my day yesterday was okay, i've just been relaxing, and studying occasionally. went out to explore a nearby town too, it's so pretty there. and much colder (since it's a highlands) of course!! Ironwood's form of the right thing is the greater good/most help to more people, while RWBY's is to help as many at a...

1. The whole glass situation

Basically yeah, glass has been very closely tied to Salem from the get-go, considering it’s a part of her original semblance. She can heat things to extreme temperatures and manipulate their shape which usually results in her taking one object (dust, dirt, etc.) and changing it into glass to shoot at people. We see her do this numerous times throughout the series, as does Ruby. Their fight at the party is just one example. 

Cinder also incorporates glass into her outfit a lot: her heels at one point, her eye patch thing, etc. Glass, and at times black glass, is kind of her specialty outside of the Maiden powers. So when Ironwood is going, “We took out Watts, we took out Tyrian, so who the hell broke into my office?” pounds the table, and the chess piece falls...

Ruby puts two-and-two together. Out of all the villains we’re familiar with who is most likely to have left a black, glass chess piece here? Cinder. 

2. The whole Ironwood situation

Yeeeeaaaah it remains just a bit of a mess lol. I stand by what I’ve said in previous metas. He had absolutely every right to be upset and every point brought up in that meeting is a sound one. In re-watching the scene for that screenshot, I really hate how Ironwood’s fear is framed as paranoia when it’s absolutely not. He points out that this chess piece was a message the first time at Beacon (true). Ruby realizes Cinder was here and left it (true). Ironwood seethes that Salem is always at least one step ahead of them (true). Because of that he worries that this was all a trap and they’ve walked into it by recalling Mantle, creating a single, easy target for Salem to strike (quite possibly true given the impending attack)... yet the entire time Team RWBY acts like he’s unhinged. Yang makes her classic angry face like she’s prepared to fight him if need be. Blake is flinching back. Weiss is giving generic, “It’ll be okay!”s instead of acknowledging that, no, it’s actually not okay right now. They should all be freaking out to some degree here yet instead Ironwood’s very rational concerns are made to look like ravings... even as Ruby herself proves how right he is. Oh yeah. That’s not some random chess piece you pulled out of thin air because you’re paranoid. Cinder was actually here. In this office. Moments ago. Leaving Salem’s calling card. That’s very bad. 

The whole thing was just an exercise in, “What Team RWBY says should be taken at face value despite all logic.” Yang insists Robyn was always trustworthy. Where’s her proof of that? She has none, but we’re still meant to take her side. Vine and Harriet point out that they can’t win this battle in the state they’re in and by all accounts they’re right, but we’re supposed to hate them for their logic because that’s a hard pill to swallow Team RWBY doesn’t like making hard calls. And we’re supposed to be scared of Ironwood because he raises his voice, supportive of Ruby because she says her piece in soft, persuasive tones... even though what they’re actually saying doesn’t line up. Getting the viewer to side with Team RWBY depends a lot on being distracted by how Ironwood makes his case---angry, scared, hitting the table---and thus missing the points he’s making. It likewise involves ignoring all the justifiable reasons he has to be that upset , even beyond the fact that he’s just destroyed his arm for everyone under his protection, including Team RWBY. If he had betrayed Team RWBY in the ways they betrayed him this volume no one would be criticizing their right to yell and hit things. Which I know is the case because that’s precisely what they did last volume when they found out Ozpin kept secrets. When Team RWBY is betrayed in that manner they’re allowed to scream and hit people. When Ironwood is betrayed in that manner he isn’t allowed to scream and hit an inanimate object. Because that makes him look bad and people have a tendency to prioritize those looks over what the person is actually saying. They did the exact same thing with Cordovin: get caught up in how snooty and arrogant she is and ignore the fact that... she’s right. What she’s saying is right. You just don’t like how she’s delivering the information. Ironwood spent this whole volume being patient with them and then the second he (with great reason) lost his temper the story worked to frame that as him going off the deep end. And then solidified it with him shooting Oscar which was just... yeah.

The whole 24 hours prior to the concert itself was amazing, and then being in the front row was just unreal. And then Harry screaming “köttbullar” (=meatballs, cause we had a Swedish flag) at us. Best day. * Like the entire week before graduation was great. Prom, chilling in the sun, graduating. It was all really nice. We bought a big, inflatable pool, so when the rest of the students were still in school, all of the graduates had pool parties in the school yard * One time when my boyfriend was playing some game on his computer, to gain his attention, I climbed up into his lap and latched myself around him like a backwards backpack, and then I accidentally fell asleep there. Slept for about an hour.
