My Least Favourite Magical Girl Designs: Magia Record

Now this one was a little easier for me. No set number because there are way less designs I dislike than I like. Here, I’ve listed which designs I’m not fond of, and what I’d do to improve them! Please note, this has no bearing at all on how I feel about the characters themselves! Like the previous list, this doesn’t include girls from either the original show (Let’s be honest, all those designs are god-tier anyway), or other spinoffs.

Leila Ibuki:

For the most part, I have no problem with this design. Until you get to the very big problem; WHERE ARE HER PANTS? Seriously, I love the top, love the poofy chaps things, the shield/sword combo are unique and cute, but dear gosh, child please. Whoever designed her, she is baby. Treat her as such. To fix her design, I’d extend the bottoms downward to make pants under the chaps things and upward so that the pants aren’t RIDING THE LINE OF HER CROTCH, also, I’d make her soul gem a little bit more evident. I legit had no clue where it was until the wiki pointed it out to me.

Himika Mao:

This is a mess. Big, huge mess. It’s bright, it’s different, and I’d normally excuse the messiness, as she looks like a video game heroine or maybe something out of a circus, but just like Leila. *inhale* PANTS. For this design, I’d do a couple things. First and foremost, turn the chaps into pants. Second, I’d change the parts of the bikini bottom sticking out from under the belt into suspenders attached to the bottom of her shirt. And lastly, I’d move her soul gem from her belt to her navel. Maybe, MAYBE I’d turn her long plait into a plaited loop, but I do like the long plait.

Natsuki Utsuho:

Oh boy. Oh gosh. Just... look at everything going on here. It’s so much. Which... isn’t to say I don’t like it though. But if I were allowed to go in and change her design up, I would say... get rid of the green choker/bow on the choker. It’s honestly distracting and looks out of place. I’d also make her chest smaller because being a cheerleader, the poor thing has got to be suffering with all that moving and jumping around- and if I weren’t allowed to do that, I would make sure her chest actually had proper support. Oh, and I’d also change the cut look of her hair outside of her ponytail, you know, make it more obvious that it’s tied back and she doesn’t just have one awkward long set of locks.

Kako Natsume:

I adore my baby Kako. I love her gameplay, I love her character, I love how her soul gem looks like an open book. Very, very nice. But in my opinion, her dress and cloak have too many scattered details. I would make it simpler, keep just a couple of the gold and white accents. But outside of that, she’s good.

Kokoro Awane:

I... mm. I just- I’m not sure where to start here. Or even what to do to improve this one without an entire redesign. On almost every magical girl, I can see what the designer was going for. A motif, or a style, or SOMETHING. But Kokoro, bless her... I can’t pick up anything like that. My VERY first impression of her was that she might be a nurse. Probably because of the little hat and the Nurse Joy esque hair (yes, I love Pokemon). But then I found out that that wasn’t even remotely close to anything about her, aside from maybe her kindness...?? Yeah, I’d personally just re-do her entire magical girl outfit.

Ayaka Mariko:

Ayaka’s top incenses me. It covers NOTHING when push comes to shove. Suppose a witch blasts a strong gust of wind at her from the wrong angle?! I won’t stand for that. First order of business, the top shouldn’t split until JUST BARELY above her bellybutton. Second order of business, shrink the massive bowtie ever so slightly. I know she wants to be a comedian, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be classy while being showy. Aside from that, no real qualms, moving on.

Shizuku Hozumi:

My only REAL beef with Shizuku’s design is the corset top. I’d bring it up higher to cover the way-too-obvious cleavage and the bottom edge down a little lower to reduce midriff, maybe make the shorts a tad longer. Also change her 4 star card art to be more tasteful and non fanservicy, but we’re not talking about card art here.

Asuka Tatsuki:

I only have one, minor gripe here. My poor big chested child has no support. She’s got to be in pain or at least serious discomfort. Either reduce her chest size, or give her something to keep them from giving her as much grief as they no doubt do.

One Year & 200 Followers~

Omg where do I even start? How did I even start?  A year ago today, I officially created Hanon and just ran with it. I remember the first few weeks being painful, coming into a nonexistent fandom and trying to find anyone willing to roleplay with my muse. After a couple of weeks I found a couple of poor souls awesome muns who gave me a chance from a very unlikely fanbase. One year later and my own fandom has grown just a little bit, plus I’ve gotten to meet even more wonderful people!

I have a love-hate relationship with OCs, but I absolutely love Mariko! She’s written so well and the twist on her story is horrifying enough to be canon in Madoka. I don’t know what else to say except don’t be mean to Hanon like that ever again! Ignore the fact that I encouraged such behavior~
