#Joe Rigney
by Joe Rigney | Many people know C.S. Lewis as the author and creator of Narnia. A slightly smaller group know him as a remarkably effective Christian apologist. An even smaller group appreciate him as a scholar of medieval and Renaissance literature. Fewer recognize him as a prophet of civilizational doom...

God’s men are not to be pouty and weak, but strong and glad — a reminder God gives us every day when he makes the sun rise.

"Be comforted, small one, in your smallness. He lays no merit upon you. The weight of the world is not yours. It was borne by another, by one whose bloody shoulders were able to bear it — up to Golgotha, into the tomb, down to Sheol, and then out, out again into the light of resurrection. Have no fear, small one. Bear the load that is yours with humility, like a weaned child, as one who hopes in the Lord forevermore."

The surest way to give the world over to evil is to begin to deny such evil exists. And this is exactly what we have begun doing.

Learn the Habit of Reading Well
Observe the subject matter accurately and thoroughly,
Understand clearly what you have observed,
Evaluate fairly what you have understood by deciding what is true and valuable,
Feel intensely according to the value of what you have evaluated,
Apply wisely and helpfully in life what you understand and feel, and
Express in speech and writing and deeds what you have seen, understood, felt, and applied in such a way that its accuracy, clarity, truth, value, and helpfulness can be known and enjoyed by others.
You can’t say whether something is true or false, good or bad, until you first know what the something is.

Grumbling Obedience Resisting a Common Temptation
Article by Joe Rigney Teacher, desiringGod.org If you were giving an exhortation to an obedient people, what temptations would you urge them to guard against? Most of us would likely highlight the danger of pride and self-righteousness. And we’d be right to do so. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul is addressing an obedient people. Unlike the Galatians or Corinthians, Paul does not write to…

by Joe Rigney | Frequently, prudence is a matter of picking your problem. In a finite and fallen world, we will always be faced with trade-offs and difficulties. As church leaders, called to lead together in a particular locale, many of our decisions involve selecting which problems we hope to address and...

John Rigney learned when he was a little boy that if people are in orphanages, they don’t have love so therefore they are an easier target. You can get them to end their lives easier and without love from parents they don’t have as many life opportunities because most people are shutting more doors on orphanages for the last 2000 years. It’s very very cheap way to ensure that your child appears more useful than he or she really is.
So now, Will Frazier has learned that he might be able to get me to kill myself except he doesn’t think he’s going to get in any trouble because I didn’t tell the county attorney kind of like I didn’t tell on Brandon flowers for making that nasty comment about my hips in home ec in 10th grade

There’s another elephant in the room and I guess some women of America have been talked to by their parents and therapists and things like that because you don’t steal from certain people and you do consider many sources before you even decide G I think that’s a good idea

Live Like a Narnian: Christian Discipleship in Lewis's Chronicles by Joe Rigney 12.27.22
An encouraging collection of essays using the Chronicles of Narnia as inspiration for a range of topics ranging from joy to manhood. The Chronicles of Narnia were the books that got me hooked on reading as a kid, so I enjoyed Rigney's closer look at how Lewis promoted different Christian values throughout the stories. Each essay is only a few pages long, which makes it easy to pick up, read a section, and ruminate on it for a while before reading the next one. My favorite chapter was "Shasta's Hard Lesson: Receiving the Reward for a Job Well Done" about continuing the good fight regardless of circumstances. Recommended for fans of the Narnia books looking for short essays of exhortation.

TGIF: Roundup for October 28, 2022
Tumblr media
When I asked Ashley Kim for advice to young writers, here’s what she had to say: “Sometimes I get discouraged because I can tell that there are shortcomings in my writing, but I also don’t have all day to read and write… Your current responsibilities right now are what God has called you to be faithful to. And if that means you only have time to write for 30 minutes a week, or however long you have, that’s okay, because that’s truly where you’re meant to be.” Check out our new interview, and find more author interviews on YouTube.
