours, and we are so, so happy with the result. However, this was intended to be pure crack, but it ended up being angst and sort-of-crack instead. Enjoy.

Summary:

“So who was that guy?” he asks casually as he steps out of his shoes on the doormat, then puts them on the shoe rack. 

"What guy?" Max asks, trying to keep his balance as he unties his laces. He puts his shoes on the shoe rack next to Charles' and takes off his jacket.

Charles lets out a soft laugh. “The guy who was hugging you outside the restaurant. He looked… Friendly.”

Max looks genuinely puzzled. Then his face changes into one of realization. "Oh!" Max says, followed by a small laugh. "That's not a guy. That's Tim, a childhood friend."

Charles hums. “Really? You’ve never mentioned him.”

"I haven't seen him since I was sixteen, baby. There's not much to say."

You asked, we deliver: the Christmas gift Max never got to give Charles in The Seasons of Heartbreak. We wanted to answer this question in the only way we know how: by writing these two being idiots in love with just a touch of humor.

Summary:

The box is still mocking him.

“Hey,” he greets, because he’s not a neanderthal. Then: “What’s in the box?”

“Hey,” Max greets back. Then, simply because he can and will avoid the subject as long as possible: “How was lunch?”

“Fine. Joris is mad at me, though,” Charles responds, refusing to elaborate because that’s not what needs to be the focus right now. He asks again. “What’s in the box?”

“Why is Joris mad at you?” Max asks, bluntly ignoring Charles’ question once again.

Charles wants to shake him, just a little. “Because I was distracted all through lunch. What’s. In. The. Box?”

“Why were you distra—,”

“Max Emilian Verstappen, what’s in the fucking box?!”

Ilse (@f1writingbyme) and I wrote another chapter, because how could we not following today's press conference with Max and Charles looking like they're on their honeymoon, and Esteban conveniently being sick, causing him to miss the press conference where he was meant to be in their group?

Also, seeing this post from the incredible @il-predestinato when the idea had already been cemented in our brains sealed the deal, and we just had to write something.

It's quite short, but hopefully it will bring you at least some of the same amount of joy as it brought us to write it!

The Seasons of Heartbreak SEQUEL - Sneak peek

Do any of you remember this section from The Seasons of Heartbreak?:

This is the first Christmas without Charles in three years. Max can't bear the thought of spending it without the love of his life. The present he had bought months ago is still hidden in the back of his closet, the deep red, velvety wrapping paper still as wrinkle-free as the day he bought it, wrapped by the lovely young woman in the store. He was so proud to have found a gift that he knew Charles would absolutely love, so excited to see the smile on Charles' face as he unwrapped the little box.

But now? 

Now it's just a nicely wrapped box in his closet, a gift that will forever remain unopened, a thing that will never put that smile on Charles' gorgeous face.

Max can't bring himself to throw the gift away.

Charles pauses in the doorway, allowing himself a moment to just stare at his boyfriend, allowing himself a moment to revel in the fact that this is real. He gets to come home to Max every single day, and that realization makes his heart do a little somersault in his chest. But then his attention moves from Max’s beautiful face and to the box wrapped in red on the island in front of him, and the Monégasque is quickly brought out of his thoughts. 

The box is still mocking him.

Summary:

As the ‘I can’t do this anymore’ slipped from his lips, Charles missed his exit and continued straight ahead, unable to fully see the exit sign through his tears.

The tears fill his eyes as quickly now as they had done in his car that day, and Charles finds himself realizing that he hasn’t felt happiness since. Not even once.

Once again @f1writingbyme and I have combined forces to write yet another silly Lestappen + The grid fic in celebration of the first race week of the season, and as Ilse promised yesterday, the result of that has now been posted!

This is the silly prequel to the silly 19 Times The Grid Saved Lestappen (And One Time They Didn't Need To), and takes place during the 2021 season.

Summary:

A secret relationship is fun. It's exciting, arousing even, to know something that no one else knows except you and your significant other. The sneaking around, trying not to get caught, is exhilarating. The hiding in storage rooms, bathroom stalls, closets, and even under a pile of clothes, trying your best not to get caught, and the giggling afterward, the shared pride of having managed to stay hidden, is romantic.

Or at least it's supposed to be.

Because Charles thinks that being in a secret relationship with Max Verstappen and having eighteen nosy friends and colleagues invade your personal space almost twenty-four hours a day for several weeks a year does not help. In fact, Charles is sure it's doing something to his heart, and not in a good I'm-in-love-and-my-heart-skips-a-beat kind of way.

No. Charles is pretty sure he is going to die of a heart attack at the age of only twenty-six because of all the sneaking around and almost getting caught every time.

The only positive thing they have going for them is that they haven't been caught yet. How that's possible, Charles isn't sure, but he thinks it might have something to do with the fact that their friends either aren't paying much attention or are just plain stupid.

Charles secretly hopes it's the last one.

But of course, luck is not on Charles’ side, as one Mr Lando Norris, tucked away in the safety of his driver's room on the other side of the paddock, is typing away on his phone.
