Oh, that's interesting! (In response to my last ask)
My identity as a bat and the fact I regress to a bat is not really connected? As a bat I am myself, but when regressed, my pet self is somewhat different from me? She (we even use different pronouns!) is a bat who seems to moreso resemble an anthropomorphic depiction of a bat (for example a fursuit :3). She doesn't have a set species but I assume she may be a vampire bat or flying fox? Do you have a set species when you're regressed? I would love to hear about it if you're willing to share :> /nf, pos
- @batty-babbles
Oh my gosh we are so similar...
Like I mentioned, there's like, 3 bat sides to me. However, with me, my alterhuman identity as a bat definently stemmed from the other two.
When I first discovered I was a bat (I identified as a bat therian at the time), I would change my name (thought slightly) and pronouns during shifts. Instead of Sage, I went by Sageyz, and used It/Its pronouns (something I didn't use as a preferred pronoun at the time). This was also always accompanied by a littlespace type of regression, just how it is now.
I found a friend group with a lot of systems in it and thought I was one myself. At the time, I thought I had OSDD-1b, but that didn't turn out to be true. I have a post explaining it a bit here:
Anyways, I assumed Sageyz was a headmate of mine and treated it as such. I figured that instead of shifts, it was probably switches. Sageyz was (and is) also some sort of anthro-nonanthro mix and, evidently, a little. I'm not exactly sure of its species or appearance either, but when I was I therian, I was certain that I was a Myotis microbat, so I assume it is too.
It was very special to me, but once I realized I wasn't an OSDD system, I felt guilty and totally disbanded the system. I chalked it up to me just being a therian again, but realized the term pet regressor probably fit better. I still felt like I identified as a bat thought, so I started identifying as a bat alterhuman instead of therian.
Recently, after questioning what really happened with my plutal experience 2 years ago, I learned about the term "Imagian", a pluralhood where someone feels that their imaginary friends make them plural. I'm currently experimenting with this label and finally allowed myself to connect with Sageyz again. Two days ago, we even did a coloring page together! I felt bad for leaving it for so long, but itz always very happy. I know my other Imagis could take care of it while I was gone.
As for me, I am still a Myotis microbat (both identity wise and when regressed), but I am technically a hybrid because I have a leaf nose.
I look something like this!
(The color is kind of off in the first one, I'm a darker brown like the other two :3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For a while I've just used the term "myotis" because I couldn't pinpoint a specific species, but I think I might be a Little Brown Bat.
Funnily enough, when I was a toddler, a Little Brown Bat flew into my room and we had to get someone to safely release it. I think this could even be the cause of my alterhumanity/littlespace as a bat, especially since I only found out the species of that bat in my room after I discovered my alterhumanity. Plus, it's a Little Brown Bat. I mean, it just makes sense doesn't it?
Sorry for such a late response, too! I headed off to bed after I answered the last ask.

I am a fan of the Bat!Eddie trope I just can never decide what species of Bat to make him or have him be a demoBat of some kind.
I know most folks have him as either a mega!bat like a flying fox or golden crowned flying fox (my personal fav)
But I also can see him as a microbat!
Like a vampire bat (they are so stupid their digestive system makes me want to scream, biology is fun kids) or a little brown bat or Indiana brown bat . Or a greater brown bat ?
Or perhaps a fisher!bat they eat fish and other bats .
Or or maybe he’s a demobat/bat of some kind ? Either way he’ll still eat flesh lol.
What do y’all think? You got any suggestions ?

A little about me
I doubt this will be relevant for anyone but in case anybody is interested. I was previously transgendercowboy
A couple guidelines for interacting with me/my posts: - My blog is NOT SAFE for minors and I do not wish to interact with minors. I'm obviously not going to check every single person who interacts with everything I post but if you're under 18 please don't follow me - I have schizoaffective disorder, sometimes I post when I am actively psychotic, sometimes I say things that don't make sense, please Do Not reality check me. The best course of action if I post something weird is to ignore it. - I'm not "making content", nothing on my blog is curated. If you like some of the things I post but not others then you don't have to interact with the stuff you don't like.
Facts About Me: - As it says on the tin, I am extremely queer, I'm an intersex trans man, I currently describe myself as gender apathetic internally but socially present as a man. I'm also gay, aroace, and in a QPR with my best guy - I'm physically disabled, have multiple mental illnesses, autism, and ADHD. Mental illneses includes C-PTSD and AsPD - I'm a Pagan and Satanist. My paganism includes Siberian Native traditional practice which I'm learning from a family member -I have extremely low to no empathy, I do not feel any remorse, I have no shame, if any of that makes you uncomfortable you don't have to tell me and you don't have to stick around - I'm an anarchist and a leftist (I shouldn't have to clarify the second part). I don't post much about politics because arguing about politics on the internet is of no interest to me - I take long breaks from posting because of lack of stimulation and misanthropy - I'm a psychological therian. My therio-types are a wolfdog hellhound and a borzoi
My regulatory interests: Bats (esp. microbats) Kink & BDSM, Safe Sex, and Inclusive Sex Ed Nuclear Accidents (not nuclear energy in general) Music Gore Medicine (esp. Pharmacology, Surgery, Immunology) Religious Studies
General Interests: Learning languages Horses (western seat, rodeo) Keeping and caring for parrots Therianthropy (obviously) Building Gundam models Art Miniature making
A note: some of my older posts pertain to alters/system mates I have. They no longer post on this account, they now post on a secondary account.

The Queensland Outback has many must-see attractions, but the Undara Volcanic Nature Park is one the most mesmerising. It's the longest lava tube system in the world, with massive craters, underground caves, and an abundance of wildlife (including microbats)!

why are the modern interpretations of vampires only based on one kind of bat, give me vampires based on other bats
give me vampires that eat only fruit or bugs
give me vampires with cute foxy faces or big ugly noses
give me slight and petite vampires based on microbats, or tall and beefy vamps based on the giant bats from the Philippines
give me different vampire species who all have their own cultures and social system of cliques and rivalries, give me vampires whose appearance varies based on what bats are common in their country
blood drinkers are the classic high class variety of snooty vampire who love drama and plaster themselves all over media as super cool and sexy, when really if they let their glamour slip you can see they all have big ears and weird noses, they have a toxic culture of looking down on humans as nothing but a food source
there are definitely sub cultures among this type of vampire who find different ways of eating, like working for a blood bank and pinching supplies, or posing as an alternative medicine practitioner who specialises in old medical techniques like blood letting or using leeches
this is only really an issue for city life blood drinkers tho, those who live rural have a much easier time feeding off cattle who have more than enough blood to spare, a vampire can easily feast on a different cow each night with no fatalities, these vampires usually hang in smaller groups so as not to overdrink from the cattle, and they have a much better attitude toward humans since they don't only see them as a snack, they'll often work with humans to guard their more vulnerable animals at night from predators like foxes
bug eating vamps have a long history of running pest control services, and mostly mind their own business, they tend to be very down to earth and private and sometimes embarrassed to admit their eating habits to humans, but they've been making some headway in turning bug eating from something inherently gross into an interesting food trend in western cultures, they also have a higher population count in countries where eating insects is less unusual since many of them tend to move there for the more tasty seasoned options
the only way to be turned into a bug eating vamp is via bug bite transmission, their populations are heaviest in areas dense with mosquitoes, though the more vampires there are in the area, the less mosquitoes there tend to be since they, you know, eat them, so the populations don't tend to bloom out of control, but as a result of this method many freshly turned vamps have no one to explain what has happened to them, most bug eater communities are hyper vigilant to the behaviour of people around them, always on the lookout for signs of the recently turned so that they can support them
their appearances vary wildly from region to region based on the local bat species they originated from, a majority of bats are insectivores, so this makes them the most common of vampire species
fruit eaters are the least common and tend to lead the most normal lives since fruit is usually widely available in most civilisations, but there are many who run their own fruit farms and orchards, often forming little communities among themselves that can get very cult-like from an outside perspective due to them all sharing somewhat similar fox-like features and keeping very odd working hours, some regular humans sometimes try to join the commune but often struggle with the very limited fruit based diet and nocturnal lifestyle unless they take vitamin supplements and are natural night owls
accidental vampirism tends to happen a lot in fruit bat vamp circles because the method involves a vampire sharing a piece of fruit with a human, which is remarkably easy to do by accident since they tend to share amongst themselves a lot, especially when they've been snacking on the fermented stuff and aren't paying a lot of attention to who they're sharing with
I dunno if anything like this exists already in any forms of media but I definitely haven't seen anything like it before and I just thought it was a fun and interesting idea

Yea, gimme cool bat facts
YES
- Bats have the second-most number of species of any mammal, second only to rodents (which they are not related to). They can be found on every continent except Antarctica, and some can live up to thirty years!
- They are divided into two main groups- megabats (the flying foxes, or fruit bats) and microbats (basically everything else). Flying foxes live in Old World countries and eat fruit, are often active during the day, and navigate the world by sight. The largest ones can have wingspans up to six feet.
- Microbats are active at night and navigate using echolocation (but they can see very well- bats are not blind!). Different species feed on different things: bugs, nectar from flowers, small fish, small animals (including other bats). Only three species drink blood, and they're all found in South America and are NOT fond of feeding off humans. Vampire bats prefer feeding on large animals like cattle, while one vampire species feeds on birds.
- Doing my darned'est to give vampire bats a better reputation. They're the only mammal that feeds entirely on blood and their digestive system is so fine-tuned that if they can't feed within about 48 hours, they will literally starve to death. Healthy vampire bats will hunt and then come back to feed sick or injured roostmates, ensuring their survival! They will also adopt orphaned vampire bat pups!
All right I have to go, but I have tons more. I love bats and after seeing some wildly ignorant and even hateful comments about them on youtube I got fired up

Sabang
Having finally made it through the silly season, we are very ready for our long planned summer break. A break from work, a break from schedule, and mostly, just some time together. And what better place to do all that than in the Philippines. Thrilled that our Asian Adventures are continuing into 2019, we journey over land and sea to Palawan, one of the many island jewels of the expansive archipelago.
With the idea to get all the big traveling out the way early, we travel from Melbourne to Manila to Puerto Princesa (Palawan’s capital) to Sabang in just under 30 hours. Arriving at Bambua Beach Cottages at dusk, softly lit lanterns lead us up the steep garden path, and ultimately to our gorgeous Palawan style cottage on the forests edge. Exhausted from the journey, nothing stops us drifting to sleep, not the sticky heat and not even the two Giant (Tokay) Gecko’s calling loudly in our bedroom.
Hearing of a waterfall within walking distance, we follow the direction pointed to us by a friendly Filipino and take to the trail. With nothing but rocks under our feet, we clamber along the coastal track, stopping only to let a brightly striped snake slink across the trail in front of us. Dragging a lizard in its jaw, we are glad to note it is uninterested in our proximate passing by. Arriving at the waterfall, we take in the cascading falls, and our eyes are quickly drawn to the to the rock lined infinity pool at its base. Relaxing in the cool freshwater we watch the waves smash into the rocks just metres in front of our faces. Passing back through Sabang village, we appreciate the different way of life the village provides. Locals laugh and smile as they cook meals in the shade of their homes, while children portray an ultimate freedom, playing amongst the rocks and climbing trees unsupervised.
Rising early the next morning, we pack a bag and make for the beach. Arriving at the tourist office before it opens, we are amongst the first few to gain our permits allowing us access to one of Palawan’s biggest natural drawcards, Subterranean River National Park. Breaking away from the tourist throng, we decide to leave the boats behind and walk the jungle trail to the cave entrance. While providing continuous shade, the remnant forest is a humid mess of tall trees and spiny palms, and we are soon grabbing at our water bottles. Avoiding the potential ‘vicious attack’ our guides stress the local macaques are raring to dish out, we make it to the aqua blue of the river and the entrance to the cave. Here we board a small bangka and our guide paddles us through the long and winding cave system. While the size and grandeur of the cave itself is no less than stunning, it’s the masses of microbats flitting about the cave at our head height that make us twist and turn. Their well adapted echo-location rings against the cave walls as they fly past our boat. The furthest caverns are much quieter, and seemingly void of life, though swiftly our guide’s torchlight reveals masses of bats hanging silently from the cavern roof. There is much life in this deep dark underworld.
With the sun high in the sky, afternoon’s in Sabang are for relaxing, and we have no trouble getting into the local rythym spread out on our private balcony overlooking the hills. A Tanduay Rhum in one hand and a book in the other, we welcome sleep as the slightest breeze gently rocks our hammock.
On our last full day in Sabang we take it nice and slow. A garden breakfast leads us back to our hammock and a relaxing morning taking in the sun kissed view. Walking back toward the beach we pass young families selling the mornings catch of mussels and fresh fish to the local passers by. On the beachfront the coastal breeze blows the palms to one side and fills the beachfront restaraunts with sound, their endless rows of wind chimes echoing along the sandy strip. Despite the winds and the choppy surf, the beach is the place to be. After a shallow dip we let the breeze dry us and cool us down as we lay back and watch the clouds pass overhead.

It takes a lot of energy and an efficient circulatory system to work the flight muscles of bats. Energy supply to the muscles engaged in flight require about double the amount compared to the muscles that do not use flight as a means of mammalian locomotion. In parallel to energy consumption, blood oxygen levels of flying animals are twice as much as those of their terrestrially locomoting mammals. As the blood supply controls the amount of oxygen supplied throughout the body, the circulatory system must respond accordingly. Therefore, compared to a terrestrial mammal of the same relative size, the bat's heart can be up to three times larger, and pump more blood.[63] Cardiac output is directly derived from heart rate and stroke volume of the blood;[64] an active microbat can reach a heart rate of 1000 beats per minute.[65]
