summary; you come to john’s rescue so he doesn’t fail his test. conversation takes a turn :p
word count; 2 283
warnings; flufliness 🤗🤗
********
On Wednesdays, your older sister was in charge of doing the shopping, but fever had confined her to her bed. By strict orders of your mother, the responsibility was now yours.
That’s why you ran late to meet Mrs Smith and her nephew.
As you stood alone in the hallway, awkward and reluctant, you wished your arrival at 251 Menlon Avenue had been interrupted by the stupidest distraction. Or that you’d have declined to come when you had the opportunity to.
Hearing them arguing upstairs wasn’t what you wanted to do with your evening. Neither was helping John to study for the math test he had the morning after. You couldn’t work miracles, and with this transparency you explained it to your grandma when she compelled you to lend him a hand.
She and Mimi had been good friends for years, and when they were together drinking tea last week, Mimi vented to her how John would distress her in the school field. Music, the young lad was only interested in music. His grades were pitiful, and she found herself running out of stratagems to incite John to get back on track. The guy managed to pass the rest of the subjects, but mathematics were an ordeal for him.
He despised numbers just as he despised having to waste time restricting his Gallotone when he could be rehearsing instead.
“Give me back the guitar, Mimi. Where do you have it?”
“You won’t see it until I hear from the test’s result”
“I’m trying my best!”
“Try harder”
There was a truculent silence that wasn’t a silence per se. They stopped talking, but John’s frantic steps as he paced around the room rummaging around and removing furniture from its place hoping the guitar would be hiding behind were unmistakable.
“It’s not there,” she said, nuisance reflected in her tone, expression inexpressive.
“Unless you ate it it must be somewhere in the house”
Mimi didn’t answer.
“Because it’s in the house, correct?”
Mimi exhaled, giving him a hostile glare. They weren’t in a state where she could throw money around like it was nothing. If she bought him the guitar, it wasn’t to resell it or dispose of it afterwards.
“Of course it is in the house. I’ll return it if you comply with our deal”
After Mimi drew the line, you heard the woman walking down the stairs.
Straightening up, you clasped nervously your fingers around your schoolbag’s strap.
She placed her peculiar hat on top of her hair and covered her figure with a long winter coat. Its corseted structure in the middle cinched in around her already lean frame.
“Do your best” she told you, making sure that she had everything she needed on her. “If you feel like hitting him, you have my permission”
“You’re leaving?”
“I have errands to run”
When Mimi walked over to you, she stopped by your side and looked you up and down.
“The shoes. You dirtied my carpet”
“I’m sorry, Mrs Smith”
You intended to offer cleaning it up yourself until it looked like it did before, but she had other plans.
“When you’re gone I’ll tell John to handle it, the boy lacks discipline. Anyone would think he’s being raised in a jungle rather than a humble home in the northwestern of England and I wouldn’t be able to contradict them”
You had nothing to respond her with, but she didn’t look like she was interested in hearing an answer.
She rekindled her step and marched out the house, half with hurry half slipping away in case John reappeared to keep niggling over how unfair she was.
You’d been in their home previously. Once.
John had been the sergeant who lead the army, devising a prank which sloshed over onto you. Army because his two friends were the ones to set the trap, John keeping his hands clean as the commander and mastermind he thought was. They put a paint bucket on top of the classroom door frame, and the three patiently waited to see who the victim would be.
You spent hours in the shower scraping the tacky liquid off your skin.
That same day, your grandma and you showed up at their doorstep because she wanted him to apologize.
The incident was the reason why you knew where he lived.
You eased down into one of the chairs in the kitchen and dropped your bag onto the table.
John knew you were there, you wouldn’t go searching for him.
Thing is, time went on, and he wouldn’t make an appearance. You checked your wristwatch and cursed. Almost fifteen minutes had ticked by and you were waiting like an idiot for someone who clearly did not care enough.
“Am I dreaming or did I just hear (Y/N) (Y/L/N) saying a bad word?”
You flinched and brought a hand up to your chest.
Looking to the left, you saw him standing barefoot in the doorway with his arms stretched upwards, gripping at the doorframe. Legs crossed at the ankles, a wicked grin curved his lips. He was wearing a white cotton tee and denim trousers that fit him tight in the thighs.
Once recovered from the shock, you shot him a bitter look.
“You’re wasting my time, you know that? The longer you delay it, the worse”
“I’ve had better,” he said, walking over to the sink where two large vertical windows on the wall displayed a perfect view of the back porch.
He closed them, grabbed a plain black sweatshirt that hung from the chair opposite you and put it over his head, messing up even more his already tousled humid hair. It was clear that he had a shower before you showed up. If he hadn’t had, it would be replicating Presley’s.
Until then you didn’t realise that the room was indeed chilly.
“Better what?”
“Better days. Thank you for asking and showing interest” he said, waving vaguely a hand.
He slumped in that same chair and glanced across at you.
“How are you, by the way?”
“Fed up. Tell me what you don’t understand and we’ll practice” you said, pulling out of the schoolbag the book and your pencil case.
John calmly watched you prepare everything. “Geometry, algebraic equations…  The entire book, if you will”
“If that’s the case, I see logic in noting down formulas first, that way you can try and memorize them too” you lifted your gaze and saw him with both hands plunged in the front pocket of his sweatshirt, shoulders relaxed. “Hello? Aren’t you getting something to write on?”
He let silence reign for a moment.
“Out of all the people in class, it had to be you,” he grumbled. You didn’t have a clue about what that was supposed to mean, but now his eyes were piercing into yours to the point where you felt very small very quick. He bounced to his feet with a huff. “I’ll be right back”
Upon his return, he carried with him a notebook with doodlings drawn by him on the cover and a pencil hanging loose between his teeth. Along the way, at some point, he tugged the hood over his face, so now you couldn’t see the top half of it.
He took the seat again and with an unfriendly look began copying the theory.
“If you’d paid attention from the beginning perhaps you wouldn’t be against the clock now”
“I can’t focus if you speak,” he grunted.
“You’re just copying” you said, raising your left eyebrow. “But alright, I’ll shut it”
When he was done, he tossed the pencil and dragged his hands down his face, pulling at the skin under the eyes.
“I hate this” he condemned.
“You hate everything that doesn’t involve music” you clarified, no malice in your statement.
“That’s not true” he scowled, pushing the hood back, actually feeling insulted.
“Alright, tell me something you don’t hate,” you propped your elbows onto the table, laced your fingers and rested your chin there.
“I don’t hate the singing of birds waking me up in the morning, and I don’t hate hanging out with you”
As much as you tried to hide it, John saw how your lips tipped up.
“Am I supposed to feel touched?”
“I’d be really sad if you didn’t. That was smooth”
“Oh wow yes, so smooth, the smoothest” you sneered, taking his notebook to write down a few problems for him to resolve.
“Smoothest” he echoed. “Is that a word?”
“It is” you weren’t sure if he was serious.
“Sounds strange to me, never used it before”
“Venustraphobia sounds awful as well and it’s a real term”
“What does it mean?”
“Fear of attractive women”
“Holy shit, is that true?” he asked, fiddling now with his pencil.
“Yeah”
“So that’s a thing. Does the phobia exist the other way around? Women fearing handsome men?”
“I guess?”
He nodded, amused. “It must be hard for you”
Confused, you raised your eyes and cocked your head with an inquisitive frown.
“Collecting yourself, I mean” he explained, rubbing a hand over his jaw. “You’re doing a terrific job pretending you’re not suffering. As you might know, I’m quite charming myself”
You just stared back for some time, holding back a laugh until it became impossible to restrain.
John was so much fun when he didn’t behave like a dick, you hated to admit, which only happened when his macho friends were around. He was the leader of the group, sure, but it seemed that all he wanted was acceptance from them, to belong somewhere. Pretty much he let them change him. Although when he wasn’t near them, the carefree happy bouncy John you knew returned each time.
Abs burning from laughing, you doubled over as you hugged your abdomen. This bitch, you thought. Your shoulders kept shaking as you tried to subside your chuckles, but you couldn’t stop.
John observed your reaction placidly.
Bright with delight, his eyes gleamed when you kept patting your thigh as a conduit for the laughter.
“My God” you breathed, fanning yourself.
“It’s rude using my name in vain,” he teased, wagging the accusatory finger in your direction.
“You’re far from being God” you retorted, your chuckles fading. You gave him back his notebook. “Enough chitchat. Do these exercises and I’ll correct them”
You waited then, keeping an eye on him as well as inspecting your nails to pass the time.
He raked a hand through his hair and kept it there, closing it in a fist at the top of his head.
A sappy feeling settled in your stomach. Seeing him saturated after half an hour trying to get something done softened your heart.
He suddenly looked up, but when he caught you looking too, John quickly dropped his head.
Five more minutes and he passed you the notebook.
“Voilà. Now you can laugh at me”
“I’m not gonna laugh at you. No one is born knowing” you responded quietly.
Silently revising his answers, you got distracted remembering one thing he said earlier.
Rosiness present in your cheeks, your gaze settled cautiously upon him. “You don’t like me?”
His brows drew together in deep puzzlement.
“What?”
“‘Out of all the people in class, it had to be you’” you quoted him, your heart beating erratically. You were worried that its pumps would tear a hole in your chest. “I wanna know why you said that. Is it because you don’t like me?”
A muscle tickled in his jaw, but his expression was humourless.
“That’s not it”
You hoped his response would bloom into something more specific, but he remained with his mouth shut, tension building up between the two.
“What’s it?” you pressed.
Darkness igniting his eyes, he leaned back in his chair.
“Answering your previous question, I do. A lot, actually. That’s my issue”
Petrified, your pulse shot to the sky.
“Why is it an issue?”
“We both know why”
Was John Lennon telling you with all his chest that he was interested in dating you but that he’d never acted upon it ‘cause he assumed you were out of his league?
“You didn’t ask me about my feelings, not once”
“Why would I? You’re sweet and smart. I’m none of that”
Oh, Johnny boy. His words cracked your heart. Lies, they were cruel lies.
“What are you doing this Friday?” you inquired. “I don’t know if you know, but I really like painting. I held an exhibition at school—”
“I’m aware. I was there”
Warmth radiating up your body, you fought back a stunned gasp. “You went?”
He never mentioned it before.
Gazing in each other’s eyes longingly, a goofy side smile fleetingly graced his lips.
Electric tingles spread through your nervous system. You composed yourself with a toss of the head. And he dared to say he wasn’t sweet? You were drowning in diabetes.
“My point is, the school’s newspaper asked me to present something new, and I have yet to finish my piece. Maybe, if you want, you could join me and we make each other company. You can bring your guitar and play some music”
You’re adorable, he wanted to interrupt, mouth twitching.
“I guess I could do that” he said instead.
“Awesome” you bit on your bottom lip, thrilled.
“I’m concerned, though”
“Concerned?” your eyebrows snapped together. Was he having second thoughts? “About what?”
“Concerned that I will start developing venustraphobia now that I’m gonna spend more time with you”
Your laughter hugged his soul.
John contemplated stupefied how easy you made it to fall in love.
Just hearing your giggles was enough for him to understand he could never compose a melody more lovely and magical than that.

Hey everyone, thanks for stopping to check out my Diabetes Freedom review & learn what the program by George Reilly is all about.
If you believe you will able to reverse your diabetes with medicines and insulin shots, then you are highly mistaken. It makes me so angry only thinking why more and more Americans are getting into this diabetes trap even after on average, we Americans are consuming less sugar than before.
The mere fact is, the government that should protect us is withholding crucial information form us and letting us fall into the money-trap of the multi-billion pharmaceutical industry.
Anyway, let’s cut the chase…
Tumblr media
[Visit The Official Website Here to Order Now!]
What Is Diabetes Freedom All About?
Diabetes Freedom teaches how to flush out the root cause of diabetes and fat that is the ceramide compound.
Scientists of the University of Utah discovered that the level of ceramide was very high in all people with diabetes they’ve tested in their research. So, flushing out this toxic molecule makes sense.
It includes a 3-step approach that makes it easy to do it.
And because these three steps are entirely natural and they not only help you to reverse diabetes but also help you lose weight, this is something you should not miss out.
Many people reversed their diabetes and stopped using diabetes medicines; you can also do it.
This program actually made up of many different products.
After you complete your payment process, you will be redirected to the secret members’ area where you able to download books or watch tutorial videos (created by Andrea Arona – a certified nutritional expert and personal trainer.)
This program also drips the content into different sections so that the information isn’t overwhelming for the new customers, and you can understand the treatment approach as you go along.
I am thrilled with the Diabetes Freedom program as I don’t feel overwhelmed when I go through the program, and new content sent to me every day in my email.
Here’s What You Get With Diabetes Freedom:
Tumblr media
Diabetes Freedom Manual & Quick Start Accelerator (in the members area).
Meal Preparation Guide (cut the guessing game with it)

Fat Burning Blueprint (for overweight people who want to lose weight)
[Video] Nutrition Guide For Diabetes Type 2
[Video] Meal-Timing Strategies
[Video] Food Shopping Guide
[Video] Body Movement For Beating Type 2 Diabetes
No Recurring or Hidden Charges (which I love)
I’ll be honest, I purchase this program just for the main guide/book, but the bonuses are so much valuable.
I started this program from its free bonus called ‘Fat Burning Blueprint’ because I was a few pounds overweight and wanted to lose it as fast as possible. This is just a 9-page guide because it contains an exact plan without any fluff or filler content.
This free report gives out a 30-minute plan that you can incorporate to burn those extra pounds and improve blood circulation in your body. It also teaches how to get fast results with High-Intensity Interval Training.
Obesity is a primary reason for diabetes, so maintaining your weight should be your top-most priority.
For losing weight or maintaining it to a healthy level, all you need is just 30 minutes of exercise. And, you can start the 4-week weight loss plan provided in this blueprint.

How Diabetes Freedom Really Work? (3-Step Approach)
Step 1 – The Pancreas Restart Plan (Temporary Nutrition Plan) The primary objective of this plan is to target and destroy fat cells. This nutrition plan provides a ‘restart’ to your pancreas that gives a good boost for losing weight.
Once you follow this plan for two weeks, your pancreas will start working, and your body will regulate blood sugar without any help. This nutrition plan is easy and you don’t need to make unrealistic changes in your daily routine. You can enjoy delicious food while all the good things will happen in your body.
This section provides a detailed plan to detox the liver and flush out toxins from the body. This detox plan includes five powerful teas that also melt fat cells and beat food cravings.
Step 2 – Brown Fat Boosting Blueprint: Inside the video section, you will get a 2-minute routine that will help you to remain on the top of your fat-burning game.
This 2-minute routine is simple and doesn’t need any special equipment. You can also perform this routine in your home without any expensive or complicated workout equipment.
These movements work for anyone regardless of your fitness level, and anyone can do them with minimal effects.
Step 3 – Meal Timing: These meal timings designed to reverse diabetes type 2. Many people don’t know that one of the significant rules of defeating diabetes is eating the right food at the right time.
This section contains a 60-second breakfast tricks to help you stay full and active all day. This breakfast meal includes healthy and tasty snacks to keep you satisfied.
A dessert section also included in this step that you can use without feeling bad.
Six Things I Like Most In Diabetes Freedom:
Helps In Controlling Blood Sugar Naturally Many studies have shown numerous diabetic patients able to keep their blood sugar level in a normal level with the help of dietary changes and losing weight.
You can also work closely with a nutritionist or doctor to set up a proper plan for you or you can use strategies and plans provided inside the Diabetes Freedom program to make changes in your life and control your blood sugar levels.
Easy Nutrition Plan That You Can Follow: A good and healthy nutrition plan should not make you feel restricted and deprived. You don’t need to completely cut off carbs from your life to make impressive dietary changes.
The nutrition plan you will get inside this program is divided into three parts and include meal-timing strategies and meal plans. It is easier to stick with this nutrition plan and get results quickly.
Helps In Weight Loss:
This is the most important benefit I like in this program. When I was overweight, I lost 15 pounds in a month just by making some dietary changes in my diet and without exercise. You may lose some pounds by using nutrition plan provided in the Diabetes Freedom.
According to John Hopkins Medicines, losing just 5 to 10 percent of the body weight can provide a positive impact on the blood sugar level and lower the risk of diabetes by 58 percent.
Freedom From Medicines And Shots: We all know diabetes medicines and insulin shots are just a ‘temporary fix’ to normalize blood sugar and the long term use of these medicines create many negative effects on the body.
For example, a popular diabetes medicine, metformin causes kidney problems, metal taste, and dizziness. Similarly, insulin shots can drop a person’s sugar level to an extremely low level which is dangerous and needs to be treated immediately.
Relatively Inexpensive: For creating this Diabetes Freedom review, we bought this program for $40. However, on our last visit to the official website, we found the author is offering a $10 discount. This means you can get the whole program in just $30.
This is a huge benefit for people who are interested in this program and what to try it out. However, we don’t know how long the author will continue to offer this discount.
Even without this discount, we feel that Diabetes Freedom delivers more than its actual value. And don’t forget you get four VIP bonuses if you get it now.
Good Testing Period: You will have sixty days to test this program and see if it helps you or not.
Within these sixty days, if you don’t see any positive changes in your body or in your blood sugar level or if you don’t like it for any reason, you can get your full money back.
To get your money back, all you have to do is to send a single email with the title ‘Refund,’ and you will get a list of few steps that help you to get your money back within 24 hours.
Tumblr media
My ‘Diabetes Freedom’ Review Verdict
So, here I am, with almost 1000 words in this Diabetes Freedom review, by now, you can see this program delivers, in fact, it OVER delivers for what you’re paying for. Up till now, I never admitted in public; I am a diabetic.
I definitely want to give this program a high rating because it teaches methods that are practical, simple, and easy to implement. Before going through this program, I’ve secretly tested my sugar level and taking pills.
This Diabetes Freedom program gave me the confidence to take good steps, and finally within four weeks of following this program, by post-meal glucose level went down from 245 to 200 level. I am pretty sure I will get it to the normal level this year.
I am recommending this diabetes reversing program to my friends and family members.
My final recommendation is to pick Diabetes Freedom from its official website, follow it for at least four weeks and then come back here again to let us know what you think about it!

This free report gives out a 30-minute plan that you can incorporate to burn those ugly pounds and improve blood circulation in your body.
Step 1 – The Pancreas Restart Plan (Temporary Nutrition Plan)
The primary objective of this plan is to target and destroy fat cells.
Step 2 – Brown Fat Boosting Blueprint:
Inside the video section, you will get a 2-minute routine that will help you to remain on the top of your fat-burning game. This 2-minute routine is simple and doesn’t need any special equipment. You can also perform this routine in your home without any expensive or complicated workout equipment. These movements work for anyone regardless of your fitness level, and anyone can do them with minimal effects.
Step 3 – Meal Timing:
These meal timings designed to reverse diabetes type 2.
Helps In Controlling Blood Sugar Naturally
Many studies have shown numerous diabetic patients able to keep their blood sugar level in a normal level with the help of dietary changes and losing weight. You can also work closely with a nutritionist or doctor to set up a proper plan for you or you can use strategies and plans provided inside the Diabetes Freedom program to make changes in your life and control your blood sugar levels.
Easy Nutrition Plan That You Can Follow:
A good and healthy nutrition plan should not make you feel restricted and deprived.
Freedom From Medicines And Shots:
We all know diabetes medicines and insulin shots are just a ‘temporary fix’ to normalize blood sugar and the long term use of these medicines create many negative effects on the body. For example, a popular diabetes medicine, metformin causes kidney problems, metal taste, and dizziness. Similarly, insulin shots can drop a person’s sugar level to an extremely low level which is dangerous and needs to be treated immediately.
Tumblr media
Relatively Inexpensive:
For creating this Diabetes Freedom review, we bought this program for $40.
Good Testing Period:
You will have sixty days to test this program and see if it helps you or not.
I will share this diabetes reversing program with my friends and family members. My final recommendation is to pick Diabetes Freedom via this link, follow it for at least four weeks and then come back here again to let us know what you think about it!

My grandfather died like 5 years ago and I really had to try hard to feign sympathy about it to him. My grandmother is still kicking it but we haven’t spoken in over a decade for good reason. Pandemic Notes #3 (Things I love)
It’s windy and gray outside, which means that by the time I finish writing this, the skies will open up and it’ll be one of those Texas spring deluges that generates flash flood warning and tiny toad spawns. I don’t dislike days like this, and in the right mood, I kind of dig them. They’re interesting and there’s been little enough of that going around of late.
I’m loving the way that social media has become list-and-meme driven like it’s 2005 again. The sense of social in social networking had been almost choked out of it. But what do I know? I’m an old LiveJournal guy who still remembers the markup for hiding stuff behind a cut.
Anyway, one of the more popular lists going around right now is the one where you name ten things that most people like that you don’t. It’s a fun exercise and I think I may have even responded to one of them on Twitter, but today, I think I’m going to name ten things that I love right now; ten things that are giving me good feelings in the here-and-now. My therapist would be proud. In no particular order:
1. My cat, Winjamin Failclaw
This doofus is determined to make the most of my home-bounditude. He’s an oddity in that he used to be a lap cat but isn’t so much anymore. He instead prefers to wait until I am at least somewhat-reclined and climbs up on my chest with his paws over my shoulder. This is not optimal for video conferencing. Well, it is not optimal for me. He doesn’t seem to mind in the least. He’s getting on in years so it’s nice to seem him become more affectionate as time goes by.
2. These pens now that I got the #$^%^ ink working
A few years ago, I got a nifty Lamy Safari fountain pen and bought some beautiful ink to go with it. And, after a while, I stopped using it because it just never seemed to work worth a damn. The ink, unlike the spice, did not flow. Also, I wasn’t thrilled with the medium-sized nib I had on it.
So, I thought I’d get a finer nib and it turned out that you’re pretty much better off just buying another pen. It’s easy to switch the nibs on ‘em. The new pen came with some generic ink and it worked perfectly with either nib. I finally put two and two together and looked up how to thin out ink. It turns out you…add water. Yep, that’s all there is to it. And now the fancy ink works beautifully, even with the fine nib. Simultaneously happy and embarrassed. These pens are a real joy to write with, but I feel kinda dumb that it took so long to figure out what was wrong.
3. My apocalypse playlists
Just a little something to get me through the night. The first one, my favorite, is mostly soft and sad. The second is instrumental (a lot of post-rock, if that’s your bag), and the third is industrial. Enjoy!
4. My wife Nicole
Here’s where my luck really kicks in. It turns out we really enjoy spending time together and tend not to get in each other’s way. Working from home these last three weeks has been tough on me, but it’s nothing to do with her. Instead, she’s making me feel loved and welcome in small, surprising ways that have helped keep me moving when it would be far easier not to.
5. My ridiculous hobby and all the toys associated with it
I am not a musician. Not. Even. Close. However, I’m worse at singing than anything else, so I have to find some other way to scratch that itch. Thanks to the sounds of Side 3 of Genesis’ Three Sides Live, I am a keyboard guy. I love the sounds, I love the feel, I love the way they work, I love composing, and I especially love playing along with songs I, um…love. That’s too many “loves” for one sentence.
Anyway, I’ve been collecting and playing the things since I bought Kevin Corrigan’s Sequential Prelude back in high school. I’ve owned, at one time or another…too many to list. They’re a marvelous hobby to sink myself into when I can’t leave the apartment and need to dump some anxiety.
6. Baking bread
Yeah, I know everyone’s doing this now, to which I say: “Good for everyone!” I’m using an absurdly slow sourdough recipe that is finally yielding the kind of results I’ve been hoping for since I baked my first loaf of bread. It takes a couple days to make, but I’m finally getting all of the elements that I’ve been looking for.
It’s also just weirdly satisfying to do something like this as a reaction to difficult financial times. It feels like I’m contributing (I can feel Nicole’s side-eye here as she’s doing the lion’s share of shopping and cooking) in a way that is very hands on way.
7. This ridiculous little espresso maker
Nicole bought this because she doesn’t care for drip coffee. $30 on Amazon and with some seriously sketchy reviews (“Tends to explode”), but for the price, it can’t be beat. It’s not especially…espresso-y…but it’s a good, strong bracing splash of coffee to start one’s day.
It’s lasted a few years already and it paid for itself in about a week, so, yeah. Love this little guy. He’s my best friend first thing in the morning.
8. The pond
Staying in one place generally means you don’t get a lot of variety in your view. We’re fortunate in that we chose a place to live that has far more windows than most apartments. Most of what we can see is “other apartments” which can be amusing, especially when the lady across the street is throwing things at her mother, but otherwise…they’re apartments. On the other hand, we also have the pond. Yes, I know. It’s really just a runoff collection tank to help alleviate floods, but it’s still pretty pond-y. We get ducks, coots, and egrets. We get turtles and snails. We also get snakes and bats, which have their charm but are more charming at a distance. It’s also directly west of us, so we get some pretty decent sunsets.
9. Our giant bathtub
Our bathtub is huge. When you’re depressed and bored and just kind of over it, a giant bathtub is a big plus. I’m 6’3” and I fit in it pretty comfortably. And, since we don’t pay for water (directly, at least), we can be a little lavish in our usage of said tub.
I know, baths aren’t for men. But, what a waste of time to worry about what is and isn’t for “men”. Baths feel good. That’s plenty for me. I’ll let y’all argue about who they’re for while I’m having a good soak.
10. You
Yep, I got all hokey and sentimental at the end of this, but it’s true! In our little space capsule, bound for six weeks or six months into the future, connections are different than they were. I hate hate hate talking on the phone, so this internet is pretty much it for me. Seeing what y’all are doing, what you’re going through, and sharing reactions is a huge help for me right now.
Things still suck, but not everything sucks, if that makes any sense. Thank you for being there, for being here, for being wherever you are in these strange, unmoored times. Saying that makes me think “Gee, I wish Kurt Vonnegut could write about this era,” which is a true thing to think. But, it would also be a good time for John Steinbeck, J. G. Ballard, or Kazuo Ishiguro. Of course, the definitive work may have already been written by Emily St. John Mandel, huh? OK, that was a bit of a digression. I’ll end it here. Take care of yourselves, ok?

Week 6
Hey Guys! I’m switching the way I post. I’ll focus on posting about the highlights of the week from now on! :)
DAY 38 Monday (13 August) We started the day with morning exercise - walked round nib stadium, played scarecrow.
Tumblr media
For Quiet time, God said you are good. And I said I am good because you are good. And I got the song, let the king of my heart. I ask God what his mission was for me today? It was to look after a friend who was recently heartbroken. How? To love and care for her. We had worship with the whole ywam.. it was all about the goodness of God which was exactly what I had during quiet time!! The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7 NLT. We had a very productive band practice and started tweaking things here and there! :D Also we started on our weekly topic, “Holy Spirit” by Rachel Mcgirr.
Tumblr media
We also did rehearsals at night as usual for dance numbers! Also I saw that Abby from priceless had left me a note <3 So much loveeeeee! miss her
Tumblr media
DAY 39 Tuesday (14 August) During Qt.. God was reminding me to move away from slave mentality to child of God mentality. It occurred to me during lecture the day before that I still retained aspects of a “slave mentality” instead of relying on God and pursuing a more purposeful relationship with God. Today was also my turn to do a “God Talk”. It’s basically you teaching your small group about an aspect of God. I was really thinking of what to talk about even to the day. That morning, God wanted me to repent of greed of money. I had thoughts of wanting to keep donations for myself so that I didn’t have to pay more for outreach but God said it’s not for me. So I repented and made sure all went to David and Abigail. He reminded me that He is the God of the plentiful. God our provider. And that was what I decided to talk about in small group. The bunch of us went to Emma’s.
The Gist was... When we say let’s keep it for ourselves you are telling God, God u are not enough for me. When we aren't generous - we withhold the blessings that another person could receive, we aren’t being channels of blessings. And I ask them to spend some time and ask God to reveal to you areas of your life that is stuck in this slave mentality.. It was pretty cool because God talked to through of them from this God talk. They also had that mindset.
I sang with Caleb and Gyu which I had not ever done before after dinner! That was fun! Also spent some time updating the team newsletter. We ended the day with song rehearsals and the learning of a new dance for greatest showman.
DAY 40 Wednesday (15 August) During Quiet time: God said I am enough so you are enough. I said You are enough but I am not and He said you are enough for me. Your everything is enough for me. I felt a hug from the back with one arm across my shoulders and the other across the top of my head.
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 1 John 3:1 NLT
Brought to mind, my dad and I our relationship. He doesn't want anything else accept to receive my love in return. God doesn't ask for anymore than who we are. Children of God. Like when I heard them from God, I had an image of my own father squatting down with arms wide open and with a huge smile just waiting for me to run into his arms. It might be tear a lot! <3 During worship, we did something different, there was a part where if God was asking you to lay something down, you lay it in front of the cross. God told me to lay Unworthyness down. My greed, my not enoughness - The root was unworthyness and I needed to proclaim the truth of God's word in my life. During lecture Rachel said this - The only sin you're not forgiven for is the sin u don't want forgiveness for. Forgiveness is for us. Unforgivenness is like drinking poison and wishing for the other to die. Things to really think about.  I had one on one with Abigail that day and as we reflected, I came to the conclusion that I want to know Holy spirit as a person instead of just His function. How to tell him apart from Jesus, spiritual authority and father or some sort of energy.
DAY 41 Thursday (16 August) During quiet time, I was asking Holy Spirit... Can I separate holy spirit from the trinity in my mind? He said No, we are one in the same. I reflected and realise that Holy Spirit is wise .. He reminds me of the book of proverbs. He doesn't give the whole picture but he gives nuggets of wisdom to prompt u in the right direction. It was also Sarah’s bday the following day but her birthday table was set up today! So after dinner, we went down to IGA and I bought her fudge!! - Her favourite! :D
Tumblr media
DAY 42 Friday (17 August) During Quiet Time, Holy Spirit convicted me to apologise to David and Abigail about being pushy for the newsletter to get out. David was under the pump to get ready to Camp and I wasn’t a little fustrated that I was trying so hard to get the newsletter out earlier in hopes, to get our info out to send to others and see if we could finish our funding! I had no time to edit the night before so I went to the base early this morning. After I ate breakfast, I went back to the dorm and felt that I needed to kneel and thank God for David, Abigail - they sacrifice so much to staff the DTS and all I was doing was a newsletter. I apologised to them as well and thanked them for their hard work! :) Today was also application day, we repented and made right with people. It was like repentance week all over again. We also had a choice to go up to Randy (Trust Fall), Cristine(Breaking Generational Curses) and Rachel(Receiving of gifts of the holy spirit - tongues etc). I prayed and felt like I needed to do the trust fall. I feel that I trust God but still not completely. You’d have to climb up this stack of chairs and shout God I trust you (as a public declaration) and fall backwards. Randy would catch you. It was hard for me because I am afraid of heights and when I got on, the stack of chairs almost toppled. But I did it anyway and I felt like a burden lift. I also got to pray for Karmen and Emma for healing so that was cool! They got healed by the Holy Spirit. It was also Evangelism day, so Alex and I paired up. She asked me if I just wanted to stand along the street and shout out my testimony. I must say fear really gripped me. I didn’t feel prepared for it. So we walked on, I was praying all along the way. God was saying.. Do you trust me? I said yes. Then do you know I have good thoughts towards these people? I said Yes I do. Then He said, all I want you to do is share My love for them. And I said ok. We did talk to a couple of people. Prayed for some. I was prompted by this lady so was a little disorientated. But I beckon her to come to me after she had walked away and I asked her if I could pray for God’s love on her and she said yes. And I prayed. We also talked to this chatty lady along the street and we talked with her for a good 1 hr 30mins. She was very concerned about her friend and the Holy Spirit prompted her to ask us about the friend in question. Surprisingly, the answers we gave her were based on what we had learnt during the week. About, how choosing sin is saying no to God. and if she is a follower of Christ, she must choose. In the end, we had dinner together and went back to base. I had time to finish my journal and went for friday service. The dude, Mark talked about the Hebrew education system and greek education system. That was interesting!
DAY 43-44 Saturday & Sunday (18-19 August) CAMPING TRIP!!! We brought our stuff to the auditorium at 9am and had breakfast. Packed and left, reached about 11ish? Just before Lunch, Emma Leonie and I went for a walk - we found money on the floor, saw some horses and made friends with the doggie who lives in the opposite house. Little did we know, the dog followed us back to the campsite. Ben had to bring him back to the neighbour hahaa! We had a quick lunch and went down the childow town centre - hung there til about 4ish. Came back for dinner and played capture the flag. It was very fun but at the same time, Tim got a broken collarbone, Kate scrapped her knee, Jonathan split his toenail, Kevin scrapped his knee and so did Noemi. After that, we sat by the campfire which was so good because it was literally freezing that night. After that, showered and slept like a log.
Woke up really early at 7am the next morning, freshen up and walked around the campsite, smelling the fresh air and admiring God’s creation. I was a little concerned about our finances for outreach and God says to lean on me for the finances. So I said okay I will. We had breakfast and I was on  breakfast clean up duty. After that, Leonie and I walked to the Lake! It was beautiful, on the way we saw these little duckies and also got to pat some horses. That was fun. After that, we came for lunch and started to pack away our stuff. We also had to clean up the campsite. I was on toilet cleaning duty. Unfortunately for me, someone had taken a huge dung and it clogged the toilet... so guess who had to unclog it? Yes, yours truly. We packed and left. The heat was crazy though and throughout the whole trip I sat on the sunny side. After coming back to the 228, I literally put on my sheets back and changed and took a one hr nap. It was sooooo gooood.. then I came back to base for dinner and finished up this online journal! :D

Cluster Outing
Better late than never. After coming home finishing this blog sort of fell to the side and I’ve been meaning to finish it up ever since. It’s been about two years since my rotation but I wanted to make sure I got in the last few weekend trips I took during my rotation. By the end, we were going somewhere every weekend so no time to blog!
Once a year, each “cluster” goes on a “cluster outing” to different parts of the Philippines, or even to other countries in Southeast Asia, as a team building exercise to build camaraderie within the service line/group.  I was lucky enough to be doing my rotation when the outing was scheduled, and we went way, way up north to Ilocos (Norte and Sur) for 4 days. It was a pretty packed weekend with a minute by minute itinerary, so here we go:
We started off with another overnight bus ride from Manila to Baguio (this has become the common method of travel to save on hotel costs) arriving around 7am on Friday morning. We spent the first day in Baguio checking out the sites and playing team building games at the house we rented out for the day.  After the games we got to spend a decent amount of time touring around the city seeing some of the popular spots: famous haunted house, the President’s Northern Mansion, “Mine View” lookout point, the Manor Hotel, Camp John Hay, and the Easter Weaving Room.  Side story, during our trip up to Sagada a few weekends before this trip I found a beautiful, hand woven blanket with the red, orange, and white colors of the Bontoc mountain province when we were stopped at the Banaue Rice Terrace lookout point. As soon as I saw it I knew my sister would love it but the tour guide convinced me to wait to find it cheaper somewhere else. We spent the rest of that weekend stopping at every shop but I never found one that I liked as much. Our driver, Paul, told me that he knew of a place in Baguio called the Easter Weaving Room where he was sure I would be able to find one, but the problem was that we weren’t going back through Baguio on that trip. Well, as luck would have it, we started off the cluster outing by going back to Baguio so I contacted Paul and he took me to the Easter Weaving Room to find the blanket. After about 45 minutes searching through everything they had I still hadn’t found one with the same color scheme and pattern. Finally, I found a section of the store with huge rolls of fabrics and decided to try to make a custom one as close to the one I was looking for. I found two swaths of fabric which represented the Paracelies Mountain Province that were very similar to the color scheme and pattern I was looking for and asked how long it would take to make. Their first response was 15 days, but we were leaving that night to the next stop on our tour so that wouldn’t work. This is where Paul stepped in and I’m not sure what he said but somehow 15 days turned into 4 hours. They told us to come back later that night after the shop had closed to pick it up, but that I had to pay right then and there. I put my faith in Paul and paid them.  We returned later that evening and, after searching around the building for someone to let us in, I saw a bag sitting on the counter with a card with my name on it. I breathed a sigh of relief when I finally got my hands on the finished blanket. It was perfect, and my sister ended up loving it.  Paul’s willingness to go so far out of his way to help me out was representative of so many people I met throughout my trip, and I truly owe him a debt of gratitude.
We left Baguio Friday night around 11pm for another overnight bus ride to Laoag, which is the capital of Ilocos Norte, arriving at the Paoay Sand Dunes early the next morning to ride 4x4s and try out sand boarding (definitely one of the highlights of the trip so far..imagine snowboarding but harder to control). Next we visited the Marcos Ancestral House in Batac, near the town of Sarrat where Ferdinand Marcos was born.  It’s the house where he grew up and it contains lots of memorabilia of Marcos and his family.  I noticed right away that people in this region generally will only refer to him as “Former President Marcos”. They revere him the same way I had noticed people from other parts of the Philippines revere Jose Rizal.
Marcos is an interesting topic of discussion, especially today because as I am writing this there are huge protests taking place in the Philippines after the new, highly controversial president, Rodrigo Duterte, ordered a “hero’s burial” of Marcos’ body in the Libingan ng mga Bayani cemetery which is reserved for national heros.  Marco’s body had been preserved and was housed on display in Batac since his death, but Duterte decided to order a flash burial and had the remains flown to the cemetery for a private ceremony with the media barred from attending. This decision was met with extreme criticism from those who remember the harsh realities of Marcos’ dictatorship, saying he does not deserve to be buried there, and some are now calling for the removal of his body.  While many people only remember the final years of his presidency, which ended with the People Power Revolution (or “EDSA Revolution”) in 1986 where the people rose up and overthrew his dictatorship, simultaneously ending his rule of Martial Law, most people from this region and a lot of the younger generation only focus on his early years where he excelled in sports and academia, graduating Cum Laude from law school and earning the highest marks on the bar exam. He was widely known for his oratory skills which were highlighted when, at just 23 years old, he famously, and successfully, defended himself in the Philippines Supreme Court in a murder trial where he was accused of killing his father’s main political rival, Julio Nalundasan, the day after Nalundasan defeated his father in a race for a seat in the National Assembly. His successful academic career translated into a successful legal and political career, culminating in his first presidency in 1965. It was at this point where his legacy really took shape in the form of a series of detrimental economic decisions and corruption that crippled the Philippine economy, while at the same time he was amassing an astounding personal fortune for himself and his wife, Imelda.  In his second term he instituted Martial Law, effectively stripping citizens of their Constitutional rights and ruled the country as a dictatorship under his decree.  By 1985, public discontent was so strong that Marcos called for a “snap election” to try to prove that he was still supported by the majority, but after two different polling organizations each declared different winners it was clear the votes had been manipulated, which resulted in even more unrest. By 1986, the people had had enough and rallied together to overthrow him. Marcos fled to Guam, and eventually Hawaii, where his long standing ties to the United States allowed him to flee safely onto American soil.  Regardless of how you view him, he truly was a remarkable man who left a long lasting impact that the country will feel for generations.  His wife Imelda, their son Bongbong, and his sister Imee, all continue to hold political positions and are viewed in high regard for being part of the royal Marcos family.
After the Marcos Ancestral House, we went to “Malacanang of the North”, which is an expansive mansion with great views of Paoay Lake. It was a birthday gift from Imelda to Ferdinand on his 60th birthday, and was one of many properties sequestered by the Philippine government upon his removal from power. But, in 2011, it was returned to the northern state of Ilocos, renovated, and turned into a museum with plenty more memorabilia from Marcos’s life. After that we went to see the Paoay Church, which is a temple-like church resembling the Cambodian temples of Angkor Wat. We took some pictures but weren’t allowed to go in.  On we went and finally checked into the Texicano Hotel, still in Ilocos Norte. This would be our first real bed in two nights so everyone was pretty happy. After playing some basketball with the locals, we went to a nearby restaurant to celebrate koya Junel’s birthday with a traditional kamayan (eat with your hands off a huge banana leaf) style dinner, then played more team-building games before lights out.
We woke up early again on Sunday morning to leave for Pagudpud, which is about the furthest north you can go before leaving the Philippines and entering Taiwanese waters. We stopped by the Pasuquin Salt Making stalls and got to observe the process of extracting salt from ocean water that is pumped to the camp from the beach. Really cool process to witness. The next stop was the Burgos Lighthouse, which we had to take a long winding road up to the top of a mountain to see, but provided 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape. After taking some team pictures we continued on to the Kapurpurawan Whiterock formation which is a beautiful landscape of almost paper-white rocks jutting out of the ocean. Gorgeous views and ice cold buko juice….doesn’t get much better. The next stop was the Bangui Wind Farm, which was really impressive. A short walk from the road down to the beach and as far as the eye could see there were massive windmills lining the shoreline. We spent about an hour messing around taking photos from different perspectives with the windmills in the background before heading on to the next few quick stops: Paraiso ni Anton (waterfall off to the side of the road where we bought yellow watermelon), Timmangtang rock (large rock formation just off the shore), drove along the Patapat Viaduct, and finally arrived Hannah’s Resort in the Blue Lagoon for lunch. It was a jam packed morning so everyone could use a rest. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the bus playing team building games while we made our way to the Pagudpud Rinnovati resort, which really is about the northern most point in the Philippines.
For this trip, the group was broken out into four different teams and throughout the weekend we played different team building games but I kept track of the points. On this final evening I tallied up the final scores and showed everyone a video that the committee had put together of pictures we had taken the last few days. It was really fun and we ended by awarding the winning team a nice prize before hanging out with some of the hotel staff and teaching them some American drinking games :)
Another early morning, breakfast at 6am before leaving the north and heading to Ilocos Sur, the main stop being the city of Vigan, which is designated a Unesco World Heritage Site. It’s a beautiful town that has remained the same for the past hundred years. The streets are mostly still cobblestone and horse drawn carriages (kalesas) can be heard trotting by every few minutes. One of the most memorable places we visited in the city was Pagburnayan which is famous for the clay pottery that is produced there. After we got to try making some pottery of our own on the pottery wheel, we were lucky enough to meet the owner and head artist at Pagburnayan, Fidel Go who is honored as a national artist in the Philippines for his expert clay work.
We spent the rest of the day hanging out in Vigan, trying some local food, browsing the gift shops and enjoying the beautiful town. After dinner at Uno Grille (incredible halo halo!), we boarded our bus for the long 8 hour bus ride back to Manila. Another incredible, and exhausting, trip in the books :)
