OH NO NOW IT’S CATCHING
NOT THE MARKETPLACE HIMBO ;_; His Kenergy was unmatched
The split screen between Fai and Kurogane as they go Full Intensity Mode is FANTASTIC though. Kurogane’s sword is OUT and READY FOR THREATS.
Luckily the people mostly just seem to be threats to themselves more than anything at the moment but it’s good to be prepared

OHHHHHHHHHH Oh dear that is bad
The time loop could sustain itself comfortably potentially forever as long as everything was the same and there were no changes, but the second they arrived things grew less and less stable, and the more new things they did the more this escalated.
To the point where now when they’re asking new questions people all around them are just coming apart at the seams and the entire time loop is collapsing.
The really interesting part is that this is probably a bit of a parallel to what Evil Wolverine is doing to the universe at large - where things are all nice and working just fine as long as everything is contained within the rules that run the universe, but the more Evil Wolverine pokes holes in the timelines and disrupts things with his plans, the more the logic of the universe starts to collapse around itself and things just generally start falling apart. It’s like a slowly escalating entropy scale that suddenly starts to tip the heavy it gets - and I assume his plan is to get it to flip entirely so he can finally just do what he wants and the rules can’t stop him.

And CONFIRMED: Kurogane and Fai both read them as alive, so they are living beings in some sense or another.
Which has that LOVELY CLAMP TWIST OF THE KNIFE, where we could already guess that they were alive due to the cues given, but they didn’t confirm it in the narrative until AFTER they all started falling apart right in front of us.
:D It’s the CLAMP way!

hey do you think that kurogane ever calls fai 'yuui' and do you think fai ever calls him 'youou'?
hmm… so to start off my answer on this, i’ll have to quote a post i made last year about how the two of them avoid calling each other by any name:
from the start of the journey and to present canon, fai and kurogane both avoid calling each other by their names - although neither are using their real name, at least not since their Backstory Trauma Incident. youou took up the “kurogane” use name when he entered tomoyo’s guard after the sacking of suwa and set his focus to becoming physically strong; yuui took up fai’s name after setting into his quest to resurrect fai.
by not calling each other by these false names that represent their messed up pasts, kurogane and fai are shown to be the best at understanding each other as well as being key to overcoming their individual traumas and completing their character arcs. so that’s interesting and i’m in hell
so basically, throughout all of canon, kurogane calls fai wizard/mage/etc. in turn fai calls kurogane kuro-tan/kuro-sama/etc, except when they’re emotionally distant during infinity. that significance of using kurogane’s “proper” name (his assumed name, we eventually learn) is meant to drive a wedge in the emotional closeness between them. it adds another layer of distance.
so in keeping with this theme, in post-canon… nah! i don’t really think that they do. for starters, and to be a bit nitpicky, kurogane’s “true” name is very tied in his lord/vassal relationship with tomoyo (and also stuff about returning to his childhood/hereditary ideals etc). i don’t think he’d ever really see a reason to tell fai, especially because he enjoys the pet names so much (you know he does - also because it’s a very everyday reminder of their bond).
i think when they get married in nihon (or renew their vows) (or have a “proper ceremony, especially as you’re getting married to a foreign prince!” as tomoyo commands, mostly because she wants to be in charge of it all; fai is delighted and swept along, kurogane grumbles and grouses and follows, of course) tomoyo uses “youou” when she’s presiding, and since mokona is there fai knows it isn’t some nihongo word he’s unfamiliar with and he’s like……………. WHAT?
of course tomoyo sees fai’s brow furrow that tiny bit when she says youou, and after the ceremony she is both lightly scolding kurogane for not telling his LIFE PARTNER his actual name, but also OH how DRAMATIC! kurogane’s barking back IT’S THE LORD/VASSAL RELATIONSHIP and fai’s laughing along because he gets it now, and it’s actually very funny and he LOVES having tomoyo around to pick on kurogane with.
he brings it up later - kurogane’s learned to be conscious and careful of fai’s feelings in the years they’ve spent together, knows that there’s some times he should make an effort to be delicate - and explains it as fai gives him his full attention (he’s still eager to learn about his new home, and all that time with syaoran has rubbed off on him). and then fai thanks him for trusting him with that piece of him and that he’ll keep it safe, “but you’re still my cute widdle kuro-tan!!” and kurogane swats at him, and fai laughs and laughs.
as for yuui… hm. i feel like fai’s self-identity is so muddled now after years of “being fai” that he… kind of is? in his own, new way. he’s doing his best to own his identity, to be free for the first time in his life. and everyone still calls him fai for convenience’s sake. except, of course, for kurogane, who calls him wizard/mage/etc. i think fai would probably re-tell kurogane his birth name - huddled in the quiet, intimate dark - because, well, “you don’t need to use it if you don’t want to - but i thought it’d be good to tell you under different circumstances than when you first learned it. of my own free will.”
kurogane considers this, considers fai’s steady, calm gaze. not the forced placidity of before: this is trust. this is good. there’s fear still haunting fai’s head, beaten into the grooves after years of mistreatment, and that’ll probably never go away. he gets how fai doing things entirely of his own will is new and important to him, and kurogane very much approves of fai learning what autonomy and agency feel like.
kurogane says it once - tests it, sees how it feels in his mouth as he looks at his partner. on fai’s part, he hasn’t been called “yuui” very much at all; it’s weird to hear it spoken aloud and directed at him. it’s almost foreign. it sort of permanently is, now that valeria and celes and ashura and his brother are gone, dead and forgotten by all but a handful of people.
kurogane says it bluntly: “do you want to be called yuui?”
he thinks for a long moment. “i’m not sure. i’m fai to all of you, which means a lot. but… i feel like i need to be my own person.”
kurogane scoffs. “you are your own person. always have been. you don’t have to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with. and anyway, you’re the wizard no matter what, so it doesn’t really matter to me either way.”
“oh? just ‘the wizard’? how boorish! i’m married to you, and you think of me as ‘the wizard’!”
“stop that.”
“my heart is rent in twain! oh, kuro-brute, your dispassion wounds me!”
“i’ll show you wounding.”
“oh, kuro-sama, i wouldn’t - mm - exactly call this wounding, really very much - the opposite - no don’t tickle me -!!”
(side headcanon: fai is very ticklish. kurogane isn’t. it’s the only effective recourse kurogane often has against fai’s teasing, with the added benefit of touching each other, and making fai laugh. you really have to press kurogane to get him to admit it, but his dignity can be worth seeing fai laugh and smile. the wizard deserves to. except if the avenue is kurogane’s hair being lime green. that one wasn’t worth the cackling. that one was worth the couch fai got exiled to.)

Little Miss Sunshine
It’s Hikaru!week time to bust out some fic! Totally haven’t really beta’d this fic. ha.
Theme: Sunshine
Rating: None
Notes: This is solid, general feel good fluff
Summary: Umi’s point of view on a special quality of Hikaru’s
If someone asked Umi to describe Hikaru in one word that word would be sunshine.
It was rather cliche and saccharine and she had to resist the urge to roll her eyes the moment the word came to mind, but it was true.
There was no better way to describe Hikaru than a walking, bouncing, beam of sunshine.
It wasn’t because of her flaming red hair, though that did rather complement the comparison, or her chipper over the top exuberance for life. Umi had never met anyone as good at living in the joy of a moment as Hikaru was.
No, while these things certainly added to the observation, they were not Umi’s primary reason behind occasionally calling Hikaru ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ even if it was only in her head.
It was simply the way she walked in and lit up a room.
It was near impossible to be around the girl and not smile.
She had known for a long time there was something special about Hikaru, it had not taken her and Fuu much time to come to that conclusion during their first trip to Cephiro. They knew it when they came home after the final battle, they knew it when they returned, and they knew it when the went after her to bring her back from the trial to become Pillar.
But if Umi were to be completely honest with herself it really didn’t dawn on her until after Hikaru had removed the Pillar system and they had begun returning to Cephiro for frequent visits just how special what she could do really was.
One trip not too long after, when Cephiro was still rebuilding, they had jumped through the gateway at Tokyo Tower, landing in the throne room entry way, right after a meeting had concluded apparently. Umi had landed on her bottom right next to Caldina, thankfully not dropping the basket of macarons she’d brought. Fuu managed a more graceful little hop and a skip, keeping to her feet and Hikaru give a little ‘meep’ as she dropped. Why did Mokona have to make the gate drop them like that? God or no god, if she ever saw the marshmallow rabbit again she had a few words for it.
Ascot helped her to her feet, Caldina already eager to take a look at the treats in her basket as Umi straightened her clothes and adjusted her headband only to look over her shoulder and nearly drop her basket again.
Hikaru had fallen right on top of Lantis, he’d reacted quickly, naturally, catching her, but it’d not been a graceful landing. One of Hikaru’s legs was thrown over his shoulder, her braid had been twisted and fell over her nose and across her face. Her scarf had slid off her neck and hung loose, ready to fall at any moment. She still clutched her book bag to her chest and she’d also lost a shoe.
Hikaru blinked, momentarily wordless, and then burst into laughter.
“Great aim darlin!”
“Caldina!”
“Oh shush Presea, you’re no fun.”
Fuu giggled and Ferio went to retrieve Hikaru’s lost shoe as her pearls of laughter slowly subsided as Lantis gently set her down. She hoped a few quick one footed hops over to Ferio to take her shoe back.
What had made Umi nearly spill her macaroons though had been Lantis himself, he was smiling.
Not that he never smiled, he did, but they were usually small, blink and you miss them smiles, but this was full blown smile, she would not have been too surprised if he had laughed.
They were still getting to know Lantis and this had been the first time she’d ever really seen him smile like that and it was all because of Hikaru.
Umi herself smiled and turned to Ascot, who had asked her what she’d brought from them to try this time.
~
A contented sigh.
Umi allowed herself to slouch further into the cushioned chair she was in. It’d been a good day. It was late summer back in Japan, where the heat was long and clung to you long after the sun set, but here in Cephiro the temperature was pleasant and the evening breeze was comfortable as the sun sank on the horizon.
They were in Eagle’s room, the later had been awake for a few weeks now, but still bed ridden. The girls had wanted to celebrate and decided to wait until the summer break to bring an innumerable amount of snacks from their world and they’d also brought some fireworks, those had been fun to smuggle through the security at Tokyo Tower.
They’d also brought a ridiculous amount of different flavored marshmallows. On a past outing Umi had made a quip in passing calling Mokona a ‘marshmallow god’ and of course that was followed with odd looks and questions.
Thus resulting in the junk food/marshmallow coma most everyone was in currently. Though Umi had spent most of the time trying to get Clef to just try one.
“Just try it…”
“It’s just sugar Clef…”
“For the love of Mokona quit giving it an autopsy and eat it already!”
Hikaru, having already loaded up with all manner of sweets and was nearly bouncing out of her seat from the sugar rush, burst into giggles.
“They’re good Clef, try it!”
Umi hid her smile behind her drink as the mage finally ate the the tiny treat.
They had to hide the bag from Eagle, who was likely to eat himself sick if they let him.
Fuu had been more sensible and had stopped snacking and was simply enjoying her tea, she had a book in her lap but she had long set it aside.
Hikaru bounced up out of her seat, “I think it’s dark enough now, yea?” she turned to Lantis and Ferio, “Come on, come on, we can pop fireworks now!” She ushered them both up, “Fuu, Umi, you coming?” she asked as she picked up a bag of fireworks.
Fuu smiled and stretched, “Of course Hikaru.”
“I think I’ll stay up here to watch the show with everyone.” Umi waved them off.
“I’ve heard of fireworks before, they have them in Fahren, but I’ve never seen them.” Eagle smiled, propped up in bed with a multitude of pillows.
“It’s a pastime during the summer time in our country, we have festivals with them quite often.”
Umi went over to the window to watch Hikaru and the others emerge down below some ways, Lantis had been given the bag of fireworks and was now pulling them out one by one to eye them with caution.
Hikaru took one of the large bottle rockets and ran off several paces and pressed the stick end lightly into the soft ground. “Is everyone ready?!
Umi gave her a thumbs up.
Hikaru hunched over the bottle rocket, reaching out with her pointer finger, lightly biting the inside of her cheek. She’d been working with Clef to use her fire magic in more delicate and detail oriented manner. Umi assumed lighting fireworks counted as practise right?
She grinned as Hikaru suddenly bolted away from the lit firework, “Here we go!” she yelled seconds before the sharp high whistle of the rocket launching filled the air.
When the rocket burst Ascot yelped and nearly strangled Caldina. There was a chorus of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from the others. Followed by Ferio’s, “Oh, I want to try one next!”
By the time they got to the larger fireworks Lantis had been given the duty of lighting them while Hikaru and Ferio had a mock duel with sparklers, even some of the castle staff had stopped to watch.
After a rather brilliant blue bust from a large shell, Ferio didn’t properly dodge Hikaru’s ‘attack’ and ended up with singed bangs.
Fuu was clutching her sides, nearly doubling over she was laughing so hard at the two of them. Ferio declared war, Hikaru grinned sheepishily and bolted away from the Prince, laughing and apologizing all at once.
“Hikaru sure knows how to brighten things up, doesn’t she?” Eagle commented.
Umi looked back to him, smiling, eating the bag of marshmallow she could have sworn she hid, but she couldn’t find it in herself to be annoyed.
She looked around the room, Caldina cheering Hikaru on from the balcony, Presea and Clef both laughing. Down below she could still hear Fuu and Hikaru’s laughter.
“Yea, she sure does.”
