Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker: Work/Travail/Arbeid

"The starting point for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s Work/Travail/Arbeid is a simple question: Can choreography be performed in the form of an exhibition? To answer that question, one of today's most important dancer/choreographers reimagined her stage performance Vortex Temporum (2013)—choreographed to the eponymous work by the late French composer Gérard Grisey—for a museum space, away from a conventional theater setting. Work/Travail/Arbeid is not De Keersmaeker’s first project to be performed in the museum space; in 2011 she performed the solo Violin Phase, part of her very first piece, Fase: Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich (1982), in MoMA's Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium. But with Work/Travail/Arbeid the artist imagines the choreography as an exhibition. ..."

While Sue is away enjoying sunshine and warm weather in Vietnam, I am stuck in New England, struggling to layer cleverly to combat the close-to-zero degrees temperature. How ridiculous do we look when on one post, Sue is wearing a bikini, and on the other, I'm wearing a massive $20 thrifted coat? Anyway, for those on the unfortunate side of the world who is too tired of coming up with a winter outfit anymore, here is my holiday-spirited outfit that is comfy, warm, and also fun. Dots of gold on the collar, a disco-ball-like silver skirt, chunky red scarf, snow-like fluffy winter hat, and a simple black boots from Maison Martin Margiela for H&M. Anyway, happy holiday to all of you!

Time To Strategize: Maison Martin Margiela for H&M Hits Stores Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM, Maison Martin Margiela for H&M will be revealed. Time to prepare for the inevitable shit show that will ensue. I still remember my first collaboration experience. Stella McCartney at 34th Street in NYC. Mannequins were flying that day. How I managed to escape with a dress, blazer and a full head of hair is beyond me. Since then, H&M has learned a thing or two about crowd control and you should also learn that you can't shop this sale without a plan. Prepare for battle with these tips:

Get there early.  Stores may not open until 8:00 in the morning, but you need to one of the first 420 people in line. Those people will receive a color-coded bracelet corresponding to a 15 minute period during the day in which you will be able to shop the collection. 

Know what pieces you want.  It may sound like enough time, but 15 minutes is nothing people! Be familiar with the collection. If you're dying for the lucite heel boots (like me), get those FIRST! This isn't a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Still undecided? View the collection here. 

Travel light.  This might not be the best time to be carrying your gym bag, lunch, an extra pair of shoes and snacks while wearing your Tribute heels you scored at the YSL sample sale. Keep it simple.

Don't bite off more than you can chew. There's a limit, ladies...only 4 of any one piece can be purchased by a single person. Hoarding is not chic.

Location, location, location. Choose wisely. If a location is busy on any old day, you can bet it will be a cluster for this.

Going rogue. Not a morning person? Have a not-so-understanding boss? There's still hope. Once people start shopping, things get messy and stuff gets moved around. Greedy people (see item #4) have to abandon things on their way to the cash wrap. You meet a kindly bracelet wearer feeling generous that day in the fitting room who hands over an extra duvet coat. It can happen!
