holy fucking shit. what an amazing show and an even better ending. honestly that’s the best piece of media i’ve seen in a very long time. anna sawai, cosmo jarvis and hiroyuki sanada fucking killed it every episode.

the emotion in episode ten really blew my mind. i KNEW toranaga was up to something more, but the revelation that he really was playing 4D chess with Ishido and the regents was played out so well. this show really had everything and i’m sad it ended to soon, but what a ride it’s been and what a perfect way to tie it up. that conversation between yabushige and toranaga on the cliff were so fitting and the moments on the lake with fuji and blackthorne made me tear up. just a perfect way to finish the story. 10/10, highly recommend.

I haven’t read or watched the original Shōgun books/show so… I had no idea this story was mainly about Mariko and John’s relationship. (Correct me if I’m wrong, I just saw some posts expressing that) And it kinda warded me off a little in the beginning because I didn’t really tune into it for a love story but I was invested in how they were written the more episodes that aired. I’m more interested in how it ALL ties together, not just focused on their romance. So in that way I’m not really mad about their ‘breakup,’ even though I do want them together.

Shogun Episode 9 spoilers under the cut

I can’t believe Mariko-sama is gone, and she died in a very gruesome way. Her body was literally blown into pieces as a way to protect the people she loved. I was really hoping she was going to survive and get out there with Blackthorne, but sadly it’s just him now. Why did they choose to cut off the only female main character in the series like what the fuck?! Like I get that it’s based off the books but did you really need to kill off the best character out of the whole line??? I literally started tearing up when I saw that she stood in front of the doorway as an act of protest. She was brave, but I didn’t want her to go out like this. Not in such a violent manner. I just hope that this season ends on a high note, cuz that shit just broke my heart 💔 I just want Ishido dead and his hostages liberated from him, that’s all I want. If that’s how the next episode ends, I’ll be happy.

Seeing Mariko's features and how she drastically changed the translations just made me laugh and understand her even more. God, that woman must have been thinking at all times: "what did I do to deserve this?
