Slithering His Way Out PT 2
Tumblr media
A/N: Sorry it took so long but here it is! I already have part 3 written so let me know if you want it. Going to double proof read in am
Part One
Throwing his body on to his cold bed, Sweet Pea let out a deep sigh. It was yet again 3AM as he finally made it home from a run for Penny Peabody. He thought that after a week of Y/N being gone he would be use to a cold empty bed but it honestly broke his heart each time. Even though silence in his trailer wasn’t something new to him, it was something that he wasn’t use to in the past two years. Sweet Pea liked coming home to a trailer filled with Y/N’s favorite tv show, or her favorite music playing or all their friends conversing with her.
He continued to stare at the ceiling fan as it spun letting Penny’s reminder run through his brain. “Don’t think I don’t still have eyes on your girl Sweets. In fact, isn’t she staying at your place FP? I wonder when she’ll return to school.” Trying to push the reminder out of his mind he began to think of how tonight would have gone if Y/N had been here. She probably would’ve questioned him about where he was and he would’ve had to lie to her. And his current train of thoughts halted there. Now realizing that he was grateful that he didn’t have to lie to her anymore which was probably the only good thing to come out of this situation. It honestly broke Sweet Pea’s heart to have to be lying to her every time she asked where he was or why he had been so secretive with her.
Sweet Pea wished he could have told her everything but it wouldn’t have solved it. It might’ve kept him from lying to her but more problems would’ve arose, like Y/N constantly worrying about him or her knowledge of it putting her in danger with Penny Peabody. None of these thoughts were going to change the fact that he was heartbroken. He might have not shown it but he was falling apart piece by piece.
Hearing from the serpents and now Penny, apparently Y/N had been staying with Jughead. It made the most sense to go stay there, because it was the one place that they were least likely to run in to each other. Of course Y/N was close with Toni and Fangs and he had heard an earful from they both, but they knew the real reason why. If Y/N had went to stay with either of them, it was a fact that they would’ve run in to each other. And he wasn’t going to lie to himself that it hurt that she was going out of her way to make sure that it wasn’t going to happen.
Turning his head away from the ceiling fan, his sight landed on the broken picture frame on the nightstand. After Y/N left that night a week ago, he found the picture in the trash and that was it took for him to go in to a rage. Tears. Punching. Throwing. Sadness. Heartbreak. Anger. He had felt it all that night.  After that and with as much as he was feeling, there wasn’t time to keep having breakdowns. So he let most of it out that night and back to stone cold Sweet Pea he went.
Everyone began to slowly notice the change in Sweet Pea and with the absence of Y/N, everyone had seemed to put the pieces together. Y/N and Sweet Pea had broken up. He wasn’t stupid, he was hearing all the whispers and he walked back and when Y/N’s name was called out in the class with no answer. But he tried to remain unmoved by it all. Except for when it came to these 3 AM lonely silent nights. Little did Sweet Pea know, Y/N was feel all the same feelings he was. In fact, she was staring at a ceiling that was becoming familiar to her at 3 AM.
After months of staying awake waiting for Sweet Pea to crawl in to bed, Y/N had gotten use to that sleep schedule. So here she was at 3 AM laying in Jughead’s bed deep in her feels. Y/N was still swearing to herself and everyone else that this break up had been her fault. She was too pushy, too nosey. Jughead, Toni and Fangs all wanted to tell her that she was wrong, but it defiantly wasn’t their place.
Y/N turned to the lonely picture on Jughead’s bedside table. Tears couldn’t’ help but fill in her eyes. She felt guilty, heartbroken, sad. She was feeling it all. Two years had went down the drain because she couldn’t leave things alone. Apparently her quiet sobs weren’t as quiet as she thought, because the door to Jughead’s bedroom was opened. “Y/N?” She heard a tired voice call out.
She turned her head already knowing it was Jughead. And thee he stood in the door way with a hand pushing his hair out of his face. Y/N quickly tried to wipe her tears away and calm herself down. Jughead wasn’t going to ignore it though. He sat at her feet keep his eyes on her. “This is the sixth night in a row.” Guilt instantly went through her body. She wiped the few tears left off her face and signed. “I’m sorry Jug. I can find somewhere else to stay.” Y/N said sitting up prepared to start packing. Her own boyfriend, well ex now had kicked her out why wouldn’t Jughead?
Jughead quickly shook his head no which she barely saw due to the darkness. “You aren’t going anyway else. Plus with my dad always being gone you keep my company.” Y/N let out a breath she didn’t even realize she was holding once she heard Jughead tell her no. Their conversation was interrupted by the trailer door opening and closing signaling that FP was home. Y/N almost found it comical that Sweet Pea and him seemed to come home around the same time, but never was quite putting two and two together. She certainly never let it cross her mind that they were running drugs for Penny Peabody because of Jughead’s debt.
Y/N played with the lose string on the blanket. “Thank you for helping me Jughead. I know I haven’t been the easiest house guest.” He snorted at her words, “You are easier than having hot dog as a house guest.” All she did was nod in response. She knew Jughead was hoping for a smile or a laugh but that wasn’t going to be something she was going to be able to do for a while. “I’m probably going to have to get back in to my regular schedule soon huh?”
Once again a head motion was made by Jughead that she barely caught, this time being a nod yes. “But only when you are ready Y/N. No one is pushing you.” Jughead tried to assure his friend. “I know but the longer I wait, the hard its going to be right? And I know it’s just Southside high but I still need to keep my grades decent.” Picking her head up, she made eye contact with Jughead. “I’m going to go back to school tomorrow.”
Jughead was surprise by the sudden decision, that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to support her every step of the way. “Well then, we better get to bed and at least get two more hours of sleep.” Standing up from the bed, Jughead made his way to the door. Not before turning back to look at Y/N and calling out her name. She picked her head up from her new position laying down and looked over at her friend. “Yeah?”
“You are going to be okay. Everything will work out in the end.” Unsure of what he meant by his last sentence she just nodded her head and laid back down as he walked out. Would everything really be okay? Would everything really work out in the end? Y/N had no clue. Neither did Sweet Pea. But Y/N knew going back to school was one step closer one slither closer.
Three hours later and her phone alarm was blaring. With a groan, Y/N rolled over needing the loud sound. Her eyes slowly opened as she realized what it was going off for. She was going back to school. It was all she could do not to let her panic take over. Instead, she rolled out of bed an picked an outfit out beginning to get ready for the day.
After a quick shower, she threw her hair into a braid , got dressed and made her way out to the living to find Jughead ready to go as well. To be honest, Jughead was a little surprised that Y/N was still going through with this. “Now if you want to leave at any point, just text me and we can leave.” Y/N shook her head in response. “There is no running away Jug.”
Grabbing her key to her jeep, Y/N walked out of the Jones’ trailer. “Let’s get this day over with.” She said not only to Jughead but also herself. They both got in to her jeep and made their way to school. The ride was silent which she silently was thankful for. She didn’t want to talk about the what ifs of today or how she was feeling. Her panic and nervousness was already setting in. When the sight of the school came in to view, she knew there was no turning back.
“Toni, Fangs or I are going to be with you every step of the way Y/N.” Jughead promised. But Y/N had barely heard what Jughead said. All she was focused on was driving past the motorcycles and not spotting Sweet Pea. As she parked in the “serpent parking lot territory”, her eyes stayed clued to the school in front of her. “Is he over there?” Y/N asked knowing the motorcycles were just to the right of her.
“His motorcycle is there. He must be inside.” Jughead informed her. Taking a deep breath, Y/N shut the jeep off and stepped out. She allowed Jughead to get off before locking it. Instantly she began to feel the stares of everyone. She put her head down and took step closer to Jughead and they started to walk in to the school. “Does everyone know?”
Jughead shrugged while shoving his hands in his serpent jacket pockets. “Everyone assumes with your absence and the old Sweet Pea back.” Hearing that the old Sweet Pea was back sent shivers down your spine along with putting a pit in to your stomach. Slightly picking her head up once they walked through the entrance, she heard Jughead’s name being called by a fellow serpent. Jughead turned to Y/N. “Are you going to back it to first period okay? Toni will meet you there.”
Taking yet another deep breath Y/N nodded placing a hand on Jughead’s arm. “Thank you Jug.” He half smiled as a you’re welcome and began to walk away from her. Y/N stood still until he was out of sight. She put her head back down and began to make her way to her locker. Of course she was hearing the whispers as she walked down the hall and it annoyed her more than anything. It wasn’t anyone’s business what was happening, that didn’t mean she was going to confront anyone about it.
As she approached her locker, she picker her head up slightly noticing a figure by her locker. Y/N sighed in relief when she saw it was Fangs standing by your locker. In all honestly, she didn’t want to be walking this halls by herself but she wouldn’t hold Jughead back. Her pace picked up a little bit so she could get to Fangs quick. Once she did, she pulled him in to a hug. “Thank god.” Y/N said in his ear.
Fangs hugged her back giving her a light squeeze. As they were hugging, Fangs couldn’t help but notice a tall serpent peek around the corner. Quickly shaking his head as to signal the taller serpent not to come this way hoping Y/N wouldn’t feel it but she had. Pulling away, Y/N had a questioning expression on her face. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just can’t believe you’re back so soon.” Fangs said hoping she would believe it. And so far she seemed to, because the began to grab what she needed out of her locker. Y/N didn’t believe him though,  deciding it was best to let it go. “Are you going to be late to first period because you are walking me?” She questioned Fangs once again. Receiving a shrug in response, she shook her head at his carelessness.
Closing her locker, they began to walk down the hall. “How are you?” Fangs asked sincerely. Y/N didn’t know how to answer that. Her feelings were all over the place but at this particular moment all she felt was numb with a little bit of nerves. Instead of explaining all of this to him, she went with the simple answer. “I’m doing the best i can.”
Not wanting her to be blind sided, Fangs decided to prepare her. “He is here today. I’m sure by know he knows you are here too.” Y/n nodded her head. She only figured as much. “Then first period should be interesting.” Showing no emotion saying this, Fangs wasn’t sure if it was a joke or not. Y/N always smiled or laughed at her own jokes but neither one was present. Realizing they were at the door of her first period, they both stopped. “It was a joke Fangs. You can laugh.” Fangs only half smiled.
Grabbing her arm, he tried to comfort her. “Be strong.” Placing a hand over his she squeezed his hand before turning around and walking in to the room. Suddenly everyone’s eyes were on her and the person behind her. She quickly looked behind her to see Sweet Pea standing there with a blank expression. Her feet were frozen. She felt as if she couldn’t move. But without what seemed like a care run the world, Sweet Pea made his way around her and took his seat.
Watching as he threw himself into a desk, Y/N felt as if she could move again and did just that realizing everyone was still staring. Her eyes moved from Sweet Pea to Toni thankfully sitting on the other side of the room and lastly made her way over to the seat next to her. As she sat down, she felt tears build in her eyes. It was like he hadn’t cared she was back. Maybe he hadn’t noticed she was even gone. Well so she thought. It actually broke Pea to see her not be able to move in his presence. It almost seemed like she was uncomfortable.
They were both pulled away from their thoughts as the teacher walked in and began class. About 10 minutes in to the “lesson”, Sweet Pea felt a buzz in his pocket from his phone. Pulling it out, he only hoped it was Y/N. But was greatly disappointed seeing it was an unknown.
I see your girl is back. I have another run for you. Come now if you don’t want that ghoulie sitting behind her to touch that pretty head of hers.
Sweet Pea’s eyes shot up from the screen and over to Y/N’s direction noticing that there in fact was a smirking ghoulie behind her. “Damn it.” Sweet Pea shouted interrupting the class. He got up and stormed out. Not forgetting to text Toni, Fangs and Jughead to keep a close eye on Y/N.
Y/N watched as Sweet Pea’s outburst played out in front of her. She turned to Toni with her eyes once again filling up with tears. “Apparently he can’t even be in the same room as me. How did I mess up so bad?” She covered her mouth trying to keep the sob from coming out. “I brought the old Sweet Pea back. Everyone knows that I hated the old Sweet Pea.” Even though Sweet Pea didn’t hear these words out of Y/N’s mouth, he knew in the back of his head that he seemed to be slithering his way deeper rather than out.
